The aliens’ language is difficult, not in the least for the odd way their voices work, but Kara listens to Ma and Pa speak as carefully as she can and repeats everything they make a point of telling her. Their names, and their words for certain things–“breakfast” is the morning meal, and then the midday meal is “lunch” and the evening meal is “supper”. They don’t have an afternoon meal, but sometimes there’s “snack”, which comes right before bed. They have inorganic lighting in their home, but typically sleep when the sun sets and wake up when it rises, which makes sense for Laborers, she supposes. 

Kal takes his little stuffed dog everywhere he goes, and Kara takes him everywhere she goes. Ma and Pa give her a sling so she can carry him on her back while she works, though they don’t ask her to do very much work. She has to press for more, usually, or just follow them around and help wherever she can. She assumes they think she’s more frail than she is, after the crash, but honestly, being out in the sun and doing work is the best she’s felt since her parents pushed her into her ship. She’s heard how things like chores and physical labor can distract someone from grief, but it’s even more effective than she expected. 

So of course she keeps doing it.

i have so many mixed feelings about mass effect revelations bc like…. Is it full of detailed world building? yes! Do we get to know Anderson intimately as a person and his background with Kahlee and Saren? also yes. Does aforementioned Kahlee also take magical pigment pills that temporarily make her skin as dark as Andersons? ………. yeah. Are women and their appearances described a little too much? you know it. Are said female characters actually badass? thankfully yes. Do we learn how fully unhinged, terrifying, and psychopathic Saren is? double yes. Does the book go just a little too into detail about torture and gore? oh yeah. Does it kinda have a romance thing that ends really reasonably bc the characters are grown adults? thank god yes.

have I read it cover to cover 5 times? absolutely

I read the first three mass effect books and made two discoveries:

Saren is written to near cartoonish levels of evil

Kai Leng is actually not a dumpster fire of cringe

It's important to note that the incident with Anderson's cereal doesn't happen until the fourth book, which I have not read yet.

And I'm not saying Leng isn't cringe at all, but I was surprised that he actually felt like much more of a real character than in the games. He also has an ourborous tattoo on the back of his neck that's mentioned like 4748387 times, he dyes his hair blonde to disguise himself on omega, and he and his team sneak into a gated community by saying "we gotta go see our friend, it's his birthday and we're throwing a surprise party" and it actually works lmao

Confession: We all know Kahlee Sanders and David Anderson fucked in that hot tub. And I would have loved to watch them fuck in that hot tub, while Garrus is fucking me in there too.

I'm planning it to be a slowburn of Jack finally accepting that shes in love with Kahlee during her time in Grissom Academy. Kahlee helps Jack deal with the trauma that shes carried all her life and gives Jack enough space so that she can move on her own terms, and things start to blossom between them from there :)

“Didn’t know you were here” Jack said as pulled her clothes from the locker.

“It's fine. I’m almost done. How was your day? Kids gave you too much trouble?”

“Nah, it was alright. Eric was being a smartass and getting on my nerves as always, but nothing new under the suns. There was this… uhm…”

Jack’s words dissolved into silence as she saw Kahlee stepping out of the shower with only a towel on, tying up her hair as she walked towards the mirrour. Jack did her best to try to look away, and pretend her eyes weren’t tracing the few drops of water going down Sander’s skin.

“There was a what?”

“What?” Jack replied, snapping back to reality.

“You were saying that “there was something”. You feel alright, Jack?”
