Kaiho is a beautiful word describing the emotion of (touched by sadness) longing in Finnish. It is also the name of one my shapeshifter characters.
And a spruce sprout sparkling drink:

Suho: What are we now?
Suho: Wolves? No.
Suho: Aliens? Whoever ditched that concept give them a tip.
Suho: Monsters?
Suho: Uh? What is that? A gayer version of G.I Joe?!!1
Kai: Hyung, calm down...
Suho: I am calm. I love Lee Soo Man :)

Working on new character with shapeshifter magic be like:
I'm imagining them in their true form...
Guise?
Spring guise?
Human guise?
How'd their magic work again? Ah well I'm imagining them in the lake dancing to song I'm listening to...
[I actually wrote description of Kaiho dancing in the lake, but I liked it so much I'm putting it in the short story/novella]

I still think the Main Character finding her enemy half conscious in her sauna is a fun start to a story.

Need to add the dragonfly pendant to Kai the shapeshifter's story. She wear it as a pendant or pins it onto her clothes, so that people can recognize her regardless of form.

I should write another of Kai's stories. Possibly the one where Mattock the cat goes missing the in the woods.
#Kaiho the Shapeshifter#there's creepy music playing in the background#my brain is going “and the cat saves her from one of the immortal servants of the Big Evil”#that is not what I planned but....

I just realized it's almost been a year since I created Kaiho the shapeshifter. Summer solstice pays a part in her story, but I never realized I created her around this time.
#character#Kaiho the Shapeshifter#Summer Solstice#writing#writing fantasy#shapeshifter#going to wade in a lake and listen her playlist for old times sake

The main character of my current WIP, Kai the shapeshifters wears a dragonfly on her person so that people can recognize her no matter the guise.
She also often wears a length of dark purple fabric. A gift from her, now gone, lover
That's a good enough reason to buy dragonfly earrings with a purple stone? Right?

Most of my characters have mundane origins. Like I had a sentence stuck in my head for days and based a character on those words. I think she gave someone nightmares.
Some just start talking like Kaiho the shapeshifter. I sat on the shore of a lake and watched the waves crash. The only sounds were the wind and two seagulls. I started imagining a character speaking with a faint, wistful voice about she wanted a name fitting the view.
In Darien's case I described a meaningless henchman following on his master's heel. Months later I was listening to a song and I imagined a man in blue coat ascending stairs through darkness. He had his hands held up and in his cupped hands he held his heart as offering the dark. It was such a cool imagine that I wrote a story about him. Looked back at the earlier story and realized it was the same character.

I was trying to draw one of Kaiho the shapeshifter's forms, but she's eluding me. Which is fitting for her in a way

Every time I see a dragonfly: I should write more stories about Kaiho the shapeshifter!

I keep forgetting and remembering the main character of the main stories is a shapeshifter called Kai (her fullname is Kaiho).
The inspiration behind the three characters, that I am aware of, is Norwegian gothic metal and Finnish summer stuff. Go figure.
I think I accidentally have Snow Queen and The Little Mermaid influences in Nestori and Winter stories.
Makes sense. I enjoyed those stories as a kid.

Listening to newest Mortemia song, a cover of What Else is There? originally by Röyksopp, and featuring Zora Cock of Blackbriar.
This song is awesom! I love Zora's voice and need to check out Blackbriar. The rhythm feels good.
And it also nudging the muse. Went waist deep into the near by lake while listening to this song and started imagining Kaiho the shapeshifter of seasons.
I created a character here:
