Zanskar Tour
Travelers seeking pristine, pristine beauty in India can visit Zanskar, the most isolated Himalayan valley. The frozen Zanskar River, the Chadar Trek, and the ice waterfalls are must-sees while you're there. These Buddhist monasteries are highly recommended for a visit. The best months to go are April through August. Access: You must pull over here if you're driving to Leh-Ladakh. By bus or motorbike is the most convenient method to get here. Stay: Continue to stay in Leh or set up tent in the valley. It is advisable to spend at least three days here. Try spending two weeks touring every popular spot in the Himalayan region, if you're feeling especially adventurous.

How was Ladakh? I heard it's very scenic, I've been meaning to visit.
I've been mulling this over for a while, because this trip to Ladakh was also my first time in India, and thus the two things are a bit intertwined. Also one must take into consideration that most of what I saw outside of Leh, I saw while clinging to the back of a motorbike, often wondering if I was sustaining brain damage. I suspected the natural wonders were twice as awe-inspiring when observed with the knowledge that they could be the last thing I ever saw. If you want to go on two wheels, do get proper gear and think twice about riding pillion.
That said, it really was gorgeous out there.
If you like mountains, it's the place to be. If you like Tibetan Buddhist monasteries, it's also the place to be. I wasn't sure what to expect in regards to human interactions, but on my own in Leh there was basically no hassle from strangers. If anything the hassle was that the tour office the guesthouse recommended did not have anyone going on the route I wanted to take- which was how I ended up on a motorcycle trek with some random guys from the guesthouse to begin with. For the rest of it, they handled everything, for which I'm eternally grateful.
If you get the chance to go, go! I'm glad I went, but if I could go back in time I'd also be better prepared for the elements- despite copious amounts of sunblock eventually I had to accept that I was just going to be sunburnt, cracked, and chapped, with dried out nasal passages. It also gets really cold, even in June. I didn't bring enough warm stuff cause I only had a carry-on and I figured I'd just buy something there (which inevitably I did), but then no one from any airline actually checked my luggage weight at any point, so I kinda wish I'd just brought a whole ass winter coat. Two weeks was also not enough, I stuck around Leh to acclimatise for 4 days (which felt like overkill at first but it was really a good idea), and only ended up seeing Nubra Valley, Pangong Tso, and Alchi Monastery with the guys. I had hoped to also see Tso Moriri and Hanle but was too worn out by the time they left, and spent the rest of my days hanging around Leh feeling rather ill.
All in all, I wasn't really sure what to expect in going, but it exceeded all expectations. I also think if I had not already been on enough terrible roads in various countries in the past, I might have been slightly overwhelmed. If I hadn't been in the company of people who were fond of street dogs (and finally desensitised me), I probably would not have had as good a time because there are a lot of them. They do make quite a racket at night, bring earplugs. In the end though, the pros certainly outweigh the cons (and obviously I survived and came back to tell the tale.) If you're looking for scenic, I give it 11/10, possibly more.
Final note, Indian SIM cards don't work in Ladakh, but the Ladakh SIM card works in India (I'm not sure about Jammu + Kashmir). J+K Bank ATMs did NOT want to dispense me cash with my foreign card (unfortunate because they were the only ones outside the city), but other banks worked fine.

How to Reach Tulail Valley: A Complete Guide for Travelers Nestled in the serene landscapes of Jammu and Kashmir, Tulail Valley is a hidden gem for nature lovers and adventure enthusiasts. With its pristine beauty, the valley remains relatively unexplored, offering a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of urban life. In this article, we will take you through a detailed guide on how to reach Tulail Valley, covering various modes of transport, necessary preparations, and tips for a safe and enjoyable journey.
Understanding Tulail Valley Before embarking on a journey to Tulail Valley, it's essential to understand the location and its significance. The valley lies in the Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir, in the northernmost region of India. Known for its breathtaking landscapes, lush green meadows, and gushing rivers, the valley is a haven for trekkers and nature enthusiasts. It remains relatively untouched by commercial tourism, making it an ideal destination for those looking for off-the-beaten-path experiences. Tulail Valley is a part of the larger Kashmir Valley and is accessible from the town of Baramulla, which acts as the closest major urban center. The valley’s seclusion and the challenging terrain mean that visitors must be well-prepared for the journey, but the reward is worth the effort—an opportunity to witness nature at its purest form.
Modes of Transport Reaching Tulail Valley involves a combination of road and, in some cases, trekking. Here are the key steps for planning your journey:
A. By Air: The nearest airport to Tulail Valley is Sheikh ul-Alam International Airport in Srinagar, located about 50 kilometers away. Srinagar is well-connected to major cities across India, such as Delhi, Mumbai, and Jammu, with regular flights from domestic carriers.
Steps: A. Book a flight to Srinagar from your nearest airport. B. Once you arrive in Srinagar, you can hire a taxi service in Srinagar or take a local bus to reach Baramulla, which is about a two-hour drive from Srinagar. C. From Baramulla, your journey to Tulal Valley will likely involve road transport, followed by a trek if the road network doesn't reach the valley.
B. By Train: For travelers who prefer to travel by train, the nearest railway station to Tulail Valley is in Srinagar, with the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link being the most popular railway line. This railway line connects Jammu and Kashmir with the rest of India, making it a good option for travelers coming from various parts of the country.
Steps: A. Take a train to Srinagar railway station, which is connected to several major cities. B. Once in Srinagar, follow the same steps as the air travel option to reach Baramulla, and then proceed towards Tulail Valley via road and trekking.
C. By Road: For those who enjoy scenic road trips, traveling by road to Tulal Valley offers an unparalleled experience. The road network in the Kashmir region is well-developed, but keep in mind that weather conditions, especially in winter, can affect travel. The road journey from Srinagar to Baramulla is well-maintained, but once you reach Baramulla, the roads to Tulail Valley can be rough and require a vehicle suited for off-roading.
Steps: A. From Srinagar, you can take a bus or hire a taxi to reach Baramulla. The distance is about 50 kilometers, and the drive takes around two hours. B. From Baramulla, you will need to hire a local vehicle or arrange for a jeep that can take you closer to the base of the valley. Local transport options, such as shared taxis, may be available. C. The final stretch to Tulail Valley could require a trek, especially if the roads are not passable or if the valley is situated in a remote, high-altitude location.
Trekking to Tulal Valley For adventure enthusiasts, the trek to Tulail Valley is one of the highlights of the journey. While some roads may take you close to the valley, reaching the core of Tulail Valley requires a moderate-level trek through beautiful landscapes.
Preparations for Trekking: A. Fitness Level: The trek to Tulal Valley involves walking through rough terrains, dense forests, and uphill routes. It’s important to be in good physical condition before undertaking this trek.
B. Guide and Permits: Hiring a local guide is highly recommended. Not only will the guide help you navigate the trails safely, but they will also provide insights into the local culture and natural surroundings. Depending on the region, trekking permits may be required, so it’s important to check with local authorities or a travel agency for necessary documentation.
C. Equipment: Ensure you are equipped with proper trekking gear, including sturdy shoes, a waterproof jacket, a hat, a first-aid kit, a water bottle, and snacks. The weather in the Kashmir region can be unpredictable, so it's important to be prepared for rain or cold temperatures.
D. Traveling in a Group: Traveling with a group can make the journey more enjoyable and safer. Group trekking tours are available through travel agencies, and this can be a good option for those who are not experienced trekkers.
Best Time to Visit Tulail Valley A. The best time to visit Tulail Valley depends on the kind of experience you want:
B. Summer (April to June): This is the most popular time for trekking, with pleasant weather and clear skies. The valley is lush and green, and the trekking routes are accessible.
C. Autumn (September to November): Autumn offers mild temperatures, and the valley’s foliage turns golden and red, creating a picturesque landscape. This is another excellent time for trekking.
D. Winter (December to February): Winter is the most challenging time to visit Tulail Valley. The temperature can drop significantly, and heavy snow may make trekking difficult. However, winter also offers a unique, serene beauty, with snow-covered peaks and frozen landscapes, making it ideal for those seeking solitude and snow trekking.
Things to Keep in Mind A. Weather Conditions: The weather in the Kashmir region can change rapidly, so it’s essential to be prepared for varying conditions. Carry waterproof clothing, sun protection, and extra layers to keep warm.
B. Safety Precautions: Always inform someone about your travel plans and itinerary. Avoid traveling alone, especially in remote areas. Stick to established trekking routes, and carry a map or GPS device for navigation.
C. Cultural Sensitivity: Tulail Valley is located in a culturally rich area, so it’s essential to respect local customs and traditions. Always seek permission before taking photographs of locals or their property.
D. Acclimatization: Since Tulail Valley is situated at a higher altitude, it’s advisable to spend a night in Baramulla to acclimatize before embarking on the trek.
Conclusion Reaching Tulail Valley is an adventure in itself, requiring careful planning and preparation. Whether you’re flying in from a distant city or taking a road trip through the picturesque landscapes of Jammu and Kashmir, the journey to Tulail Valley will undoubtedly be an unforgettable experience.
The combination of natural beauty, cultural richness, and the thrill of trekking makes Tulail Valley a destination that should be on the bucket list of every traveler seeking a connection with nature.
With its unspoiled charm and tranquility, Tulail Valley offers a unique opportunity to experience the Kashmir Valley's natural wonders in their purest form. Prepare well, stay safe, and enjoy the mesmerizing journey to one of the region's most beautiful, hidden corners.

Transforming Lives: The Tuk-Tuk Challenge 2024 in Azad Kashmir
In September 2024, 30 determined volunteers embarked on Muslim Charity’s Tuk-Tuk Challenge, an eight-day adventure through the stunning valleys and winding roads of Azad Kashmir. More than just a thrilling journey, this annual event was an opportunity to change lives.
Volunteers raised funds to provide 20 vulnerable families with rickshaws, offering them a chance to earn a living and build a brighter future. From climbing steep hills to navigating the quirks of rickshaw driving, the challenge tested participants’ limits while uniting them in a shared mission of compassion and impact.
Driving Through the Beauty of Kashmir
The challenge began with volunteers stepping into brand new tuk-tuks, eager to take on the rugged terrain of Kashmir. The route led them through some of the region’s most scenic landscapes, with snow-capped peaks lush green valleys and sparkling rivers at every turn.
Each day included stops at Muslim Charity’s life-changing projects. Volunteers visited newly refurbished schools, upgraded hospitals and even witnessed the launch of a clean water initiative funded by our generous supporters at the Al Madina Mosque Barking in London. These visits offered a powerful reminder of the impact donors and volunteers have on improving the lives of local communities.
For many participants, this was their first time experiencing the raw beauty of Azad Kashmir and the journey didn’t disappoint. The highlight for many was climbing Ganga Choti, the highest peak in the region. Reaching the summit brought a sense of achievement and left everyone in awe of the view.
An Impactful Mission
The main goal of the Tuk-Tuk Challenge was to provide families with rickshaws, giving them the means to earn a stable income. Each family was carefully chosen through Muslim Charity’s detailed selection process to ensure the rickshaws would have the greatest impact.
On the final day of the challenge, volunteers met the beneficiary families and handed over the rickshaws. This emotional ceremony was a powerful reminder of the purpose behind the adventure.
One family shared how the rickshaw would transform their lives. The father, who previously struggled to make ends meet by renting a rickshaw, explained how owning his own would allow him to save more, provide for his family and invest in his children’s education.
“This rickshaw means the world to us,” he said. “It’s a chance for a better life.”
For the volunteers, these moments of connection were the most rewarding part of the journey.
Teamwork and Laughter Along the Way
The 30 participants were divided into teams with creative names like Rickshaw Ranis, Irn Vruuum and Brave Dils. Although many started as strangers, the group quickly bonded over shared challenges and triumphs.
Driving tuk-tuks through steep and twisting roads wasn’t easy and neither were the early morning starts. But the teams supported each other every step of the way, offering encouragement, sharing laughs and celebrating every small victory together.
By the end of the trip, the bonds they had formed were as meaningful as the impact they had made.
A Journey to Remember
The Tuk-Tuk Challenge wasn’t just about the driving or the destinations. It was about the people, the volunteers who gave their time and energy, the families who received life-changing rickshaws and the communities who welcomed them along the way.
Every day of the challenge brought something new, from breath-taking views to moments of reflection. For many, the trip was also a chance to grow personally, stepping out of their comfort zones and doing something they never thought they could.
The closing ceremony was an emotional highlight. Seeing the joy and hope in the eyes of the beneficiaries made all the effort worthwhile. It wasn’t just about handing over the rickshaws, it was about giving these families the tools they needed to build a better future.
Looking Ahead
The Tuk-Tuk Challenge 2024 showed the power of compassion, teamwork and determination. It was an adventure that left participants with lasting memories and made a real difference in the lives of those who need it most.
Muslim Charity is already planning the next Tuk-Tuk Challenge and it promises to be just as inspiring. If you’re looking for an opportunity to combine adventure with impact, this is your chance to be part of something truly special.
