It is unmistakable the case that the film bets about 115% of its success on the Blunt / Johnson pairing, and this is almost worth it. None of the actors are stretching one bit, but none of them are exactly lazy; the point is to see a couple of old-fashioned movie star twists, where actors do exactly what we want them to do and they do it very well. And this is fine, as far as it goes, except there is never exactly "chemistry" between the two. And this happened sometimes with old-fashioned movie stars, too: the studios would put two of their hired players together, just to see what happened. Sometimes it worked wonders. Sometimes you just have two very enjoyable performances of likeable and charismatic actors persistently running in parallel with each other, without really "clicking". And that's what we get in Jungle Cruise, where Lily and Frank always seem like very cordial co-workers, legitimately happy to see each other, but not exactly friends, and definitely not romantic partners in the way the committee-created script would like. . that are. Just a couple of professionals doing a joint job with someone they know they can trust to get the job done right. The first time I went to Disneyland I was 32 years old. Jungle Cruise is a ride that many theme park lovers encourage beginners to visit, so I waited in line for 45 minutes and was very disappointed. Thank goodness the new movie, starring Dwayne Johnson, Emily Blunt, Édgar Ramírez, Jack Whitehall, Jesse Plemons and Paul Giamatti, is much more entertaining. Jungle Cruise, directed by Jaume Collet-Serra from a story by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa and a script by Michael Green, Ficarra and Requa, is a live-action adventure based on the famous Disneyland attraction starring two of the Most charismatic actors in the business: Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Emily Blunt. As entertaining as this movie is, the script makes decisions that prevent a good movie from turning into a great one. Lily Houghton (Blunt) is an idealistic botanist who seeks the "tears of the moon", an ancient indigenous plant from Brazil with healing powers. Her goal is to obtain a petal from the tree in hopes of saving lives, so she, along with her brother Macgregor (Whitehall), travels to South America with nothing but a holy arrowhead and a map. Upon her arrival, the couple meet Frank Wolff (Johnson), a patron who scams visitors with boating on the Amazon River. Lily is looking for a boat, Frank has a boat, and after some maneuvering and lying, the trio agree to be fellow travelers. Sadly, they're not the only ones looking for the petal, and Germany's Prince Joaquin (Plemons) and 400-year-old Conquistador Aguirre (Ramírez) will complicate the journey. Jungle Cruise clearly takes a lot of its cues from movies like Indiana Jones, The Mummy, Romancing the Stone, and The African Queen. It doesn't stand on its own with so much gleaned from previous creative work, but that's not a bad thing here. Jungle Cruise is as funny and hilarious as its inspiration, and the sparks between the lead actors bring this film to life. Individually, Rock and Blunt are already incredibly charming, but as a duo, they create a rhythm of movement and sound that makes their dynamite chemistry jump off the screen and hit you in the face. This is only reinforced by the fact that the two of them are absentmindedly attractive with the most electric smiles, which kept me smiling throughout. Disney's live-action movie is certainly a step forward for director Jaume Collet-Serra, whose previous films include House of Wax (2005) and The Shallows (2016). Apparently he has developed a good working relationship with The Rock, as he is also directing the Warner Bros. DC superhero movie Black Adam. Collet-Serra's captivating and dynamic steering captures fast-paced action crisply and cleanly, avoiding the static and shaky camera look that Disney movies can sometimes be subjected to. However, the cinematographic highlight is the cinematography of Flavio Martínez Labiano. Each scene is perfectly lit and colored in a strangely heady way that gives the film that cinematic look from Hollywood's 1950s Golden Age.

I’m mostly noting when the episodes take place based off what we’ve been given of the shows timeline, using the help of @lucifer-is-a-bag-of-dicks ‘s timeline of events as the base, I want to figure out how much time is between episodes

for ease if a episodes air date is within the month it’s speculated to be in, and the episode doesn't establish in universe what day it is, im using that date

mostly because im giving my boy a job or, seven so i need it for a baseline of his fund’s throughout the story and know what he can buy throughout

(spoilers: there 118 + days of plot happening in danny phantom, and actually figuring out how much time they spend NOT in plot will have to be done later becouse i was up until 5 making this)

reign storm- timeframe unclear, at least 2 (an implication that the fentons do not have guest rooms is made when jack offers dannys room to vlad for if he wants to sleep over. which either implies a blow up mattress situation or telling danny to give up his room and sleep on the couch)

identity crisis- 3 days ( “No son of mine say’s who cares about ghosts!” jack fenton, before dragging his teenager into the dangerous world of ghost hunting)

the fenton menace -5 days (fentons attempt to spin the crazy out of danny, danny gains the word crazy as a trigger word, I begin to hate this family)

this gives us a grand total of 118 days of ghost fighting/plot that we KNOW happened, not theoretical weeks of drought or however long a montage is

The highlight of my viewing experience was finding out they're making a jungle river cruise movie the entire time Kyle or whatever was being boring on screen I kept thinking about how exciting it is that there's going to be another bad ride based movie to torrent w my friends next year

In 2017, the Environmental Agency of Iceland closed one among the country's biggest tourist attractions, the canyon of Fjaðrárgljúfur, after a huge influx of tourists. In an interview with CNN, Hannes Sasi Palsson, the owner of an Iceland tourism company said, "That a part of the country simply can't deal with all those stomping feet." to urge your fix of surreal landscapes, consider visiting a U.S. park-like Bryce Canyon instead.

6 Pig Beach, the Bahamas

The novelty of swimming with pigs draws thousands of tourists per annum to Big Major Cay, an uninhabited island in Exuma, the Bahamas. Sadly, the population of the feral pigs has significantly dwindled thanks to tourist misbehavior. In 2017, seven of the creatures died after being fed alcohol by tourists. Back on the banks of the Jungle Cruise, things seemed to be looking up for the Time Twins.

"Good news," Acronix said, pulling up a hologram on his Borg Watch, "is that the temporal anomaly locater still works, and I found another Timeblade..."

Krux nodded in thought, eyes fixed on the red dot currently hovering over whatever this 'Haunted Mansion' thing was.

"...the bad news," Acronix continued, "is that it's on the move."

"That explains all the racket coming from the temple earlier," Krux replied, "it probably caused another rift. No matter, we'll just find the others first and take whoever's got it by surprise!"

Smirking at his brother's cleverness, Acronix zoomed out the map..... only to find it coated in dozens of red dots!!!!

"Seriously!?!?" The Time Twins groaned in unison.

There goes that plan.....

While I felt giddy about plunging headfirst into my favorite season, I was more nervous than I thought I'd be as we made our way through the last stretch of the garden/graveyard that made up the Mansion's queue.

The vaguely ominous mood was only enhanced by the wind that seemed to be gusting harder and harder as we got closer, as though a certain someone were already trying to deter us......

"Wow," I said to Jade, clearing my head for a moment, "that's an impressive armory you whipped up! I've only got two sport-top bottles in my bag."

The line moved up as the large group ahead of us was led into the foyer, with the cast member cutting off the line at our party; leaving us on the porch with our various water-works clutched tight and our nerves running high!

Which was kind of unfortunate for the poor sap who was about to answer our prayers.

I felt a tap on my back, followed by "Is this the tour for Yang-"

Without really processing what the voice said, I screamed and shot a torrent of water at the mysterious intruder! This caused a chain reaction as the rest of you soaked him as well!

"Well," none other than the Earth Ninja himself said as we all calmed down, "nice to see you're prepared. I'm Cole, and I kinda lost track of my friends. They were in the last tour through here, have you seen them?"

I was blushing hard from embarrassment, we just nearly drowned one of my favorite ninja! Thank the FSM that he hadn't been turned into a ghost yet...

"We haven't seen them," I said, "but I think they're in here. You can come with us if you want."

Cole gave a thumbs up and joined our group, which was just in time as a cast member began to usher our party into the dark foyer. I look over at Kris, who seemed lost in thought yet nervous.

"Hey," I nudged Kris, "everything alright? You know, I'm actually getting some butterflies in my stomach too..."

Dune Box Office Breaks WB-HBO Max Record, Good Sign for Part Two

The spice must flow, and for the most devoted cinephiles in North America it tasted like popcorn and concessions this weekend. With Denis Villeneuve’s Dune finally in theaters in the U.S. (as well as UK, China, and several other significant markets), the science fiction epic commences its greatest battle—against being released simultaneously on HBO Max. And as of right now, it’s doing relatively well with an estimated box office take of $40.1 million in its opening weekend.

This number, which comes from Warner Bros., makes Dune the first WB/HBO Max hybrid release to open north of $31.6 million at the box office—a record set in March by Godzilla vs. Kong during a period when many theaters were still closed, and social distancing was more strictly enforced. It also beat out studio projections. With that said, it’s admittedly not the type of debut one usually associates with a pop culture phenomenon.

Nonetheless, Warners executives are likely breathing a sigh of relief, as Dune is performing above the studios’ $30-$35 million projections and is doing probably as well as can be expected given the circumstances of its day-and-date release strategy. Hence one of many reasons for director Villeneuve’s now notorious frustration with the film’s rollout (Legendary Pictures, meanwhile, settled an apparently hefty deal with WB after being blindsided by WarnerMedia’s decision to put the picture on day-and-date streaming).

As indicated by the small record it broke, hybrid release models have been revealed in 2021 to generally put a cap on the earning power of a film, particularly after opening weekend. This is not only because of audiences who opt to watch the film at home with a subscription service they’re already paying for, but also because of all the other audiences who’d rather not pay at all and will have easy access to HD pirated copies on torrent sites around the world.

Last week, Halloween Kills shocked the industry when it earned $49.4 million in its opening weekend despite also being available on Peacock. However, that overperformance speaks as much to Peacock’s small paid subscription audience as it does to the film’s ability to break free from the limitations of a day-and-date strategy. Or another way to put that is NBC-Universal put Halloween Kills behind a paywall on Peacock in order to emulate the WB/HBO Max model which since Christmas of last year has conditioned its subscribers to expect expensive Hollywood content like Wonder Woman 1984, Godzilla vs. Kong, and The Suicide Squad for no additional cost.

More comparable to WB/HBO Max is Disney+’s Premier Access strategy. While that is more cost prohibitive since it adds on a luxurious $30 surcharge on top of Disney+ subscriptions to access new theatrical releases, it is still on a platform with wide distribution—wider, in fact, than HBO Max. Nevertheless, with the exception of Marvel Studios’ Black Widow, no Disney+ Premier Access hybrid release has done better than $35 million in its opening weekend, a feat achieved once by Jungle Cruise in July.

So by the non-Marvel superhero metric, Dune is performing at the extremely high-end of day-and-date blockbuster releases. While that is hardly the type of news to be jumping for joy about, it is encouraging since Dune being put on HBO Max changed the goalposts of what is successful. Essentially, Dune was transformed overnight into a loss leader in the hopes of buttressing WarnerMedia’s pricy new streaming service. As long as it performed well in views on the service, and well enough in theaters, it could still be labeled a success—or at least successful enough for the studio to greenlight a sequel.

Villeneuve has certainly hinted at this being the case, recently telling Total Film that “everybody at Warner Bros. and Legendary, they are 100 percent behind the project. They feel that it would need a really bad outcome at the box office to not have a Dune Part Two because they love the movie. They are proud of the movie, so they want the movie to move forward.”

Well, Dune Part One just had a solid—if not amazing—box office premiere given the albatross WarnerMedia hung around the movie’s neck. Additionally, Villeneuve’s first Dune movie has performed exceedingly well in smaller markets throughout Europe and Asia where it opened last month, grossing about $130 million globally as of Friday, and ahead of the threat of online piracy. The film is also expected to have opened at more than $20 million in China over this weekend, which is an encouraging sign of a healthy run in Hollywood’s biggest foreign market.

So Dune’s record may not be amazing, especially in light of the eye-popping pandemic numbers posted this fall by Shang-Chi, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, and even No Time to Die (to a lesser extent). However, it could possibly be good enough for the studio to feel ready to roll the dice on Villeneuve again and get at least Dune Part Two made. If that did happen though, one suspects the director might get in his contract an exclusive theatrical release. Just a hunch.

Shang-Chi Box Office Sets Record, Shows Viability of Movie Theaters in Fall

After a weekend like this, one might wonder if folks huddled around a Disney conference table are giving the whole “Premier Access” thing on Disney+ a rethink. They should since the Shang-Chi box office obliterated previous Labor Day weekend records and is currently on track to earn upwards of $85 million over the four-day holiday in the U.S.

The superhero origin story, which introduces a new masked avenger to the Marvel Cinematic Universe—a first for the studio since Captain Marvel back in spring 2021—posted the third best opening day during the COVID-19 pandemic by grossing an estimated $29.6 million on Friday. More impressive still, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is currently projected to earn $67.8 million for the traditional three-day opening weekend frame and $85 million over the four days when you factor in Monday.

The holiday typically signifies the end of the summer season for Americans, which is why historically Labor Day has been a death knell at the box office where most folks would rather be at the beach, mountains, barbecuing, or anywhere other than inside of a theater. But then again, no previous Labor Day has seen a release of a Marvel Studios movie. Hence Shang-Chi blowing past the previous dubious winner of the Labor Day opening record, 2007’s Halloween remake from Rob Zombie, which earned a respectable $30.6 million in the same timeframe 14 years ago. Notably, Christopher Nolan’s Tenet attempted to do something similar to Shang-Chi’s current success in 2020 when the sci-fi action movie opened in the U.S. over the same holiday… to infamously lower results.

That contrast should give the industry pause, however, as anxieties about the fall movie season slate and the role in streaming in a post-pandemic world continue to grow. Earlier this week, Paramount Pictures delayed the hotly anticipated Top Gun: Maverick from Thanksgiving Day weekend of this year to Memorial Day 2022. The abundance of caution appeared based on a growing apprehension among moviegoers about returning to the cinema as the Delta variant (and the vast number of unvaccinated Americans) causes COVID infection rates to spike in the U.S. Some even pointed to that resurgence in infections as the primary reason another superhero movie, James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, flopped at the box office last month.

However, the success of Shang-Chi punctures holes in some of those assumptions and raises the question of just how damaging, say, releasing The Suicide Squad on HBO Max the same day it premiered in theaters was to that film (which already had plenty of other baggage due to the last Suicide Squad movie).

Conversely, if you treat Shang-Chi’s four-day weekend as comparable to other films’ non-holiday debuts over three days, then the Marvel original is on track to set a box office pandemic record, speeding past F9’s $70 million and just nudging by Black Widow’s previous record of $80 million. This is particularly notable because while the $80 million was impressive for Black Widow in July, it was still likely below what this more established superhero character could’ve earned if her movie opened exclusively in theaters. Disney even bragged at the time that the Natasha Romanoff movie also earned $60 million via Disney+’s Premier Access paywall in the same weekend, which quickly became ironic since that streaming availability (as well as its subsequent free availability on pirate torrent sites) likely caused Black Widow to sink like a stone at the box office the following weekend. It’s also a development which contributed to Scarlett Johansson’s ongoing lawsuit against the House Mouse, and the current debate over whether talent should be allowed to participate in grosses generated by streaming, as they currently do in box office profits.

Well, if Shang-Chi can maintain a similar trajectory to other Marvel films in the coming week and weekends, it really should give Disney pause. While Black Widow performed like a lower-tier Marvel Studios hit its opening weekend, its collapse in the following week puts it in company with Disney’s other previous experimentations with the Disney+ Premier Access model. Despite both having current greenlit sequels, Cruella and Jungle Cruise each underperformed at the box office while premiering day and date on Disney+ Premier Access and in theaters, not unlike every Warner Bros. Pictures release this season that also simultaneously premiered on HBO Max. To date, none of WB’s “hybrid” releases have opened better at the box office than Godzilla vs. Kong, which took in $31.6 million last March… back when a significant portion of North American movie theaters were still closed and practicing stricter social distancing.

Meanwhile F9 and A Quiet Place Part II, both sequels in an established and popular franchise, have grossed about $700 million and $300 million, respectively while being exclusive theatrical releases. Shang-Chi is Disney’s first Marvel release to open exclusively in theaters since Avengers: Endgame, and if it can earn more than Black Widow at the height of summer when consumer confidence was higher in the safety of moviegoing (and it will), then the viability of streaming day and date releases is going to look increasingly suspect.

This should come as a boon for studios eyeballing their upcoming fall releases, particularly anticipated franchise sequels like the James Bond movie, No Time to Die, Halloween Kills, and Venom: Let There Be Carnage in October. Despite all the anxiety about the current state of moviegoing, it turns out if you put out a product audiences want (which admittedly appears to largely be familiar franchise tentpoles at the moment), then they will still show up.
