They didn't start the chain of events, and if things didn't happen the way they did, they might not even exist. But they do exist. And while they might've set themselves in motion down the hill, they weren't the force who placed them on the precipe.

The feeling of not being in a tragedy, but the tragedy itself. The knife that couldn't be dodged, the gun that had to go off, the results the others thought they were clever enough to escape.

Inevitable, doomed, foretold, and warned of, but it wasn't enough.
