At the living animal survey by Environment NPO, we found no larvae of dragon fly but many gobies and Japanese mitten crab rare here this time in the stream near Kamakura station. Some of the gobies had swollen bellies filled with eggs which looked bluish from outside. We even found their eggs laid on the bottom of a stone.

A praying mantis looks like trying to catch something floating on water surface. A strange behaviour. Maybe, it is infected by a parasite? (I have heard about it on TV before.)

Environmental Class at Sekiya Elementary School on Oct. 24th
Our environmental NPO, the City of Kamakura, and the school jointly held an environmental class for the 6th graders. We studied the nearby stream, especially stream creatures and water quality. The school children were so active and talkative that I didn’t think they were listening, but very surprizingly they presented their findings in well-organized manner at the end. I was also impressed because not only they included many technical knowledge but also they expressed their will not to throw away their trash to the river and to protect our environment.
