In truth, these claims are so farfetched, so outlandish, Emmett has half a mind to dig his heels in and demand to know which one of his colleagues put her up to this as a way to get back at him for his recent (re)obsession. He has been none too shy about sharing it, to the amusement of some and the disdain of others.

But something stops him. The look on her face; the way she seems to fight with herself just to sit here and keep herself from saying anything else. The nervous energy radiating off her could power half the electronics in the room. Whether he truly believes these claims right now is irrelevant—he's a dreamer, not a fool—when she believes what she says wholeheartedly.

If these wild claims turn out to be true—

Emmett lets out a long-suffering sigh and sinks back into the chair in his office, sceptical but willing to play along, and rakes a hand through his red hair.
