Season 1 Episode 1: Human Flesh
I've seen this episode so many times and it never gets old. I don't remember how I felt watching it the first time, but I always enjoy it as if I am looking back at old home movies. The nostalgia I get from the opening credits music to the animation is so amazing. Every time I see a clip of this ep I have to rewatch it it's just so funny. This pilot episode has got to be one of my top 5 as far as pilots go.
P.F.E.T.A
Rat's All Folks! Exterminators
Not even a minute in and we have the infamous "my crotch is itchy :-/" scene from BB. Already in under five minutes the show manages to capture how goofy and close this family is. I also really miss the face zoom ins with the background music to go with it lmao.
First and only time I can recall Bob calling Linda baby and its so cute.
Burger of the day: "New bacon-ings" comes with bacon?
NO.
The Ch*ld Mol*ster comes with candy?
YEA
MY FIRST TIME NOTICING LOUISE THRUSTING IN THE AIR WHEN SHE TELLS HUGO BOB N LINDA ARE IN THE BASEMENT GRINDING THE MEAT 😭😭😭
ah yes the autism toothpick scene. Took over tiktok for a bit and people complained saying "tHe OtHeR sEaSoNs ArEn'T aS gOoD" just cause they're different doesn't mean it isn't good OKAY!
Gene looks so cute in his little burger fit. 🫶🏼 I love the way Mort yanks Gene into the building after delivering his food. Then he deliver's that dead body with a bow to the restaurant's front door.
When Bob goes out to confront Hugo and Ron in their van then grabs Hugo is so funny. That's one thing I wish was a bit more consistent, I love when Bob has his deranged moments lol. But I get it he's a tired old man! Helping Hugo get out of the spot is too real. I don't know how to parallel park. I barely know how to drive. Took me three tries to pass my driver's test. I fell victim to the California roll 😔🤚. Every time I'm driving someone around I always make them park for me so I get it.
Bob talking to himself into the reflection of the window is so fucking funny. My favorite scene in the episode.
Overall I give this episode a 8.5/10. I do wanna establish now that my favorite types of episodes are the emotional ones that make me feel like I swallowed the sun. These funny ones are a close second though. This episode perfectly sets up the wholesome but crackhead family dynamic shown throughout the rest of the show and really gets your attention. One of the reasons I find it so hard to start new shows is because it starts out so SLOW but this is a cute lil episode that has too many iconic moments to just have it as background noise. Seeing Bob and Linda on the ferris wheel makes me so excited to start a family and grow old w my man 🥹 they are such couple goals AND parent goals.

WOW okay this has been sitting in my drafts forever but I just rented the next few episodes from the DVD store and I'm ready to CONTINUE THE SERIES WITH THE EVER ICONIC:
episode 8: ice
or as I call it, the puffy jackets episode
okay so, before we even get into it, this has absolutely got to be The Thing inspired right? there's a dog wandering through the wreckage of a remote research outpost... "we are not who we are..." like??? the first time I watched 10 years ago I had not seen The Thing but now I have and I feel like a dummy for not making this connection sooner lol
the repetition of the cut to the exact same snowy exterior shot over and over again got me
okay omg this small plane pilot named Bear... from my brief experience up in Alaska with flying on one of these tiny planes this is 100% accurate. my pilot was also just some dude who didn't give a fuck
okay I'm also currently watching The Walking Dead for the first time and frickin this actor is GREGORY the worst guy I was like why is just his face putting me off rn. to be fair his character in this episode is also kind of a shit bag
okay aaaaaaaaaaaaand of course we all know the STRIPPING, the INTIMATE TRUST AND BELIEF in each other OOOOOWWWWEEEEE. truly an iconic moment. them against the world. Scully standing up for Mulder against the mistrust of another logical, medical mind, feels like a metaphor for the conflict within her own mind between her logic and her blossoming and deepening trust and belief in Mulder, externalized into and represented by Mr Gregory doctor whatever his name is.... truly a brilliant episode
episode 9: space
I remember absolutely nothing about this episode... they look so damn cute in that little golf cart scooting around mission control
honestly this episode's biggest win for me is the dope cgi mars creature face phasing in and out of existence. we get to see Mulder being pretty sweet towards the mission control lady but overall not the most standout ep
episode 10: fallen angels
max the NICAP tin can RV ufo nut says "trust no one" ummmmmmmmmmmm so are we meant to believe this is a commonly traded ufo enthusiast phrase?
god I fucking love Scully.... "where do I scrub up" no hesitation she's such a boss
overall a frustrating episode imo, I'm realizing through this rewatch so far I'm mostly into the monster of the week episodes and as soon as we start encountering standoffish government and military personnel I begin to check out. this may be a controversial opinion or even feel like a contradiction to the overall spirit and ethos of the show but that's just how I'm feeling so far... we shall see
#x files rewatch 2023#at this pace im goijg to have to change it to 2024 lmfao#episode 8: ice#episode 9: space#episode 10: fallen angels#txf#x files#the x files

what makes you think the writers want deancas? not trying to be an asshole, i'm just genuinely curious as to why you think that. i know berens' episodes are pretty heavy with subtext so i can see why you'd say that he wants it, but i'm not so sure about the rest of the writers/dabb. it seems like meghan isn't a huge fan either, given her "they twisted it so fast" tweet :/ of course she's a very new writer (think she's only writing one ep this season?) but still
OKAY this is a great question, welcome to my dissertation.
I’m going to address the end of your question first. Meghan is actually DeanCas positive, she has been for quite a long time. She actually, a few years back, posted a picture of her reading a literal book about Destiel and captioned it “writing reading” or something like that.
This whole thing just comes out of a boiling over of tensions because of how nasty fandom twitter can be. Like I said here, I think this has just gotten blown out of proportion, they shouldn’t have posted all this randomly disparaging stuff, but also like...can you blame them? The fandom is a lot, we always have been, and they’re probably also under a gag order not to talk about the finale, and are annoyed that people keep asking.
So nah, Meg is not anti Destiel.
To the first part!! So let’s take a look at the show runners since Cas has been around.
Seasons 4 and 5: Kripke
Seasons 6 and 7: Gamble
Seasons 8-11ish: Carver
Seasons 11ish-15: Dabb
So starting with Kripke. Okay, yes, I will be the first to admit that we have some pretty incredible Destiel moments in these seasons, but it’s less directly written into the plot and much more from Misha and Jensen’s uhhhh ~chemistry~. The only times it was directly written into the script was when the episode was handled by someone like Edlund (“On The Head Of A Pin,” “The End,” “My Bloody Valentine”). And you have to remember, if in season 5, there are moments here and there where you’re like huh that’s suspiciously romantic dialogue, remember that Cas took Anna’s place. Anna was supposed to be endgame for Dean, but due to a myriad of issues and Misha’s general greatness, Anna was replaced with Cas.
Onto 6 and 7. Hmmm. Gamble. 6 and 7 are my two least favorite seasons and that’s no secret, and that’s not only due to the plain old weird shit in the overall storyline, but also that homegirl killed off Cas in s7 and then Bobby like four episodes later. (Also it ALWAYS rubbed me the wrong way they couldn’t have Baby in that season lol). We still had some great DeanCas moments, but again, it wasn’t really written into the overall arc (until they had to change the end of season 7 because of tanking ratings and bring Misha back lol, anyone remember the fact that Dean kept Cas’ jacket and would randomly dream of him? Yeah.). But we still had those moments, those distinctly romantic moments, probably the best example in these two seasons is from Edlund again, specifically “The Man Who Would be King,” I wrote a little about that here.
We move onto Carver, who gave us, at this point, the most overt DeanCas season with season 8 (season gr8 is a better name imo), and this is the first time Dean and Cas’ relationship is directly written as an arc of the season. I mean, you have everything in Purgatory, Dean “seeing” Cas everywhere, the fact that he felt so guilty that Cas stayed in Purgatory that he manipulated his own memories to think that he was the one that failed Cas, because he couldn’t comprehend that Cas would want to leave him, and let’s not forget Dean snapping Cas out of Naomi’s hold on him in “Goodbye Stranger.” It was a very obvious shift, not enough to alert the general audience, but more than enough for most of us in fandom.
It’s also important to note that this is when Andrew stopped co writing with Loflin and started writing his own episodes (”Hunter Heroici” anyone?) I like Loflin fine, but Dabb was able to stretch his legs a little bit more once he stopped co-writing, and we also began to see some DeanCas themes in his solo episodes.
In any case, them and their issues being a big part of the seasons continued with Carver, and Berens entered the scene, his first episode (”Heaven Can’t Wait”) is one of my favorites, with human Cas and the fanfiction gap and Dean and Cas just generally being awkward and funny and sweet. This is Bobo’s FIRST episode, remember that. He comes right out of the gate with it.
Also in Season 9, this is when Dean takes the Mark of Cain, and the Cas/Colette mirror is born, so obviously, Dean and Cas are the fabric of the season once again. This is also the season where Metatron says Cas is “in love with humanity,” and then immediately refers to Dean as Humanity so uhhhh yeah.
Onto season 10, Dabb and Berens continue with their greatness (I could write pages on the DeanCas date in “The Things We Left Behind” alone). And then we have one of the best scenes in the entire show in “The Prisoner” where the Cas/Colette mirror continues and Dean, driven by grief and pain and rage and the Mark, still doesn’t kill Cas. He still can’t kill Cas.
Season 11 is important because it takes choice away from both Cas and Dean, and shows us, as the audience, how much losing each other takes out of them. We saw in season 10 how much losing Dean takes from Cas, but what about Cas losing Dean? Dean loses his choice with his connection to Amara this season, and loses even more when Lucifer reveals he’s been possessing Cas, and plays on Dean’s connection to Cas like a mockery. It’s also worth noting that, similarly to season 8, Dean breaks out of the connection with Amara when he’s worried about Cas, and that’s something that even SHE is surprised by.
But then season 12, the beginning to the Renaissance. This is when we get the writer’s that become important for what Dean and Cas are today, and, truly, why I believe they want canon Destiel as much as we do.
This is the first season with Dabb’s writers: Davy Perez, Meredith Glynn, Steve Yockey, and of course Bobo all come in with their incredible talents and gave us episode after episode of good content. “Lily Sunder Has Some Regrets” is probably my favorite, probably the best example of what I’m saying. An episode where Dean is called out by an enemy directly, told to “roll the dice” on Cas’ life. And Dean won’t, it’s not even really a hesitation. And this comes from a character that has known Dean for ten seconds. I also wrote more in depth about this episode here. There are also some.....distinctly domestic details we get this season, specifically in “The Future” (written by Berens and Glynn) with the mixtape. The most tropey of tropes mixtape. Yeah, I’ll just leave that one here.
And then season 12 ends with Cas’ death, but also with the parallel between Sam and Dean with Jess and Cas. Sam literally has to drag Dean away from Cas, just like Dean had to drag Sam out of his burning apartment in the pilot. The episode drives it home in every way that it can: Dean is the one left kneeling by Cas’ body, while Sam goes to find out what is upstairs. Dean is the one who stares at the sky, finally broken. This isn’t a random thing, this is Dean’s whole arc, it’s the entirety of the beginning of 13. Dean’s pain, his anguish, his anger.
Season 13 starts with them burning Cas, with Dean, who has begged God to bring him back, who has split his knuckles punching a door, standing, staring at Cas’ pyre with brokenness on his face.
I mean.....
Anyway, season 13 is where it gets interesting (well, I think all of this is interesting but I’m a writer nerd so). So Cas comes back from the Empty in “Advanced Thanatology” written by Steve Yockey, and then a wombo combo of “Tombstone” by Davy Perez next (”Brokebacknatural” as the PR said at the time). Listen. This is the part that SPN crossed a line that they couldn’t come back from. With Cas being Dean’s “big win,” the fact that Dean and Cas watch movies together, “I told you, he’s an angry sleeper. Like a bear.” Talked about it here.
This is where, in my opinion, the network stepped in, but the damage was already done. They had already established that Cas was Dean’s big win, that Dean’s poor coping was not due to Mary’s disappearance, but solely due to Cas, and that Dean and Cas have more married energy than anyone else. The network had nixed blatant canon at this point, and they writing room had been pushing the boundaries of what the network would allow.
After these episodes, we see a marked drop off of DeanCas heavy scenes. They’re still there, still a part of the fabric of the season, but not as...obvious as it had been in early season 13.
And this continued through season 14, we’re back to scraps of Destiel scenes here and there, but to me it always felt like there was something bubbling under the surface, something distinctly unsaid in the themes of the season, even after the walk back of obvious “Dean and Cas are in love” scenes.
And then we get to season 15, which, y’all know I talk about all the time. What’s important here is that Bobo and Glynn are both executive producers, calling more of the shots than ever before. Additionally, it’s important to note that, though they only co write occasionally, Glynn and Berens refer to each other as “work husband” and “work wife.” Each episode has just turned up the volume, and, not for the first time, but certainly the most obvious, Dean and Cas ARE the season. Sure, they’re trying to beat God, they’re trying to finally find peace, defeat the final big bad, but really? This season has been about Dean, and Dean’s relationship to Cas.
And not only do we have obvious and clear Destiel in nearly every episode, but we have episodes like “Last Call” which canonize bi!Dean (wrote about that here).
And, maybe most importantly so far, we have “The Rupture,” the breakup, and “The Trap,” Dean’s confession (both written by Berens). And here’s the thing. These episodes feel connected, but also feel like they’re missing something. Beren’s last episode is 15x18, “The Truth.” We’ve all spec’ed about what could happen in this episode, and I think *I* know what it’s leading to. But for it to be leading to that, it means that the network has to have approved what we’ve all been waiting for years for.
Who got this change to happen? Who got the network to change their minds? It wasn’t us. It was them. I am fully convinced that Dabb and Berens quite literally put their careers on the line for Dean and Cas. They believe in them, they’ve shown that from the beginning, but the only thing standing in the way was the network, never allowing them to take the final step.
So, to answer your question: I think the writers want canon DeanCas because they’ve already shown us that they do. Take a look at their episodes, at Dabb’s, at Beren’s, at Glynn’s, at Perez’s, at Yockey’s. They’ve been telling us what’s going on with Dean and Cas for years.
Sure, I’m not in their heads, I guess I don’t know for *sure* that this has been their thought process, but if we put it all together, from the marked shift when Dabb fully took over in s12, to the change right after “Tombstone,” to the new shift, the blatantly romantic shift in season 15, what else is there?
I’ve said for a long time that we, the SPN fandom, are beyond lucky to have the writer’s that we do. They’re all going to go on to have prolific careers and we were lucky to get them at the end of our little show. I give them a lot of credit for what we have in the show today.
Just remember, they’ve been telling us in all of s15 who Chuck is. He says he’s the writer, right? But a writer who doesn’t have control of his characters? A writer who wants to do the same ending over and over because it “works”? That doesn’t sound like a writer, it sounds like a network exec.
They’ve been showing us what they want for years, and the way s15 is going? I think they may have convinced the network to let us have it.

A show that I'm currently watching has a platonic mother/son Tobin. The son overtook the father as the Ted. His father's mistress was the pilot Robin. She ended up being killed by the Barney lol. Since I'm a fan of the mother the change in structure has been super satisfying for me. Have you ever liked a platonic familial Tobin?
LOL, that sounds like an interesting case, ngl. which show is it?
Most of the non-traditional/platonic* Tobin’s I’m familiar with are Ted-Daughter structures, of which my favourite is Fa Zhou-Mulan. I’ve blanked on other examples that I truly loved, lmao, but I’ve enjoyed a few cases (I’ve seen a few eps from Black Lightning, where I get the feeling the Robin is Jennifer; in the Ant-Man films the structure is around Hank and Hope).
I think The Umbrella Academy has a sibling Tobin (Five-Vanya), but though I like them, neither are my faves (and I’m not too invested), so.
I don’t think I’ve ever watched a show with a Mother-Ted structure before tho? (it’s likely I’ve read books that could fit that, but I can’t remember rn). I got the feeling through my dash that maybe that Bates Motel show might have started as such, just for the central dynamic, but I haven’t watched a single episode, so I could be dead wrong.
*btw, I’m curious about how the show you mention handles that platonic Tobin, because with the exception of Ted-Daughter cases, all the cases I’ve encountered so far included some ~plausible deniability wrt whether it was solely platonic? Like Howard-Peggy on Agent Carter, or Five-Vanya in TUA lol.

i wish these had numbers to not take up room but alas: what is your absolute favorite ship? what’s a ship you like that most people don’t? what is the most underrated ship, in your opinion? (choose any of your fave pairings for the following bc I'm curious about all your faves) rate [pairing] from 1-10 and explain why. what’s your favorite headcanon of [pairing]? what’s your favorite canon moment of [pairing]? favorite AU ideas for [pairing]? what song(s) remind you of [pairing]?
Thank you my dear! You are my Star Wars Friend so I’ll keep it SW focused (if you wanted to ask this to solely find out what else I liked BESIDES SW sorry lol just let me know and I can redo it). This got long because turns out I have a lot to say about my ships so answers under the cut!!! xD
Absolute favorite ship: This one’s kinda hard but I’m gonna have to go with Obi Wan/Anakin! I also like them a lot as a trio with Padmé, but overall I gotta say these two are just my faves? Why? Because they are such a M E S S and gosh I just love them so much. Ppl say they don’t like each other very much but come on, have you watched the TCW, have you watched RotS, they’re the greatest team there ever was, they’re constantly fretting and worrying about each other, they’re always teasing (the constant banter omg boys pls) at each other and hyping the other up and believing in each other and Ahsoka literally calls them her adoptive guardians in the Ahsoka novel, that’s how much of a family they were and ugh they’re just so married. And they’re such a TRAGEDY and it breaks my heart and it’s delicious to watch because in the final fight it’s just heartbreaking betrayal because through it all they love each other so much and that’s WHY they’re so furious with each other because to them it feels like the ultimate betrayal. Even after (when after everything, Obi Wan still loved Anakin too much to kill him himself) they’re constantly on the other’s mind, and ugh the pain hurts but in such a good way, and how in the end Anakin did the right thing and Obi Wan was RIGHT THERE to help guide him back to the light in spirit and now they can rest happily together for eternity (with some spare stressing about, ya know, Kylo Ren and the impending return of Sidious, but never mind all that). and on top of that, it’s my fave because I also absolutely love their relationship platonically as well, as much as I LIKE to see them together, it’s not necessary for me because they have such an enjoyable dynamic. *coughs* Sorry, so yea, they’re my disaster faves! 😅
A ship I like that most people don’t: See above lol. I get aspects of the Obikin ship can be problematic in the whole power dynamic and age difference thing, but I’ve only ever shipped it after Anakin was knighted as an adult when there’s literally not a problem with it (it was weird for me because I watched the prequels totally out of order. I actually saw the TCW cartoon FIRST and then I saw RotS and then I didn’t watch the first two for a while after that because I was a fool and listened to prequel bashers who said the first two weren’t good, so when I started shipping them as adults that was all I saw them as). To be honest, for the most part the PT fandom is done with the drama since ya know, like a good half of the SW general fandom still hates us, so no one’s really vocal about not liking it and our shipping community is mostly left to ourselves, but every once in a while I’ll come across a joke post/fanart of the two and OP will be all snarky in the notes like “tag as a ship and I’ll come after you with my spiked bat” (someone’s exact words btw) and it’s like ok jeez, do not interact then, was minding my own business dude...
My most underrated ship: Hmmmm....... Gonna have to go between Luke/Ezra and Satine/Padmé. Skybridger I understand since they’ve literally never met in canon, but come ON, they’d get along like a house on fire and argh they should have met, it would be great. I honestly don’t get why Pads and Satine aren’t more of a thing (THEY DON’T EVEN HAVE AN OFFICIAL SHIPNAME ;_; ) cuz c’mon they’re the subtler explosive yin to Obi and Ani’s wildfire yang. They get along great and work together really well, and they both seem to have a type. I am doing them a little better in my new OT4 fic, and I hope ppl like it!!! Ya know what, I’m also gonna add Kaeden (cute girl from the Ahsoka novel!) and Ahsoka because even if a lot of ppl actually ship them, they hardly have any content and neED MORE DANGIT THEY WERE SO CUTE!!!!!!!
Gonna go with Obikin for all the following ones cuz I haven’t had the chance to gush about my boys in a while and you’ve opened Pandora’s box
Rate them from 1-10: 10, plus a hundred more points because I love them, then subtract that hundred again cuz Anakin is an gotdang idiot who ruined it and now they both make me cry. My scoring reasons are that they make me feel all the emotions and I love them Ever So Much and argh.
Fave headcanon: Oh boy, I’ve got a couple actually!
Whenever they’re talking/arguing over the phone, they’re always subconsciously mirroring each other’s actions even when they can’t see what the other is doing. It’s kinda creepy because you’ll hear yelling and it’ll look like one of them’s talking to an invisible person in front of them when it’s actually each other.
There has been multiple instances of them both getting injured in battle because they were distracted watching the other be a total badass (not that either will admit it)
Neither of them are morning people. AT ALL. Obi Wan actually has self-discipline and is able to get up with an alarm and crankily drag them both up, but both are almost impossible to deal with until they’ve had caffeine in them, and it’s been established that unless you want to risk murder, neither of them talks in the morning until caffeine has been provided.
There has been many, many cases of accidentally taking the other’s robe and not realizing it but thinking to themselves that said robe feels more comforting than usual today.
A mutually drunken arm wrestling match absolutely turned into a mutually drunken makeout once. Neither can remember it, and they wonder why some of the clones have been acting funny all week.
Half of the Temple thinks they’re already dating.
Ok I’ll stop it here
Fave Canon Moment: Ughhh, this is HARD. I really like the “any closer and you’d be kissing it” line in TCW, basically any moment in TCW when one of them refers to Ahsoka as “OUR padawan”, the extra long stares and unnecessary touches they give each other in TCW, the elevator scene in RotS movie (THE NOVEL MAKES IT A MILLION TIMES BETTER), also in RotS the way Anakin is half-ready to straight up fight Palpatine when he suggests leaving Obi Wan behind to die, the RotS “No loose wire jokes” bit, the RotS “Roger. Roger.” bit (OKAY JUST THE WHOLE FIRST HALF OF THIS RIDICULOUS MOVIE), the way Vader built his big stupid castle where they had their breakup, the way he’s constantly mentioning Obi Wan when the convo wasn’t even about him, seeing them together again at the end of RotJ (whoops you asked for one, you get MANY SCENES)
Fave AU ideas: Again, there’s a couple!
Superpower AU: Can’t decide whether I’d put this in canon or modern. Most powers in this AU are stolen from inspired by X-Men, DC, and other popular media, so I’m torn between Anakin having Jean Grey/Dark Phoenix style powers while Obi Wan had a variation on Rogue’s with additional energy manipulation. OR it would be a thing where Anakin could commune with the dead a la Klaus from Umbrella Academy while Obes had sort of Avatar-style wind/flight powers. (Both are relevant for different plots).
Sith AU: I know these are far from unpopular in the SW fandom, but the way I’d do it would be to try and write two stories at once, update one every other week so one update a week total. The stories would what would happen if either of them became the Sith Apprentice after the events of Episode 1, and how their dynamic would be during Ep 2 and The Clone Wars with one of them on the other side. It’s funny because the way I’ve plotted it, the Sith!Ani fic would have very big Good Omens vibes, while the Sith!Obi one would have very strong Under the Red Hood vibes, so two VERY different dynamics going on xD
WWII Spies: This is one I 100% plan to write someday, even tho it is a very long time from now. It’s basically following Anakin as an American naval pilot who got injured in a crash and discharged. He still wants to serve and eventually his talent gets him into the intelligence end of the war and sent to Europe where he meets Ben, who’s been working with British intelligence since it broke out, and sparks fly. I’m kind of cheating here cuz as of now this is an Obianidala story, not just Obikin, but it’s one I’m very excited for
Phantom of the Opera AU: This idea I had when I realized that Anakin as Vader is kinda a Lot like the Phantom, but he’s also a Lot like Christine too. So it turned into Anakin as a talented ballet dancer getting preyed on by Palpatine!Phantom (there is NO romance there, Palpy is a total creep and will be treated as such) with Obi Wan as a combination of Raoul and Madame Gery and I have a bunch of ideas and idk if it’s gonna be an actual thing, but I want it to.
Shapeshifter AU: Canon, not very complicated but they can all shift into animals. Obi Wan is a kind of cougar panther cat with a fluffy ginger tail, and Anakin is a big grumpy black Krayt Dragon with a stump for a front leg.
Not A Jedi!AU: One in canon in which set like the Sith!AU, two different stories exploring how their dynamic would be if one of them wasn’t found by the Order. As of now, I’ve got Anakin as the warrior pirate prince of Tatooine, after having grown up and staged a slave rebellion, then promptly put his mother on the throne, and Obi Wan’s there to negotiate something during TCW and things happen. For the Obi Wan one, he’s a political journalist and war correspondent who keeps on running into Anakin’s assignments and popping up where he’s stationed and Anakin has to keep this idiot from getting himself killed/stop asking me annoying questions that criticize the Jedi and the government.
Dark!AU: A kind of morbid canon divergent fic where Padmé dies early and unexpectedly (Palps didn’t plan it). Anakin goes off the rails and Obi Wan agrees to go with him on a murder vengeance roadtrip to try and keep him from Falling or the Sith from getting to him. He kinda fails and they both Fall in a way and it ends with them hunting down Sidious’ players one by one. I’m not entirely sure I want to continue with this tho because it plays strongly on the Fridged Woman trope, which I can’t stand. I’d have to figure out how to give Padmé some sort of active role after her death...
Songs to describe them: There’s a couple (I could have very well gone cranky but I decided to do (mostly) serious))(also my music taste kinda stinks)
Icarus— Bastille
Anna Sun— WALK THE MOON
Animal I Have Become— Acoustic cover by Vitamin String Quartet (original by Three Days Grace) (seriously y’all listen it’s sooooo gooooood)
Warriors— Imagine Dragons
My Demons— STARSET
Ignorance— Paramore
Set Fire to the Rain— Adele
Stubborn Love— The Lumineers
How to Save A Life— The Fray (yes i am aware it is stereotypical angst song leave me Alone it FITS)
Viva la Vida— Coldplay (tbh this fits like the entire PT but I liked it)
Raised by Wolves— U2 (another more PT-centric, but this one works dangit)
Bonus Broadway Song! : Confrontation from Les Miserables (now that ya think of it, that would be a pretty good AU too.....)
Bonus Broadway Song! : The Tango Maureen from Rent (I always imagined this one as Obi Wan and Padmé about Anakin, but it would be about something other than cheating cuz canon has established Anakin views cheating as a worse crime than murder, so yea)
Bonus Broadway Song! : Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better (aight this one’s mostly a joke but come ON don’t tell me that’s not completely them xD)

Finished the pilot last night and wow was that an interesting ride! I don't know any of these people and don't understand anything that's happening (the writers obviously expect the audience to have watched btvs first, which I haven't) but it was still far more entertaining than I would have expected. I'll stick around a few more eps before deciding if I like it enough to binge the whole thing. I will say, Angel's (mostly failed) attempts at understanding people and Cordy's general disaster of a life shouldn't feel so relatable lol. (Also, Cordy is awesome; I love her)
Haha yeah I was a little worried about that cause it does kind of heavily rely on btvs as a launching plate for the first few eps (at least, the first season at most). If you have any questions about background or certain characters or stuff like that, I'd be more than happy to give you an abridged rundown! That way you don't feel too out of the loop. It is a definitely very entertaining show, it took me a few eps to get into it but then I was hooked. Angel and Cordy are far too relatable for their own good and I'm so glad you love Cordy, she's the best and my absolute fave! Just wait until you get to Rm w/a Vu (that's one of my favorite eps for reasons you shall see). But yeah, I hope you continue to enjoy but also I totally understand if it doesn't end up clicking and feel free to keep giving me your thoughts or ask me any questions you may have! I'm absolutely loving this!!!

Keeping in mind, these opinions are probably not fully informed, as I've only watched 7 episodes so far. This is more of my initial impressions of them and may change later after I get to know them better. On a sidenote: I do love the fact that I just got a good character focused episode for Cordy with 1x05, followed by Kate in 1x06, and now Doyle in this last one. (Does that mean it's Angel's turn next?)
(Putting this under a read more, because it got kinda rambling. Sorry.)
Angel — I think I may have found a new comfort character with Angel. For a main character, I appreciate that the writers allow him to be very "human" in his struggles and flaws. I love that they actually let him make mistakes and be wrong – and acknowledge when he's wrong. Also, his story so far of regretting his past and trying to make amends, but at the same time feeling like he doesn't deserve forgiveness is just so sad but also a feeling I think a lot of young-to-middle adults can relate to (although hopefully not to the extreme level it is for Angel) and it's nice that they're actually exploring all the complexities of that. Love his social awkwardness too, and his friends having to adapt to reading between the lines when it comes to Angel showing he cares for them.
Cordelia — When she was first introduced in the pilot, I didn't give her much thought because I didn't realize she was going to be a main character. But by the end of the ep, she had fully captured my attention. I love that Cordy is the "normal" (no powers) member of the team but will still jump into the thick of things alongside her teammates. She's so unfazed by a lot of things that would have most people running in terror; and even when she is scared she still manages to fight back in whatever way she can. And I love how much she cares for her friends, especially since she's still in the early stages of learning to restructure her thinking to include people outside of herself. It means a lot every time she goes out of her way to comfort either Angel or Doyle, or even just keeping them on track when they're being idiots lol. She's really the glue holding their little business together right now. Also, yeah, I just think she's an incredibly cool person. (insert "I just think they're neat" meme right here 🙃)
Doyle — He's the sort of character that could very easily be annoying, so I really appreciate the writers taking the time to give him actual depth and make him such a sympathetic character. He's the most openly empathetic of the group; I love seeing him act as adviser/therapist for Angel and Cordy and knowing when to offer comfort and when to back off and give them space. It's doubly sweet on the rare occasions when they remember to do the same for him. Doyle's insecurities about himself and how ashamed he is of people finding out just make me really sad. It's, again, a very realistic experience for a lot of people and I hope they'll continue to explore that as well as they have been so far.
Overall, I'm not sure I can pick a favorite yet. I love this team so much and am enjoying seeing their friendship developing. I love how they're all walking disasters in their own ways, and how supportive and accepting they are of each other. The amount of unconditional love in this little found family means the world to me.
Also, I didn't include her on this list since she's not one of the mains, but I really like Kate, too. I hope they'll tell her the truth soon because it's not fair keeping her in the dark.

EDIT: sorry, this apparently got stuck in my queue for a few days. I've since watched 1x08. So, since she's the main character of the extended franchise, I'll just add my quick opinion on Buffy: I don't like her; I hope she doesn't come back.
1x05. Oh my gosh I love Cordelia Chase so much!! This was such a fantastic episode. I appreciate getting a deeper look into her character and a little more info on her backstory. The scene where she explained how she felt like she was being punished and why the house was so important to her hurt my heart. So glad Angel and Doyle were just being so supportive and protective of her throughout the whole adventure. But her doubts about whether they actually care about her was so heartbreaking. Seeing her finally standing up to the ghost was the best moment. And now she has an invisible roommate! That's oddly adorable, especially considering how somber a lot of these eps so far have been ending. Overall 10/10. I can see why you mentioned this as a good ep.
Ah you made it to Rm w/a Vu!!!!!!!! That's literally one of my absolute favorite episodes in the entire series, it's so good!! Cordy is such a queen and ugh that scene when she's talking about being punished hurts me, there are literally so many layers to this episode regarding her that I could honestly ramble about for hours, it's just such a stellar Cordy ep. Her standing up to the ghost is literally one of the most iconic things ever, that scene >>>>>> And YES I'm so glad you've now met phantom Dennis, I love him so much. I'm very very happy you enjoyed this ep, it's the best!!
Also I'm curious, I know you're only 6-ish eps in so far so it may be too early to tell but like who are your faves so far? What do you think of the characters? I'm always so interested to hear which characters people gravitate towards in a thing I watch, especially my mutuals
