#Just a design detail I like drawing for winged character busts

Heya! I love your art and the way your design your characters, I have a question do you have any tips about making a good reference sheet and character design? (I suck with clothes if you have any tip for it I will appreciate). Also what's your inspiration to create characters stories, universes and lores?
Ok first of all, I'm going to mostly just answer the first half because...idk stories and stuff just happen fdsjnsdf. Consuming media and other's peoples art + having a friend or two to bounce ideas is the best i got for that
For reference sheets, it really depends on what you need them for, but theres some general stuff like maybe not adding shadows, maybe having a bust, maybe having some extra drawings to show a bit of the personality. It all depends on what you need it for
If its just for your own reference/commissions/artfight, you dont need to go super in depth
These are some of the ones i did in june for artfight but that are also useful for myself.
So basically, a full body, maybe other outfits or the character in other ages, and whatever detail i find useful to have in there (plus some three other pages of reference for Orian, he has a lot of outfits nfdsjnsdf) But yeah you can also use more than one drawing too, which can be useful for adding different outfits/hairstyles/extra details
Salem's references are some that I have been really proud too. Thorough, to the point and even showing a little personality
One thing I dont really do is color swatches, I did it sometimes but honestly a lot of the time I don't color pick my stuff all the time, but thats a me thing fjdsnjsfd. Also be mindful that the background color can influence the colors
As for character design, both for the character and clothes I think having a good visual library helps. Look at your own wardrobe, people on the street, pinterest, stuff you like. And if its a fan oc, even easier! You have a point of reference already defined! Like my golden guards, I based their designs on some painting in Hollow Mind and also some concept art for the show.
My other tip is work out the design on paper first. Paper really helps me with this stuff. Its faster to churn out ideas and iterate on them. You dont have to have the finalized design on those sketches but it helps give you an idea
These are the sketches I did for my sona before I went to digital to make the first finalized design
But yeah this is the stuff I have, I hope it helps!
Edit: I also got this other sona for...something else and I wanted to show the process too fhdsbhdsf
So it began with a very rough idea, then I expanded it with more exploration sketches, and then the final result! (they still have wings, i just havent decided on which kind yet)

[ID/ a digital drawing of Patton Sanders as a pony character from my little pony.
It's a side view full-body drawing of Patton against a striped white and light pink background. He is a pegasus with a light blue coat and a white underside. He has a short curly brown mane and a medium-sized tail. His wings are splayed out, they are two shades of blue and white on the tips. He has blue hooves, white cloud-like markings on his snout and legs, and similar style blue markings on his flank. His eyes are a golden yellow and he wears glasses, along with a gray cardigan wrapped around his neck. He smiles and looks to the side.
His cutie mark — a heart-shaped cloud in front of a yellow sun with two smaller clouds around it— is shown in his flank as well as above him in a bigger size. The color palette used in his design is in the top right corner./ End ID]

My #1 post of 2022
[ID: A full body drawing of Roman Sanders in a outdoors setting. He has one hand up - a blue bird is perched on his finger - and he holds the hem of his skirt with the other. He smiles widely, singing with a wink while he looks at the bird. Along with a vibrant red dress with gold details and a white jacket, he wears a small golden tiara. There are four musical notes drawn in white next to him. Another blue birds flies in front of a tree. He stands in front of various trees and a few bushes with flowers. There are two focal trees next to him and a large trunk in front of him. The scenery is mostly painted in different tones of green and yellow.
The second image is a close-up of the first. /End ID]

Tutorial/Step-by-step/Tips 4
I will this time mainly talk about how to create coherent Characters Design, break down my thoughts process and give additional general tips
Since it's Concept Art, I won't do a "clean" lineart (I will mainly use my usual comfort textured brush and won't go further than a clean 2nd Sketch) nor add any shadings/effects (to not alter the color palettes)
Those characters are my friend pages_of_altaire's OCs, Vlad Masters's employees
I’m not a professional and nothing is “rule”, just an art nerd sharing what they learn in their free time
Long post !
xxx
Step 0: Collect Information
It’s tempting to straightly jump into the drawing but I really don’t recommend it
I usually make a tab with a part including basic information like : Name, Hair color & type, Eyes color, Skin color, Height, Body type And a part with : Cloths, Particular Accessories, Personality
If your characters are good with themselves and not hiding personality traits nor secrets, their personality and what they do in life/where do they live should be reflect in their clothing (however it’s interesting to make contrast if you want to create surprise, like a ruthless evil character with childish traits, or a very kind and sweet muscular tall man)
Pages_of_altaire made me a tab with all the information + mood boards 👌💚
Tip: We artists are often confront to same-face syndrome, but I will add that same body type syndrome is also very common while less talked about (even in the professional world like comics, or mangas) I highly recommend you to try going outside the “perfect standard body type” we usually start our drawing journey with if you want to vary your characters and give more depth to your world & stories (manly to feminine, thick to thin, tall to short, muscular to frail, old to young...) Tip: Like changing eyes types, varying hair is also very interesting to give your characters more personality (long, short, straight, waivy, curly, coily, braided, tied, messy, clean) Tip: Including a little personalized accessories and details really make a character stand up and more “unique” (a ring, a watch, glasses, jewelries, freckles, make up, a printed t-shirt...) Tip: If you don’t have any ideas, searching clothes and fashions references on Google or Pinterest could help
.
Step 1: First sketch
This is just a really rough sketch to choose the eyes types and what poses would reflect each characters’ personality best
Eyes and face are the reflect of the character soul, it’s what we tend to look first and focus on (it’s biologic) so obviously we will have to be careful about the face
If the eyes are the soul, the hands are the spirit Don’t neglect how important hands are in a pose, are they showed ? hided ? crossed ? opened ?... A good pose includes good hands poses
Ask yourself, is your character cheerful ? grumpy ? confident ? cool ? shy ?...
Tip: The spin also shows how confident a character is, they could rise up or bend Tip: To make an interesting character sheets composition don’t sort the characters by height smaller to taller, try to vary and make height “waves”
.
Step 2: Second sketch
I’m usually don’t bother doing a second sketch, unless I really want to have a clean final result But the cleaner your sketch is, the cleaner your final lineart will be
Since I’m still not totally comfortable with my anatomy (still working on my memories library) to make clean final product I generally use 3d models with the free app Easy Pose and adjust my sketch to give them the height & body type I want (changing the hips, busts, shoulders, muscles etc...), correcting the pose if necessary
There is nothing wrong with tracing a pose as long as you trace responsibly, it’s really common in industries (like Disney or Ufotable) to use 3d models to speed up the work and make artists’ lives easier Good tutorial and explanations by @pesky-poltergeist under @the-stove-is-on-fire‘s art tutorial => https://pesky-poltergeist.tumblr.com/post/646558144390119425/wing-drawing-hack-trace-a-photo-no-seriously
Tip: Use a dark blue instead of pure black to draw to rest your eyes, you will focus better this way and could still change the line color after :) Tip: To make a lively lineart, vary the line weight; thick for separate shapes & intersections, and thin for details & textures Tip: We tend to draw the eyes first, but try to draw the eyes at the very end of your sketch/lineart As said above, us human are social creatures, we are biologically programmed to search eyes and faces, by drawing the eyes first we tend to unconsciously search the eyes of our characters and then are distracted from the whole picture
.
Step 3: Silhouettes
The silhouette help to understand how strong a character design is, iconic characters like Sonic or Cloud have very distinguished figures A silhouette also help to see how confident a character is If the silhouette is still clear the pose is strong and the character confident, on the contrary if the silhouette is more blurry the character is more shy
.
Step 4 : Values + Textures (useful for greyscale comics like mangas)
The most important in a drawing is values (brightness), before saturation and color/hue (if you don't know value/saturation/hue, I recommend you to search some tutorials about the color theory on Youtube) I always start with choosing my values before adding any saturation or colors
Values could drastically change the mood of a piece (calm, drama, tension etc...) and for character design, artists use a full range for clarity; from high key to low key
There my example with bad values, as you could see cloths, hair and skin blend together and make the visual difficult to read
My final values, with define separations between the different parts
Tip: When you are drawing a group, try to vary where the darker and lighter values are between each characters to make an interesting and harmonious blend Tip: Adding textures/patterns give more life to a flat 2D drawing, especially for clothes or backgrounds; you could hand draw it or use premade brushes
.
Step 5: Values / Hue / Saturation (Finished Concept Arts)
The value “rule” for clarity is still there for a colored drawing, you will just have a bit more values to consider
Since I was working on a group, to not clash characters I decided to give each of them a different main color based on their personality
Abby - Green : Youth, Energy, Freshness (bonus: green go well with redheads) Nate - Blue : Serenity, Stability, Wisdom, Reliability Jolie - Red : Passion, Danger, Importance Angel - Purple : Independence, Nobility, Bravery Brad Yellow : Joy, Optimist, Enlightenment
While adjusting my hues I adjust at the same time the saturation to make something harmonious to the eyes, I usually choose to saturate one/two piece(s) of clothes or accessories by character to make it pop, usually the main cloth or the hair
To finish I just blur the line a bit, a bit of blushes, eyes lights and a paper texture on the whole piece Tada it’s done !!
Bonus: Step-By-Step gifs
Thank you pages_of_altaire for the character design exercise opportunity
I haven’t draw braids nor curly hair for a while now and it’s good to challenge ourselves a bit sometimes It’s help me go back on art after some rough weeks, and force me to go outside my comfort zone and comfort characters (aka Danny & Dani)
If you have any questions don’t be scared to ask me, I’m not a professional but I like to nerd about art ^^ 💚

Hello everyone! With some people having been showing interest in my art lately, I thought I’d get my stuff straight with Art Commissions and Pricing! I have a variety of styles, so bear with me.
I’m open to draw a variety of topics, not just Homestuck, and like designing characters and OCs, but I do reserve the right to turn a Commission if the topic makes me uncomfortable.
You can find examples of my art Here, Here and Here, in This Imgur Album, as well as below the Read Me!
If you’re interested, you can contact me here on Tumblr, or at Wakraya#4164 on Discord.
Commission Slots Filled: 1/4
The MSPA Style is pixel-based, reminiscent of the style used for Homestuck. It’s simple and generally line-less. The usual size for these is a 500x500px canvas, but depending on the complexity, they can easily go bigger.
- Partial Shots (Bust, from the Waist-Up...) come up to 10-15$ per character, depending on complexity of the pose, while Full Body Shots would be 15-20$, again, depending on the complexity of the pose.
- More Complex composite shots, positions, backgrounds, etc., will be priced on a case by case basis- That is to say, tell me what exactly you want and I will see what I can do.
- The Basic Background for this style is simply a solid grey or a few tones of grey to represent the background. Room furniture, outdoors detail, etc, all count as more complex Backgrounds. (See above)
- I can do some Basic Animation in this Style! Snappy sprite movement, tail wagging or ear twitching. Once more, entirely dependent on complexity, parting from the Basic Prices listed above.
- Once the base is done, Extra Edits can be done to the pictures, such as, using the same base but giving the character different clothes, or changing the position of the limbs/facial expression. Very minor edits like, a version with a White Sprite and another with a Skin tone, are free. Basic Edits are 5$ each, and more Complex ones will be once more a case by case basis.
The Standard Style is just my normal drawing style. The canvas are generally 1000px or higher in size, which makes it more elaborate and slow.
- Rough Sketches are usually what I do first to get a clear idea of how the overall piece is going to look like once inked, but more elaborate Rough Sketches can look quite good as well. A Rough Bust would come up to 10$ per Character, 15 around Waist, and 20$ for a Full Body Rough Sketch.
- Inked Sketches are more refined, and ready for coloring if needed, but obviously need more time. An Inked Bust would come up to 20$ per Character, 35 around the waist, and 50$ for a Full Body Inked Sketch.
- Basic Coloring depends on the size of the piece, but will usually come up to about 5-15$ per Character, depending on the amount of detail.
- Other details like the Complexity of the Piece itself, or Background Detail, may add to the final price, but will be calculated on a case by case basis when discussing the full piece/s.
Chibi little dolls/charms that look really cute! This is a relatively recent style, and the Chibis themselves are about 400x250px.
- A Sketched Chibi Doll with no Color will come up to 15$, 20 if their pose is particularly complex, or they’d have some detail with them like some item or weapon.
- Adding Basic Color to them will be an extra 5$, or 10 for particularly complex ones, although considering the Chibi Style, I struggle to think what would qualify as ‘Complex Coloring’.
Pixel Sprites! These are good for character reference, like a D&D Sheet. These sprites are proportional- 5′6″ being equivalent to around 150px tall, and may range from fairy-sized to 8+ feet tall. Even if you don’t care about the proportional size, have it in mind to request a Bigger or Smaller Sprite for pricing purposes!
- Standard Pose Sprites are the cheapest, a standard base in a neutral stance. These are 20$ for the Average-Height Sprites (And for the Tiny Sizes that require a Zoom), but may range from 16 to 24 for smaller and larger sizes and depending on complexity.
- Basic Pose Sprites are slightly more expensive, but can give the sprite more personality than the neutral stance. These are 30$ for the Average-Height Sprites and Tiny Sizes, but may range from 25 to 35 for smaller and larger sizes and depending on complexity.
- Complex Pose Sprites are much more dynamic and unique, but require a lot more time to deal with. These are 40$ for the Average-Height Sprites and Tiny Sizes, but may range from 32 to 48 for smaller sizes and depending on complexity.
- Objects like Weapons, or Non-Human Anatomy may come with extras. Things like, Ears or Tails shouldn’t be much of an issue, but Wings or a Digitigrade Pose will require time and work. These extras will be a case by case thing, depending on the specifics of the Sprite.
I do Other Stuff, too, which ranges from the experimental to the silly. I don’t have set prices for anything like this, but hey, if you’re interested, I am capable of doing the following:
- Iconography & Symbology, stuff like this. I even did a Tattoo for myself once.
- Landscapes. Very out of practice with these, and I’m not even that particularly good, but I know I can draw general scenarios with nice vibes.
- Maps. Note, I haven’t drawn any in a while, but I have done some stuff in the past.
- Dumb Memes and Emotes. I doubt anyone would be interested in something like this, but hey, if I’m exposing all of my work, I may as well showcase the sillier of the bunch as well.

Letters from Buxcord 1- Christmas Greetings
My RPG group has started up a Monster of the Week campaign that may be alternating with the Starfinder campaign once the current MOTW campaign (that i’m not in) has finished. We did a Session Zero-slash-Christmas Episode yesterday so I could test the waters, and here’s what occurred from my character’s perspective:
Samantha,
I’m addressing this to you because I know you will be the one hounding me the most for the full story once I manage to return, or at least establish contact with Taryn. In the case that I discover how to actually send these letters to you but not how to get myself back across the inter-universe void, I’m giving you permission to publish what I write, just so the world doesn’t think me dead. Again.
This world I’ve been shunted to is remarkably similar to Taryn, both geographically and culturally. It might just be that mysterious translation convention at work, but everyone I’ve met seems to speak Anglish. The strangest thing, though, is that while magic exists in this universe, it’s just slightly out of sync with what I’m familiar working with, just enough that while I can cast spells as I normally would, there’s a good chance of them backfiring if I rely on my muscle memory too much. Most of my Cards got burnt out upon arrival, somehow, leaving me only with the old, reliable Tangler prepped for combat casting.
When the portal spat me out and my senses recovered from the absolute deprivation of the void, I found myself outside a small town called Buxford, Louisiana. That would be approximately the Novo Orleano area back home, judging by the maps. It’s a small town, so walking around everywhere isn’t too grievous. When I arrived in the town proper, I naturally got to work gathering information. Buxford has its share of local legends and cryptoids, but almost none of the locals seems to take such things too seriously. Magic – proper magic – is not widely recognized as real either, which is going to present a hindrance to my efforts to research a portal spell that I can cast in this environment.
I’m hesitant to try my luck in other parts of the world yet, though. I essentially need to start over, find a reliable source of income and build up a reputation for strangeness and problem-solving to try and attract the attention of those who do possess magic ability. I could so that anywhere, I’ll admit, but I sense something… special hiding in Buxcord that may be worth unearthing before I try moving on.
During my initial search around the town, I decided to take a chance that a small “Magic shop” I came across in downtown would have something up my alley and not just prestidigitation. The place was… eclectic to put it mildly, as if the owner had just stocked whatever they could find that is even remotely connected to the concept of “magic.” I considered just leaving after a quick look around, until I caught the eye of the owner. He calls himself Nollthep the Unpredictable, and despite his claims to contrary he is definitely not as human as he appear. Whatever he truly is, he lacks knowledge of a lot of basic concepts, is easily distracted by unfamiliar words, and his manner of speech is stilted and uncanny in the extreme, but he’s quite friendly and not the least bit shy about wanting to learn everything he can. The one thing’s he cagey about is his true nature, but I’m willing to humor him about his cover story both because of his friendliness and because he’s the first hint of the supernatural I’ve found and I’m hoping that associating with him will eventually get me in contact with something more helpful.
I seems that I arrived in Buxcord about a week before the year-end holiday of Christmas, which I’ve gathered is essentially the Yule tradition you’re familiar with, but observed on a single day instead of across three. Two days before Christmas, I was browsing through the local library in a vain search for books on real magic, when I overhead talk of a strange, large figure being seen in the forest just off the nearest highway. It wasn’t much to go on, but at this early stage I’ll take any possible leads I can get, so I set out to walk along the highway. As I passed the local orphanage, I spotted Nollthep at the gates, apparently trying to find somebody but mostly just confusing the poor person on the other end of the intercom with his blunt and meandering questions. The worker hung up before I could make my way over to try and help Nollthep, so I just came out ans asked why he was bothering the orphanage. He just said he was looking for someone, and also needed to pick up some milk (which would be tricky, as the stores in town were all closing early for the season). Before I could press for details, as young woman came out of the orphanage carrying a baseball bat, and Nollthep greeted her like an old friend. She had come out for the same reason I had – to figure out what Nollthep’s business was, and after we all exchanged notes we realized we were all curious about the large thing moving around. Some of the orphans believed it to be Santa Claus, the gift-giving figure of Christmas, but Leanne (the baseball bat girl, as you probably guessed) and I both found that unlikely. Nollthep, in his simple way, was immediately convinced that Santa Claus was real once we’d explained it to him.
Our quarry wasn’t hard to find. Not far into the woods, we came across a clear set of large clawed footprints. I recognized them as belonging to something similar to the Tibetan Yetis or the mythic Sasquatch, strange as that may seem seeing as neither are native to wetland regions like Buxcord. We followed the tracks and quickly came upon a strange sight.
I’m sure you’ve at least seen pictures of Yetis, Sam, if not met one. Imagine one of those, but with its fur patterned to resemble a red winter riding suit with white trim. At its feet lay a man with a wounded leg and a dropped shotgun. Nollthep and I quickly leaped into action, while Lea hung back, gripping her bat tightly. Nollthep reached deep into a small bag as he ran at the yeti and drew out a bust that he proceeded to use as a club. I tried to tie the Yeti up in a Tangler, but the spell misfired and caught the wounded man instead. Cursing my haste, I ran up to drag the man back while Nollthep continued to gleefully exchange blows with the Yeti.
Lea called my attention to something moving among the trees, and once I got the man a safe distance from the fight, I took a closer look. While the Santa-patterned Yeti was weird, the three creatures watching us from the trees were downright creepy. At first glance, they looked like deer, but as looked longer it was obviously that they were not deer, and probably never had been. They had the right general shape and antlers, but their bodies were covered in chitin like an insect, including sheathes for bug-like wings. The three not-deer crept closer, and the nose of the lead one started to glow as they began making noises like cicadas from hell. I managed to weave up a lightning spell that went where I wanted, zapping the lead not-deer in the nose. The creatures fled, followed by the Yeti once it broke away from Tollthep.
I’m not good at healing magic even under the best circumstances, as you know, but the man’s leg was bleeding so much that I had to at least. The process was painful for him, but I succeeded in closing the wound without leaving much of a scar. He introduced himself as Professor Thomas and said he had been trying to capture or destroy the creatures after they’d escaped from the lab he worked in. He said his colleague, Case, had created the things as part of some harebrained scheme to make his daughter’s Christmas more magical. Nollthep became very interested at hearing the name Case and quickly agreed that we should accompany Thomas back to the lab to get more information.
When we arrived, we found found Professor Case in the middle of briefing a local private eye named Jim Burn. Case wanted Jim to try and capture the Yeti and not-deer alive. Jim seemed to share my group’s opinion that Case was a pure idiot for making the creatures in the first place, but he accepted the job and had no objections to us going along with him. Before we left, we interrogated Case why he’d made the things (as opposed to, say, hiring a professional Santa actor) and how he expected to keep them under control. Apparnetly, he’d based the designs on a crayon drawing his daughter had made, explaining why there were only three not-deer instead of the traditional eight from the Santa Claus myths (not that I’m complaining about that) and possibly why the “Santa” was a skvetchte Yeti. As to controlling the things, he claimed they wouldn’t hurt children – and I had to shut down Nollthep’s suggestion of using kids as a living shield – and that Case’s own voice was the only thing that would control them. Naturally, I insisted on Case accompanying us if that was the… the case. The professor resisted, saying he’d hired Jim so that he wouldn’t have to put himself at risk, until Lea somehow managed to put him into a kind of trance with just a few words and a smile. I’m not sure she was even aware she’d done anything special, but I resolved to keep on her in the future for the same reasons as Nollthep.
Professor Thomas, insisting the creatures needed to be eliminated, revealed that they shared a simple yet rather unusual weakness: contact with mistletoe would kill and dissolve them almost instantly.
With our plan set, everyone piled into a Jeep and drove out into the woods to seek the Santa-squatch. We found it and the not-deer with about as much ease as earlier, and Lea gave the enthralled Case a push toward them. Case tried to sing at the Yeti, but his voice failed him and the beast swatted him into a tree. With Plan A a predictable failure, we launched right into Plan B: Nollthep engaged the Yeti in hand-to-hand again while I tried to apply mistletoe to the not-deer. My initial efforts to move the plant around with magic resulted in accidentally zapping Lea with lightning – not a deadly amount, mind you, but enough to knock her down – so I decided that it mgith actually be less risky to just get hands-on about it. After getting the Yeti in a successful Tangler to give Nollthep a bit of help, I ran up and slapped the mistletoe on the nearest not-deer. The results were as Thomas had indicated, and not very pretty. One of the deer went after Lea, and Jim Burn put a bullet through its head. Lea went after the last not-deer, and must have unconsciously tapped into her magic again because the thing fell apart the moment she got a good grip on its hindquarters. Nollthep knocked the Yeti out, and Thomas applied some mistletoe to finish it off.
Case was summarily fired from the lab, and Nollthep graciously offered to take charge of him, all without the man regaining consciousness to give his consent. Thomas drove us all back to our respective residences (I’m currently staying at a hotel). Thomas thanked me personally for my help and offered me a place to stay if I needed it. I didn’t accept right away, but I’ll certainly keep him in mind.
‘Twas an odd night before Christmas, but I think I’ve found myself some folks I can depend on and avenues of investigation to explore on my quest to get back home.
With luck, I’ll be handing this letter and those to follow to you in person, but if not, then don’t you or the others worry too much about me.
-Ash

HELLO my lovely folks!! I’ve officially reopened character art commissions for summer 2018; come grab some sweet sweet art (and fill my sad sad wallet)! Any reblogs/signal boosts are very much appreciated 💕 More details for those interested under the cut. Thanks for looking!
Pretty much all the necessary info is already listed above, but there’s a chance my handwriting is completely illegible so here is the information again, typed out and with slightly more detail:
STYLE OPTIONS.
A. sketchy / semi-flat $25 fullbody · $17 halfbody · $10 bust
lines are somewhat messy/sketchy, colors are mostly flat with some minimal shading.
1 wip screenshot per piece (unless you request more); wip is of the sketch (which is essentially the final lineart for this style).
this style is basically my standard style, and the quality can vary more than other styles, so feel free to offer me a $ amount that falls within the vicinity of the base price for messier or neater results. for example, a standard fullbody is $25, but you can offer $20 and i’ll still draw you a fullbody in this style, but it’ll just be lower quality because i spent less time on it.
+$22 / +$14 / +$7 per additional character
B. full color $45 fullbody · $35 halfbody · $25 bust
idk if the name of this style is that descriptive lol but basically it’s much neater and more detailed than style A.
1 wip screenshot per piece (unless you request more); wip is of the rough sketch.
+$40 / +$30 / +$20 per additional character
C. chibi $7 fullbody · $4 headshot
small children what else is there to say
no wips
+$5 / +$3 per additional character
D. grabbag $ whatever u want
the purest form of u throwing me money to draw stuff. send me references of what you want me to draw and how much money you want to pay me, and i’ll draw something for you.
the artwork will reflect your $ offer (i.e. more money = higher quality), but you don’t get to choose how i draw it. style can range from quick doodles to full paintings to completely experimental stuff.
no wips (that would ruin the surprise!)
OTHER INFO.
full payment is due up front via paypal before i begin a commission (prices are in USD)
all commissioned artwork is for personal use only
i reserve the right to refuse any request
other styles and additional wips available on request
maximum of 4 characters in one piece (like in a group picture; no limit on individual character commissions)
overly complex designs/requests may either cost more or be simplified
depending on my schedule, it can take anywhere from a couple of days to a couple of weeks for me to finish a commission. if you want something done by a certain time, please let me know in your initial email.
NOTE: i will be very busy irl from june 10 - july 20 so if i’m working on your commission within that time frame please be patient with me!
A non-exhaustive list of do’s/don’ts:
OK:
minor animal characteristics (e.g. ears, wings, tails)
tasteful nudity
real life photo references
i can’t or won’t draw:
furry

Hey gang, I present to you the first time I’ve opened commissions since I went to college. I’m a recent graduate tryin’ to make their way in this big ol scary world as an illustrator, and if you’ve ever wanted to own some of my art or see me draw some of your characters, now’s your chance! I’m startin’ cheap n’ simple for now, but I’ll have more options up as time goes on. Gimmie a reblog if you can! I’ll also have zines and comics available in a hot second, but for now…
B&W Inks (25.00 USD) and Colored Inks (35.00 USD)
Inked on 93 lb Aquabee Multimedia paper using Noodler’s Heart of Darkness, a dye-based, “bulletproof” ink. Colored digitally in Photoshop. May include simple typography/speech bubble if requested.
EXAMPLES: I usually color the inks I post, so plain black and white examples are sparse. However, if you’d like to see more B&W examples of my work, just get in touch and I’ll send you some material. X X X X X X X X X X
Sketch Sheet- 40.00 USD
Drawn loosely with an emphasis on dynamism rather than clean linework, but colored and may include speech bubbles or typography if requested.
It will include EITHER 2 full bodies and 2-3 busts, OR three full bodies. For now, it will be limited to one character per sheet.
EXAMPLES: X X X X X
-The COMPLEXITY FEE is enforced when a character has a complicated prop or intricate design element, such as a suit of armor, an animal companion, a large set of wings, a lot of detailed jewelry, an intricate weapon, involved mechanical prosthesis, etc. This will be enforced per object on a case-by-case basis.
DETAILS:
-No fetish stuff or porn, but pinups and nudity are fine. I don’t mind getting cheeky but no things going into or out of holes, if you catch my drift.
-At the end of the day I’ll let you know if I’m not comfortable with the material, or if I’m not confident in my abilities to execute something.
-Send me a private message and I’ll give you my e-mail, where we can discuss details of your commission and I can send you progress shots.
-I will allow three sessions of revisions in the pencil stage before I begin charging for further alterations.
-Turnaround is estimated to be two weeks or less, depending on your position in the queue, how quickly you get back to me regarding progression, and the level of complexity. It could be done in a couple of days, or it could be done in a week or two, just depends on the circumstances.
-Terms of service will be sent with a paypal invoice.
-Because these are relatively straightforward, payment will be due before I begin your commission.
-Everything listed is at least in part analog, so as long as you live in the United States, I can mail inks or pencils upon request, so long as you pay for postage.

I am a professional graphic designer living and working in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I am employed by a large company who contracts my services out to newspapers and companies all over the US to build and create ads and branding elements (logos / social media stuff / ect.) as well as advertising campaigns. What I offer to my customers is a unique blend of graphic design and illustration. I can draw and sketch, as well as make a composition work from a designer’s perspective.

Since the darkness took our minds They burned our courage many died Had to leave it all behind rebuild our lives Passing memories remained It made my soul a burning flame Haunted dreams of my desire Reveal my name Raise our swords we fight for life Shields and armor shining bright Strike like dragons we have no fear Our swords are made of steel
Fly across the high seas and mountains Rise above the golden horizon Far away beyond the gates of space and time Through the wastelands forever and on Still we fight on for our freedom The cry of the fallen souls bleeding Forever journey through the lands of ice and snow Will we face all the fears of the world? The cry of the brave Since the time we saw the sign Destruction of your feeble mind Centuries have come and gone but nothing's changed Hopes and dreams have disappeared Destruction of your kind is near Trapped inside your suffering eternal flame Search the darkness search the light Fierce resistance what a fight Glory for unholy seal Lies all cast in steel
In the depths of your desire So secretly you feed the fire Burning through the memories of all our lives Watch the day turn into night You reach out for that guiding light First to be the one to hear their blinding lies Fear of darkness fear of light Sucked in by their ancient might Ruthless in what you may feel When your mind they steal'
The mighty and powerful sounds that echoed from the glorious metal song blasted through a lone figure's ear. The agitating and swiping guitars and pounding drums all served one purpose: to get the blood running for a fight that just like the song: 'would be a sight that many dragons of the old days would find honourable'. Honourable because of the loss one small dragon could have felt. As the song repeated, the figure spotted movement that even rats would be to prideful for. Scurrying like a shadow was a despicable excuse for life. A rotten scumbag that had dared to slay a dragon! In the most cowardly ways possible. Something that would fall completely before the eyes of this figure, who's crystal gems turned radiant from a deep blood lust. One sparking a vivid red shade before the man cloaked in a long black cloth kicked himself from resting position and moved in pursuit. It was easy for the unidentified man to stalk this shadow, all over the world had he been dishing out punishment for people of this kind. These lowest of the barrel, dirt beneath the earth. Calling this fleeing shadow a monster would insult the very tools the vengeful person would use to get the Justice that was so unfairly screwed.
The Hunter was a human, tall built with broad shoulders and a burning soul, dressed warrior of modern times: Combat boots, trousers, t shirt with the unmistakable logo of a metal band, cloak and a special duel disk. Yes, a duel disk. Everything in night black, Having the benefit of stealth during the depth of night. He was Crimson, the duelist that used a long forgotten and dangerous power for the light of justice delivered in cold fashion. Once a respectable duelist in the Pro League but then faded from memory because of personal trauma. Now, finally, a few of those would be dealt with. As the shadow of this rat was exactly the kind of being why the vengeance seeker became such a dark figure. As this person was the lowest of all trash: a child murdering rapist. Earlier there was mention of a Dragon. Indeed, a very loved dragon. His sister, a young and aspiring duelist that hoped to follow in the footsteps of both her brother, had been brutally murdered by this scumbag of a person. No, not a person, a demon! One that had to be destroyed in every way possible. And what better way then with the very cards once belonging as a treasure towards his beloved sister, his little dragon. Crimson closed in, shuffling the cards and getting close by. The deck, a mixture of cards that belonged to him and the person that had been taken, radiated with power. As if an ominous light or candle was burning inside the cards forming one heck of a motivator. Mentally, being blessed with a legendary gift, the man could hear the agitated and murderous cry of his sister's most beloved card. It's might awakened by having that love ripped away. Even cards, as Crimson discovered, had feelings. That's when it happened. First contact!
Busting through a wooden barricade, the Hunter cornered his prey, pressing the bastard violently against a wall while the latter screamed in terror from this sight. Where earlier this thing had been a shadow like rat hiding from everything, now a ghost of black rushed him into a corner and pressed a strong elbow against that squeaky throat. Almost a real rat it seemed, as the culprit looked back with the sight of utter terror! This guy was exactly as another Hunter had said. A 'Nice Guy TradeMark', some filty scumbag that was sick and tired of being 'left alone' by the other gender and before long, turned violent. A single card radiated very deeply at this statement. Soon, very soon. A voice that trembled with rage and hatred for this...thing, started the long way of retribution...
'DAUTAN! YOU HAVE FAILED THIS WORLD!'
'What who the fuck are you???'
'I AM YOUR WORST NIGHTMARE!'
'Stay the FUCK away from me! Scary bastard!'
'YOU HAVE NO VOTE! YOU LOST YOUR RIGHTS TO HUMANITY WHEN YOU MURDERED MY DRAGON!'
'What? I dunno a fuckin' dragon. Leave me be!'
'GRAB YOUR DISK, SCUM, DAY OF JUDGEMENT IS UPON YOU!'
That line, 'day of Judgement is Upon You', was a call for the utter darkness. A deep purple mist began engulfing both characters. One that had such a density the world seemed to fade out of existence. The single light coming from Dautan's cheap 'easy to afford' duel disk that everyone knows and understands, as well as the more intricate one that Crimson held. Both a backpack and a disk, which folded out from a single base. Solid and sturdy, one big bar shot out from the arm, where one single card shaped spot was lighting up, then two on the left and on the right shot out, revealing the required five spots where one would place a card for the Duel Monsters duel. This custom disk was halfly designed by the Industrial Illusions company, and designs that his little dragon had made.
They both now stood amidst a 'duel ring from the Shadow Realm', a place many duelists either didn't believe exists or were terribly frightened by. And for good reason. Crimson had learned the risks the hard way back in the day and now had made it his life's work to never let this power get out again. Except for those that were deserving of an eternity of suffering. The Shadows gained power from torturing their victims beyond anything that was conceivable by the minds of humankind. A survivor of the torment had kept these details safely locked away from public, but if one mention of 'returning' to these Shadows got that survivor a violent panic attack whilst the eyes saw horrors beyond sight, you can imagine this place is bad. The ideal place for a sick fuck as him. Crimson showed chivalry, having drawn five cards from the forty five in his deck, because it mattered not. With such dark thoughts already it's key to keep one part true to yourself. SO Dautan took the first move. Which was utterly pathetic. Having survived the Pro league, there were real strategists. But this scumbag had no understanding of the honour that was bound to these duels. Not a single shred! How could one so vile and tainted by sickening urges such as murder? It was inconceivable that he had a chance. Plus another factor was the experience. Having dueled those that had everything to loose as well as nothing, you tend to get a feel and read on the power and capacities of one's deck. But this sick bastard had a deck you'd expect. Summoning a level four machine consisting of the Union monsters was nothing special. SO when the X-Head Canon appeared, with a staggering 1800 points, there was absolutely no panic. Maybe even joy with the lovely fact of three face down cards. Back line support. An amateur.
'My turn! I draw'
With piercing eyes of boiling rage, the deck resonating perfectly with the danger of this guy in progress, it seemed to actively try to win on it's own. Holding in hand a card combination that would proof so rare and potentially powerful it was almost sad. Almost...
'I play a field spell! Activate Seal of Orichalcos!'
After voicing this, placing the blue card with an intricate depiction, began shining bright with light as it's holographic representation turned into a real life thing. The ground beneath both duelists radiated in toxic green as the two crossed arrow tip seal activated and coloured the shadows in a sickening colour; which was but a slight taste of what's in store.
'Then, I can call to my field Guardian Eatos! Rise my Celestial Fairy!'
From above, blinding white light announced the arrival of a beautiful Angelic being. Big wings of white, simple outfit and a gentle look in her eyes, landed peaceful on the ground. But as the celestial guardian spotted the target and threat, those gentle eyes turned into a cold monstrosity that would destroy everything in it's path. Justice of a Divine sort.
'Next, I play another spell card! Over the Rainbow: Pot of Gold! This makes your chances of winning even slimmer. Because now, at the cost of half my life points, I can do something that will break your defensive power completely!'
Feeling his body violently harmed as a cloud of shadows surrounded Crimson from waist down, it was clear the Shadows were very hungry for a treat. It hurt, there was no denying it. Outside of the Shadow Realm, this was but a simple game where honour was met with graceful defeat an humble victory in Pro Leagues and bragging rights were granted at your average locals. But here? Losing one life point meant the Shadows took that much life out of you. And having payed half of them in the start, was rather costly. The grasp was colder then ice but burned hotter then Lava. It felt horrendous to do this to one's self. But as deep as this cost was, the pay off would be worth it. Because after rain comes the Sun. Or rather Rainbow. Mighty radiant and having a protective light to it, rose a rainbow from around the Seal's borders. Raising up into the high nothings until a roar as powerful as thunder echoed across both duelists' ears. Riding the rainbow as an ancient steed, appeared a dragon. Covered in scales of white and gold, with the seven colours of the rainbow in it's neck. Atop near the head was a solid Ruby that burned in scarlet red! Following it was the orange glow of Amber, also vividly radiating with power. Next a Yellow Topaz that screamed blood lust, which nearly made one forget the green Emerald that for once in all the years wasn't hiding it's flare. Prancing prideful as a noble Pegasus, was the Sapphire blue. Followed by a soaring indigo of Kobalt that followed, almost as a hunting eagle. Purring last in line was the violet Amathyst. With majestic wings and immense beauty, normally the mere sight of this mighty Dragon would fill your heart with hopes and dreams for the future. Yet the eyes of Duatan had no chance given that the Rainbow Dragon was hungry for revenge, it's bold golden eyes had a darker glow, it was vicious! But what was most impressive, was how the Mist of Shadows could make these holograms real. Their tempers were not just programmed into the disks, but actively fed to life by the power of this Realm. Just like Eatos was calm but ready, so to was the Dragon, made flesh and bone.
'Then I play another spell! Card of Sanctity! Now we both get to draw until we each hold six! But you won't be needing any of them, as your turn will never come!'
'What's your problem! What is this place anyways and why can I feel that dragon's breath?'
'You're in the Shadow Realm, this is where your soul shall remain forever. And much to your disbelief, these cards are now real. This is a real Guardian and a real Dragon! As for what my problem is, Duatan, that is you! You're my problem!'
Having said all that, Crimson redrew a hand, five new cards sealed the deal even more. All was fit for a one time combo finisher...
'Now, it's time to meet a dear friend of mine! By taking my one turn normal summon, Red eyes Chick arrives to the field!'
On the field a small black and red egg appears out of thin air, which cracked as soon as it manifested. Inside was a young dragon newborn, burping a single flare of flames up.
'But this small one will grow up real fast as I activate the power of it's ancestor from my hand! By removing this little chick from the game, I can special Summon the Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon to my field!'
The chick got a hiccup, then bursted outwards as from one shape a massive dragon covered in black and crimson red scales rose up from nothing. Though slightly smaller then the Rainbow Dragon, it represented perfectly how deep the anger and hatred of Crimson really was. Huffing and puffing with black flames, a metallic glance covered the Dragon. Which reached up in it's full length and let loose a massive roar! The Metal Dragon, a key card of Crimson, felt the murderous power of it's master and immediately reacted. Almost sensing it treat, the dragon looked at the fool before it and coughed up a ball of fire.
'Easy, Darkness Metal Dragon...first I need to use your special power! Become a Beacon that draws more of your kind forwards! Liberate the other dragon stuck in my hand so I can also bring forth the normal Red-Eyes Black Dragon!'
The mighty dragon with a metallic hide, let loose a powerful roar that turned to become something as a rally call. When Crimson placed the card in it's place, the new and younger dragon (less advanced and more nimble built) rose from bright flames in it's Black scaled glory. Roaring ferociously before evolving into a complete copy of the Metal Dragon but without the organic Steel hide. The Darkness dragon, rose it's wings high and proudly took position.
'Then, there's two more spells I play, Heavy Storm and Soul Taker! These wipe your board clean so my mighty monsters can sate the urge I have been nursing for quite some time. Then you'll pay for it all'
With his entire board destroyed and left wide open for three dragons and a celestial warrior, Duatan could do nothing more but plea. As the reality sunk in that it was game over as soon as Crimson gave the order.
'Why? What have I ever done to you??'
'Done? You don't remember the Rainbow Dragon then? The card granted by an idol to a fan?'
'Should I? You're stalking me sick fuck!'
'Lara Drado...'
'Who?'
'DON'T FUCK WITH ME DISGUSTING ASSHOLE! I know you know who that was!'
'Lara...Drado...she was...'
'Found dead in your home after you raped and killed her. These Dragons all want a piece of you and I'll be more then happy to feed them your soul, as you took the Rainbow's owner away! Jesse Anderson entrusted the Crystal Beasts to Lara, and you took her away!'
'They are but mere cards you idiot!'
'Can a real card do this?'
Crimson rose his hand, a signal that was followed by a single ping. The Amathyst gem started glowing as if it was kindled. Then the rest of them all began pinging, something dangerous was rising from the dragon. As the Ruby lit up, the mighty creature opened it's mouth as a rainbow reflected of it's teeth. Breaking the sound barrier, the full blast of four thousand attack points were blasted in a shining white beam that collided with Duatan. Who screamed in utter pain! Half of his life points were instantly depleted but unlike Crimson who had willingly payed them earlier, this was an attack. A runaway train slammed itself into the dumb fuck's body. Sending a sensation through the nerves that told the brain one thing: that beam of cosmic energy was real and melted through the very skin. Unable to contain this pain, being skilled alive by acid was less painful, Duatan's voice echoed as loud as a train honking. Screaming lungs and air for relief as this was unbearable! When finally the beam was gone and the damage dealt, what remained was a humanoid body that had several spots bitten clean off by corrosive acid. The energy of the Rainbow Dragon's beam was just to powerful. Physical pain, as raw and pure that it would almost be good there was another thing coming. See, the Shadow Realm made the attacks real, each brink of pain was dished out full force. But, while the Seal had already added salt into the wounds by spicing up the creatures on Crimson's side, it's logo plastered between each of their eyes, there was still more to come. The Shadows now had the right to eat away half of his soul, inflicting a small splinter of a fraction that was eternal torment. If the previous was pain, the next was utter mind numbing destruction. His soul, or the sorry excuse for it anyway, was ripped into a million pieces.
'How...this is...a game...i feel...pain...'
'I told you, dumb shit...now are you willing to remember? The Shadows must have shown you by now...'
'You're her...brother..I killed...sister..'
'Yes, there we go. Now I can finish this, end this Darkness Dragons! Eatos, Blast his mind into oblivion!'
Both dragons reeled their heads back in a thunderous roar. While Eatos' eyes rippled with a power only she possessed. That's when the Darkness dragon released a blast of infernal dark fire, grey and black flames that danced with a mix of blood red. Darkness Metal went few degrees higher: releasing deep black and navy blue flames. These flames would melt bones and boil blood. The Celestial Warrior opened her mouth and fired a stream of blue and white energy, celestial energy. As these three attacks collided with the sick bastard, his world was like a mirror that shattered. A pain that would turn his body into dust overloaded his senses, without granting him the relief of passing out. His blood boiled the organs in his body, while his skin melted away in puddles everywhere. His eyes were instantly destroyed and the nerves deeply hidden in spine and bone ended fried like a microwave. There was no body left, just an ethereal half formed shape that stared blandly forwards.
'You killed me...'
'You reap what you sow...now, feed the shadows...'
After that, all the mist dissipated while a last scream echoed through Crimson's mind. The Shadows had claimed their price and would begin an eternity of torture so horrible it could make the blind see and the deaf hear. A mind as powerful and strong as a god would be reduced to mere bits and pieces after being smashed over and over by a hammer. Never would that soul ever find peace, only endless torment that can't be described. Worse then having his blood replaced by nitrogen or the air inside his lungs turned glass. Duatan was a person wiped from existence. While this wouldn't bring back his sister, this gave some closure, knowing that long after Crimson would pass away that bastard would still pay for what he had done. Penance for eternity. He looked at four cards: The Seal of Orichalcos, Guardian Eatos, Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon and the Rainbow Dragon. The cards still pulsed with energy. But a different kind. They were at peace now. Lara Drado was avenged. When sirens of the law began echoing, Crimson placed his earplugs back and hit the play button. Music rang into his ears once more...
Ride forever onwards stare into the sun Where hopes and dreams are everlasting marching on and on Rise another day across the distant skies Where the dawn above the winter moonlight shines upon the fall of our lives
