ERIC DUNN
Hooray for Viking
Eric Dunn and his wife Wendy have owned three Vikings – all named Hooray, also the moniker of their world-class hunting ranch in Kingman, Kansas – and are currently building their fourth boat. Their Viking ownership experience began with a 55 Convertible followed by hull No. 1 of the 80 Convertible, which took first place in the 2017 Bisbee Los Cabos Offshore Tournament. Their current Viking, a 68 Convertible, will fish in a handful of tournaments this summer in a variety of locations, including the Mobile Big Game Fishing Club Memorial Day Tournament out of Orange Beach, Alabama, and the August 5-9 White Marlin Open out of Ocean City, Maryland. But it’s not all about fishing for Eric, Wendy and their teen-age son, Tucker. They also enjoy vacations on their Vikings and have already experienced a lifetime of memories on the water with family and friends. Their latest adventure? Participating for the first time in the 2019 Viking Key West Challenge. That’s where Valhalla caught up with Eric. In a conversation in the salon of his four-stateroom yacht, Eric talks about the importance of customer service, the performance of the “cuttingedge” Viking convertibles, the power of the people of Viking and his close connection with his dealer, Galati Yacht Sales. You’ll also hear from Wendy and Tucker, too, as they share a few of their unforgettable Viking experiences.

The Bahamas 2024, heading home Part 7.
Time to start working our way home. About 345 nautical miles, little to no sight seeing along the way. We refuel at Salt Pond, Long Island. Then spend one more night at a remote anchorage in Grey’s Bight Long Island, near the blue hole.
I collect 5 sheepwool sponges, and clean them everyday. The first couple of days are the worst. They stink and the flies are thick. So we leave them in the dinghy. Tailwinds are a problem heading downwind. Each day I change the water and squeeze them multiple times to clean out the organic material.
Heading up Comer Channel seas are flat. But the wind is forecast to pick up. We anchor behind a very small island on the back side of Great Exuma. Winds will be blowing from the East for the next couple days. But we can hide from the worst of the waves behind the Exumas and not burn fuel motoring.
We run 100 miles up the Exumas and then top off at Staniel Cay Yacht Club.
Buy the time we leave Normans Cay for our run to West Bay New Providence winds have died down making an easy crossing.
One night in West Bay. Weather window is holding for our crossing of Tongue Of The Ocean (TOTO) the next day.
Three dolphin send us on our way early in the morning.
Near “the pocket” of TOTO, fish are abundant. We cross paths with three Short Fin Pilot Whales, in the photo above. More than likely they are young males. As you can see seas are flat for a nice crossing. We will anchor on “the Bank” in 20 feet of water after a 75 mile day. We will hide from boat traffic on the back side of Mackie Shoal.
Above is the wreck of the Hesperus on “the Bank”, east of Bimini.
This is North rock just off Bimini, looks like a submarine with a periscope.
This is Radio Beach Bimini. Normally a great place to anchor out of the swells. With easy departure before daylight to cross the Gulf Stream. With the recent addition of cruise ships bringing tourist. A jet skies concession has opened up. So they were flying around. But at sunset things settled down.
Sunrise in the Gulf Stream with freighters passing behind us. Several hours out we hear a May Day call from a private vessel with a fire in the engine room. US Coast Guard could not hear them, so I answered them. They had lost all power. USCG could hear us, so we relayed information between the two. Fire was out, but they were adrift and required a tow.
We had a great crossing with calm seas and entered Biscayne Bay at Stiltsville. About a dozen weekend party homes still left. Turn down Biscayne Bay and check in with US Customs via their app. All goes well and we are cleared in to the country with out having to go to their office.
Once I get the above message it is a huge relief for me. People sometimes have to jump through some major hoops. Or even pay huge fines if they mistakenly bring in a food item. We end up anchoring for the night in the bay near Ocean Reef. Several dolphins cruise by at day break. We cross to the ocean but can only make 2 knots without overheating the engine. After anchoring behind Tavernier Key, Nancy finds a huge ball of seaweeed wrapped around the prop.
After we got home and prepared the boat for Hurricane season, I disassembled the heat exchanger on the engine. This is part of the reason the engine was overheating. It needs to be serviced every 1,000 hours.
This is the hose leading into the heat exchanger. The black oblong thing in the center is the only area the water could come through the rest is calcification. Had to throw out this hose and give the heat exchanger an acid bath. Ready for next years Bahamas cruise.

Circling the Lake
My blood sugar dipped to 263 on Monday morning. We fixed oatmeal for breakfast for the first time in at least a couple of months. We nearly forgot how to do it, but we were reminded how long it took to actually boil the water and cook the oatmeal.
Later we decided to take a drive around Fern Ridge Lake. The afternoon temperature was in the mid-70s, a nice day for a drive. We took OR 126 and arrived in Veneta about 2 p.m. Veneta is about a dozen miles west of Eugene. Its population today is just over 5,000, and it is the site of the annual Oregon Country Fair.
Having spotted a place to eat on the map and checked out its website and reviews, we decided to stop for a late lunch before making the circuit. Our Daily Bread Restaurant and Bakery resides in a refurbished old church. It offers sandwiches, salads, seafood, burgers, steak, breakfasts, soups and homemade bread. The building was a Pentecostal church that was brought to Veneta in the 1940s in pieces from an armory in the Corvallis area.
When the church eventually moved, several small businesses and galleries occupied the building. It was later purchased by a couple who refurbished the building, adding a steeple, chapel and kitchen, and created a bakery they called “Our Daily Bread.” Another couple bought the bakery in 2005 and created a full-service restaurant. Nearly 20 years later, it has become a popular destination spot and is often referred to as the “gem of Veneta.”
Nancy and I each ordered a half sandwich, which turned out to be a good idea, given the size. She got the Turkey San, fresh roasted turkey breast with lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise and cranberry sauce on whole wheat bread. I chose the Featherbenders Grill, built with sliced turkey breast, Swiss cheese, tomato, and bacon on herb parmesan bread. I had them put the avocado on a side plate and gave it to Nancy. The turkey on both sandwiches was excellent. The roasted flavor was outstanding.
Heading north on Territorial Highway, we finally came to Clear Lake Road, which turned east across the northern boundary of the lake. Also known as Fern Ridge Reservoir, it was built on the Long Tom River by the Army Corps of Engineers and encompasses more than 12,000 acres. From the reservoir, the Long Tom joins the Willamette south of Salem.
The Fern Ridge Dam was built in 1942 and provides flood control, irrigation, recreation, navigation, and improved downstream water quality. The water level is kept high from May through September for recreation purposes.
Fern Ridge is home to multiple parks and yacht clubs, both private and county-managed. During the summer, strong winds develop in the afternoon. Because these winds are quite reliable, Fern Ridge has become a popular sailing destination for the nearby population. The Eugene Yacht Club hosts several annual regattas.
We made a brief stop at Richardson Park on the northwest corner of the lake and watched as boats sailed over the water. Several families were present enjoying kayaking. We also pulled over near the dam to take a few pictures. Two couples were fishing in the outflow from the dam.
There are several other areas bordering the lake we did not see, so we will no doubt make another visit to the area at some point.
On the way back to Springfield, we went by Jerry’s once again and found a doorknob for the door between the kitchen and garage. From the look of the existing knob it had been replaced before, perhaps because the keys had been previously lost. When we reached home we set up the new bright red umbrella we got earlier on the back deck.
Given the timing of our lunch, we just snacked for dinner about 7 p.m., with cheese and salami and chips and salsa and garlic spread. Then we munched on peanuts while entertaining ourselves with episodes of “Signora Volpe” on Acorn and “HPI” on Hulu.

Unique Use Cases Where NFTs Will Dominate 2023
NFTs can be used for much more than being speculative with works of art. This 2023 we will see many practical uses that will change our lives
A lot has changed in the NFT space in the last year. While in 2021,non-fungible tokens (NFT)absolutely exploded, in 2022,Web3saw the maturation of the NFT space accelerate thanks to a bear market. Of course, artists continued to find ways to support themselves, andNFT collectorsThey evolved into prominent Web3 builders, but the wild west that was the NFT market cooled significantly.
Of course, this is not bad. In fact, far from it. Although many investors and influencers quickly fell silent when the million-dollar profits stopped rolling in, the NFT space as a whole was propelled forward. The collectibles and large-scale PFP projects that dominated the market began to decline, and other, often overshadowed, use cases began to emerge.
But we're not just talking about Sound.xyz's secondary sales of music NFTs, which surpassed 5 million dollars, or the editions of photographic NFTs that went viral. While these are undoubtedly big wins for artists, advances in blockchain technology and the shift from Web2 to Web3 have helped solidify a number of NFT use cases that could have the potential to game-change the metaverse as we know it. In 2023, these growth sectors will certainly be worth keeping a close eye on.
Ticket sales and attendance receipts
Perhaps one of the most undervalued sectors of the NFT market is ticket sales. Considered by many to be very useful for the future of live events, NFT ticketing is precisely what it sounds like: tickets in the form of NFTs that live on a blockchain and act as access passes to any live (or even virtual) event.
With NFTs, ticket senders and receivers can benefit in several ways. Issuers can more comprehensively track attendance figures using the blockchain as a ledger, while also engaging with ticket holders in a new and innovative way through NFTs. Issuers can send notices, host surprise giveaways, create tokenized sites and services, and much more, simply by matching data associated with the holders of a specific NFT entry.
On the other hand, attendees at events where NFT tickets are not issued can also be rewarded afterwards. With POAP, the Proof of Attendance Protocol, users can create and issue commemorative badge-style NFTs, which can provide many of the same utilities as NFT tickets. Often, users only have to scan a QR code or enter a specific phrase to collect a POAP, making the barrier to entry significantly low and accessible to those not versed in blockchain technology.
While NFTs and POAPs may seem like just a fun incentive for event attendees, they have continued to be useful for project founders to keep track of early contributors. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that both NFT tickets and POAPs are helping to change the way we think about fandom on Web3.
Memberships
While it is true that NFT-based affiliations grew and developed alongside POAP projects, they have since become their own unique sector of the NFT market. Used primarily by brands and programs, these types of NFTs act as access keys to unlock incentives and rewards for those who own them. Membership with NFTs is often done through token-gating, which uses blockchain technology to verify ownership of an NFT and grant its holders access to any member-only benefits offered. This can be implemented on Discord servers, in-person or virtual events, etc.
Create Your Marketplace here : NFT Marketplace Development Company
One of the first examples of NFT affiliation is the Boring Apes Yacht Club. By simply owning a BAYC NFT, holders have had access to merchandise drops, music festivals, subsequent NFT releases, and much more. Projects likeLinksDAO, LoudPunx and Flyfish Club remain two of the most ambitious membership initiatives, while platforms likeFriends With Benefits nOne They have become archetypes of organizations that seek to launch membership passes.
NFTs have gone even beyond the idea of a simple subscription, incorporating shared ownership and voting. For example,Rug Radio. Created by featured influencer and builder FarokhTo be a decentralized Web3 media platform, the ethos of the project is to be of the community and for the community, as a platform owned by its consumers. For this reason, Rug Radio issued NFTs ofMembership Pass, which grant their holders the ability to vote on proposals and participate in important decisions.
Soulbound Tokens
TheSoulbound TokensThey are non-transferable NFTs, making them ideal for managing permanent records. Instead of storing vulnerable records on paper to be passed down from generation to generation, SBTs could provide us with a better way to verify important information on the blockchain.
But taking care of paper records is just a single feature of these SBTs, initially proposed by Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin. Designed to serve as a comprehensive set of tools for Internet users to preserve and protect their identity, if released as planned, SBTs could have a significant impact on our daily lives. Through SBTs, medical records, academic achievements, alumni status, work histories, criminal records and everything else can be minted as an NFT with immutable and non-transferable ownership.
While it is true that SBTs may not be possible at scale until a fully decentralized society is achieved, there is growing evidence that they could become a reality in 2023. But where? Well, in addition to Buterin himself alluding to the possibility that they could (have been) implemented at the end of 2022, companies like Moonpay have already announced initiatives along the same lines as the SBT. Maybe it's just a matter of time before we see the first real-life use case.
Physical x digital
Characterized as a fusion of the physical and the digital, phygital has built another layer on top of the concept of digital property, allowing artists and developers to convert their physical creations into NFTs, and vice versa. Although the term phygital itself has attracted opposition due to its abrasive phonetics and basic portmanteau nature, the popularity of these products is undeniable.
Phygital products come in a wide variety of forms. From toys to collectibles and even more traditional forms of art like sculptures and paintings, the line between the physical and the digital continues to dissolve for the creators of Web3. However, one of the most popular use cases to emerge from this new market sector has been wearables. Perhaps the best example of this is companies like 9dcc and RTFKT, which continue to produce shoes, t-shirts, and other fashion items powered by NFTs.
And while physical goods sound a bit futuristic, wearable digital goods have been around for a long time through video games like Fortnite. In fact, Fortnite skins were what first inspired 9dcc founder Gmoney to venture into digital collectibles, as he saw the potential of digital ownership and the importance of future generations understanding that potential. If investment giants like him, and fashion powerhouses like Nike are setting their sights on fitgital, the rest of the Web3 would be smart to do the same.
Artificial intelligence
Whether we like it or not, artificial intelligence is here, and it seems to be here to stay. From tools like ChatGPT, whichThey proliferate in almost all sectors, to AI-generated art, which is becoming a hot and controversial topic among online communities, the AI boom we are experiencing now seems similar, if not larger, than the initial NFT boom of 2021.
However, there is almost no doubt that AI will have a greater reach and impact on society at large than even NFTs can muster at the moment. But it is not due to the latest AI boom, but to the digital nature of the NFT space in general, where developers, artists and programmers converge. So why should we keep an eye on AI in 2023?
Well, because it has advanced very significantly only in the last year. With the advent of DALL-E, ChatGPT, and other tools, the ethics of creating and selling AI art have been questioned. Although many critics fear the new paradigm of AI art, others have accepted it as inevitable. But still, works created by AI currently lack the “human authorship” necessary to grant rights intended to protect the artist. A slippery slope, to be sure.
And what else?
Regardless of the benefits and speculation, the five use cases listed above are undeniably prominent within the NFT space as we head into 2023. Some may fade, others could come to dominate the market entirely, or perhaps some invisible force will appear and change the ecosystem even more. However, there is no doubt that each of these cases of NFT innovation has contributed, if only a little, to moving the conversation around the usefulness of blockchain technology in modern society beyond the niche. to the mainstream.

September 24 - I haven’t posted since July. Oh my! Molly D had a very busy summer of travel. She visited Block Island, Newport, Cuttyhunk, Vineyard Haven, Edgartown, Oak Bluffs, Nantucket, Hyannis, Provincetown and Salem (MA). Whew! On October 1 or thereabouts, Molly D will begin her winter journey down the east coast. Highlights of the trip will be stops in Annapolis, Solomons (MD), Hampton (VA), Coinjock (NC), Southport (NC), Beaufort ( NC), Charleston, Fernandina (FL), St Augustine, Vero Beach and Key West. There are many one night stops that I didn’t mention. Most of those stops are an anchoring spot and we do not get off the boat. I’m hoping we will be in Mile Hammock Bay (Camp LeJeune) around Halloween. A older couple in a small, antique power boat has been known to cruise through the anchorage, stop at each anchored boat, and hand out Halloween candy. We had good timing one year and we’re gifted a couple of bags of candy (most of it “good” candy!). The couple said that the Halloween trick or treating has been their tradition for over 30 years. How cute is that??? Here are photos of some of Molly D’s summer travels.

When Should I Take a Private Yacht Charter
Where do you want to go on a private yacht charter vacation? There are limitless possibilities, according to crewed yacht brokers. Popular destinations for a United States sailing vacation include San Diego, Chicago, Yachts Cayman, Honolulu, Hilton Head, Martha's Vineyard, Fort Lauderdale, Galveston, Long Island and Annapolis, yet why stop there? A whole lot more awaits you, which are all discoverable by power boats and luxury yacht charters!
A Mediterranean private yacht charter has much to offer. In Spain, you can discover the passionate flamingo dancers and proud matadors, sip sangria, eat delicious olives and enjoy modern marinas from Barcelona to Valencia. Euro club goers and party animals can't miss the amazing entertainment venues on Ibiza, where vibrant beaches are as world renowned as the nightlife.
Some of the other Balearic Islands offer a quieter respite, from the secluded beaches of Formentera, to the cobble street village of Cindadella, to the culture-rich fishing village of Mallorca to the National Park on Dragonera. Other Mediterranean destinations include Greece, Croatia, Turkey, France and Italy.
For those chilly winter months, why not take a private yacht charter to the warm Caribbean waters? Travelers come to the Virgin Islands, the Cayman Islands, Jamaica, the Florida Keys and the Bahamas for the white sandy beaches, the pleasant trade winds, turquoise waters, West Indian cuisine and fun activities year-round.
There are more than 100 Virgin Islands, offering a plethora of coves for snorkeling, swimming, scuba diving, surfing, marine-life watching and lounging. On the shores, you will enjoy dancing, frozen blender drinks, crafts from local artisans and the dramatic mountain peak topography.
In the Bahamas, you can feast on spicy cuisine, fish on beautiful beaches, snorkel underwater grottos, gaze upon a habitat of 60,000 flamingos, star gaze the midnight skies, dance in nightclubs and splash around at the world-renowned Atlantis water-park and culture center. A sailing charter in the Cayman Islands will whisk you away to the famous Seven Mile Beach (one of the best in the world!), the historic Pedro St. James castle, scuba diving shipwrecks in Cayman Brac, bird watching the rare red-footed Booby on Little Cayman and partaking in the museums and shops of George Town. Nothing beats the winter blues like a Caribbean yacht excursion!

CHARACTER HISTORY [TW: CHILD NEGLECT, DOMESTIC ABUSE]
Jeb Boregard may have never met his father, but the man’s reputation set a path that would make it difficult for him to stray from. With his father in prison indefinitely following a failed attempt at a robbery, living in the slums would be the only way of life the Boregards would ever amount to. His mother had learned how to work her away around raising a son on her own at fifteen in the absence of Jeb’s father and her step son.
Jeb had been named after the man, a sad syllable that went like Jed, but his mother regretted it after a month. She would tie bows in his hair as a child and send him along for a second time in lines where they were given free things, pretending that it was her second child that needed a serving, a sample, a free thing. Eventually, the Boregards would be recognized and Jeb was dubbed Bowie for his mother’s attempts against the system.
Bowie has lived in the Key his whole life, and the mobile home and its residents had seen him grow up to be the man he is today. From sticking his head in windows to scope out what he didn’t have in comparison to the other trailers in the park and hiding from CPS when they came around because of his absences from school, Bowie was the child without any parental figures that Bahama Village wanted anything but the responsibility to raise.
At sixteen, Bowie’s mother left the Key after running off with a man who won the Florida lottery. His mother paid off their trailer and rent for nearly four years with the intention of coming back, but she never did. Postcards stopped coming just as quickly as they started, and Bowie was left to his own devices early on.
After finishing high school and working at the Key West Yacht Club as a waiter, he met the woman who would soon be the bane of his existence. Ainsley flirted with him the moment they met and a soft familiarity with the other during high school became infatuation and trust that was driven by the approval of her family, the taste of the Kook life, and someone who wanted to teach Bowie rather than scold him. This didn’t last very long, though. Ainsley wanted an escape and Bowie’s independence offered her that, and she would swallow it whole and make it her own soon enough.
Her family assisted him in his endeavors after they started dating in hopes of making him worthy of their daughter after they accepted that they couldn’t shake him off. This didn’t last very long. Eventually Ainsley became erratic and her hunger for her own desires drove a wedge between her and her family, the trouble she sought making her difficult to handle. She went to Bowie for comfort and eventually, she never left his side but that was only by binding him to her. Bowie left the Key for the first time following what she believed were their needs but in actuality were only hers. They settled in New York at twenty and Ainsley completed her studies at Luxor University. Bowie eventually found it difficult to keep up with her and in attempt to win back her parents attention and approval after she drove a wedge between them, she assisted in his application process and he was accepted as a Marine Biology major, something that was the last reflection of the Key in his ultimate endeavors.
The strength of their relationship, however, did not settle. She constantly threatened to leave him, but Bowie knew that even if he was tired of her, he now relied on her in order to survive in a city he didn’t know and in a world that was far from his own. He gave into Luxor, he gave into all of her expectations, and there is now very little left of him and it’s never coming back. He simply had to convince himself that with her, their twisted lie of love was enough and he was better than he’d ever been.
PRESENT DAY [TW: DOMESTIC ABUSE]
Ainsley blamed Bowie for her every one of her downfalls and any hiccups in her lifestyle and relationships with those in New York, and arguments like these always left them at odds. Throughout the eight years they’d been together, their outbursts only got worse. The concerned calls to their Manhattan apartment came with a weariness where the station often waited for two calls of concern about apartment 207 rather than coming immediately. However, the situation was always harder for than to assess than they thought the first few times and it was Ainsley that they were concerned over much more than Bowie on those calls. If only they knew it was Ainsley who had thrown the first place, the first vase, who broke the TV, and had left every cry and shout on his skin in fading yellow and blue swirls of color on his skin.
Bowie and Ainsley have been on and off as a couple for the years they’d been together. He often tried to spark a different concern, but it always ended up the same. Instead, the nights he ended up with someone else on those breaks were dedicated to pretending it was Ainsley’s touch that was that gentle.
Bowie now has been attending Luxor University for two years and has found ways to busy himself while balancing school and a long distance relationship that has its woes even thousands of miles away.
