Angelina Jolie, Daniel Craig, Elton John, Andrew Garfield, Saoirse Ronan Titles Among BFI London Film Festival Full Lineup

The 68th BFI London Film Festival has unveiled its star-studded 2024 lineup, featuring Angelina Jolie, Elton John, Daniel Craig, Florence Pugh, Andrew Garfield, Saoirse Ronan, and more in a program boasting 39 world premieres and 12 international premieres among its 253 feature, short, series and immersive works.

The festival’s headline gala screenings will showcase a range of high-profile films. The world premiere of Steve McQueen’s “Blitz” starring Ronan opens the festival, while Morgan Neville’s “Piece by Piece” closes it.

International premieres include Roshan Sethi’s “A Nice Indian Boy” with Karan Soni and Jonathan Groff, Sadie Frost’s documentary “Twiggy,” Kimberly Reed’s “I’m Your Venus,” and Jane Mingay’s “Pauline Black: A 2-Tone Story.”

The festival, running from Oct. 9-20, will screen works from 79 countries in 63 languages, with 44% of the program made by female and non-binary filmmakers.

April Monthly Recap

(So it turns out I wrote this and completely forgot to post it...whoops!) April was pretty successful - I read a lot of books I enjoyed, and I completed my calling in the Magical Readathon. My favorites this month were all sequels, in either the Kushiel's Dart universe or in the Toby Daye universe. (My month was 63% sequels!) My least favorite was Air Awakens, which I DNF'd pretty early on.

as much as sierra loves to pose for the camera and for him , she loves to be behind the camera too . call her sentimental . there's too many memories to count but here are some of her favorites . . .

𝐩𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐨 𝟏: 𝒎𝒂𝒏𝒉𝒂𝒕𝒕𝒂𝒏, 𝒏𝒆𝒘 𝒚𝒐𝒓𝒌

she was initially upset about their three day old kitchen island meeting its demise . although paxton knew how to make amends - a cartier bracelet , designer shoes , and probably her favorite gift of all : a puppy ! golden like the sun , affectionate and playful . she reminds sierra so much of him . and she fits in their lives perfectly . she captures a cute moment between them , focusing on his lips . that's when she leans up and steals a kiss .

𝐩𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐨 𝟐: 𝒒𝒖𝒆𝒆𝒏𝒔, 𝒏𝒆𝒘 𝒚𝒐𝒓𝒌

for his birthday , she surprised him with baseball tickets . it's truly a small token for everything that he has done for her . after they arrive , she reveals a custom jersey then announces that she pulled some strings for him to throw the first pitch . in her eyes , the only team that matters is theirs . but she's still cheering him on like a crazed fan because she'll always be his number one supporter . she had to snap a picture to remember the smile on his face .

𝐩𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐨 𝟑: 𝒎𝒂𝒏𝒉𝒂𝒕𝒕𝒂𝒏, 𝒏𝒆𝒘 𝒚𝒐𝒓𝒌

this picture is a reminder of their two dollar bet . sierra wins the game of beer pong . . . yet the way he stares at her is better than a winner's high . she carefully brings up that night in october , finally ready to share what all of this means to her . she starts to reveal her true feelings only to be silenced with a kiss . their real first kiss . first of plenty . when he pulls away , a bright smile graces her lips , happy to know that he likes her back .

𝐩𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐨 𝟒: 𝒃𝒓𝒐𝒐𝒌𝒍𝒚𝒏, 𝒏𝒆𝒘 𝒚𝒐𝒓𝒌

paxton is usually the prankster of the two . however , a celebratory dinner with close friends led to a frenzy of white cake and buttercream frosting after carelessly smashing his face into a cake . at first , she felt terrible . . . until she's met with boisterous laughter . she takes a photo despite being unable to control her own giggles . then she wipes some icing off his lips before giving him a kiss that tastes just as sweet if not sweeter .

𝐩𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐨 𝟓: 𝒎𝒊𝒍𝒂𝒏, 𝒊𝒕𝒂𝒍𝒚

a photo that shows a glimpse of their honeymoon tour - paris , mykonos , milan . she has many from their trip but this one is very typical of paxton . silly , happy , handsome all the same . it's hard to believe where they started and how far they've come , and she wouldn't have it any other way . paxton is her home now . no matter where they are in the world .

𝐩𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐨 𝟔: 𝒏𝒂𝒑𝒂 𝒗𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒚, 𝒄𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒏𝒊𝒂

they attended a mutual friend's wedding in california . it was a night full of dancing , drinking , and stupid fun . on the dance floor , she quickly takes a picture of him . selfishly , sierra couldn't wait for it to be their turn . she was counting down the days until she finally wears his last name . after all , sierra kimberly - mora has a nice ring to it .

Winter Wonderklok 2023 Day 14, "Baking Cookies"

synopsis: a WIP of how seven-year-old Nathan split his lip during a Christmas family reunion in Texas. cws: brief blood

The curtains above the kitchen sink fluttered in the breeze from the fan on top of her fridge, which had been turned slightly away from the birthplace of a couple dozen gingerbread people so that the powdered sugar wouldn't spray everywhere.

With all six of her grandchildren around her black granite kitchen island, Ann could finally watch how they all interacted, all at the same place and time, without their parents fussing or giving sharp looks. Julie wiped the shmutz off of the white cabinet doors when some frosting got out of her little brother's hands. The rosettes on the dress of Catherine's gingerbread princess weren't coming out evenly, and when an air bubble in her piping bag blew out a purple racoon turd onto the princess' right bubble sleeve, she sniffed up a whimper. Five blonde heads bobbled and passed sprinkles back and forth.

Nathan was halfway through making a family portrait out of gingerbread people glued to the facade of a gingerbread house whose sides were broken by Kimberly, the four-year-old in the room with the same flat look he wore all the time, except when a couple black strands of hair got blown into his split lip.

This morning was bright and a pregnant heifer started to labor by the edge of the pasture, right on time. There was nothing worse than having your arms twisted by a wet, slippery calving chain on Christmas morning, so Ann held her head high as she threw the puller over her shoulder and started pestering the frightened cow towards a pen by the old concrete milking parlor. All that was fine.

But Nathan followed her out to the pasture whenever he could get his boots on before she could speed off on the gator. There wasn't an opportunity to tell him no: he hopped in without a single word. Having a seven year old riding the gator with her wouldn't keep her from getting the work done, and his parents weren't too worried about lording over him, autism and all.

But Nathan never complained or changed his mind when he came along with her. He followed instructions the best he could, if they were clear enough, and fed calves while she fussed with their hutches. He opened gates and didn't cry when he shocked himself with the coily-corded opening of the electric pasture fence. He just climbed back in to his seat.

While she was walking the heifer over, moving left and right behind her to steer her while mucus dripped out of her backside, Nathan came jogging up to Ann from behind.

"Nathan, see that fence? Don't you dare follow me in there with this cow. She's going to have a calf… If you want to go back to the house, you can follow the road back up."

She didn't have to tell him to keep quiet so the cow wouldn't spook, but

"Do you hear me?"

"Yeah."

"Good."

The trio came up to the little three-sided pen lined with trampled manure, about twenty feet by twenty feet, made of spare fencing and two powder-coated aluminum gates. The cow went in, Ann went in, and she shut the gate that was behind them. The heifer got frantic the moment she heard the metal click against itself and started trying to dodge Ann left and right. Nathan stood by the side to the right of the one they had entered through a couple feet back, like he'd been told before.

While doing the dance with the heifer, back and forth all over the pen, she noticed the second gate in front of Nathan had a couple of inches of gap between itself and its latch, just enough to where it wasn't open and it wasn't quite closed. It wouldn't move on its own, but the heifer let out a grunt of agitation and charged towards it. Ann raced to try and get ahead of her, but not before the gate slammed up against the post and frightened the heifer so badly that she skidded in the dirt, with Nathan's whole weight pushing it from the other side!

"Good catch, Nate! Get back, now, Nana's got it."

The calf came out easy once the heifer settled down. She let Ann work behind her as well as any first-timer, and was immediately interested in the little black calf when he dropped out. Ann washed her arms in the spigot that came out of the building, and backed out of the second gate, with the washed chain and the puller.

"Ow!"

The gate knocked like it'd hit a rock, but the rock whimpered. Ann set the equipment in a patch of crabgrass, slammed the gate shut, and caught up with him as he walked back towards the calves' hutches and their unfinished chores, covering his entire face with his hands.

"Nathan, come here."

He stopped but didn't turn, rigid from the stretched neckline of his shirt to his muddy velcro shoes.

"Nathan?"

She moved to the side so he could see her, like introducing yourself to a horse, but instead he doubled down on trying to his face. He had one foot in front of the other, knees slightly bent, and he flinched forward when she reached a hand out to his forearm.

"Nathan, let Nana see you. I need to know if you're hurt."

"No," he sniffed.

"I just want to take a look, then I can take you back to the house--"

"No!" This time, he turned sharply to the left and stomped ahead groaning in frustration until it gave way to another fretted cry. She sighed and pushed her hair back with her forearm, just in time to hear him mumbling "ow" to himself. A pain squeezed Ann's head from the back of her neck to her forehead.

"Nathan… please turn around. Just show me what's hurt. You don't have to look at me."

She got close enough to put a hand on his upper arm and nudged him into turning around. He kept his eyes covered with his hands, but tilted his head up so she could see the split on his bottom lip and a small trail of blood (and spit) that came down his chin. All the time, his nose was running and he was turning red from holding his breath. It fluttered out onto her fingers anyway as she carefully manipulated his chin to get his bottom lip to move without touching the split with her hands (spigot water counted for something, but not much.)

"Good boy. Your lip's split. Do your teeth feel weird? Push 'em with your tongue and check."

He took his hands down and his fit of tears turned into sucking up snot and concentration as he moved his tongue around. Ann dug a kerchief out of her pocket and handed it to him.

"You can blow your nose. I'd cry too if a gate hit me in the mouth."

Nathan nodded, and smeared some dirt on his face when he wiped his tears.

"Ready to go back to the house?"

"N-No."

"No?"

He pointed towards the hutches and the work sheds.

"You want to finish up first?"

"Yeah."

"You sure? We can go to the house, fix you up, and go back?" Who wouldn't feel bad after hitting their grandson with a gate?

THIS WAS SO CUUUUTTTTTEEEEE!!! i liked the way the author portrayed the genuine hell that being stuck at 17 would be. please get me out of here i want a fully developed frontal lobe. AW and all of the characters were super likable. truly so adorable i was squealing the whole time.

im knocking a point off for the romance being a littttllllleeeee rushed and the character descriptions feeling off (it felt odd that both pov characters categorized every single person into a specific race? i think its good practice to make a characters race clear, but idk if that applies to a random teacher with no dialogue). to be so real though i loved this book enough that it didn't bother me too much.

How can he be 17 already? We have been avoiding the news channels, but the next administration's bizarre nominations either made us sick or made us want to scream or both. Friday night arrived and it felt strange not to be rushing out of the house to a football game. Can I be in high school football withdrawal? I checked the scores at the end of the night and saw the school that beat us last week had lost, only scoring 6 points to the other team's 12 so it must have been a game heavy on defense. The winner now plays for the division state championship on Thursday night. Then we can all look forward to next year. How was your week? May Writing Challenge Day 1

Drabble Prompt #7: "Well, this went horribly wrong..."

The room was a mess. Cake was splattered across almost every surface after the pastry had exploded. The guests were still gaping in horror. In the middle of it all stood George and Kimberly, covered head to toe in cake.

Across the room, Emmy's eyes were wide as she stared down at her wedding dress, now stained pink with frosting. Daniel, on the other hand, was glaring at the culprits. George in particular. By him stood Kimberly's dad, looking more disappointed than ever.

It had seemed like a great plan at the time. It wasn't supposed to end up this bad…
