Kanika Kapoor is the first Bollywood celebrity to have tested positive with the novel Coronavirus. The singer shared the details of it on social media and stirred a controversy too. Reports suggested that the ‘Baby Doll’ singer had travelled from London to Mumbai and then Lucknow, where she attended a party. From where it began to her party pictures and her father’s contrasting statement – here’s all you need to know about Kanika Kapoor:

Kanika confirms that she has tested positive for Covid-19 Kanika posted about her test on Instagram, “For the past 4 days I have had signs of flu, I got myself tested and it came positive for Covid-19. My family and I are in complete quarantine now and following medical advice on how to move forward. Contact mapping of people I have been in touch with is underway aswell. At this stage I would like to urge you all to practice self isolation and get tested if you have the signs. I am feeling ok, like a normal flu and a mild fever, however we need to be sensible citizens at this time and think of all around us. We can get through this without panic only if we listen to the experts and our local, state and central government directives. Wishing everyone good health. Jai Hind !Take care.”

Vasundhara Raje takes precaution Soon after Kanika Kapoor shared about her situation, former Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje revealed that she was present at the same party attended by the singer. As a precaution she immediately self-quarantined. “While in Lucknow, I attended a dinner with my son Dushyant & his in-laws. Kanika, who has unfortunately tested positive for #Covid19 was also a guest. As a matter of abundant caution, my son & I have immediately self-quarantined and we’re taking all necessary precautions,” Vasundhara Raje had shared on Twitter.

Kanika’s father’s statement Kanika’s father had told ETimes, “She was normal when she came to Lucknow and had no signs of any illness. In fact, she attended three-four social gathering while she was here. We also visited Kanpur for a day where her nana-nani live. Then we were busy shifting our home. It was only two days ago that Kanika had slight fever, a running nose and cough, so we consulted our family doctor who suggested that we send her samples for testing for COVID-19. So we called up the CMO and requested him for the tests which unfortunately came out positive for Kanika. But we have been in isolation since the past three days and have confined ourselves in our home. The health department is sending a team to collect my wife and my samples too. Our whole family will be tested now.”

Contrasting statements from Kanika and her father While speaking to a news portal, Kanika’s father Rajiv Kapoor stated that the singer had attended three parties after arriving and may have come in contact with around 350-400 people at that time. However, in her statement to the news portal the singer said that she had attended a small get together on March 13 and that he father can’t say that she was at three parties. The ‘Baby Doll’ singer further added that she tried not to contaminate others and was wearing gloves all of past week.

Parts of Lucknow shut down Soon after Kanika Kapoor tested positive for COVID-19, the Lucknow administration shut down a large part of the trans-Gomti area where she was staying. According to IANS, the district administration ordered shutdown of all shops and commercial establishments except medicine shops, gas agencies, hospitals and pharmacists in Mahanagar, Khurram Nagar, Tedhi Pulia, Abrar Nagar and along the Kukrail nullah, Rahim Nagar and Kapoorthala. All restaurants were also closed as a precautionary measure. The report also stated that residents living in the building where Kanika Kapoor was staying have started leaving their apartments.

The Lucknow administration has shut down a large part of the trans-Gomti area in the Uttar Pradesh capital where Bollywood singer Kanika Kapoor, who has tested positive for COVID-19, was staying.

The VIPS who attended a high-profile party, including Kapoor and UP health minister Jai Pratap Singh, have also self-quarantined themselves.

In an order issued on Friday evening, the district administration has ordered a shutdown of all shops and commercial establishments except medicine shops, gas agencies, hospitals and pharmacists in the area including Mahanagar, Khurram Nagar, Tedhi Pulia, Abrar Nagar and along the Kukrail nullah, Rahim Nagar and Kapoorthala. All restaurants have also been closed as a precautionary measure.

Meanwhile, a number of residents living in the building where Kanika Kapoor was staying have started leaving their apartments.

Kanika Kapoor has, meanwhile, been shifted to the isolation ward in the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences.

UP health minister Jai Pratap Singh, who attended the party, said that the party was actually a “family affair”.

“I do not recognise Kanika Kapoor though some guests told me that there was a Bollywood singer. I interacted with people in Lucknow who are known to me,” he said on the phone.

He said that he himself had informed the medical officials about his presence at the party.

Meanwhile, Kanika Kapoor issued a statement on social media where she said that she had come from London about 10 days ago and had undergone all tests which were negative.

Kanika, incidentally, had also attended a Holi party in her building. She had also visited her uncle Vipul Tandon’s house in Kanpur on March 13 and 14.

Medical officials have sought more information from Kanika and she has revealed that she visited a skin clinic in Lucknow on March 15.

The singer also attended another party at Hotel Taj on March 16 and also one on March 17 in her building. She also visited the home of a friend in Gulistan Colony.

The health minister said, “On the basis of information given by the singer, the officials are contacting and checking all those people whom she interacted with. All of them will have to follow the defined protocols.”

Media reports claim that BJP MP Dushyant Singh, was at the party that Kanika attended the Lok Sabha on Thursday, prompting TMC MP Derek O’Brien to ask for the ongoing Parliament session to be deferred.

O’Brien, who was sitting with Dushyant in the Lok Sabha, claimed that many members of Parliament were “at risk”.

BJP MP Varun Gandhi has also placed himself under quarantine as he was seated near Dushyant in the Lok Sabha.
