Elektrisch motorrijden een optie?

De afgelopen tijd heb ik regelmatig gesprekken gehad met voornamelijk woon-werk motorrijders over elektrische motorfietsen. Deze groep motorrijders is minder gehecht aan de ‘motor-rij beleving’ van verbrandingsmotoren en zien de voordelen van een stekkermachine. De elektrische auto’s zijn immers een succes en ook de fietsen met een accupack zijn niet aan te slepen. Is er al een serieuze motor waar ik op woon-werk kan rijden? Het aanbod is sowieso minimaal, zo af en toe wordt er in motornieuwsberichten wat getest maar als je nu op zoek gaat vind je gewoon erg weinig. De beschikbare modellen heb ik op een rijtje gezet kijk voor jezelf maar of elektrisch motorrijden realistisch is.

Hulpladers, snelladers, krachtiger accupakket, powerpacks zijn veelal als optie los verkrijgbaar. Niet goedkoop en niet meegenomen in dit overzicht. Deze opties hebben invloed op actieradius en laadtijd. De garantie op de accupakketten verschilt per merk tussen de 3 en 5 jaar of een max. aantal kilometer.

Woon-werk geschikt

Wat is er belangrijk voor een woon-werk motor? Een beetje windbescherming, minimaal een windschermpje voor de neus zou lekker zijn. De topsnelheid voor op de snelweg moet toch wel ruim boven de 130km/h liggen wil je niet van de weg gedrukt worden door vrachtwagens. Over acceleratie hoef je je bij een electro-motor nooit zorgen te maken, koppel genoeg. Ga je het uitlaatgeluid missen? Soms, het is wel handig als automobilisten in de file horen dat je er tussendoor komt, hoewel de meeste rijders de radio aanhebben of alleen aandacht voor hun mobiel. Ruimte om wat spullen op te bergen kun je altijd nog in een Givi topkoffer, maar ik zie nog geen bodemplaten voor deze motoren beschikbaar…

Offroad

In de offroad motor markt lijkt de elektrische motor wel al meer aan het doordringen. Het aanbod is breder en KTM heeft met de Freeride al enkele jaren een goed modellen op de markt. de topsnelheid van deze motoren is zeer gering en na ~3 kwartier moet je gaan stekkeren. Je kunt in Amsterdam zelf gemakkelijk een middag elektrisch crossen.

MotoE

Misschien zegt het afgelopen jaar gestarte FIM MotoE (elektrische MotoGP) het al, de wedstrijden zijn spannend, close racing met goede rijders en hoge snelheden maar wordt verreden over hooguit 10 rondes. De accu-packs kunnen niet langer mee dan dit aantal. Wel goed dat deze klasse van start is gegaan, dit zal de ontwikkeling een enorme boost geven.

Kom je tot de conclusie dat een motor met een stekker nog niet voor jou geschikt is? Kijk dan gewoon tussen onze occasions! Hier hebben we wel veel keus en geen actieradius-stress.

Bij de motoren van Zero zit al wat potentie maar nog niet voldoende om een grotere groep rijders over de streep te trekken. Volgens mij is het wachten op de eerste grote fabrikant die met een accufiets op de markt komt die net wat meer boxjes afvinkt dan het huidige aanbod. Het voorbeeld Tesla zegt genoeg denk ik.

KTM unveiled its most comprehensive, innovative and extreme range, when it presented five new motorcycles at the EICMA show in Milan (Tuesday, November 6).

Leading its 2019 line-up is the eagerly anticipated KTM 790 ADVENTURE and KTM 790 ADVENTURE R. “You spoke, we listened.” KTM is a riders’ company and these all-new models are a direct result of customer feedback mixed with the brand’s experience and expertise. Punching way above their cubic capacities, KTM set new performance and offroad ability benchmarks in the mid-capacity travel enduro market.

The KTM 790 ADVENTURE is for travel enduro fans of every ambition and ability, ready to discover new roads – no matter surface. The KTM 790 ADVENTURE R is a lightweight, agile and technically advanced machine for adventurers that endeavour to challenge themselves while tackling tricky terrain. Both powered by the 799cc LC8c parallel twin – first seen in the KTM 790 DUKE – the engine has been tuned to deliver its torque lower down the rev range to fit the specific requirements of adventure riding. The result is smooth acceleration, plentiful performance and a 450 km range from a 20 litre tank.

Each of these rugged bikes have been developed by some of the best adventure riders in the world, in conjunction with the Red Bull KTM Rally Factory Racing Team. They provide a confidence-inspiring chassis with a low centre of gravity and riding ergonomics to suit riders of all size and spirit. A full suite of rider assistance systems; easily navigated and activated with a bar-mounted menu switch, aligned to a full colour TFT display, allow the adventurous to get the most from these machines.

Also in the KTM Travel Enduro range, the incredible KTM 1290 SUPER ADVENTURE S and KTM 1290 SUPER ADVENTURE R receive new colours and graphics to keep these exciting machines looking as sharp and bold as they perform.

Rebooting supermoto for the road, the KTM 690 SMC R returns in 2019 and takes the KTM READY TO RACE approach to the street; lightweight, agile, addictive single-cylinder punch, premium chassis components and now backed up by leading performance-enhancing electronic package.

Powering the KTM 690 SMC R is the latest generation LC4 engine; the world’s most powerful production single-cylinder engine delivers 74 hp and 73.5 Nm of torque. Getting the most from this performance in all situations is a suite of rider assistance systems. Two ride modes – Street and Sport – cornering ABS, lean angle-sensitive motorcycle traction control (MTC), motor slip regulation (MSR) and Quickshifter+, are new to the game, sitting alongside the familiar Supermoto ABS mode aiding rear slides with front-end confidence. All this is packaged in an updated chassis and new subframe, supported by the latest generation fully-adjustable WP APEX suspension and wrapped in slimmer, sharper bodywork with a 1.5 litre bigger fuel tank.

The new KTM 690 ENDURO R is perfectly positioned to connect tarmac and trails, benefitting from the same engine, electronics and chassis improvements made to its sliding Supermoto sibling, but in a platform completely focused on offroad.

Under the new seat and fresh bodywork, which is sharpened for both style and movement on the bike, is an all-new chassis with WP XPLOR suspension derived from KTM’s world-winning EXC models. Designed to be confidence inspiring, it is ready to tackle everything from easy trails to extreme offroad obstacles, as well as being a competent every day street bike.

The newly developed KTM SX-E 5 is the next step in KTM’s innovative line-up. Combining class-leading knowledge in youth motorcycling with years of development work in the e-sector, the KTM SX-E 5 is based on the incredibly popular 2-stroke KTM 50 SX with a high-end chassis powered by an electric motor. The mission was clear: to create an ultra-competitive machine that is easy to ride, even for pure beginners.

The KTM SX-E 5 enjoys the advantage of zero emissions, low noise and minimal maintenance, which makes it ideal for youngsters looking to make the first step into the world of motorcycling. Thanks to its dynamic design, it is ideal for the growing rider with an adjustable seat height.

The KTM PowerPack can provide more than two hours of riding for a beginner, or 25 minutes for the faster junior racers. Doors open to the MCN London Motorcycle Show from February 16-18 and KTM will be there with a large display of its 2018 range – including the all-new KTM 790 DUKE – along with a selection of KTM Factory Racing machines.

The annual show, held at ExCeL in the East London Docklands area, marks the eve of the ‘traditional’ Street riding season, making it the perfect opportunity to get up close and behind the bars of the exciting 2018 KTM range.

Due to arrive at UK dealers in late March, the completely new KTM 790 DUKE (£8,499) is set to inject fresh levels of excitement, technology and style into the naked middleweight market. Powered by the new 799cc LC8c parallel twin engine – punching out 105hp and 86nm – the new Duke is also armed with the most comprehensive array of electronic rider systems, including cornering ABS, lean-angle sensitive Motorcycle Traction Control (MTC) along with four different ride modes; a Quickshifter+ system, Launch Control and KTM MY RIDE smart phone connectivity.

The infamous 1290 SUPER DUKE R (£14,299) received a massive overhaul last year and The Beast 2.0 is arguably the benchmark for performance and electronics systems in the super naked class. With street presence like no other, its distinctive and aggressive appearance is matched by relentless power – incredibly addictive for those who are Beast Enough…

Taking The Beast further and faster is the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE GT (£15,999). Redefining the sports tourer class, this bike masters the seemingly impossible split between passionate fun riding, comfortable long distance travelling and breath-taking track day use. For 2018, it gets two new colours and graphics options.

Starting from £11,599 to £14,899, the four-strong KTM Adventure range presents riders with a choice of high-performance, heart-racing machines capable of creating unforgettable memories wherever and however the road leads. The 1090 ADVENTURE, 1090 ADVENTURE R, 1290 SUPER ADVENTURE R and 1290 SUPER ADVENTURE S are always ready and backed up with a huge array of official PowerParts to be tailored to individual needs.

Boasting new graphics for 2018, the 690 DUKE (£7,999) is the world’s most powerful single-cylinder bike with a revised motor to offer improved levels of power and torque over a larger powerband delivered with smoothness usually reserved for multi-cylinders. KTM UK will be at Motorcycle Live in full force with the chance to see the 2018 collection for the first time, test ride highlights from the current range, have the chance to get up close to KTM Factory Racing machines, meet MotoGP rider Bradley Smith* and also have the chance to win prizes – including the all-new KTM 790 DUKE. Beginning at Birmingham’s NEC on Saturday November 18, Motorcycle Live is the UK largest motorcycle show and runs for nine days, concluding on Sunday November 26.

NEW KTM METAL The main KTM stand (Hall 3, Stand 3D20) will be the first place to see the 2018 range in the UK for the first time. More diverse than ever with a comprehensive collection of naked, supersports, adventure, sports touring and off-road machines, the all-new KTM 790 DUKE and KTM FREERIDE 250 F take centre stage as all-new models for the new year.

The KTM 790 DUKE is set to inject new levels of excitement, technology and style into the naked middleweight market. Inheriting power and panache from its big, beastly brother, the KTM 1290 SUPER DUKE R, the 790 DUKE is the proud possessor of a new 799cc parallel twin motor that is a guaranteed adrenaline raiser. Dubbed ‘The Scalpel’, the lithe chassis and state of the art technology combine to deliver agility and accuracy not yet seen in its class. Lean-angle sensitive Motorcycle Traction Control (MTC), Cornering ABS, a Quickshifter+ system and Launch Control are all standard features on a machine that looks anything but standard.

The Freeride range also sees big changes for 2018. The FREERIDE 250 F is a completely new model, replacing the 350cc four-stroke and 250cc two-stroke machines of before. With the ability to explore demanding and unknown off-road terrain, while performing with low noise levels and a confidence-inspiring power delivery combined with a comfortable, low seat height and weighing just 99kg, this bike is the ultimate all-rounder for fun trails, Trials and Enduro.

The powerful and agile electric KTM FREERIDE E-XC is also now even better. Powered by a state-of-the-art electric motor with a peak of 18 kW fitted into a re-designed composite frame, updated WP Suspension and a 50% increased KTM PowerPack that now provides one and a half hours of riding time.

RIDE KTM Highlights from the 2017 KTM Street range will be available for free demo rides in three different areas of the show. In the TEST RIDE ZONE, showgoers can sign up for a ride on either the 690 DUKE, 1090 ADVENTURE, 1290 SUPER ADVENTURE S, 1290 SUPER DUKE GT or ‘The Beast’ 1290 SUPER DUKE R for a ride around the surrounding roads to the show.

In the EXPERIENCE ADVENTURE, the 1090 ADVENTURE R and 1290 SUPER ADVENTURE R await riders to introduce them to their first taste of adventure riding which will include tuition, on bike set-up, body positioning and balance across a number of testing terrains.

The Get On TWO WHEEL TASTER is open to people aged 14 and over who are thinking of taking up or returning to riding motorcycles and gives them a 20 minute motorcycle lessons with a professional instructor and provide protective clothing too on either the new KTM 125 DUKE or KTM RC 125.

RACE MACHINES The KTM READY TO RACE feature (Hall 3, Stand 3D10) will allow visitors to get up and close to some of KTM’s Factory race machines. For Grand Prix fans, the KTM RC 16 MotoGP will be flanked by the race-winning Moto2 and Moto3 bikes, along with a Red Bull Rookies Cup bikes. Also, Enduro star Jonny Walker’s KTM 300 EXC, Sam Sunderland’s new 450 Rally and Antonio Cairoli’s MXGP-winning KTM 450 SX-F. Red Bull KTM MotoGP rider, Bradley Smith, will also be in attendance on Saturday November 18, signing autographs on the KTM stand and taking part in activities and a Q&A session on the main stage.

WIN WITH KTM As well as the chance to win a new KTM 790 DUKE by visiting the show’s website, each day on the Black Horse Stage, the KTM ADVENTURE TRAVEL PACK competition will give show visitors the opportunity to compete for prizes in a crazy challenge that sees them race to pack as many items into a 1290 SUPER ADVENTURE S – but there’s a twist. Set the benchmark time on Saturday November 18 will be Red Bull KTM Factory Racing MotoGP rider, Bradley Smith.
