Particle Orbits

One of the first things after landing in Tallinn the other day was to check out a warehouse exhibition by the printmaker Evi Tihemets and the photographer Kaupo Kikkas.

Both artists were at the show; one of the ideas is to show the connections drawing their work together, taken out of the thin air just by virtue of having some similar frames and perspectives on Estonian landscape and the world around them.

Tihemets (above left) is in her 90s, born in the railway junction town of Tapa in the middle of the country. Her graphic work is varied in its spectrum from monochrome to bold pop colors; is happy within both geometric and abstract terms and more fine line aspects, often with a dash of sly humor.

Kikkas is from Tallinn and in his early 40s. His photography (broadly speaking) is more on the meditative and still side, drawing from landscape and (at least in this show) mounted on aluminum or brushed metal.

He's also a moving-picture fellow:

altogether pretty super.
