Atta-ur-Rahman
Atta-ur-Rahman, FRS, D.Phil., TI, SI HI, NI, is a leading scientist and scholar in the field of organic chemistry from Pakistan, especially renowned for his research in the various areas relating to natural product chemistry. With over 850 publications in the field of his expertise, he is also credited for reviving the higher education and research practices in Pakistan. 
Education
Atta-ur-Rahman has had a prominent record in Cambridge Overseas School Certificate in 1958, and 'A' Levels in 1960 from the Karachi Grammar School. Academic career
Atta ur Rahman started his career in 1964 as a Lecturer at University of Karachi. He remained Fellow at Kings College, Cambridge between 1969 to 1973, and is presently Honorary Life Fellow at Kings College, University of Cambridge, UK. In 1977, he became Co-Director of Husein Ebrahim Jamal Research Institute of Chemistry at University of Karachi to become Director in 1990. He has over 864 international publications in several fields of organic chemistry including 670 research publications, 20 patents, 115 books and 59 chapters in books published by major U.S. and European presses. Seventy sıx students have completed their Ph.D. degrees under his supervision.
HAARP Research
In 2010 Atta ur-Rahman, published his views that the United States government was financing a science research project in Alaska which could affect weather. This sparked off a public debate with other scientists, when Pervez Hoodbhoy lamented the decline of academic standards in Pakistan. The views of Pervez Hoodbhoy have been strongly refuted by neutral international authorities, Fred Hayward (US consultant to USAID), Wolfgang Voelter (Tübingen University) and Michael Rode (Innsbruck University, Chairman of UN Commission on Science, Technology & Development) [9] who have praised the remarkable transformation of the higher education sector in Pakistan under the leadership of Atta-ur-Rahman. A number of major international prizes and awards have also been won by Atta-ur-Rahman in recognition of these contributions Prof. Atta-ur-Rahman has subsequently clarified that he did not state that HAARP could cause earthquakes but he did refer to the European Union resolution that condemned the US funded research on HAARP which could potentially alter weather patterns and on which 12 US patents had been obtained.

Prof Rahman is the most decorated scientist of Pakistan having won four civil awards by successive governments including the highest national Civil Award of Nishan-i-Imtiaz.Prof. Rahman was elected as Fellow of Royal Society (London) in July 2006 thereby becoming one of the 4 scientists from the Muslim world to have ever won this honor in the last 350 years when the Royal Society was established, and the only scıentıst to be so recognısed for researches carrıed out wıthın a Islamıc country. He is also the only scientist from the Muslim world to have been conferred the UNESCO Science Prize in 1999.
He has been conferred honorary doctorate degrees by many universities including the degree of Doctor of Science (Sc.D.) by the Cambridge University (UK) (1987) and an Honorary degree of Doctor of Education by Coventry University UK in November 2007. He was elected Honorary Life Fellow of Kings College, Cambridge University, UK in 2007. Prof. Atta-ur-Rahman was conferred the TWAS Prize for Institution Building in Durban, South Africa in October 2009 in recognition of his contributions for bringing about revolutionary changes in the higher education sector in Pakistan.He was awarded the Engro Excellence Award in Science & Technology 2011 with a prize of Rs. 5 million (US $ 59,000) for meritorious contributions. He then proceeded to use the money in addition to funds from his private finances to establish a research center on Genomics in Karachi University named after his father Jamil-ur-Rahman, and to start a TWAS Prize in Chemistry for deserving young researchers from developing countries that has been instituted by TWAS Academy of Science for Developing World, Trieste, Italy. 
He is President of Network of Academies of Sciences of Islamic Countries (NASIC) and the Vice-President (Central & South Asia) of the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World (TWAS) Council, and Foreign Fellow of Korean Academy of Sciences. Prof. Atta-ur-Rahman was the President of the Pakistan Academy of Sciences (2003–06), and was again elected President of Pakistan Academy of Sciences in January 2011.
He was the Federal Minister for Science and Technology (14 March 2000 – 20 November 2002), Federal Minister of Education (2002) and Chairman of the Higher Education Commission with the status of a Federal Minister from 2002-2008. The Austrian government also honoured him with its highest civil award ("Das Große Goldene Ehrenzeichen am Bande", 2007) in recognition of his eminent contributions.
Prof. Atta-ur-Rahman was the Coordinator General of COMSTECH, an OIC Ministerial Committee comprising the 57 Ministers of Science & Technology from 57 OIC member countries during 1996-2012. He is also the Patron of International Centre of Chemical and Biological Sciences (which comprises a number of institutes, including the Hussain Ebrahim Jamal Research Institute of Chemistry and the Dr. Panjwani Center of Molecular Medicine and Drug Development) at Karachi University. 
In recognition of the eminent contributions of Prof. Atta-ur-Rahman, a number of institutions have been named after him within and outside Paksitan. Chishty Mujahid
Chishty Mujahid, an articulate and authoritative cricket commentator, is a law graduate from Cambridge University. His love for the game began early in his childhood when he watched the 1952 Pakistani Team under Abdul Hafeez Kardar play at New Delhi and Lucknow. A frequent visitor to tests in England during his student days in the late 1960s, he became a commentator renowned for being both articulate and knowledgeable description and analysis of the game. With Radio Pakistan and Pakistan TV and Hum.Fm he has toured Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, India, Australia, South Africa, Zimbabwe, England, New Zealand and Sharjah. He has worked in high profile jobs in various national and International companies. Chishty Mujahid is a well-known figure in Pakistani cricket journalism and broadcasting. Born in 1944 in New Delhi, British India, he was educated at Karachi Grammar School, National College Karachi, Selwyn College Cambridge (Law Tripos 1966) and the Middle Temple London. He played cricket at school, college and club levels as a middle order batsman, a right arm leg break and googly bowler and an agile and reliable fielder. He started Radio commentaries in 1967 and TV commentaries on Pakistan Television (PTV) in 1970. Mujahid has also commentated for and appeared on Doordarshan - India, Rupavahini, MTV & TNL - Sri Lanka, Worldtel, TWI, Sony, South African Broadcasting Corp, CricInfo, BBC Urdu, Hum FM (UAE), Yes FM, Sri Lanka. He has covered, and written on cricket for newspapers such as the Dawn, Frontier Post, Morning News, The News (all Pakistani English Dailies) for the World of Cricket and The Cricketer Magazine (Pakistan), and the Khaleej Times (UAE). Mujahid wrote the commentary for a pictorial cricket biography of Imran Khan - "An Eye on Imran". He was nominated for the Best Sports Commentator award for PTV three years in a row 1985, 1986 and 1987 winning the Award in 1986. He also won the PBC (Radio Pakistan) best cricket commentator award for 1999 and the PBC Excellence Award 2001. He was conferred the President’s Award for Pride of Performance in the Honours List of 14 August, 2003.

First impressions matter, and curiosity shows you care.
Shaykh Abdallah often has people from all over the world coming up to him after his lessons to give salaams. One thing I've noticed is he always finds a way to praise the place the person is from. For example, once he was introduced to three gentlemen from Iraq and he said to them, "All of Arabic grammar is Iraqi, you have the Basra School, the Kufa school, and the Baghdad school...it's all Iraqi!"
I've noticed from my own experience as well that knowing even the basic geography of the place others call home is a great way to engender feelings of mutual respect and care. Some people I meet are astonished that I know that Islamabad is in the north and Karachi in the south. Other easy-ins are with food. I can always bring a smile to a Moroccan's face when I recall my first Ramadan eating Refissa at iftar. Somali ginger-tea is dope. Mansaf is challenging to finish. Nasi Lamak might be the best breakfast in the world. The list goes on.
Of course, one has to be sure they're not coming across as a know-it all or as someone who thinks they've got another place figured out. An illustration of this would people people who approach me in a rather presumptuous manner about Saudi Arabia, a place I've called home for the last 4 years, and seem to only want to use my proximity to confirm the narratives they have about the place.
That's really the crux of the issue; we deal with war, competing ideologies, and politics day in and day out, and while I'm the last one to advocate abandoning those engagements, sometimes you need to come down to earth and connect with the Ummah on the humble level of immediate experience: food, family, and place.
Allah said in Surah al-Hujuraat that He created us in such diversity in order that we may know one another. Taking the time to find out something about other unfamiliar places in the Ummah and saying positive things about those places can be a useful tool for base-level community building.

Shehrbano "Sherry" Rehman, is a Pakistani politician, political journalist and diplomat.
Rehman was appointed the Pakistan's Ambassador to the US on November 23, 2011 succeeding Husain Haqqani. Previously, she was the Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting from March 2008 until March 2009.
Biography
Born in Karachi, to a prominent Sindhi family, Rehman's father, was a lawyer and educator. Her mother served as vice president of the State Bank of Pakistan—the first woman to hold the post.
She attended Karachi Grammar School, Smith College and the University of Sussex where she studied art history and political science. Rehman worked as a professional journalist for twenty years, writing for national and international newspapers and news magazines. She was editor-in-chief of Pakistan's leading news magazine, The Herald, for ten years and served as a member of the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) from 1988 to 1998. She also anchored a television show on current affairs in 1999. 
Rehman was the first Pakistani to be recognised with an award for independent journalism by the British House of Lords in its Muslim World Awards Ceremony 2002.
She is married to banker Nadeem Hussain, who is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Tameer Microfinance Bank. She was previously married to Ehsan Malik, who is currently the Chief Executive Office of Unilever Pakistan.
Political career
Rehman is a member of the Pakistan People's Party Parliamentarians (PPPP). 
She served as an Member of the National Assembly (MNA) from 2002 to 2007, where she acted as Central Information Secretary. During this time, she was also President of Policy Planning for the PPPP and served on the party's Foreign Relations Committee. 
In March 2008, Rehman was re-appointed by declaration as MNA for Sindh province to the reserved MNA seat for women. Prime Minister Yusuf Gilani appointed her Minister for Information and Broadcasting, and on 31 March 2008 she was sworn in by President Pervez Musharraf. 
During her tenure in parliament, Rehman authored all five PPP bills tabled in the National Assembly: the Women Empowerment Bill, Anti-Honor Killings Bill, Domestic Violence Prevention Bill, Affirmative Action Bill and Hudood Repeal Bill. She also moved two bills concerning the media: the Freedom of Information Bill and the Press Act, which prevents working journalists from being arrested under the 1999 Press Ordinance. 
In civil society, Rehman is the Chair of the Lady Dufferin Foundation Trust, reportedly the largest non-profit provider of women and children's subsidised healthcare in the province of Sindh. 
In January 2009, a report of the International Republican Institute referred to her as "Democracy's Hero" as a result of her close association with former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto's campaign for democratic rule in Pakistan.  The reference, picked up by several Pakistani media outlets, received mixed coverage. In the same month, Rehman was named among the "100 Most Influential Asians" by UAE magazine Ahlan. 
Rehman resigned her post as Information Minister on 14 March 2009, due to differences of opinion with the President Asif Ali Zardari on imposing restrictions on the media. 
In 2013, Rehman was accused of commiting "blasphemy, a crime that carries the death penalty" in Pakistan, "in connection with a 2010 TV talk show." She was accused by Muhammad Faheem Gill, who went to the Pakistan "Supreme Court with his complaint after police refused to register it. The court ordered police in the central Pakistani city of Multan to investigate." 
Diplomatic work
On 23 November 2011, she was named Pakistan's ambassador to United States following the resignation of Hussain Haqqani, who was asked to resign by Prime Minister Gilani in the wake of the "Memogate" scandal.

Rehman's latest book The Kashmiri Shawl: From Jamawar to Paisley, co-authored with Naheed Jafri, was published in 2006 by Mapin Publishing India and Antique Collectors Club UK. The book was nominated for The R.L Shep Ethnic Textiles Book Award for 2006 in the US.

Kot Addu (Urdu کوٹ ادو ) is a city and tehsil in the Muzaffargarh District of the southern part of the Punjab province of Pakistan. This city is subdivided into 30 Union Councils[1] and has a population of over 104 thousand, making it the 67th largest city in Pakistan.[2] It is located just east of the Indus River, about 866 km (538 mi) from Karachi, 600 km (370 mi) from Islamabad, 100 km from Multan, 80 km from D.G.Khan, 60 km (37 mi) from Muzaffargarh, 60 km from Layyah, and 16 km (9.9 mi) from Taunsa Barrage. Kot Addu City attracts a large number of tourists every year, due to the Indus river and public gardens among other things. The city is served by Kot Addu Junction railway station.The Zip code of Kot Addu is 34050.It is the 69th largest city of Pakistan according to the 2017 census.
Geography and climate
Kot Addu is located almost exactly at the geographical center of Pakistan. The closest major city is Multan. The area around the city is a flat alluvial plain and is ideal for agriculture, with many citrus and mango farms. There are also canals that cut across the Muzaffargarh District, providing water to farms. During the monsoon season, the land close to the Taunsa Barrage is usually flooded.
Kot Addu has an arid climate with very hot summers and mild winters. The city has experienced some of the most extreme weather in Pakistan. The highest recorded temperature was approximately 51 °C (129 °F), and the lowest recorded temperature was approximately −1 °C (30 °F). The average rainfall is roughly 127 millimeters (5.0 inches). Dust storms are a common occurrence within the city.
Education
Like other major cities in Punjab, Kot Addu features a rich educational landscape. In the last few years, the city has observed a surge in the number of educational institutions. Colleges include private commerce and science colleges, schools, academies like Punjab Inter Science Academy, and a cadet college. Government degrees are provided for both men and women. Several colleges are affiliated with the Bahuddin Zakrya University, B.Z.U. Multan Pakistan, and Punjab University Lahore Pakistan. The names of some private institutions are, Kot Addu School of Economics and Management Sciences (Mr. Fiaz Hussain Malik, director), Punjab Higher Secondary School, Bismillah. Inter Science Academy, Punjab Group of Colleges, My School System, Dar-E-Arqam School, Oxford Grammar School, Professor Academy etc. A Government Technical College is also under construction.
Taunsa Barrage
Taunsa Barrage is a barrage on the River Indus. It is situated 20 kilometres (12 mi) southeast of Taunsa Sharif and 16 kilometres (9.9 mi) from Kot Addu. This barrage controls water flow in the River Indus for irrigation and flood control purposes. This barrage serves 2.351 million acres (951,400 hectares) besides diverting flows from Indus River to the Chenab River through Taunsa Panjnad (TP) Link Canal. The barrage also serves as an arterial road bridge, a railway bridge, and crossing for gas and oil pipelines, telephone line and extra high voltage (EHV) transmission lines.[6] In 2011, the rehabilitation of the Taunsa Barrage was blamed for devastation of the Muzaffargarh district during the 2010 Pakistan floods.[7] Critics blamed the rehabilitation of the barrage, alleging that it failed to raise its height and strengthen protective embankments, used dysfunctional computer control system of the hoist gates and ignored hill-torrent management.
Industry
Kot Addu is a prominent commercial and industrial city in the Punjab province. It is connected by road and rail with Lahore, Karachi, Multan, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Quetta, and Faisalabad; and also by air from Multan Airport to all Pakistani airports.
Agriculture
Kot Addu is an important agricultural area. The total area of Tehsil Kot Addu is 877,989 acres (355,310 ha), of which 4,24,521 acres are under cultivation. Main crops of the area include corn, cotton, rice, sugarcane, tobacco, wheat, and vegetables. Bajra, moong, mash, masoor, and oil seeds (such as mustard and sunflower seeds) are also grown in the district.
Mangoes, citrus, guavas, and pomegranates are Kot Addu’s most important fruit crops. Minor fruit crops include dates, jaman, pears, falsa and bananas are also grown.
One other local fruit is called a bare (Berry) . It is one of the main fruits grown in this region. Due to flooding, the crops are now rare, especially cotton and wheat products affected by this flooding. So, now a majority of the agricultural lands are covered by sugarcane.
