WEIRD ASK WEDNESDAYS™
I'm back with another question. I hope you doing well.
In your opinion what kind of cake is the best kind of cake? And why? You can show pictures for reference if you want.
-xoxo
this one specific cake a friend gifted me several birthdays ago. it had this fluffy, spongy, angelfoodesque body, but with mini chocolate chips baked in. i do not know how she did it and have not had one before or since.
also--any bundt cake with a boozy glaze. chocolate kahlua cake. glazed double rum cake. amaretto almond cake. god damn, when the sugared-up liquor soaks into the cake and makes this dense, frosty shell on the outside… glazed cakes are the fucking bomb dude.
#any sweet + boozy flavor combo is up there#hot chocolate with kahlua is just mmm <3#or with that hazelnut liquor with the bottle shaped like a monk#monk-ass liqueur#or sweet + coffee#or sweet with a salted top#i'm gonna find a few recipes and make a couple of these myself#decided that just now#weird ask wednesday#ask#ethereal-night-fairy#thank you <3

Bushwacker is a unique blended cocktail that tastes similar to a chocolate milkshake or a chocolate-coconut smoothie. It is prepared with a combination of dark rum, Kahlua coffee liqueur, crème de cacao, coconut cream, milk, and ice. In order to prepare it, all ingredients should be blended, then strained into a hurricane glass. Before serving, Bushwacker is often garnished with whipped cream, nutmeg, and a cherry on top. There are many recipes for this drink, so it can also include other liquors such as vodka and amaretto. It was created at the Ship’s Store (Sapphire Pub) in Sapphire Village, St Thomas, in 1975 by the restaurant manager named Tom Brokamp and a bartender named Angie Conigliaro, who named it after a customer’s dog. src.: https://www.tasteatlas.com/bushwacker

Day 2 of 'Dragon Age: Veilguard' cocktails
Neve’s Winter from Tevinter
recipe and tasting notes under the cut

in a chilled open coupe
2 oz irish cream (i used 5 farms) 1 oz coffee liqueur ( i used kahlua) 1/2 oz iced espresso 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream (like kiwi sized scoops) a fist full of ice cubes
put everything in a blender to just barely smooth, you want some little ice chips
pour in your glass and garnish with a snake of caramel and a few coffee beens
I chewed on my ideas for a while and there is a bit of dialog from harding about iced coffee she saw in tevinter which is described as basically a real dunkin donut’s frozen nightmare and since Neve's diet is already all fast food and bad coffee why WOULDN’T she treat herself to a little chain restaurant mudslide style treat. I dropped the vodka to lower the abv and make space for grocery store cold espresso to up the caffeine which felt right. She’s having fun but she’s ALERT. The caramel sauce is mentioned by harding but also it was fun to draw a little ribbon reminiscent of her ruffles and snakes.
The beans do add a wonderful nose to each sip as a garnish you can crunch em if you a real coffee freak. This is delicious and very easy to drink. it’s really nice in a coupe instead of a big applebee’s punch bowl because by the time you start going ‘eh this is too much’ you are done, drink’s finished. I stand by keeping the ice a lil chunky because it slows you down and gives a fun texture. I’m not going to stop you from ordering a drive-thru fried fish sandwich to enjoy with.

if youre looking into alcohol that tastes a bit better i recomend starting with liqueur in a flavor that you like (some of my favorites are kahlua (coffee), grand marnier (orange) and licor 43 (vanilla)) with a low abv! you can mix them if you still find them a bit too strong but youll find that they taste suuuper good :D AND cocktails are the best balance of tasty to high abv (so. getting drunk)! especially ones like long island iced tea or the zombie BUT those take kind of a lot to make lol. just dont make jungle juice. think about how sad i would be :[ (this rant has been sponsored by autism)
im a whore for a good cocktail ngl but in personally not allowed to mix anything anymore since 'i make everything too strong' pussy excuse ngl its all drinkable
what i cant handle is schnaps. fuck schnaps

today's special little Donnie drink: Doctor pepper, coffee liqueur syrup, and half and half. if I had any/was drinking I'd swap the syrup for Kahlua but I'm not so it's just the syrup flavor. I just call it a dirty doctor, but I'm sure there's better names for it. I think a soda shop I went to called it a boy scout but fuck the boy scouts and also that's a dumb name

The Perfect Affogato For Satisfying Your Sweet Tooth: Mastered
Indeed there are little charms that could contend with the satisfying pour of smooth Italian espresso over rich gelato. The Affogato, meaning "Drowned" in Italian, has been an iconic pillar of the espresso community since the 1950s. While many have enjoyed its authentic yet simple appeal, not everyone has readily available first-class tickets to The Cradle Of The Renaissance. So, therein lies the ultimate question:
"Baron, how do I make the perfect affogato?"
Please, allow me to show you.
The true irony of making a "perfect" version of what may very well be the most simple form of espresso outside of a Caffè Americano is the fact that it really does boil down to personal preference, and while of course many may argue that there is no perfect version of what quite literally is just in many cases a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a reasonably balanced shot of espresso, I have always believed that the devil is most certainly in the details. In simpler terms, we opt to go for gold in such a venture.
First up, and potentially most important, is your beans.
Arabica beans, my personal choice, offer a sweeter, smoother, and overall more consistent brew for what we have in mind when compared to Robusta. If chasing the alcoholic version of the affogato, however, Liberica beans have the potential to bring out the smoky and bold notes of a quality liqueur while simultaneously complimenting the creamy texture of the gelato. A fine ground of either of these options brewed at a stable 94°C (201°F) will produce optimal results. I recommend using an espresso machine for the most consistent brew.
When it comes to your choice of frozen treats, I highly advocate for Italian gelato over vanilla ice cream any day. While the individual eating experiences on their own may seem minute, it would seem in the case of the affogato that standard vanilla ice cream, while still delicious, doesn't quite hold a candle to the depth of flavor that gelato can provide. Gelato is also far denser than ice cream due to its lower fat content which, for our health aficionados, is a wonderful advantage.
Finally, we arrive at the most exciting aspect of developing this beautifully balanced concoction of Italian ingenuity: Assembly.
The affogato, like many espresso works, prides itself in its immaculate presentation, and while we may be lounging around our homes in pajamas, who says we aren't allowed to feel like we're sitting in a small Venetian coffee shop, awaiting the finest consumable craft to artistic in nature that it feels nearly criminal to take a bite.
First, help yourself to a generous serving of gelato, using a ratio of approximately one large scoop to one shot of your freshly brewed espresso, as I'd recommend having this done shortly before brewing so that your espresso can be transferred into your glass, mug, or dish of choice as freshly made as possible. Try to keep your scoops round, as this will make them easier to measure while maintaining the iconic image of our dessert.
Now, pour your fresh espresso over the gelato, aiming to smother the scoop or scoops on all sides to infuse each spoonful with the perfect blend of both coffee and cream.
If you've chosen the alcoholic affogato, now would be the time to add a half shot of your liqueur of choice. I favor Amaretto, as its sweet and nutty notes complement the already consistently Italian cocktail to its fullest potential. Otherwise, you can choose something more in line with the "dessert" aspect of this drink, such as Kahlua, Irish Cream, or even a sweet Bourbon.
For an even deeper look into the science behind what makes an incredible affogato, I'd highly recommend James Hoffman's video linked here, where he experimented and crafted an affogato of his own, utilizing his own ice cream for the task.
youtube
We've harnessed the essentials, and at its core, what we see now is by definition an authentic affogato. I argue, however, why stop there? We see here a dish with class and elegance that can be added to with ease, so why not add a swirl of whipped cream, along with a dark chocolate drizzle? One could even add shaved chocolate to melt at the bottom of the glass for a more mocha-styled twist. Add a side of biscotti for a textured blend brewed to die for. As I've mentioned before, it all comes down to preference, so I encourage you to proudly play into the flare this drink allows for and make it your own!
We, after all, aim for a brew worthy of royals.

Heat the cart in a small container of boiling water (careful not to let it spill!) and pour it in with the tea (loose leaf or bagged) as the same time. Depending on cart type you may need to try removing the top so the melted liquid goes in
Pot Brownies: [Here] is a short and easy recipe for pot brownies using instant mix, but [This] is a more complex one with an addition link to a cannabis butter example
Cannabis Oil: [This] is a fairly easy canna oil recipe which can then be added into other recipes (cooking, baking, etc.)
*Tea made normally but with added marijuana leaves are not recommended as the binding effect of THC is not active and it will be extremely bitter due to high temperatures
Misc.:
Candy flipping: LSD & molly at the same time, proportions vary
Cross-fading: marijuana and alcohol at the same time, proportions vary
Blue Honey: [Here] and [Here] are two different articles about making blue honey! This is psilocybin mushroom infused honey which can then be used on its own, as a topping, or added into drinks
Mushroom Mayhem: [Here] is a list of information about cooking with shrooms, how to do it safely, and potential recipes you can make
