I am fucking exhausted! Have checked out and now have the looooooooong wait at the airport to head home. Everyone in the KL office was giving advice on all the tourist things I could go and do to fill my day today. I didn’t have the heart to say I’m just plain fucking exhausted and the thought of battling taxis and crowds and heat and humidity is just all to hard. I’ve found a quiet spot and I’m going to read my book for the next few hours in solitude! And I may even have some sneaky maccas , if it’s in an airport it doesn’t rally count!!!

I did get one compliment last night from my new DevOps lead, Jeff. At the end of the two days planning, everyone had to sun up how they felt. The was some excited, yet apprehensive, a few honest I’m scared and overwhelmed, one fuck yeah and me. So I said fucking love the big picture, problem space…but there’s still a little part of me that is scared I’ll be the weakest link in the leadership group and let the team down, the whole imposter syndrome.

Anyway, over beers last night Jeff out of the blue was like (said in an American accent but with overlays of many years in Germany, the uk and several other international destinations, definitely a weird twang!!) “So this whole imposter syndrome thing, you could go on holidays for the next 12 months, you’ve given our teams the clearest direction of where we need to go and roadmap to get there, that is the single most valuable thing from the last two days.”

Quite frankly, he’s lucky I didn’t burst into tears all over him! I do get that leadership is a thankless role but fuck me, it’s nice when at least one person recognises the value and effort that goes into something you deliver! Anyway, we spent the evening drinking cold to warm beers and yapping all things travel! There really is nothing like in-person interactions to build strong relationships and trust. Same for my other engineers! So surly and grim online, warm and funny in person! I feel like I’m banking good-will for the debates and rumbles that will inevitably arise now I’ve launched the start of our transformation to a product lead company.

Oh, and I have an ally in Jeff for my three year transformation plan, he also has an ally in me in his plans to get rid of QA!! Hahahaha!!

It's been a few weeks guys.

Quick update. Got myself tested for HIV. Thankfully the result came back negative.

Jittery and I was completely worried of what the result will be. The last time I tested myself was back in 2016, for a job that I applied.

In retrospect, that was completely unlawful. There are anti-discriminatory laws against disclosing these kinds of information, no?

Anywho, a close friend of mine actually asked me to lend them some money. It took me few minutes to convince myself that this would not bite me back in the ass in the future. But given the history I have had with this friend, I was willing to risk it.

On a completely different topic, I am finally going back to office. It's a swanky looking little office space in the middle of KL city. Taking the train seem to be the best option for now; although I might consider driving a few days a month just for the fun of it.

Hey, I'm 30 years and 5 months today! Quite an achievement for someone who didn't plan to make a living as an accountant eh?
