"It's alright to sit down next to me, you know. I'm not going to crumble into dust." He understands the urge to find a back corner: Sarunan can't say he enjoys the cacophony of the airship all the time. They both have their ears lowered -- neither of them is comfortable, here, but he's trying anyways. (He has to try or he won't get any better. He has to try or Kazann will make fun of him again.) "And...Kazann says you look like you overwork yourself like I do, too. So you can sit here."
had his own room not been blocked by commotion, then it would have been there that he'd have chosen to settle himself.
beggars could not be choosers. and, at the very least... if he had to have company, it seemed it would be company that understood his unspoken plights in regards to the noise.
with uncertain steps, he redistributes his weight evenly and brings himself away from the wall, taking himself over to the seat so graciously offered to him. but, once he's there...
he pauses. waits, for a moment. to see if he's really fine with this. if it's really okay with him for Seox occupying the space beside him. ... and, he supposed, to give him a moment to adjust to someone else being in his bounds.
giving up his own personal space could be hard, too, at times. the flare of anxiety that came at someone entering his bubble was undeniable. he accounts for it, before finally taking his seat and... trying to relax there.
`` ... Kazann? ``

"Miss Ladiva is teaching me how to help make drinks for the kids for the holidays. They won't feel left out this way." The movements of his hands are practiced: measure of fizzing water, syrup, juice, candied orange peel -- offered out in one of Sarunan's long-fingered hands, the layers sparkling red and green and clear like the decorations on the ship. "You're not a child anymore, but sweets are universal. We've both grown a lot since we met, haven't we, Captain? A couple of years ago I wouldn't be sure I'd even be here now, but I'm healthy enough again because of you and the others. And I pretty much watched you grow up from on deck or during errands. I'll be here as long as you need -- as will Kazann, I'm sure."
It's fascinating, the sight before them. They had seen scenes like this before, whether it was when accompanying friends around town, or dragging them home late at night, or, like now, in the cozy corner of Raduga. Cooking was something they knew, making drinks however, no matter how simple, not so much. Knowledge of what would taste great, and what would look great, and the excitement of enjoying something new. Mm, no matter what everyone usually drank they were going to love this, Captain's insurance.
They thought it'd end there. A showcase of skill that Gran would then beg him to teach them, a nice, lively afternoon while the area slowly would fill up with other people from the crew. Whenever they accepted less requests everything seemed to become more lively, unlikely friendships blooming here and there across the ship, a heartwarming sight of a future they had only dreamed about. How strange that's how things turned out.
Because of you and the others, he says, and Gran thinks he's giving them too much credit. All they did was staying by the side of a friend. But they don't talk back at him, the warmth of his words spreading to their cheeks, a fond smile they'd never be able to hide. They had daydreamed about this—travelling with friends, fighting monsters, saving civilians—in a house too big for two. And yet, none of those extravagant dreams could compare to the friends they would gain. I'll be here as long as you need, are you sure? Are you really, really sure? It's fine if you aren't. They're scared sometimes, of people leaving, but when he speaks of it like that, when he speaks of the years he has spent by their side, they think they can take comfort in those words, no matter what future comes. The lonely captain and the lonely crew and the lonely ship. They didn't believe in fate, they were going to make their own path, however, meeting Sarunan, meeting Kazann, meeting everyone, couldn't be anything less than a blessing.
"Can you teach me?" they ask. Never one to know what to say in times like these, but their eyes makes it clear: an eternal gratitude.
#miraculpa#matt this ask. has been in the back of my mind since u sent it. RAAAUUUGHHHHHHHHH#I NVR THOUGHT ID HAVE PPL TOUCHING ONTO THIS. "Where are you going? Why are you walking away so fast?" It isn't as though Sarunan is not used to unnerving others: people tend to react with instant endearment or moderate discomfort, with little middle ground. But, well. Those people are mortal and their understanding of fear is natural. This? This is just awkward. ╱ @miraculpa
It is less about Sarunan's presence and more about the entity that follows him wherever he goes. Kazann is a mystery, one that reminds him of the otherworld beings (and isn't that a sore subject? Sometimes his chest still aches) and loath as he is to admit it, that scares him.
He'd almost forgotten what it felt like, fear.
When the astrals were still young and Bahamut had not yet turned his back on the realms, Kazaan was there. When Shalem created from her flesh and blood the second dusk god, Kazann was there. When the dusk god chose a form and a name of his own, Kazann was there.
Where are you going?
He wants to respond with "why are you asking", but that would lead into a lengthier encounter than he was willing to deal with, wouldn't it?
❝ Where I go is not your concern, cicada. I have matters to attend to, and I may come and go as I please. ❞
#miraculpa#sarunan is a cicada bc he is loud and brief in existence and hard to get rid of as we said on discord lmao

"You haven't really gotten to eat many vegetables yet, have you?" He's popping cherry tomatoes into his mouth with one hand, absently picking some up and holding them up to what seems like thin air (only for it to disappear as Kazann accepts her offerings). Sarunan is simply used to sharing his food; he was raised in a household that normalized this, and even on the airship, he's this way. "Would you like to try a cherry tomato? They're good."
Since settling (at least somewhat) among the terrans, the skydwellers (how contradictory to call them both!), Tyrias had been gien the opportunity to learn about the planet that defied him in a gentle way. This was not the eat or be eaten society of Iliyon Prime, it wasn't the well oiled society of Reibos, but somewhere in between.
Tyrias found that this time, he liked the skydwellers quite a bit. Not that he often found paths where he ended up disliking them (mainly because there were few paths where he did not meet Airi, to whom the entire skydom owed quite the thank you- she'd managed to unintentionally charm the Iliyonite emperor and had done more than prevent a full scale intergalactic war).
Among skydwellers, Sarunan was ... peculiar. Bonded to a deity that very few could see, there was very little that the Erune seemed to fear. Certainly not Andromeda's overlord, who Sarunan instead proffered a small vegetable. ❝ I see no reason not to, ❞ because Iliyonites were always fond of food. He takes the cherry tomato and pops it in his mouth.
Sarunan's right. It is a good taste. Tyrias realizes that maybe he should add more vegetables to his diet.

Episode 1418: “Something” Lurking Unseen
Translator Notes:
Oh boy, it’s hard to sufficiently convey just how aggressive You is being in the first panel. Her exclamation reads as, Ussee!! Damattero temee wa!, which is a lot to unpack. Ussee is a super-casual form of urusai, which literally means “noisy”, but when used as an exclamation, can also have the connotations of the English exclamation “shut up”. Damattero is similarly a super-casual command form of damatte iru, which means “to be quiet”. Temee is a very rough-sounding second-person pronoun that implies contempt of the person you’re speaking to.
It’s also important here to understand that when you’re speaking in Japanese using casual language to someone who isn’t a close friend, that’s almost always going to come across as contemptuous. And the command form in Japanese - almost never seen outside of Japanese media towards one you hate - is pretty much always going to come across as rough and aggressive.
So in one tiny exclamatory outburst, You has managed to be rough, rude, and aggressive three times and to tell Ninetales to be quiet in contemptuous language twice. Yeaaaah. Hoo boy, she mad. I only wish I could convey this properly in English, but to get the same effect there, I’d have to use a lot of profanity. Probably something along the lines of, "Shut the fuck up and eat a dick, you god-damned piece of shit!” Not exactly material appropriate for Granblue Fantasy.
Also, one other note: in the Japanese script for this comic, there was an aside in the third panel defining the term imajinarii furendo for Japanese readers, which I just completely removed. I figured that English speakers probably did not need to have “imaginary friend” defined for them, given that that’s, y’know... an English phrase.
