Made up a silly little desertduo Kallocain AU in my head satirically. But like. The combined is a little too much I fear. Uhhh

I don't fucking remember if I've broken down the roles before, but it goes like this:

Mumbo is a science dude. He works in The Chemistry City Nr.4, as well as dabbles in military training (as everyone in the state do). He is married to Grian. Probably plantonically because I cannot bring myself to do hermitshipping I'm sorry I'm not that strong. Mumbo is also increasingly paranoid about about Grian's thoughts and feelings, as well as his relationship to one Scar.

Scar is also a science dude within the same city. He and Grian know each other from work (military. Grian is not a science dude). Mumbo and Scar does not particularly get along, and he believes Scar to be far too friendly and relaxed to be taken seriously. And as Mumbo grows more and more paranoid, he starts to go from being merely annoyed by Scar to being extremely suspicious of him, to the point where he nearly (or actually, it's an open ending) gets Scar executed by the State. Why?

Mumbo has invested a truth serum. Scar is pretty much his boss/overseer/assistant in this whole process. Oh, and the State they live in is like. A huge military overseeing esc place, where the people are more like ants that exist to serve the state and individuality and personhood and sentimentality is strictly prohibited and punishable with death. Typical dystopian stuff. And so, his truth serum is originally used to make criminals confess immediately, but it turns into a means to "combat immoral thoughts before they become actions".

Oh, and there's also this high esteemed chief of the police guy who constantly intimated the shit out of the protagonist, and who he constantly wants to impress. Making that guy Doc.

Then there's also some test subjects that squabble about a ruined marriage. I can think of multiple people to put in there. Either I make it a double life reference, or I make it like. Imp and Skizz. Because the lady who played the wife in a stage production I saw of the book had massive Skizz vibes so I can see it. Otherwise, either Ren and BigB or Impulse and Bdubs. The lady also had Bfubs vibes. Tho, the husband had BigB vibes,,, there are things to consider here
