Monkey Business
Author: LeDavid Dwight
Book: 1/1
Genre: sci-fi thriller, animal genetics thriller
Summary: David Nsengiyumva, an NYU accounting student and writer, travels to Kigali, Rawanda, in exploration of his family roots. As a new employee working for Elysimia, David discovers the company’s dark secrets and the reason for its immense profits. The Kigali police want him arrested for trying to report Elysimia’s operations, and Elysimia will do anything to keep their secrets hidden. Trapped inside Elysimia, David must take down the company from the inside- or die trying.
Review: This book was incredible, and even more impressive being written by a young author. This book easily outshines many works written by more mature authors, and I’m stating this because I firmly believe it, not just because the author is someone I know. I began this book with an open mind and without knowing anything about it, and the story exceeded my expectations. Dwight’s writing is clear, well-structured, and perfectly paced. There were never any slow points, the build-up to the plot was perfect, and the twists within the plot surprised me and added greater intensity and interest. The motif of animal rights is clearly expressed throughout the book, and the story was so enthralling that I forgot Dwight was teaching me something. David, the main character, is also written with intention and developed throughout the story. Though the book carried a heavy subject, our protagonist was never an afterthought. As a Christian, I loved that David prays about his situation and asks God for guidance; He is the inverse of the antagonist who uses religion to justify his malicious actions and I loved the contrasts between the two characters. This book was impossible to put down and was a quick read; while it teaches readers about animal rights, it also tells an amazing story. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in science fiction, animal rights, and a thrilling story.
