If Magical Girls was a job
A simple question that makes an entire series and world build is one of my favorite kind of stories. That's what "Kabushiki Gaisha Magi Lumiere" (Magilumiere co. Ltd.) is mostly about.
Written by Sekka Iwata and illustrated by Yu Aoki, it's a "what if" of modern day society that magical girls became an actual world renown career. Kai, which are your monsters or spirits that appeared out of nowhere. Became a menace to society, hence the creation of magical girls.
The story follows a college graduate Kana Sakuragi, who's been struggling to find herself a job. Although she has a great talent for memorizing things she studied or research for herself, she couldn't put it her own words or bring out into practice. Till one job interview she meets magical girl Hitomi koshigaya on the job. With her help taking out a Kai, Koshigaya takes her in to her startup company with a president with a huge craze about magical girls.
The story brings up how there are other companies that specialize in different magical girl fields, departments, and of course extermination of kais. It brings in tools, and how they're used, and the history of them. They bring up transformations and how some differ from each other. But most importantly, how some companies just see the money aspect of it all.
I'm only about 12 chapters in, but I like some of the gags, the world building, and of course how some of the outfits are designed. If you like slice of life, action, and of course magical girls. This is a good look up, I hope it gets a chance to get animated honestly.

Magilumiere Co. Ltd.
(Anime)
Techbro Magical Girls by Sekka Iwata, Yu Aoki
Era: 2020s
Rating: C
Plot: IN A WORLD where Japan has a problem with strange creatures called Kaii, being a magical girl is a well paid and respected career. Kana Sakuragi, fresh out of college and finding it difficult to get a job by chance runs into a big kaii problem during a job interview, and thanks to her photographic memory helps Hitomi Koshigaya, one such magical girl, to deal with it. As it happens, Magilumiere, the start-up company Hitomi works at, is looking to add a second magical girl to their roster.
Length: 12 episodes (second season confirmed)
Thoughts: Well, I said on the mid-season recap it was going to be tough arranging my thoughts on this and since then nothing changed my mind. Do I rate it for what it is and ignore my most uncharitable view this is about doing pest control in magical girl cosplay at a tech company? Starting with the good, it's quite a looker, and seeing magical girls who don't need to be thinking about schoolwork is admittedly fresh; overall the characters are interesting, and it does convey the sense each of the featured companies does something different - one thing I won't accuse the show of is having poor world building, in that aspect it is very well crafted and well imagined.
On the other hand, I really don't like the path the premise took. The tech company angle makes it feel more like assembling a RPG party or what if Harold Ramis and Dan Aykroyd had been heavily into Majokko Megu-chan while writing Ghostbusters for some bizarre reason. There were ways better of exploring the concept of professional magical girls without doing tech lanyards and a guy pushing OTA updates. There was a point I was really considering if I was really being too unkind with my very uncharitable views, and then tech expo show dropped. No, I was right, that was a mix of CES for pest control professionals who must work while cosplaying.
So, what should I do? Honestly, I feel this one just wasn't for me (or anyone tired of the tech industry) and should have dropped after the first couple of episodes. For anyone intrigued by the concept of mixing up tech startups and magical girls, it might just we'll be your next favourite show. My whole deal is "you should check out shows if my ramblings intrigue you", not "you should avoid anything I don't particularly like", so, you know. It's getting a second season to expand on the world it created, which is always great news in the current state of the industry, but very likely this might be it for me.
Recommended to: looking for a radically different approach to magical girls?
Plus:
I do like the characters, and the animation generally does it's job without a hitch.
Regardless of how I feel about the premise, it is a well crafted world.
Minus:
Once again, and this is pretty much on me, I wasn't sold on the concept.

I read chapters 61-90 of Magilumiere Co. Ltd. by Sekka Iwata and Yu Aoki
The new mutations are escalating, and I'm surprised that none of the villains have been put in jail yet.
I like Kana's post timeskip design and transformation. Very cool!
People focusing on profits are always causing problems 😭.
I think it's interesting how the story structure has shifted a bit to be more subterfuge.
I'm looking forward to reading more.
I read the first 30 chapters of Magilumiere Co. Ltd. by Sekka Iwata and Yu Aoki.
The magical girls in this story are like first responders, but they are part of a corporate company. The clash between these two elements has some interesting conflicts with the traditional image of a magical girl.
The main themes I've noticed so far are idealism vs efficiency, as well as broad usage vs obscure features.
The magic system has elements of software development and user experience that interested me, and had many interesting points of view.
I really like toolbox style characters, so the custom broom was really cool. I look forward to what features it has.
I'll write more once I've read more.
