Overview of Cataract Surgery
Cataracts, areas of cloudiness in the lens of your eye, can gradually worsen your vision. The lens, normally clear, focuses light rays entering your eye to create a clear image. But a cataract acts like a foggy windshield, blurring vision and making colors appear faded. Cataract surgery is a safe and effective outpatient procedure to remove the clouded lens and replace it with an artificial lens called an intraocular lens (IOL). This surgery can improve your vision.
You may not need surgery right away if your cataract is small and doesn't significantly impact your daily activities. However, surgery becomes necessary when cataracts worsen, causing symptoms like blurred or double vision, difficulty seeing clearly at night, faded colors, and increased light sensitivity. These symptoms can affect your ability to read, work on a computer, or perform other tasks requiring clear vision, like driving. In some cases, surgery might be recommended even if your vision isn't severely affected. An example of such a case is to allow your doctor to examine the back of your eye for other conditions like diabetic retinopathy.
Before surgery, your doctor will measure your eye using ultrasound. This will help determine the appropriate IOL power for your eye. There are various IOL options available, each with its advantages and considerations. You and your doctor will discuss which type best suits your needs. Fixed-focus monofocal IOLs improve distance vision but require reading glasses for close-up tasks. Accommodating-focus monofocal IOLs may adjust to allow near or far vision, potentially reducing reliance on glasses. Multifocal IOLs offer correction for near, midrange, and far distances, similar to bifocal or progressive lenses.
Your doctor will gather information about your medical history prior to the surgery. You might need to stop certain medications that could increase bleeding risk during surgery. Additionally, your doctor could prepare you for surgery by prescribing antibiotic eye drops to limit the risk of surgical infection.
Surgeons perform cataract surgery as an outpatient procedure. It typically takes about an hour. The first step is numbing the target area using eye drops. You may also receive medication to help you relax during the surgery. Afterwards, the surgeon removes the cataracts by using one of two methods. Phacoemulsification entails making a tiny incision in the cornea then an ultrasound probe breaks up the cataract for removal through suction. Alternatively, the surgeon could resort to extracapsular cataract extraction. Using this method, the surgeon will make a larger incision to remove the lens directly. This method is less common today due to the smaller incision required for phacoemulsification.
Once the cataract is removed, the surgeon inserts an artificial lens into the empty lens capsule. Depending on the technique used, the surgeon can make some stitches to close the incision, though some techniques use self-sealing incisions.
Following surgery, you can expect your vision to improve within a few days, but it usually takes several weeks for your vision to stabilize fully. It might be blurry initially as your eye heals. To prevent infection and promote healing, you'll likely use prescribed eye drops. Your doctor may also recommend wearing an eye patch or shield for a few days post-surgery.
During the post-operative period, it's normal to experience mild itching and discomfort. You can discuss your recovery with your doctor during follow-up appointments. Most people still need glasses for some activities after surgery. Your doctor will determine when your eyes are healed enough for a new eyeglass prescription.

Pakistan's Misbah-ul-Haq
Misbah as a captain has been more celebrated than Misbah as a batsman. He was Pakistan's most successful Test skipper with 26 wins under his name. However, his contributions with the bat too were truly extraordinary at times. From equalling the record for the fastest Test ton, taking the fewest balls to a fifty in the process, to becoming one of the oldest batsmen to score a Test hundred – his performances form a major part of Pakistan's cricket history.
Tests
101* v Australia, Abu Dhabi, 2014: Perhaps, the most un-Misbah like innings ever. Traditionally known for his cautious and restrained batting approach, Misbah defied the norm to produce one of the finest batting displays as he slammed the then fastest Test hundred – equalling Viv Richards' record – in just 56 balls. Already building on Pakistan's solid score of 332/3, Misbah took the Australia bowlers on, taking his team past the 500-mark. His performance ensured Pakistan also achieved their then-largest victory over Australia, by 356 runs.
114 v England, Lord's, 2016: At 42, Misbah became the oldest captain to score a century in his first Test appearance in England. His was the only centurion in Pakistan's first-innings, taking their total to 339. He came to bat when the visitors were struggling at 77/3 and proceeded to hit his 10th Test ton, pairing with Younis Khan and Asad Shafiq in the middle order. He celebrated the knock by removing his helmet, getting down on the ground and performing a flurry of push-ups. Misbah's knock coupled with excellent bowling from Yasir Shah gave Pakistan a famous 75-run win over the hosts.
82 v India, Delhi, 2007: Although the slow 82-run knock came in a losing cause, his performance went a long way in helping Pak put up a strong fight. Electing to bat first, the visitors had lost half of their side before reaching the 100-run mark. Misbah then shouldered the burden with a cautious half-century even as wickets fell at the other end. The next best score after him was Kamran Akmal's 30, but Misbah dropped anchor and continued to grind. He added 87 with Akmal for the ninth wicket and was the penultimate wicket to fall, helping the visitors to a modest 231. He followed that up with a fighting 45 in the second innings but a low target meant that India achieved a six-wicket victory on the final day.
161* v India, Kolkata, 2007: After losing the first Test of the series in Delhi and with India piling on 616/5d in the first innings of the second game, Pakistan were up against a mountain to try and save the series. Additionally, at 85/3, they were in a bit of a fix until Misbah walked in at No.5. He put on a 207-run stand for the sixth wicket with Kamran Akmal (119) and a 91-run stand for the seventh wicket with Mohammad Sami to save Pakistan from following on. His unbeaten knock helped them post 456 in the first innings – a score that ensured the match resulted in a draw.
102 v England, Dubai, 2015: Another Pakistan win, thanks to a 350-plus first-innings total steered by Misbah's lone century. Having elected to bat first, it was imperative for the hosts to put up a good total. While Shan Masood and Younis Khan both scored fifties, Pakistan were losing wickets at regular intervals. But captain Misbah stabilised them with a 93-run fourth-wicket stand with Younis (56) and 104-run fifth-wicket stand with Asad Shafiq (83), taking them to 378. A remarkable bowling effort from Wahab Riaz and Misbah's 87-run knock in the second innings sealed a 178-run victory for the hosts.
ODIs
83* v Sri Lanka, Colombo, Cricket World Cup 2011: Pakistan had a good campaign in the 2011 Cricket World Cup, making it to the semi-final of the tournament. It was a memorable World Cup for them, with captain Misbah-ul-Haq doing the bulk of scoring with crucial knocks. He was their highest run-getter in the tournament with 248 runs in six innings at an average of 49.60. His best came against Sri Lanka in a Group A fixture in Colombo where he slammed a 91-ball 83. After a top-order failure, he combined with his favourite batting partner, Younis (72), to share a 108-run stand for the fourth wicket. It helped Pakistan to a competitive 277/7. It was also Misbah's third-highest score in ODIs.
96* v West Indies, Champions Trophy, 2013: While Misbah produced quite a few hundreds in Tests, he could not reach the triple-figure mark in the 50-over format. The closest he came to the milestone was a scintillating 96 against West Indies at The Oval. In a disappointing batting performance, Pakistan were bowled out for just 170 in the group B fixture. Misbah was one of Pakistan's only two batters who reached double figures in the game. The other being Nasir Jamshed, who scored a 50 at the top. If not for Misbah, Pakistan would have succumbed for a far bigger loss. His unbeaten knock consisted of five fours and three sixes.

A Guide to Basketball Training Drills and Workouts
Basketball training drills and exercises significantly affect players' skill development, fitness, and general performance. Whether you play advanced or just starting, a well-organized training program helps to improve your court performance.
Ball-handling drills are firstly basic. They improve your under-pressure ball control, which is crucial in any playing environment. The stationary dribble is one great drill. Practicing dribbling the ball in situ with each hand helps you to increase hand-eye coordination and strengthen your feel for the ball. Including moves like crossover dribbles and behind-the-back dribbles will challenge your training as you get more at ease.
Passing exercises help players develop essential components of good collaboration, accuracy, and timing. The chest pass drill is one standard drill. Stand 10 feet apart and team up with another person. Emphasize giving each other precise, crisp chest passes so your passes reach your partner at chest level. Variations include overhead and bounce passes, which can help you handle many game situations.
The core of basketball training is shooting workouts. Crucially, scoring points increases your shot accuracy and consistency. One excellent beginning point is the form shooting drill. Start near the basket and focus on your shooting form, considering your hand placement, follow-through, and balance. As your form becomes better, progressively step away from the hoop. Including free throw practice in your regimen is also wise, as free throws may significantly affect game results.
One shouldn't undervalue defensive drills. Preventing the other team from scoring calls for solid defensive abilities. Closeout practice helps you get better at guarding players on the periphery. Start defensive, then rush toward an imagined opponent, keeping your balance low. This drill teaches you to stay ready to respond to the opponent's moves and close the distance fast.
Another essential component of basketball training is conditioning. High degrees of fitness enable you to maintain maximum performance throughout the game. The shuttle run practice greatly aids in building speed and endurance. Plot cones or markers around twenty feet apart, then dash back and forth between them. This workout increases cardiovascular endurance and replicates the rapid bursts of speed required during a game.
Including strength training in your program can help you perform generally better. Squats, lunges, and push-ups increase muscular strength and endurance. Strength training improves your body's general resilience, helping prevent injuries even as it increases your capacity for basketball-specific motions.
Rebounding workouts benefit both offensive and defensive play. The box-out exercise helps increase your capacity for rebounding security through practice in timing and posture. Work with a buddy to practice placing yourself between the opponent and the hoop as a shot approaches. Emphasize utilizing your body to create space and firmly securing the rebound with your hands.
Footwork workouts depend heavily on your general agility and mobility on the court. For instance, the ladder drill improves your coordination and foot quickness. You can execute many footwork patterns using an agility ladder, including high knees, side, and rapid steps. Both offensive and defensive play depend on your capacity to move swiftly and effectively; hence, this practice helps you in both directions.
Finally, including game-like scenarios in your instruction facilitates the application of the acquired abilities in actual-game environments. Situational exercises and Scrum games let you hone strategy under duress, team-building, and decision-making. These activities enable you to combine your abilities to create coherent team performance.

What Franchises might go for in PSL 6 Draft?
Pakistan Super League’s 6th edition is all set to take place from 20th February, 2021 with final to be played on 22nd March, 2021 at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. The tournament would require a strong team composition for reaching grand finale and as a part of making teams, all the 6 Franchises had given their retentions list to Pakistan Cricket Board. All the retentions were announced by PCB’s twitter handle today which is just a day before the actual draft takes place. The draft for making up full teams for PSL 6 is scheduled on 10th January, 2021 in Lahore which will help in shaping up the teams for the flagship event of PCB.
Keeping a look at the retentions, it looks like all the teams have opted for those players which they feel can help them in creating a winning combination. Every team had an option of retaining a maximum of 8 players. All the teams retained 8 players except Peshawar Zalmi, who retained only 5 players. Majority of the retained players are local players, whereas, out of 45 retained players only 10 are international players. An evenly balanced set of players has been retained which includes openers, middle order batsmen, fast bowlers, spinners and all-rounders. Let us have a look on each and every team individually which will help in identifying the possible picks for 2021.
Islamabad United
One of the most successful teams is Islamabad with 2 PSL titles to their name and they have retained 2 opening batsmen in which one has been traded with Karachi Kings. Other retentions include 3 all-rounders and 1 each middle-order batsman, fast bowler and spinner. Retained players include Alex Hales, Colin Munro, Asif Ali, Musa Khan, Zafar Gohar, Shadab Khan, Faheem Ashraf and Hussain Talat. Some of the major releases included Dale Steyn, Rumman Raees, Amad Butt, Phil Salt and Dawid Malan. But from the retentions, it seems that Islamabad’s management has gone for retaining performers and impact players only. With probably, the most balanced retentions, it seems like Islamabad will be eyeing on picking few batsmen of one whom can keep wickets as well along with strengthening their fast bowling unit. Another factor needs to keep in mind is that majority of England, New Zealand, Bangladesh and Australian players might not be available as they will be on their national duties.
Karachi Kings
Defending champions have gone on to retain 8 players in which majority of local performing players are included. Retentions include the likes of Babar Azam, Sharjeel Khan, Imad Wasim, Muhammad Amir, Aamir Yamin, Waqas Maqsood, Arshad Iqbal and Colin Ingram. Karachi has opted for a majority of local players which seems that they will be relying more on local talent because international cricketing commitments for foreign players will make it tough. Looking at the retentions of KK, it seems they will be eyeing to select some all-rounders stuff including a wicket-keeping option. Karachi has gone for retaining majority of those players which will gurantee them good bowling stuff. Therefore, they will look out to pick middle-order batsmen including the likes of some hard hitting batsmen with spin bowling options. Some of the major miss-outs from Karachi’s retentions are Mohammad Rizwan, Chadwick Walton, Iftikhar Ahmed, Umer Khan, Cameron Delport, Umaid Asif and Chris Jordan.
Lahore Qalandars
Finally, Lahore was able to turn the tables for themselves by finishing 3rd on the points table for the first time and peaked just at the right time of the tournament. Lahore was so close to winning the title but ended as runners up. The retentions list of Lahore included Mohammad Hafeez, Fakhar Zaman, Sohail Akhter, David Wiese, Dilbar Hussain, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf and Ben Dunk. All of these retentions were major performers in 2020 with each giving his performance at crucial stages of the tournament. However, Lahore didn’t retain one of their critical success factor, Samit Patel. It was earlier announced that Fakhar Zaman would not be retained but retentions list showed that Lahore has opted for retaining him. Key miss-outs were Usman Shinwar, Samit Patel and Chris Lynn. Lahore will be looking to pick some middle-order batsmen and spin options.
Multan Sultans
Multan had their best PSL last year but was unfortunately not able to win the trophy. The retention list of Multan included Shan Masood, James Vince, Rilee Rossouw, Sohail Tanvir, Shahid Afridi, Imran Tahir and Usman Qadir. Multan has also retained those players which makes the core of their team including middle order and top order batting along with one reliable T20 bowler in Sohail Tanvir and 3 leg spinners. From the team outlook, it seems that Usman Qadir, this time might get a longer run with Afridi and Imran Tahir at the eve of their playing careers. Key players that were not retained by Sultans included Moeen Ali, Zeeshan Ashraf, Ravi Bopara, Junaid Khan, Muhammad Irfan, Muhammad Ilyas and Rohail Nazir. Looking at the retentions, it seems like Multan will be looking to pick likes of fast bowlers and middle order batsmen as it self-sufficient in the spin department. However, like majority of teams, Multan will also be searching for a wicket keeping option in the drafts.
Peshawar Zalmi
One of few teams who are eyeing a complete overhaul is Peshawar Zalmi. They have retained only 5 players as there was an option of retaining 8 but quite a selective list is being selected by them. Keeping in mind their turn in the draft, they seem to select diverse group of players as they have retained only 1 fast bowler, Wahab Riaz; 3 batsmen, Kamran Akmal, Liam Livingstone, Haider Ali and 1 all-round option in Shoaib Malik. It seems that majority of batting talent has been retained but some lower order batting options and complete bowling unit shall be picked in the draft. Peshawar had not performed that well in the last season and may be they want to completely overhaul their team composition as they have even gone on to release Hasan Ali, who had performed brilliantly with bat and ball in the domestic 4-day tournament. Some major outliers from Zalmi were Hammad Azam, Umar Amin, Tom Banton, Liam Dawson, Carlos Brathwaite, Imam ul Haq, Yasir Shah and Rahat Ali.
Quetta Gladiators
With most number of matches won in first four seasons of PSL, Quetta was named among top contenders as PSL returned home last year. However, Gladiators performed quite badly as they were 6th on the points table this year. Their combinations didn’t seem right and as a result of that, they have probably released all of their batting options. Retained players include Sarfraz Ahmed, Azam Khan, Ben Cutting, Muhammad Nawaz, Muhammad Hasnain, Anwar Ali, Naseem Shah and Zahid Mahmood. With decent performances in the domestic tournaments, Zahid Mahmood, unexpectedly has been retained. Some major players who were unable to see their names in the retention list of Quetta were Ahmed Shehzad, Ahsan Ali, Jason Roy, Fawad Ahmed, Tymal Mills, Sohail Khan and Khurram Manzoor. Keeping in mind the retentions list, core of the bowling unit has been retained, whereas, batting department’s overhaul will be done by picking appropriate players from the draft.
Let us all see that how teams shape up after the PSL draft on 10th January, 2021.

Wahab Riaz and Kamran Akmal Allowed to Join Zalmi Squad
Wahab Riaz, the captain of Peshawar Zalmi, and Kamran Akmal, the veteran wicket-keeper batter, have fully recovered from Covid-19 and have returned to the Zalmi camp ahead of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2022’s second match. Following their negative Covid-19 tests a few days ago, both players were allowed to practise with the squad. Prior to the start of the PSL, both players, as well as…

ECP is not sure to use of EVMs in next election
Despite the required legislation to hold elections using electronic voting machines (EVMs) going through, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is still not sure if EVMs will actually be used in the next polls.
This observation from the ECP came during a meeting of the members of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Law and Justice, chaired by PTI MNA Riaz Fatyana. It took India 20 years and Brazil 22 years to start using these machines, ECP Secretary Omar Hamid Khan told lawmakers, explaining that it will also take them "a while" to get EVMs up and running.
The ECP official said there are challenges in using EVMs and they cannot say anything with surety on whether the use of EVMs will be applicable in the next elections or not.
Khan said EVMs would have to go through 14 steps before they can be used in the next general elections. There would be three to four more pilot projects related to the use of the EVMs, he maintained.
“How many EVMs will there be at a polling station also remains to be figured out,” he said, adding that the state institution is working to facilitate overseas Pakistanis.
On this occasion, MNA Aalia Kamran raised some very pertinent questions, including how the EVMs would be used in areas without internet.
“[The] people of Balochistan barely go to cast votes. How will they cast a vote on an EVM?” she asked.
On Friday, the PTI government bulldozed 33 bills in a joint session of Parliament, including the election amendment bill, making way for the use of EVMs in the next elections.
The Opposition has continually objected to the use of these machines, saying they are prone to hacking and not reliable. Meanwhile, senior PML-N leader Ahsan Iqbal says EVMs are vulnerable to rigging even if they do not operate online
“The machines will work under the government’s supervision. They can be tampered with,” he said while addressing the media outside Parliament House alongside PPP parliamentary leader in the Senate Sherry Rehman, JUI-F's Shahida Akhtar and PML-N Information Secretary Marriyum Aurangzeb.
“What happened yesterday will go down as a black day in Pakistan’s history, where a red line was crossed by the government and the world saw the worst demonstration of Pakistan's government pass controversial, polarising legislation with an artificial majority, created by coercion and carrots,” Rehman said.
Iqbal said there was information that the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) chairperson was allegedly using organisational resources and data for the government's upcoming election campaign.
"If NADRA is found leaking national data to the government, they will be liable to face treason charges,” he said.
Iqbal, too, said it was the "blackest" day in the history of Parliament, expressing the hope that the courts would now uphold the Constitution.
