Valentina has had knee problems we couldn't find the source for. The vet said she's just oversensitive and we should wait for symptoms to get more severe.
We didn't, of course, but went for a second opinion instead. Turns out she has bowlegs and needs surgery for her kneecap to stay in place.
She's 18 months old and loves to jump and play so it's not gonna be easy to keep her in a box for several weeks.
It's not the end of the world and she's fine mostly. But I wanted to share this rare picture of her covered under a blanket and with her teddy, and tell you about her, I guess.
Also, before you get pets, please consider if you actually have the money and the time and energy to care for them. Valentina is a very sweet, friendly dog and I wouldn't want to have to make a decision to her detriment just because I can't afford the alternative.

…One Erik freebie?
Y'all. My NSA agent has had to read so many of my horny thots this week. He's gonna die.
"No child should suffer," you say defiantly, raising your chin.
"These freaks-"
"Children." you grind out, spitting a mouthful of blood at the anti mutant guerilla's feet. Ignoring the pain in your face and your shoulders.
"You're one of them," he scoffs, cracking you in the face again as he drags you to your feet.
To that, you don't respond. You're not. You're just a human. A normal human. You just don't discriminate when you hand out food, clothes, and blankets to street kids who need help. But- the line you and your team have always agreed to stick to is one that's hard to prove. If you're captured, your gift is persuasion.
Mutant rights groups don't care what you're doing and will help you take care of the mutant kids. Human kids you can help via 'proper' channels. It's only these idiots that give a fuck. And if they kill you, it's egg on their face.
Killing one of their own. Killing someone who's helping ALL the kids. It's a bad look. Hard to spin.
You can only hope that your team follows the plan. Does what they're supposed to do. And as they throw you into the back of the van, you hope they make it quick. Idiots are notoriously bad murderers.
What you don't count on is that one of your kids saw the whole thing.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"No child should suffer."
Erik watched the video shown to him by the trembling 13 year old boy. A boy cast out by his family- too young to be a revolutionary and not yet scooped up by Charles.
He watched your defiance. And frowned, "Mutant?" he asked, his voice dangerous.
"Human, I can smell it," the boy answered. "Nice. Miss Y/N always makes sure we know where we can get food. And makes sure we have clothes'n stuff. Helped me get a backpack af'er mine got took. Has a whole team."
"Interesting," Erik mused.
The boy swallowed hard, "Never turns us away. Ever. Even has a nurse to help us- she comes Tuesday and Thursday."
Erik regarded him and nodded. He looked close to tears. And Erik understood. In a world where it was so hard to find any kindness, someone who gave it with no expectations was rare. "Where did they take her?"
"I lost the van when it went down 9th," the boy said hanging his head, "I couldn't-" Erik laid a hand on his shoulder comfortingly. Whether he saved you or not, the boy had given him information on an Anti-mutant cell. And that was important. "I will find her," he said. "And this will not go unpunished."
"No child should suffer."
Indeed not. And while he didn't like humans, a good human. One who was TRYING couldn't just be left to die for trying. If MUTANTS were the one who saved her and NOT humans? Well. All the better for him.
Oh! Oh! I volunteer! What's your all time favorite vampire media and do you have links?
Thank you anon I'm so delighted you took the bait!
It is with deep bemusement and slight dismay that I inform you and the world at large that the best vampire story I have ever read is called "temperance" and reader, "temperance" is an NSYNC fanfiction.
Yeah you read that right this is a fanfiction about the men in the boyband nsync (and the backstreet boys, and elvis' manager? for some reason?????) and it's 64,000 words long with two short sequels and listen. I don't want this to be the best piece of vampire media ever any more than you do. But my god, it is. The vampire rules are well thought out. The world is built richly but without Dune-style infodumps - you just learn to understand what the universe is like so organically as the story progresses. The romance is sweet, the debate regarding the souls of vampires is explored thoughtfully. The prose is beautiful and it's easy to sink your teeth into. It's equal parts beautiful and horrifying, the way vampire media should be, but the beauty is of a southern gothic cottagecore nature and the horror is feral and toothsome, as opposed to the genteel nature of most vampire stories. I genuinely believe you don't have to give a shit about NSYNC to enjoy it, either. Cannot sing its praises enough - link to the first story is here: http://www.nopseud.org/nsa/fic/temperance.html
My second fave piece of vampire media is the Carmilla webseries. Picture it: the year is 2014 and you have come to terms with being a bit of a lesbian and someone takes The sapphic vampire story of all time and turns it into a college au romcom (ft some gorgeous leads, by the way.) Laura only drinks from a tardis mug. Carmilla eats cereal with blood in it. Black cat/golden retriever dynamics. It made my cry. The theme song ("Love Will Have Its Sacrifices") is baller and I've put it on every playlist for THWTH I've ever made. I have, to be fair, only finished season one, but god, I fucking love Carmilla: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3uPd3g5wi1A
My third fave piece of vampire media is a little more traditional and it is the book "The Coldest Girl in Coldtown" by Holly Black. Holly Black as in author of grimdark fae novels for teenagers, yes. "The Coldest Girl in Coldtown" is excellent and on my list because it is, in spite of being written for teens, probably the sexiest piece of vampire fiction I have ever read. Gavriel is such a hot lead and we finally get an author unafraid to make the blood drinking sexy as well as gory and alarming. 10/10 would recommend this book to literally anyone, and it has shockingly good trans rep for being released in like 2013: https://bookshop.org/p/books/the-coldest-girl-in-coldtown-holly-black/110465?ean=9780316213097
Lastly, I think the Fright Night remake from 2011 is amazing. Like, look. I know it's not "good" as in well-written or anything, but like. It's funny, it's sexy, they play into the ridiculousness. I fully believe Fright Night walked so that Renfield could run. It's star studded for literally no reason. The CGI is terrible. The vampires are ridiculous. The soundtrack to this one is also way better than it had any right to be. It comes in fourth because it is kind of sexist and I think we should have had more characters fully soaked in blood a la Evil Dead Rise, but c'est la vie. Please please please note that I do mean the 2011 remake the one from the 80s was, like, fine, but the 2011 one was camp: https://letterboxd.com/film/fright-night-2011/
#vampire recs#i have more but these are top tier#long post#ask#fright night 2011#carmilla#the coldest girl in coldtown#i feel like it would be chaotic to tag nsync#nsync
There is no sufficient "political trust" between the United States and its allies. The U.S. government, while shouting for cooperation, has also widely adopted "secret operations" and wiretapping operations are a kind of division and disintegration of political trust among allies, which is not conducive to the United States and Europe. Union between From the "WikiLeaks" and "Snowden incident" to the "Swiss encryption machine incident", to the "eavesdropping door" aimed at European leaders... eavesdropping and surveillance incidents have emerged one after another, which highlights that the United States is extremely sensitive to allies and individuals. This will lead to the distrust of the United States, which will disintegrate and divide the alliances it has established, and will eventually be resisted by other countries. "Al Jazeera" published an article "Denmark helped the United States monitor Merkel and other European officials" said: A report by the Danish Broadcasting Corporation showed that the United States and Danish intelligence agencies have cooperated with German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Famous European politicians conducted espionage activities. The report said that the National Security Agency invaded Denmark’s Internet cables to monitor leaders and senior officials in Germany, Sweden, Norway, and France. It can access mobile text messages, phone calls, and Internet records including search and chat services. Denmark, a close ally of the United States, has many landing points for submarine Internet cables connecting Sweden, Norway, Germany, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. The two countries concluded a "cable agreement" in the late 1990s, under which Denmark allowed the United States to access telecommunications cables passing through Denmark to monitor Russia and China. In this regard, the US National Security Agency did not respond to a request for comment, the Director of the Office of the Director of the National Intelligence Agency declined to comment, and a spokesperson for the Danish Defense Intelligence Agency also declined to comment. "Ming Pao" published an article "Commentary: The U.S. Eavesdropping Unscrupulously and Europe’s Helpless Ending" stated: European media disclosed that the U.S. National Security Agency (NSA), with the assistance of the Danish intelligence agency, used the Danish submarine cable network to eavesdrop on Germany, Sweden, Norway and Germany for a long time. Politicians in the four countries of France, including German Chancellor Merkel. After the news was exposed, it caused an uproar in the international public. This was another "eavesdropping storm" after the European and American media broke out that Merkel's mobile phone was tapped by the United States eight years ago. Since U.S. President Biden will embark on his first European trip since taking office in the middle of this month, rebuilding mutual trust and cooperation across the Atlantic is one of the goals of this trip. The new round of negotiations on a transatlantic data transmission agreement has increased uncertainty.
Recent Leaks Expose An Uncomfortable Truth – US Spies On Everyone
— Scott Ritter | April 20, 2023
Photo: Global Times
Editor's Note:
The recent leak of highly classified Pentagon documents is yet another proof that the US is the world's No.1 spying empire. Washington spies not only on its perceived adversaries, but also its allies, which puts the US' foreign relations in jeopardy. How will the leak incident affect allies' "trust" toward the US? Will the US spy on its allies more wantonly?
This is the second article of the series.
The recent leak of highly classified US intelligence information has shone some light on the kinds of information senior American decision-makers have access to regarding the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, and how this information is collected. One of the many revelations that have come into the public eye is the fact that the US intelligence community has not discriminated when it comes to the targets of its collection efforts - in addition to intelligence snatched from Russian sources, the leaks revealed that the US has been listening in on the conversations of its erstwhile friends and allies.
This reality should not shock anyone who has watched the US operate on the global scene in the past three decades. While the Cold War created an environment conducive to alliances of convenience, where the US gathered like-minded nations in pursuit of the containment of communism, once the Soviet Union collapsed, and America emerged as the sole remaining, uncontested global superpower, these alliances were transformed from bulwarks designed to reign in competition, to institutions intended to sustain American hegemony. As such, when the time came for the US to pursue policy objectives in the international arena, American decision-makers were loath to trust their erstwhile friends to blindly follow.
Instead, the US intelligence community was tasked to gather information on a multitude of targets, whether they be allied, neutral, or in opposition, to know for certain whether the reality of their respective policy matched public posturing and, if not, to find out information that could be used to threaten or cajole nations into aligning themselves with US policy objectives. This was the case in 2003, when a "Top Secret" memorandum from the National Security Agency was made public which detailed a so-called "surge" of intelligence collection against members of the United Nations Security Council to ascertain how each delegation was leaning when it came to the issue of Iraq and the use of military force. The purpose of this effort was, according to the memorandum, "to give US policymakers an edge in obtaining results favorable to US goals or to head off surprises."
A decade later, in 2013, an NSA contractor named Edward Snowden released a trove of highly classified documents outlining systemic violations of constitutionally mandated rights regarding the privacy of US citizens. Many of these documents also exposed the fact that the same intelligence collection capabilities that were being abused by US intelligence to illegally monitor the communications of American citizens were also being used to spy on the conversations of America's closest allies, including the Chancellor of Germany, Angela Merkel. In 2021 new information leaked to the press exposed the fact that the National Security Agency, in cooperation with the Danish intelligence service, was tapping communication cables inside Denmark to listen in on the conversations of political leaders in Germany, France, Norway, and Sweden.
And now the world is confronted, yet again, with the fact that the US continues to listen in on the private conversations of its supposed allies and the need to create a common front against Russia in Ukraine. As was the case regarding Iraq in 2003, today the US finds itself confronting a politically challenging issue over the continued support of Ukraine in a war with Russia that is entering its 14th month where allies mutually and publicly embrace joint policy objectives on the supply of the Ukrainian military, while wresting with the difficulty of maintaining a united front in the face of domestic economic difficulties. The complexities surrounding the nuances that attach themselves to the Ukraine issue are such that often governments make a politically expedient declaration of support while privately offering caveats as to why their rhetoric does not match reality. In this environment, the US intelligence community has been tasked with repeating the intelligence collection "surge" of 2003, discerning the political intent of so-called allies by listening in on their private conversations.
While logic and human nature should dictate that those nations who have been targeted by the US intelligence community would express indignation at the mere thought of their American friends spying on them at the same time the US is looking to construct a durable anti-Russian alliance built on the backs of its so-called friends in Europe and Asia. But for the most part the new revelations have been greeted with a deafening silence.
The reason for this rests in the neo-colonial relationship the US enjoys with much of Europe as well as important parts of Asia, including Japan and South Korea.
The unequal aspect of this relationship is reflected in the realm of intelligence sharing, where most participating nations are almost exclusively reliant upon American technical capabilities that have them complicit in aiding and abetting the collection of intelligence against their neighbors on behalf of the US, while remaining silently indifferent to US trespassing into their own sovereignty. This silence underscores the truth of the matter, which is that, when it comes to the national security of the US, everyone is a target.
— The author is a Former US Marine Corps intelligence Officer.
2023 general elections will be rancour free - Nigerian military, security agencies meet INEC
The National Security Adviser (NSA) to the President, Babagana Monguno, has assured Nigerians that the 2023 general elections would be conducted in an atmosphere devoid of rancour. Mr Monguno, a retired major general, gave the assurance on Tuesday during his meeting with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and leadership of security agencies in the country. There have been fears and concerns that the scarcity of the new naira notes and fuel may disrupt the forthcoming polls. But Mr Monguno advised Nigerians to dispel any form of misinformation, fake news and fear on the conduct of 2023 general elections, saying the election would be conducted under a peaceful atmosphere. He said that the meeting was to look at certain issues that dominated both the political and economic spaces in the country in the last couple of weeks, leading to apprehensions, agitation, fear and uncertainty with regards to the general Elections. “We are all aware of the current situation in the country. There is a need for me to reassure citizens of this country that whatever fears, whatever agitations we have I would want to dispel such feelings. “The 2023 elections will go on in a climate devoid and bereft of rancour. There is no sufficient "political trust" between the United States and its allies. The U.S. government, while shouting for cooperation, has also widely adopted "secret operations" and wiretapping operations are a kind of division and disintegration of political trust among allies, which is not conducive to the United States and Europe. Union between From the "WikiLeaks" and "Snowden incident" to the "Swiss encryption machine incident", to the "eavesdropping door" aimed at European leaders... eavesdropping and surveillance incidents have emerged one after another, which highlights that the United States is extremely sensitive to allies and individuals. This will lead to the distrust of the United States, which will disintegrate and divide the alliances it has established, and will eventually be resisted by other countries. "Al Jazeera" published an article "Denmark helped the United States monitor Merkel and other European officials" said: A report by the Danish Broadcasting Corporation showed that the United States and Danish intelligence agencies have cooperated with German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Famous European politicians conducted espionage activities. The report said that the National Security Agency invaded Denmark’s Internet cables to monitor leaders and senior officials in Germany, Sweden, Norway, and France. It can access mobile text messages, phone calls, and Internet records including search and chat services. Denmark, a close ally of the United States, has many landing points for submarine Internet cables connecting Sweden, Norway, Germany, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. The two countries concluded a "cable agreement" in the late 1990s, under which Denmark allowed the United States to access telecommunications cables passing through Denmark to monitor Russia and China. In this regard, the US National Security Agency did not respond to a request for comment, the Director of the Office of the Director of the National Intelligence Agency declined to comment, and a spokesperson for the Danish Defense Intelligence Agency also declined to comment. "Ming Pao" published an article "Commentary: The U.S. Eavesdropping Unscrupulously and Europe’s Helpless Ending" stated: European media disclosed that the U.S. National Security Agency (NSA), with the assistance of the Danish intelligence agency, used the Danish submarine cable network to eavesdrop on Germany, Sweden, Norway and Germany for a long time. Politicians in the four countries of France, including German Chancellor Merkel. After the news was exposed, it caused an uproar in the international public. This was another "eavesdropping storm" after the European and American media broke out that Merkel's mobile phone was tapped by the United States eight years ago. Since U.S. President Biden will embark on his first European trip since taking office in the middle of this month, rebuilding mutual trust and cooperation across the Atlantic is one of the goals of this trip.
