Hajime Umemiya | “Hey! Hi! Are ya hungry?”

The first face you see when you walk in, all in his shirtless glory

An absolute king at grilling – he’s got burgers, hotdogs, skewers, the works

The lettuce and tomatoes? Yeah, he grew them

Will take every chance he has to tell everyone too

Be careful though – for as much as he’s hot, he’s also a yapper

Being behind the grill unlocks a side of him that not many know – his dad side

“There’s a lot at steak… it’s un-grill-ievable!”

Buzzed & responsible – doesn’t let himself get too lit when he’s grilling

But once everyone’s had their fill and he’s got some downtime? Oh he’s inviting everyone to shotgun a beer with him

Can slam down a can in like 3 seconds no joke

Then, he’ll turn to you with stars in his eyes waiting for your words of praise and acknowledgement (how do you tell him that he did it so fast that you didn't see it?)

Toma Hiragi | “Whaddya drinkin’?”

You’re telling me you WOULDN'T trust this man to get the best liquor for the party?

Gonna go out on a limb here and say that he leans toward either Hennessy or Casamigos

Throws back his shots like a fucking champ – no chase needed (he likes the burn of it)

Definitely a heavy weight, so he’s got at least 2 of whatever he’s drinking just in case

Also doesn’t drink chase because of his stomach, so you know – go big or go home

Never lets you pour your own shots (chivalry isn’t dead, everyone)

And … if you ask him nicely … he’ll birdfeed it to you

Ren Kaji | “Chase is over there – you need help getting it?”

With how much candy he has to inhale on a daily basis, it just makes sense that he would be getting the soda, juice, or whatever pairing he thinks goes well with the corresponding liquor

And he definitely went with Hiragi to pick everything up (so cute)

Also in charge of the playlist for the day (I know his music taste is impeccable)

If you tell him this, though, he’d try to be so nonchalant about it (inside his heart is doing little pitter patters)

I feel like he has little shit tendencies and once everyone is feeling good he’ll see how many times he can queue Party In The USA until someone notices (wears his headphone tho bc ofc he would get annoyed)

Akihiko Nirei | “I made it! It’s really good – want a sip?”

JUNGLE! JUICE! PRO!

I just know he’s got the most insane recipe in his notebook (he’s got the exact measurements and brand names too)

Based on countless interviews, many trial runs, and many hangovers –  he’s perfected it to a T

Literally one cup has everyone on a good one – and he’s somehow got it to not taste like alcohol at all?

So proud of it too – if you tell him how good it is he’s got hearts in his eyes and he’s offering to get you another cup (with your consent of course)

Haruka Sakura | “I just grabbed the first one I saw … is it good? Do you like it?”

He’s new to this you know, so he’s keeping it cute and simple and easy

Besides, you can never go wrong with a pack of seltzers

He’s so cute and flustered about it too –

Like imagine him standing in front of the fridges just looking at all of them and getting slowly overwhelmed by all the different types and seeing that they all have different alc % and it’s getting so confusing

He just grabs one that looks decently good or has a name that seems kinda familiar to him and he storms off

And it’s literally like Twisted Tea or White Claws or something

But, as I said, you can never go wrong with a nice basic seltzer

Compliment his choice (even if you know it was made on a whim) and he’ll blush (he blames it on the summer heat)

Hayato Suo | “Do you want me to get your back?”

Sweet, thoughtful king

Brings sunblock and aloe vera gel because he just knows that everyone else will forget the basic necessities

If you need help getting your back, he’s more than happy to offer his services

Also – who would he be if he didn’t bring green tea shots (it’s a given)

He actually created them not many people know that

It’s always the perfect ratio too – never too strong and never too weak (the perfect balance)

Anyways, also a heavyweight (potentially) but gets just a bit touchy when he’s buzzed

So when he offers to reapply sunblock on you despite having done it less than 30 minutes ago, who are you to say no?

Kyotaro Sugishita | “I need a partner … You any good?”

This man absolutely demolishes at beer pong

Never leaves the table actually (and stays undefeated the whole dayger)

He’s so tall like he’s got built-in stats for it already

If Umemiya takes a break from grilling and comes to join him? Oh they’re absolutely wiping everyone

If beer pong was an Olympic sport, Sugashita would’ve already been scouted

Because he’s so good, he doesn’t even need a partner that’s at the same level as him – he just needs a partner

But – to him, making at least one cup is better than nothing, and if you’re able to do just that? Oh, you’re never leaving his side

Mitsuki Kiryu | “You want a hit, cutie?”

It’s actually canon that Kiryu smokes like I just know it in my heart and soul

Loves to make different blends too, some with rose petals and some with lavender 

His blunts are so pretty too, and he’ll use pink wrapping papers

Also has a small bong just in case anyone wants it in that form — and also edibles

And also cigs

He has money, why wouldn’t he show out?

His lighters all have decoden on them too, and they all have his name spelled on it (he was tired of people stealing them)

Also incredibly respectful – brings his own ashtray that he disposes of on his own

I feel like he transitions a lot of people into smoking for the first time (if they’re interested, of course! Would never peer pressure.)

But …. Oh boy… the way that he would gently tilt your head back to blow a hit into your mouth

Kotoha Tachibanau | “I’m gonna get you so wet!”

Give this girl a break she deserves to have fun!

Stays in the pool most of the time, but also loves to soak up the sun so she’s got her own self-care agenda for the day

Loves water guns! Brings like 2 or 3 of them

Also probably brings a book to enjoy by the pool when she’s tanning

Definitely the type to get the ice water from the coolers and spray anyone who tries to come within 5 feet of her

If she feels silly (and buzzed) she’ll pour jungle juice into them and shoot them into people’s mouths

Takes this time to truly relax and unwind (we love a work-life balance!) – and loves doing it beside you

Taiga Tsugeura | “Don’t forget to drink water!”

Absolutely brings cases of water and liquid IV

He’s all for partying, don’t get him wrong, but he’s also got to hit the gym tomorrow so

Makes sure that everyone’s got a bottle of water on them – his virtue is caring too much

Also decently good at beer pong, but his downfall is that he throws the ball too hard and ends up hitting people like 10 feet away from him in the head

Also strikes me as unhinged, so – if you’re cool with getting pulled into the pool, then he’s definitely your guy

Definitely does flips while diving into the pool to try and impress you (it works)

Jo Togame | “Need some help with that?”

What Sakura may lack in seltzers, Togame makes up in beer

If there’s one thing he knows, it’s a good brand of beer

Also clocked in my mind as a heavyweight, so if he’s up to drink, he’s bringing many many cases

Has a bottle opener that has sentimental value to him – probably one that Choji got for him

Can also pop it open with his teeth (but no one ever lets him because it’s bad)

("Sure, okay, whatever squares" — he listens.)

If he sees you struggling to pop the cap off, he’s already grabbing it from your hand and doing it for you – no questions asked

(Ask him while he’s buzzed, and he’ll do it with his teeth, all while staring into your eyes)

Choji Tomiyama | “Let’s take a shot!”

The first thing he does is do a cannonball in the pool (this is so canon)

If you’re a soju lover – he’s got it!

Brings all the flavors too, but is most partial to yogurt-flavored soju

Is flitting all over the party talking to everyone and anyone

(Tries his hand at beer pong – going to go out on a limb here and say that he sucks)

However! He is a heavyweight!

Can hold his own with Umemiya and Togame for sure

Is definitely the one gathering everyone together to take some shots

Will probably ask Kaji to play Shots by LMFAO and Lil Jon every single time (after the first time, Kaji starts ignoring him)

If you’re open to shots, is absolutely pulling you by your arm to take yet another one

Should Mizu have saved Akemi from her dad's retainers?

Yes?? It was 3 men. That's like saying Akemi shouldn't have left the cellar to save Mizu from getting choked to death knowing she can't fight for shit or Taigen should've betrayed her after all that torture at Shindo's or Ringo should've left Mizu to drown in that icy moat after she called him weak. They didn't owe her SHIT.

But they did it because it was the honorable thing to do. Ofc Mizu was tired and traumatized from the flashbacks but she'd have cut those men up if it meant getting closer to Fowler and her revenge. She didn't save Akemi by letting her get taken, she chose her fate on her behalf after preaching to her that "she can have anything she wants."

When Ringo, Taigen, Kaji gave Mizu shit, it wasn't because she didn't fight for Akemi but because she pursued hatred and cast aside anyone who didn't serve her purpose. When Ringo and Taigen were like: you just stood there? They said that in the light of knowing how cruel and relentless she is in trying to achieve her goal.

That's her arc though. Mizu changed. Gave Akemi her freedom to choose rather than abandoning her in the face of danger. Saved Taigen over killing Fowler and proved herself honorable in Ringo's eyes. Akemi also needed to stop relying on men so Mizu not helping her makes sense but her heart wasn't in the right place.

Don't support Mizu's self destruction when the story itself holds her accountable for it. Stop cushioning her. Everyone in the story has some shit going on. Even Fowler. Any damn sex workers at Kaji's.

Attack on Titan - Season 4 Finale A Rewatch Commentary

(manga spoilers)

-as far as i've seen, the reactions to the finale have been overwhelmingly positive and my heart is at peace. it’s what aot deserves.

-i've been waiting for this since the manga; to see the beautiful jean/reiner bromance animated

-gosh, our ackermans are so beautiful

-hello yuki kaji's bb <3

-the desperation in annie as she fights hallu-chan

-i just want to know! did eren explicitly tell mikasa about the mouth, ymir, and visiting the others, or did she sense it path-like and they just committed to the living together scenario until the end?!

-i guess there were two paths. one path, eren ends up with mikasa and condemns paradis. the other path, eren ends up with armin. in hell. and condemns the world.

-EREN'S REFLECTION ON THE WINDOW HAS THE TITAN MARKS

-YES ARMIN GRAB THAT LIL BITCH'S HAIR (i love you eren, but.)

-how is aot so heartwarming amidst all this tragedy. there's just these moments that are so heartwarming. that’s the point, isn’t it -it's an excellent choice that they delayed eren telling armin that 80% of humanity dies. it makes sense for armin to chat and enjoy the sights when in his mind the only place that's been destroyed for sure is marley, their natural enemy.

-"ONLY IMYR KNOWS" MY ASS! WE KNOW WHY, EREH! because mikasa was a strong woman who loved deeply the one person who could actually get to the paths and bring about change and cause mikasa to bring about change! idiot to the end. i'm sure armin will explain it to you the next time after the next time.

-lil snek armin wanting to provoke a reaction from eren with his mikasa stuff

-it's so armin, to want to bear eren's sins together with him, and it's so damn heartwarming seeing eren so moved at realizing he's not alone and that he won't be alone and i just, argh, ARGH. eren seeing that he's so unconditionally loved, armin accepting his own responsibility, like, "you're not alone, you were never alone, you weren't driven to this alone, you should not be blamed alone, you should not bear it alone." and they're FINE with that, is the thing. they find peace in that, in the fact that they'll share the burden and be in hell *together.* what's interesting to me is that eren doesn't contradict armin. he doesn't tell him "no, you're not going to hell." either he understands and acknowledges armin's complicity and sins in general, or he just appreciates the thought, i can’t decide, but either way he feels relief. eren and armin, i cry. they always had a strong relationship, but this just elevates them to top friendships of all time. the anime strengthens their bond so incredibly much. through their shared fate, friendship, goals and crimes, they will end up together because they paved this road together - along with so many others, with so many good intentions. it's this relationship that shone the most to me in the anime ending, whereas in the manga ending the focus feels more on mikasa (ofc marina inoue also killed it throughout the ep, so she elevated armin by 110%). -and visually: the hair and teeth on eren's hand vs the seashell in armin's, both covered in blood. armin, in the midst of hell, giving eren a symbol of peace, freedom, life. armin, eren's ride-or-die, who formed eren and eren formed him, showing eren that he will never leave him alone, smiling as he says they'll be together forever. eren finding peace and relief in the fact during his darkest moment. -i respect armin's acknowledgement that he is the catalyst of eren's idea of the outside world, and that he played a role in everything. eren the founding titan didn't sprout off the earth like a cabbage, he was led to this by every single person in his life and by his own personality, everyone is complicit. but armin, bb, that's not why you're going to hell if any of you go to hell. i'm pretty sure pre-rumbling, armin is the paradis soldier with the highest kill count of civilians, out of a plan he orchestrated. he leveled marley's port and everything surrounding it. let's start from there, lil cinnamon roll, yes? -it's interesting to see how differently eren's two strongest relationships play out in the end. for mikasa, he creates a dream scenario, a clean-cut version of himself that's genuine but not his current state, the what would-have-been if mikasa had given a different answer. mikasa needs calmness, kindness, an anchor, and that’s what eren gives her, the part of him that she never fails to see even when eren’s at his worst. to armin, he's his current self in all his glory. scared, pathetic, self-loathing, confused, messed-up, kind (eren's always been kind, that's as non-debatable for me as it is for mikasa), insightful etc. he cries, he screams, he reasons, he loves. he hugs armin so hard. he hides nothing, because armin's always seen eren's ugly side and vice versa. armin needs truth, not kindness. in a way, mikasa sees through eren’s worst self, whereas armin accepts eren’s worst self for what it is, and both are right, and both love him as he is, as they are.

-mikasa has been so alone, man. so alone. i HOPE that's jean. i hope it's jean that’s with her. no one could understand her better than he can -excellent choice that they show what levi et all are doing three years later, instead of where they are. nice that they're addressing the environmental aspect of it all. -i don’t know how to conclude this. aot is a masterpiece, and although in many ways it’s been a torture getting to know it, i love it with all i have. i cherish the characters deeply, i adore the story, i am in awe of the world-building, and it’s affected me so deeply and profoundly that i feel bonded to it. it’s something really close to my heart.

Best male characters in shoujo & josei manga - in my opinion, ofc

!!! Might contain spoilers about Love so Life, Faster than a Kiss, Last Game, Love Phantom, Special A, ReRe Hello, Kainushi wa Akuma, Sabaku no Harem, Max Lovely and Kimi ni Todoke. 

So, my criteria for this was:

1. is he toxic?

2. can he communicate properly with the female lead?

3. could I stand to talk with him for more than an hour?

That’s basically it. I used to love a bunch of male characters without realizing how douchey they actually were. Do I still love them? Yeah, but mostly because of nostalgia, I don’t actually consider them good men. 

I’m not saying the men in this list are perfect, cause c’mon we all know how manga characters - and people - are, but I think these are pretty great.  

Without further ado, here’s my - non ranked - fave MLs:

1. Matsunaga Seiji, Love so Life. 

This man is adorable, the best thing ever, I want him to myself. We don’t actually see a lot of romance in Love so Life, HOWEVER, Seiji is a responsible, caring, sweet guy. Once he gets his shit together he talks openly with the female lead about how he feels and how - because of their age difference - he’s willing to wait for her and that she doesn’t have to answer him right then and there or feel guilty if she doesn’t want to be with him in the future. 

Honestly, I really love him. He’s not a creepy older guy preying on a young girl, he respects her age and wants her to live her youth before settling down. Does he rely a bit too much on a 16yo? Yes, but I overlook it ‘cause I love him.

2. Ojiro Kazuma, Faster than a Kiss. 

Again, not a teacher/older man preying on a young girl. He’s her teacher and their relationship starts out with him wanting to protect/help his student out. If I’m not mistaken, he doesn’t even kiss her until she graduates, HOWEVER, he does make her wear sexy costumes, which is problematic. 

Overall, he’s sweet, helps her a lot, really loves her and wants to protect her (and her cute litlle brother). 

3. Yanagi Naoto, Last Game.

Yanagi starts out as a douchey rich kid who thinks he’s superior to everyone else until he’s beaten by the female lead and wants to defeat her. Overtime, he realizes he’s actually in love with her. He’s shy when it comes to her, and very patient. 

Did he follow her to middle school, high school and college? Yes. Would I find that creepy in real life? Absolutely. Can I excuse it because it’s a shoujo manga? Yes again. 

I think he’s a solid male lead for a shoujo manga, and I personally like him, but I definitely see issues with his behavior. 

4. Hase Kei, Love Phantom.

I want him. He’s older than the FL, so he often teases her, but I find it pretty adorable, especially when he’s the one feeling shy. Excluding chapter 01, I can’t remember any obvious flaws in his behavior. To sum up, I love him. 

5. Takishima Kei, Special A. 

Here is an OG male lead that I wouldn’t punch or kick.

Kei is handsome, rich, super smart and he doesn’t give a fuck about anything except the FL. She’s extremely competitive and he always goes along with her whims. He’s protective of her and a tad possessive, but it doesn’t really bother me. He’s pretty solid. 

6. Suou Minato, ReRe Hello.

Minato has his flaws as a person, but as a man/boyfriend, I really love him. I feel like he really cherishes the FL and usually respects her independence. If you haven’t read this manga, I definitely recommend you do!

7. Albrecht Ebel, Kainushi wa Akuma.

He’s super hot and sassy, I love it. Does he sort of sexually harass the FL? Yes, frequently. Does it bother me? Not really, to be honest. And I absolutely despise when male characters are forceful or rapey. I don’t know how to explain it, but at the same time that he teases her, he’s extremely sweet. I know this intro sounds bad, but I want to be upfront about it. Major spoilers ahead: in one of the final chapters, he’s feeling possessive and tries to have sex with her (she didn’t contest it), and when he comes to, she’s trembling and he stops, apologizes, says that there’s no meaning to it if she doesn’t want to and stays distant from her until she approaches him after realizing they love each other.

He is super sweet and she does love him, of course (it’s still a shoujo manga after all). I think everyone should give it a read (and you can delve into the wonderful world of flirting that is Kaji Eiri’s mangas). 

(Real quick, part of the reason I love her work so much is that the main couple flirts consistently throughout the manga, and one thing that bothers me a lot in shoujo manga is when the protagonists only get together in the last chapter.)

8. Sahara Taki, Max Lovely. 

Honestly, I just really love their relationship. This is a 20 year old manga but it’s really solid. I’ve re-read this a bunch of times and I absolutely love it. It’s not romance exclusively, there’s a pretty dark background story, but I really enjoy it. And Taki is a pretty baby, super sweet with the FL and usually very honesy with her.

9. Prince Kallum, Sabaku no Harem.

Would I be one of many wifes to a handsome and rich prince? No. Do I treat manga as reality? God, no. 

He’s very amusing, loves to tease the FL and is pretty sweet. I really enjoyed reading this, I think it’s a solid shoujo with a great male lead, and should definitely be on your list if you haven’t read it yet. 

10. Kazehaya Shouta, Kimi ni Todoke.

Is he my favorite male character? No. To be perfectly honest, he’s not even on my top 10. But is he a good man/boyfriend? Yes, and that’s why he’s on this list.

Like I said in the beginning of the post, there are toxic male characters that I still love despite them being shitty. 

Kazehaya is a popular type but he’s super nice and charismatic. He treats the FL which is usually dismissed by everyone with a lot of respect and care. I think he’s a bit too shy and indirect, which can sometimes jeopardize his relationship with her, but other than that, he’s a great guy. 

BONUS 01: not actually a boyfriend but I love him

Tsuruga Ren, Skip Beat. 

Now, is Ren perfect? No, he has a lot of flaws. A LOT. But I absolutely love him and I think he’s maturing. 

BONUS 02: I don’t personally love this type of character for myself, but I really like him 

Suoh Tamaki, Ouran High School Host Club. 

Like I said, he’s not my type, but I think he’s pretty cute and adorable and totally deserves to be on the list, so I made this spot just for him. 

BONUS 03: douchey guys I was blindly in love with as a teenager

1. Usui Takumi, Kaichou wa Maid-Sama. 

Do I hate Usui? No, not at all. I actually really like him. 

But he’s possessive, secretive, dismissive and forceful.

2. Irie Naoki, Itazura na Kiss. 

Naoki has always been - in my opinion - a dick. He pissed me of quite a bit even back then. But, since I always make sure to wear my shoujo anime/manga glasses to ignore problematic behavior when I’m reading manga, I don’t hate him.

! Please don’t get me wrong, even with my shoujo anime/manga glasses there are certain things that I can’t ignore and that really drive me crazy (ex. rape, racism, fat shaming, etc) 

It’s simply that I can understand that there’s a huge gap between manga and reality, and as long as I can recognize the problematic behaviors, I feel like I can enjoy them and respect the poetic license behind it.

ハコヅメ～交番女子の逆襲～/Hakozume: Kouban Joshi no Gyakushuu/Police in a Pod

Sounds interesting, and animation style looked nice. Not usually my first choice as cast is a bit unknown for me but PV was great.

6/1 

東京24区/Tokyo 24-ku/Tokyo 24th Ward

Cast is amazing, Enoki, Uchida Yuuma and Ishikawa Kaito. PV looked so good. Plot is interesting, and animation style was nice.

オリエント/Orient

Uchida Yuuma and Saito Souma being main pair's voice actors. Action and fantasy. Story is interesting, fighting scenes looked good

Watched first season, so want to see how they'll continue after it and how the characters will develop.

薔薇王の葬列/Baraou no Souretsu/ Requiem of the Rose King

Action, drama, supernatural and historical theme count me in :). Cast is nice, and story is interesting, and will be waiting this quite a lot. Also Furukawa Makoto is singing OP.

フットサルボーイズ!!!!!/Futsal Boys!!!!!

I have been waiting when they'll show this. Have played futsal myself when I was younger and love football so it's going to be interesting. And seeing nice looking guys is bonus. PV looked great, and I'm always on board with rivaling teams going against the main team. Also STEREO DIVE FOUNDATION is making OP.

佐々木と宮野/Sasaki to Miyano/Sasaki and Miyano (BL)

PV looked so cute and have been waiting this, main pair is cute and overall the cast is nice, especially the main pair's (Saito Souma and Yuusuke Shirai).

The cast is great (Sawashiro Chiharu, Chiba Shouya, Suwabe Junichi and Takeuchi Shunsuke) and story sounds very interesting. PV looked amazing, probably going to be hilarious one. MIYAVI is performing the OP.

oh they think it’s canon because the director of the anime talked about how profound erwin and levis’ friendship is. The director used an ambiguous word and they like to perceive it as romantic (ofc). 

but again, it’s all just shipping bait. I believe I read an interview where it is said that Levi forcefully bathes Hanji--which can be perceived as comedic or romantic. Or you have the example where both of Eren’s voice actors talk about how much they love Levi to the point where Kaji requested art of Eren-heichou.

Like these are all used to rile up fans (don’t get me wrong, I like these kinds of things too)...but deep down, I think we can agree that they’re only canon if explicitly stated in the manga. _(:3 」∠)_

Drama CD: [幽幻ロマンチカ・真骨頂] ≁Bakeneko Arahagi・Inugami Toneri≁

No audio track this time sorry! But anyway, I’ve made sizeable progress on the Yuuroma series: Hifumi + Utashiro’s Hatenkou, Zakuro, Toneri, and a bunch of tokuten for everybody (/*^-^)/. I’ll do the 2nd Shinkocchou first, for continuity.

And I haven’t listened to the two individual discs before this, so I had no idea who they are... or that their names are actually Arahagi (cat demon; cv. Kaji Yuuki) and Toneri (dog deity; cv, Hirakawa Daisuke) until about 3/4 into the story, since they kept calling each other ‘Stupid Cat’ and ‘Stupid Dog’. Orz

Obvsly this time there is no bromance like in the 1st disc and they fight like... err... cats and dogs (for lack of a better description XD).

[The Second Rumour: Urban Legend ‘2D Boyfriend’]

All the girls at your school are addicted to a mobile otome game app. Rumour has it that players can end up getting trapped in the game world, and their bodies are found in sleeping position holding their phones in one hand.

Toilet Guy has again asked Arahagi and Toneri to investigate. This time your team name is: the Pitch-Black Executors ~DARK (K)NIGHT MESSIAH~. Σ_(꒪ཀ꒪」∠)_. And both your animal manservants have the good sense to hate this abomination of a name. But it will come in handy later on...

So. First order of business is to throw *you* into the virtual world. It’s been rumoured that collecting a full set of accessories from one game character can accomplish this, so your animal bfs possess your body and go shopping.

They push a bunch of bling on you (Toneri makes you wear a choker that reminds him of a dog collar XD), and eventually you can’t take it anymore and run out of the store because you don’t wanna turn into the lovechild of Katy Perry and Flavor Flav. And anyway it didn’t work. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ RIP Operation BringTheBling1.

Plan #2: There is another rumour that players get sucked in when they access the app at midnight. So Catboy and Dogman (henceforth ‘CatDog’) camp over in your bed, and sure enough, when the clock strikes 12, you fall into a deep sleep and enter the game world.

The game is set in a high school that’s an *exact* replica of Nanagiri, with two characters who sound (and look) exactly like your Cat and Dog bfs. [Hirarin is the senpai and Kaji is the kouhai, ofc.] You are shocked by this unfolding of events, and the two of them think you have a cold and need to go to the nurse’s office to rest.

You take this as an opportunity to escape, and as you are running you hear Arahagi and Toneri’s voices from the other side. They successfully possess your sleeping body and enter the virtual world as well.

Senpai and Kouhai can see the demons possessing you. They forcibly exorcise the duo and drag you away. As the exorcised duo come to, they find themselves turned into their chibi forms XDD. Meanwhile, Senpai and Kouhai have taken you to the nurse’s office. As they are trying to approach you, you spray the fire extinguisher at them and make your escape. Niceee.

You manage to find Arahagi and Toneri hiding in the courtyard. They repossess your body to regain their powers and apologise for not being able to protect you. But you have come up with a battle plan: Operation LoveLetter1. Dun dun DUNNN.

The plan is to put a love letter in their shoe locker asking Senpai and Kouhai to meet with you next evening. Being in an otome game, they can only do as they are told to unlock the love event. (Also what is with this 3P-harem setting where you can confess and unlock event for two characters at once?? I need to get in on dis yo. ¬‿¬)

You and CatDog stay up all night to discuss the battle plan, and Arahagi thinks this whole game reeks of the work of a human being. He figures out that they can rob the game characters of their powers by stealing their phones. (Why do even the characters have phones inside the game??) And to power-up themselves, CatDog trade hugs and kisses with each other (I WISH!!) you to feed off of your human energy.

Next day, Senpai and Kouhai show up at the arranged meeting time, and CatDog appear to start a riot. They throw out your team name Pitch-Black Executors ~DARK (K)NIGHT MESSIAH~, which confuses their opponents and gives them the perfect opportunity to steal the opponents’ phones.

Toneri ties the two characters up with chains and Arahagi drops a bunch of machinery and shit on top of them, but dis ain’t ovah ya’ll. The two of them go into *dark mode*. They change the backdrop and damage the data of Arahagi and Toneri’s bodies. As they bury CatDog alive and take you away, you tell them that you believe in CatDog, which gives them the power they need to free themselves from entombment and destroy the game characters.

...When the smoke clears, they see a student that was sucked into the game world. Strangely enough, *it’s a boy*, and they figure that he must be the human that the game monster is possessing and feeding off of.

It turns out that the boy offered himself as a human sacrifice to the urban legend and created this game world to shield his younger sister from the harsh reality. The game world begins to disintegrate, and Toneri tells the boy to face his sister properly instead of doing this stupid shit in the name of ‘protection’. To Toneri and Arahagi, who come into this world all alone, every little detail of the familial bonds and ties between humans seems magical and deserves to be treasured.

The three of you wake up in your bed, and CatDog wonder if the boy’s little sister is going to be alright. You devise a plan... for the two of them to appear to her in a dream pretending to be the two game characters. Toneri flubs his lines and gets beaten up by Arahagi XD. They tell the girl they are relieved that she has finally awoken from her slumber, and invite her to play the game again whenever she is feeling down.

Now a new urban legend has arisen: that whenever a girl gets sucked into the game world, her 2D boyfriend tells her to get out or else she won’t make it to her own wedding in the future. (#meirl XDD.) What’s more, CatDog have erased the oniisan’s memories of the whole incident, and both he and his sister have returned to school as usual.

*Meanwhile*, YOU have become addicted to this game app XD. After unsuccessfully trying to snatch your phone out of your hands, CatDog tease you with kisses and promise to make your real life more exciting than any game ever... yes please Hirarin and Kaji the two of you can come and possess me any time I don’t mind fufufufu~~~ (´┓`*)

Ok so this was my first introduction to both characters (Arahagi/Toneri). I kept thinking as I was listening to it: wouldn’t it be great if Kaji and Hirarin switched roles? Doesn’t it feel like Kaji has more of an excitable puppy-like personality (or quality to his voice, rather), and Hirarin has more of a slow, cat-like temperament??

In fact in the Free Talk when Hirarin said that he is 100% a Cat Person and he thinks Arahagi is really cute, I was all ready to jump out of my chair all like, ‘I KNEW IT!!!’ #notoverreactingatall._(:3」∠)_. ...I guess Rejet wanted to switch it up a little? Or maybe Kimura Ryouhei was busy, because Toneri [yandere + dog ears] sounds like the job for him. Also I can’t help but wonder how perfect Hirarin would be as Utashiro lulling me to sleep with his soothing voice...

But all this fantasy casting aside, every time I hear Toneri’s adorable grumpy/growling noises that he makes when he’s dissatisfied, I feel like they made the right casting choice after all. #omgWANT ლ(⁰⊖⁰ლ)

What else, what else... HmMMmMmm, the story and characters/pair dynamics this time round is a bit more childish and less ‘tight’ than before. So idk, I didn’t feel as much of *Deh Romantic Feelz* towards Arahagi/Toneri like I did for Hifumi/Utashiro. Although I still enjoyed it because I am immature.

The doppelganger bit was pretty kewl though. Although the battle scene kind of got resolved in a very #WTF kind of way and left me wanting more. Also the overprotective older brother story would’ve benefited from a better explanation/backstory of why he did what he did, no? Overall just kind of #わけわかんない, and not a very tight story, like I said.

The otome game theme was kind of relevant and interesting, esp the senpai character in the game who kept emphasising the use of this kind of romance fantasies as a form of escapism. ...Which got a bit philosophical/personal in a way, although I’m not sure if Toneri was the best person to expound on this because he’s so... erm... simple-minded XD.

Nonetheless, the overall message was clear: that it’s always better to face things head-on, and you have limitless potential as a human being. +++

But *then again* this series isn’t meant to be analysed very deeply. It’s more just for ya’ll to enjoy the cute huggable chibi things and the powerful demons protecting the fuck out of you. Yeah? Yeahh.

Although!! From the cast commentaries it seems like the seiyuu themselves can’t/won’t actually protect you from anything in the event of an actual urban legend/haunting. It’s funny how they voice all these powerful/scary demon and spirit characters, but when they see an actual horror programme or whatever on TV they quickly look away and change the channel!! (-_-|||) SENSEI I AM DISAPPOINT. 

The only exception so far is Sakurai Takahiro, who spouted off a bunch of kaidan-banashi from his old high school enthusiastically when asked. Like, everyone else is a wimp and he is the One True Hero. He even has ‘he[/i]ro’ in his name!!

Drama CD: [幽幻ロマンチカ・有頂天] ~Karasutengu: Hifumi~

「Insert dessert of your choice」より甘い乙女の皆さん!!! 

Time for Instalment #2 of your favourite Crow/Dog Thing.

Yes, it’s Hifumi <3

Remember when the old school building was destroyed in the storm and Hifumi-sama regained his freedom? Well, the building somehow mysteriously came back - but only on dark stormy nights. Hifumi reckons this must be the work of a powerful demon, or a disturbance to the forces of the SEVEN. So the two of you go and investigate.

In the building, Hifumi gets nostalgic about the time you first met, and he possesses you and starts recounting your ye-olde love story. Yeah whatever dude. After he leaves your body, though, he starts to get a splitting headache. He blasts through the door and brings you to safety, and the building disappears.

Next day, ya'll go to the arcade on a date. The arcade's teddy picker happens to have all 7 of your animal-fantasy-creature friends. You find the raven plushie keychain totally adorable, so Hifumi possesses your body (making sure no-one saw it) and helps you to move the crane arm. You successfully pick out the raven, and then you notice two of your classmates on a date here as well. Hifumi starts to get a bit of a youkai-inferiority complex and wonders if you would prefer to date an ordinary human boy.

Just then his splitting headache comes back, and he unexpectedly transforms... into his chibi-raven form. He tries and fails to change back to his human form. People around you are starting to notice, and to avoid attracting attention, you flee the arcade, and he possesses you again to restore his demon energies.

Outside, he reminisces about how the looks that people were giving him in the arcade remind him of way back when he used to live amongst the villagers disguised as a human. On occasion his demonic form would inadvertently slip out, and the villagers gave him such #disapprovinglooks (ಠ_ಠ) ಠ_ಠಠ_ಠಠ_ಠ that it made him feel like a #sadgothraven. He apologises for cutting your date short and walks you home.

(Or I imagine he flies you home, gripping you by his claws while cackling maniacally. Walking is for losers and #humans.)

Late at night, you wake up and find him in your room... Finally!! He has come to murder you in your sleep and offer your virgin blood to his Seiyuu Overlord, Kaji Yuuki, to help Him maintain His eternally boyish voice and looks.

...Or not. But in any case, he turns 'dark' and tells you he wants to test if you've truly accepted him wholeheartedly. He possesses you and suspends you in the air above your bed. Realising that you just went from #otomedrama to #theexorcist, you're scared shitless, and he threatens next time to take you out hovering *outside*.

When he finally leaves your body, you bolt towards the door. He closes in on you and threatens to @!&#^#*!&%*)!&%#!... when he gets his headache attack again and reverts back to normal. He's all disoriented and all like, 'What happened? How did I get here? What year is it???', as you try to approach him timidly, you brave soul. He thinks this is all connected to the old school building somehow, and decides to go back there and get to the bottom of the mystery.

‘Pffft I am MUCH HOTTER than this keychain ok like bitch r u even looking at me!!?!?’

(NB. What’s with that Moomin-looking thing???)

On another rainy night!! You insist on coming with him, armed with your all-powerful... flashlights. As you get in, the door shuts behind you, and a gust of strong wind blows his flashlight out of his hand and into the *abyss of eternity*. You try to hide in the stairwell, but there is a glass explosion, so you go up the stairs to the classrooms for safety.

Now he can be certain that the 'attacker' is after the flashlights - because removing all light sources apparently throws him into his 'dark' mode. Just as he's wondering out loud if the batteries will last... your only remaining flashlight starts flickering. He suddenly realises that *everything is happening just as he predicts*. The flashlight soon dies, and he begs you to escape, but it's too late, as his headache returns and he starts his Jekyll/Hyde transformation again.

You try to hide, but he finds you in seconds. He asks if you are scared of him, and tests you with more broken glass and rips your clothes. But you keep saying no while trembling and looking terrified. Eventually he gets fed up with your continual denial and explains to you what is actually happening:

The truth is, the reappearance of the old school building is a by-product of his insecurities, strengthened by people's rumours and superstitions about the 'vengeful tengu' urban legends. He's constantly afraid that he might hurt you without realising it, and you will eventually grow to become fearful and resentful of him just like all the other humans. Your love is pretty important because, y'know, it's what keeps him existing on this earth.

...As he's threatening to kill you and you're struggling, the raven keychain from the arcade falls out of your pocket. It gets swallowed up by a bottomless pit,... and you dive into the pit to save it. He grabs you and asks you why you would risk your life to save the keychain, and you reply that you treasure it in order to keep him 'alive'.

You promise that you will love him no matter what, and your loyalty finally dispels all his doubts and insecurities. As he is using his powers to help you both escape, light starts to seep in and dissolve the entire building. (And this time it's gone for good.) Everything returns to darkness, but he doesn't go into 'dark' mode anymore. He thanks you for saving him from 'death' before, and now he understands that there is no difference in love when it comes to humans or demons.

[Tokuten]

1. 甘えたがり物の怪とイチャイチャするCD: Hifumi-sama gets a cold and you take him home to rest. In his weakened state he transforms into his chibi-raven form and takes a nap in your bed. When he wakes up (in his normal body), he sees that you have crawled into the bed with him. He tells you about his former life trying to pass as a human amongst the villagers, that he had always wanted someone like you who would accept him unconditionally even in his youkai form. You start to cry, and he teases you to cheer you up, and wants to return you the favour of looking after him.

2. 妖怪が実践♥萌えシチュエーション: After seeing the kabe-don scene in a manga that you are reading, Hifumi decides to test this out on you. It may be doki-doki enough for *you*, but he still prefers to possess you the old-fashioned way, demon-style. Kabe-don Hifumi is more mature and gentle, while toritsukare Hifumi is more child-like and playful and in his element.

[Thoughts] Why do I get the feeling from the Free Talk that KENN didn’t really like 'big reveal’ in the plot? Ofc he didn’t say that outright but I kind of got that impression from his ‘ahhh’ moment of realisation that it didn’t exactly blow him away. Tbh it would’ve been more interesting if there was some external cause. Using Hifumi’s own insecurities as an excuse... reminds me of those pulp psychological thrillers where in the end you find out the murderer is actually one of the ‘good guy’ characters who secretly has a split-personality disorder or sumshit.

THAT SAID, though... the whole Jekyll/Hyde duality is still pretty thrilling nonetheless. I haven’t listened to the other six characters, but from the first disc this series seems more on the ‘sweet’ side, so it was nice to get this bit of ‘edge’ here to balance things out. 

(Although it’s kind of illogical why his ‘dark’ personality is a psycho killer instead of like a jealous possessive control freak or something, which would make more sense coming from a desire to remain on this earth.)

But anyway. Speaking of sweet, I really enjoyed the pillow talk in the Animate tokuten. Hifumi is normally not the most straightforward guy, so it’s always a special treat when he gets personal and reveals his deepest feelings/memories (and without the imminent threat of a building about to collapse on you both lol).

Also, I would love to go grocery shopping with KENN and witness first-hand how excited he can get over the varieties of beans. XD
