#SalaamVenkyReview: Film about motherhood who steadfastly fought to fulfil her son’s last wish. Film is Aawesome.#Kajol is perform really good. #AamirKhan is fresh feeling in the story. #Revathi direct the film with the heart. This film Is goosebumps master. Movie Ratings : ⭐⭐⭐⭐tars Revathi’s Salaam Venky is based on The Last Hurrah by Shrikant Murthy. The book is inspired by the true story of Kolavennu Venkatesh, a 24-year-old chess player who suffered from the rare degenerative disease Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. The story is equally about his mother Sujata, Medical predictions estimated a 16-year life span for Venkatesh, but his determination and love for life, along with his mother’s unflinching commitment, saw him live to the age of 24. Adapted for the screen by Sameer Arora, Salaam Venky is a mother-son story with Kajol playing Sujatha and Vishal Jethwa as her charming, smiling son Venky. His final wish is to die by euthanasia, which will allow him to donate his organs. (Passive euthanasia has been legal in India since 2018.) The first half of the 136-minute film unfolds mostly in a hospital room where Venky is hooked up to machines and tubes. Through flashbacks, we see his childhood, his relationship with his peers and his hobbies. Venky loves Hindi movies and swears by the line from Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s Anand (1971): “Zindagi badi honi chahiye, lambi nahin” (life should be lived to the fullest ). In the hospital, Venky is surrounded by caring nursing staff and a compassionate doctor (Rajeev Khandelwal). His mother, sister (Ridhhi Kumar), childhood friend (Aneet Padda) and members of an ashram, where he was raised, are his constant companions and visitors. The second half is largely about Sujata’s petition, the court case and media support for the case. Rahul Bose and Priyamani play opposing lawyers and Ahaana Kumra is the television reporter championing this news story. Prakash Raj, Kamal Sadanah, Anant Mahadevan and Parvathi T also feature. Aamir Khan makes a quizzical cameo appearance. In spite of being constantly teary, Kajol immerses herself into the part of the devoted mother, particularly as she banters with and cares for her. https://www.instagram.com/p/Cl72KNlpf3L/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Sometimes you struggle to find a movie, so then you just go based on "what is a song I like?" And then, after having the movie on your 'should watch' list for years simply because the melodic awesomeness of 'Sanwali Saloni' (literally like since I first heard this song, around the time of the movie's release in 1995), you finally get around to it ... 27 years later.
We have a 'slightly too old to be the lead actor' Dharmendra along with a 'slightly too old to be the lead actor' Jeetendra along with 'young guy who does a lot of singing/dancing and being angry' Kamal Sadanah ... and get this. It's sort of a mess, in that - at least now, 27 years later - the graphics are really underwhelming, like when they show 'Robin Hood' disappearing (even more confusing is that he appears to throw smoke bombs inside the building, and then we see him jumping out of the window that definitely wasn't there when he was inside - and we see this multiple times); and in that some stuff doesn't age well, like the comedy track (see the next part of this sentence); and that, like most movies back then, the attempted comedy track (I assume that's what the constant slapping of a laugh-happy servant was; and Tiku Talsania's role too) is not funny. But like, it's still somewhat fun if you can get past the 'high horse' of morality that Jeetendra is on.
Our actresses - Ritu Shivpuri, Sujata Mehta, and whomever it is that plays Lakshmi - all get to fluctuate between 'damsel' and 'going around slapping bad guys,' and that second bit is entertaining, though towards the ends you wonder how they keep ending up slapping the same people so many times before the bad guys give up and go attack someone else. Ritu also gets to do her fair share of dancing. And her and Kamal's characters apparently have some sort of weird semi-telepathic communication that she can sing a song somewhere random and he can hear it through a non-existent cell phone and know where to go. Also, at the very end, just out of the blue, the 'with the baddies the whole time' actress (Upasana Singh) sees her character do a sudden 180 (like, literally, out of the blue and with no real warning) and jump in front of a thrown spear aimed for a good guy and sacrifices herself for him. Like, that came out of literally nowhere and is completely unexplained. Speaking of the women, the bad henchmen (or are they goons?) seem to have no issue attacking the women in the final fight sequence either - they still get their asses kicked, by the heroes and the heroines - but at least they show a willingness to attack indiscriminately. Though they might've been better off just leaving, cuz they sucked at the one thing they're probably supposed to be good at...
I don't know if this is just me noticing it more now or what, but this makes another movie where our bad guys are fully into a song/dance sequence - like, singing, dancing, the whole bit. Admittedly, like Vishwatma, they're in their own lair and celebrating their own (short-lived, though they don't know it yet) victory, but still, they're definitely shaking a leg and going all out. It's ironic here because one of the secondary bad guys is literally like "shoot him, don't just talk dialogue because I've seen movies and it never works" ... and then the bad guys dialogue, then more dialogue, then have a song & dance with half the good guys tied up (aka, half the good guys are still free and wandering around looking for them). Yeah, maybe should've listened.
Face masks! A whole year before Mission: Impossible, too! And crazy amazing face masks at that, too, because not only did they have the face of these people, but the face masks also gave them the body/physique. Those are some high quality masks!
Sanwali Saloni is undoubtedly the musical highlight of the movie - if not just the entire highlight; the rest of the music is just meh, at best. The story is, to some extent, not bad - but again, it suffers from probably being too ambitious for 1995. Yes, it was totally Bollywood to have multistarrers at the time, and we've never really left the era of post-hay day actors trying to maintain their stardom and 'lead role' power, but that reality just didn't mesh well with "smoke bomb and disappear" Robin Hood or with a poorly fleshed out group of characters who don't really evolve at all (one is angry throughout, except when dancing; one is ethically good throughout, even though he's seen the bad guys literally murder his family; one is legally bad, ethically good, and never once falters in his desire to Robin Hood his way into the death of the man who he knows killed his wife & framed him, despite having numerous opportunities). Also, you'd think that once his brother is sorta onto the whole "everywhere you go to dance, Robin Hood strikes," maybe they'd try one thing where he dances somewhere else to throw suspicion off him. But, no, instead he just remains a very poor man's 'angry young Amitabh Bachchan' (very, very poor man's) and changes absolutely nothing.
Typical '90s multi-starrer with a bunch of actors going around fighting a bunch of baddies, multiple times - with occasionally interspersed songs, some dance-y, some melodious; some playing a secondary role in the plot - until the final fight where they finally kill all/some of the baddies (depending on whether or not you have one of the characters portraying a 'holier than thou' cop). Interesting decision here to make 2 of the main characters played by guys who were stars 10-20 years prior, but hey ... if your star shines bright, you might as well milk it for all its worth.
There's a lot going on and it is somewhat entertaining. Good enough, right? However, I think I'll just stick to Sanwali Saloni on repeat. I do much like the song, as I have for years; that definitely hasn't changed. It's such a nice song.
