Kangana Ranaut calls out celebs for supporting Black Lives Matter while endorsing fairness products: ‘How dare they’
Actor Kangana Ranaut has lashed out at the ‘hypocrisy’ of Bollywood celebrities once again. After Abhay Deol, Kangana has also slammed celebrities for supporting the Black Lives Matter movement, but also endorsing fairness products in India.

Re: Bollywood celebs' hypocrisy
For clarification, the "fairness cream" industry is HUGE here, with creams and 'treatment" that claim to "lighten your skin tone". Horrible and problematic. In today's climate, they also hide behind fancy words like "dark spot treatment" and "increasing brightness" which basically mean fairness
Why is it bad?
Well, it stems from the colonial era of how lighter skin (like that of the oppressor) is 'better'. This is extremely hurtful because, newsflash, brown skin is fucking beautiful and your skin tone does not define you. Companies like Garnier have marketed creams like this, and Fair and Lovely is infamous for its "fairness technology".
Now, they use celebs to target the audience, and nearly everyone has done one of these sponsorships including SRK, Priyanka Chopra, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Yami Gautam, Sara Ali Khan, Disha Patani, to name a few. Certain celebrities have spoken against these ads and companies like Abhay Deol and Kangana Ranaut.
Now, the BLM movement is popularising in India as well, with the actors mentioned above posting stories and images supporting it. This shows their hypocrisy, since most of them are/were very comfortable taking money from these companies to promote these creams that target the self esteem of young people.
None of these celebs have ever apologised for promoting these brands, in the past or even now. In fact, some of them continue to promote them to this day.
Insanely hypocritical and tone deaf.

Hey, Did u saw Kangana Ranaut's recent interview on bbc?
i just did! thank you for letting me know. she echoes a lot of the opinions that i've been seeing over the past week... the "selective compassion" (god, i love that she used that word) that ppl in india show, the need to be trendy, the commercialization of bollywood celebs supporting the blm movement.... really really good points. here's the video if anyone wants to watch it.
