Sister Kent - Chapter Two
Ted Lasso/OC (Roy Kent's Little Sister) (FanFiction) - PG
Takes place in season one, the night the Roy goes to Ted's flat and talks to him (and gets offered peanut butter). Ted and Roy's little sister hit it off.
This is a rough draft as always and I wrote this to be 4 chapters. Hope you enjoy.

Chapter Two:
Juliet was sitting in the office of one Rebecca Welton. "Thank you again so much for this opportunity."
"Of course, you came highly recommended and you have family here. Makes you less likely to take off at some point, and then I'm not stuck hiring my fifth physiotherapist in two and a half years." Said Rebecca as she leaned back in her seat.
Higgens when to open his mouth to speak when a knock came on the door. "Bing-bong! It's biscuits o'clock." Turning herself Juliet brought her eyes to see Ted standing in the doorway, backpack on and two small boxes and a to-go cup in his hands.
"Higgins! You're back!" Ted said cheerfully as he entered the room and came to stand in the empty space between Juliet and Higgins.
"Yeah!" Replied Higgins.
"All right. Well, hey, I know I may be a little too old-school for some folks but I'm gonan say it anyway. Hell to the yeah." Ted then carefully handed one box over to Rebecca. "Here you go, boss. Those are yours."
"Thank you, Ted."
"And these are for Higgins. I had a hunch you were gonna be here." Ted then handed the second box over to Higgins.
"Yeah?"
"Actually, those were for Trent Crimm's daughter. She turns three today. But it means more to me if you had 'em."
It took everything in her to not laugh as Juliet watched Higgin's face changed from one of happiness to horror. "What? No. No, no."
Ted waved his hand in the air and took a small step back. "No. It's okay. She won't remember."
From the little Juliet knew of Ted, she figured he had to be messing with Higgins, and that he would never deprive a little girl of cookies.
"Oh, Ted, you've already told her?" Said an exasperated but smiling Rebecca.
"Yeah, weeks ago. She's been looking forward to it. But she's three. She'll bounce right back. It'll be fine."
Higgins who was now shaking with fear looked to Juliet as if she was a life line. "No way. I can't."
Finally Ted let out a laugh and then the others followed. "I'm screwing with you. I'm just messing around." He patted Higgins shoulder. "I predicted this whole thing, and I made those myself for you."
An audible sigh left Higgins. "Oh. Thank you."
"Just like I predicted I should bring a cup of hot brown morning potion for Ms. Capulet." Ted held out the large cup to Juliet with a large smile. "A little birdy told me that you like one cream two sugar."
"Thank you, Montague." Juliet replied as she took the offered cup from Ted.
"What is happening?" Asked Rebecca, who was drifting her gaze between the two in question. "Do you two know each other?"
"I had the pleasure of meeting Ms. Kent last night." Ted motioned to Juliet with a smile.
Juliet responded with a quite chuckle and then looked from Ted to Rebecca. "He let me stick my finger in his peanut butter."
Rebecca's eyebrow raised and she looked between the two trying to figure out what she was missing from the conversation and if peanut butter was a euphemism for something.
"Do you mind if I steal Juliet here, I promised her I'd give her the old Ted Lasso tour of the grounds?"
"I was gonna have Higgins show her around but by all means Ted go ahead. Just be sure to come back before the end of the day and we will finish out the rest of the paper work.
Juliet stood from her chair and looked to Rebecca. "Thank you once again for this opportunity." She gave her dress pants an unconscious smooth and reached down to pick up her backpack.
"I hope it works out, I'm really am getting tired of hiring new physiotherapists." Rebecca responded with a laugh.
"Here allow me Milday." Ted said while holding out a hand in the direction of Juliet's backpack.
Figuring he was not the type to argue with she held out the extremely worn leather bag. Once the strap was in his palm he took the weight of it and gave a grunt as he let himself fall towards the floor slightly, then stood back up with a laugh. "I'm just messing with ya." Ted gave a laugh and then motioned for Juliet to follow him. "I can't wait to introduce you to the rest of the team."
Once the two of them were out of the room, Higgins turned back to Rebecca. "We don't think..."
"No." Rebecca said quickly, picking up her box of biscuits. She looked sure in her answer until her eyebrows scrunched together and pursed her lips as she stared back at Higgins.
"Neah." They both quickly said.
Ted opened the door to the physio room and allowed Juliet to enter first. "So this will be your new home away from home. I thought for sure that Phillip, who replaced Gail, who replaced Susan, who replaced other Phillip, who replaced Michael, was gonna stick around. Heck, I figured about our little cleansing ritual we would have expelled any of that negative energy."
"Oh you guys cleaned out the place?' Asked Juliet as she looked around the room.
"No like for reals. The recovery room was cursed by the spirits of all these dead solders."
Juliet looked back to where Ted was stood in the entry to the room and shrugged her shoulders. "Perhaps I need to sacrifice something to the Richmond spirits too."
A large smile appeared on Ted's face at the genuine response from Juliet. "Your office is just behind there." Ted pointed towards a door with a large glass frosted window. "Did you wanna leave your bag there for the meantime. Phillip already cleared out everything for you and plans on just working from in here for the last little bit."
"Oh, sure. That was nice of him."
Opening the door to the office Juliet found a decent sized wooden desk housing a computer and a few boxes of random office supplies. A row of filing cabinets along was sat along one wall, and a large x-ray film viewer across the other. "So how long have you been doin' this for?" Asked Ted who had come to stand next to her in the room now.
"I graduated two years ago. After I got my degrees I got hired on at the clinic I had been interning at." Juliet took her backpack from Ted and laid it down on the top of the desk.
"Degrees?"
"I have a degree in Sports Medicine and Physiotherapy. I originally wanted to get into orthopedic surgery, but then I realized I preferred being pro-active to re-active. I find my enjoyment out of helping to create long term solutions as apposed to just cutting into someone."
Juliet looked up to Ted with a smile on her face. "Maybe it's silly, but I want to make a difference with the people I help, work with them, as apposed to just slapping a solution on them and never seeing them again."
"I couldn't agree more Juliet." Said Ted softly.
Unzipping her backpack Juliet reached inside and pulled out a soft brown crocheted plushy. Juliet sat the object down on the edge of her desk and settled the bottom of it so that it rested upright. Ted tilted his head slightly to examine the object. "Is that a potato?"
"It's my emotional support potato. Phoebe got it for me. I had been talking with my sister about being conflicted on what I wanted to do, and how I thought she would be disappointed in me. Think I was quitting, before I had even really started."
Ted leaned down to examine the white card that the potato's tiny arms were holding. "I may be a tiny potato, but I believe in you. Go do your thing. Good words to live by." Said Ted as he straightened up. "Come on, let's get you introduced to the rest of the gang, and then the real tour starts."
"Oh, the real tour. Feel like you are about to show me some magical wardrobe that takes me to another world."
"More like a door that leads to a very stinky boot room." Ted's nose scrunched up imposing the unpleasant expertise she was sure to have in only moments. "Oh hey, wanna play like you don't know your brother plays here?"
A soft giggle left Juliet before she moved around the desk and both her and Ted exited the room.
Making their way down the hall, Ted led Juliet into the managers office. When they entered through the doorway Juliet immediately noticed a man sitting on a cabinet fidgeting with his hands, and another man sat with his feet propped up on the top of the desk, book in hand.
"Coach Beard, our Kit Man Nathan Shelley, I would like to introduce the newest member of our team. Staring in the role of team Physiotherapist, Ms. Juliet Kent."
The man with his feet up immediately dropped his book down from in front of his face and looked her over, with a slight squint. "Kent?"
"It's a pleasure to meet you." Said Juliet with a smile.
"Kent?"
"Yup." Replied Ted.
"Kent..." The man in the desk said again as he pointed out into the locker room. "Like the footballer Roy Kent, of the Richmond Hounds, Roy Kent?"
"OH MY GOD, this is the Richmond Hounds isn't it? My bother plays here!" Juliet all but shouted, her hands came up to cover her mouth in surprise and her eyes went wide.
Ted let a laugh slip from his lips, and slowly Coach Beards face changed to that of realization. "I thought you were an Emergency Doctor?"
"That's the other sister." Said Juliet.
"I didn't know Roy Kent had another sister." Spoke Nathan from beside her. "Umm, Ted, can I talk to you a moment."
"Sure thing."
Ted and Nathan left the room, leaving Juliet alone with Beard. "So Coach Beard, before Ted get's back wanna make up a secret handshake?"
"You're crazy will fit in here just fine." Beard placed his book down on the desk and look at Juliet with an evil smirk. "And yes, always yes."
By the time Ted and Nathan had come back into the room, Beard and Juliet were putting the final touches on their handshake, and quickly separated once they had company. "Did yawl just make up a secret handshake already?"
"No." Replied Juliet and Beard at the same time.
"Hmm, I see how it is." Said Ted with a smirk.

Miggy - Magnum PI - S4 Ep 20
Those who read this blog know I love to break down ships and go in-depth with Metas. I’ve done the entirety of the first season of A Discovery of Witches. I’ve covered Theloise (Theo and Eloise) in Bridgerton Season 2, and today I want to do a MINI Meta of Thomas Magnum and Juliet Higgins in the Season Finale of Magnum PI.
SPOILER ALERT: This is a Meta, so I will spoil the entirety of this episode. Yes, I’m taking it from the Miggy point-of-view, and I’m obviously a fan. But, I’m also going to dive into the performances because I feel like Perdita Weeks and Jay Hernandez gave their all to this.
Considering his very vocal objections to this ship as anything other than a series finale send-off, I respect the heck outta him for not holding anything back from the performance.
Ready? Steady... Let’s Go!
“Juliet, do you want a romantic relationship with Magnum?”
Juliet starts her morning off running, her music turned up loud. But, despite the adrenaline rushing and the endorphins coursing through her body, she can’t distract her mind. There’s too much noise in there, considering the events of the day before.
Yes, it was one day earlier that Thomas Magnum stood nervously in the wine cellar, gathering his courage to extend a vague enough offer to gauge Juliet’s interest.
Yes, it was one day earlier that she shattered his heart with news that she had other plans.
Yes, it was one day earlier that she called up her therapist for an emergency session because she couldn’t shut out the feelings anymore.
Today is a new day... a day of action.
“It’s better than the alternative.” “Which is what?” “Saying no to what you really want.”
Juliet is at a standstill, which is so poetic. All season she’s been running... running from her thoughts. Running from her dreams. Running from the realization that Magnum, yes, THOMAS MAGNUM is the one she wants.
The words play back in her mind, and she comes to a terrifying decision... she’s going to do this.
Juliet takes a deep breath, then sets off-camera. She’s no longer running. She’s no longer drowning it all out. She’s ready.
Now, I want to pause for a moment to acknowledge that from what we’ve seen of Higgins and relationships, the early stages are not her forte. Even with Ethan, she was terrified of getting hurt, and even wanted to run a background check on him.
Thomas is not unknown in the same sense. She knows who he is at his best and his worst. She’s walked by his side when she could barely stand him, as they formed a functional partnership, and as they transitioned to best friends.
The unknown is what comes next.
If he wants to be with her, then they have to navigate their partnership, their friendship, their ohana, and their own emotions. If he doesn’t, then she will feel awkward and embarrassed for ever broaching the subject. If they try it and fail, they could lose everything.
But the noise is too loud for her to shut out any longer. She has to try.
“Thomas?” “Higgins.”
Juliet takes one more breath, then knocks before slipping into Magnum’s Guest House. It’s obvious from the get-go that she’s feeling extremely awkward. But, she’s committed to this. Let’s go.
“Uh, normally, you know and wait for a response.” “But some people use knocking as a heads-up.”
He smirks at this, but he can already tell something’s off. It’s not like the two of them seek each other out often without reason. The day before, it was him seeking her out to ask her out. Today, it’s her turn. Of course, he doesn’t know that, and she doesn’t know who he has in his bedroom.
Okay, I know that sounds more salacious than intended, but if you’ve seen the episode, you know it works out in the end.
“Are you okay?” “Me? I’m fine.”
Juliet feels completely awkward, here, but he’s also a little guarded. At first, we don’t know why, but a part of him must know that Higgy’s going to be caught off-guard to see Lia back in the Guest House.
“The reason I came over is... Well, I want to tell you something. I just want to make sure that I, that I get it right.”
She’s already avoiding his gaze, fiddling with her fingers. He’s intrigued, but guarded. There’s no way he can guess what she was about to say. In fact, he looks like he’s bracing for bad news.
“Thomas, have you seen my jacket?”
And every shipper shouted expletives in one voice, so loud the world briefly tremored with its power. Juliet, herself, feels the shock.
She backs away from the counter, putting distance between herself and the perceived couple on the other side.
“Excuse me for a second.”
Lia turns to get some coffee (and for those who were paying attention, Thomas did have two coffee mugs out at the very top of the scene... a little early warning system I know I missed the first viewing).
Thomas walks around the counter, separating himself from Lia and trying to reconnect with Higgy.
He doesn’t know what she was about to say, but he can tell that whatever it was, the walls that came down to open her up to whatever it was are going back up fast.
“Higgins, do you want to talk privately?”
She can’t even look at him. What she was about to do was so hard for her... to muster the courage to risk everything... and here he is... with Lia.
“No, no, no. It’s fine. Don’t worry. It’s not important.”
She’s deflecting. It really is important—and she knows it—but she can’t go there, now. She has to retreat, to refortify, to recover.
“Bye, Lia. It’s good to see you.”
She takes the out.
Higgins retreats outside the Guest House, giving herself a moment to catch her breath. As she does, reality sets in...
She was too late.
“Nothing happened. You know, the only reason why she spent the  night is because she drank too much... I actually slept on the couch. So, like I said, nothing happened.”
Thomas is absolutely on the defensive. He knows that Higgy had a strong reaction to Lia, and he doesn’t know what it was.
“When Higgins saw her, uh, she had this look. It was, it was very subtle, but it was like she was disappointed. And I didn’t even do anything wrong!”
Thomas is perceptive. I remember at the beginning of the MI-6 story line I kept wondering when he’d sort the whole thing out. I was so happy when he did.
Thomas is capable. He’s not the world’s leader on emotions, no, but he’s a solid detective, and he knows Higgins better than anyone.
“I’d be thankful that you found out about Higgins and Cole before you said anything.”
The thing that stood out to me the first time I watched this scene was how casually the three of them were talking about his love life, even so far as Higgy was concerned. We all witnessed the confession to Rick, but at some point TC was looped in, as well.
It serves as a nice call-back to the end of Season 3 when TC and Rick were encouraging Magnum to shoot his shot with the newly-single Higgins.
Thomas nods to Rick’s declaration. So, he’s got it in his head that Higgins and Cole are definitely a thing. So, there’s no way he knows why she was really disappointed.
“Hey, um, about last night. I just wanted to say nothing happened. Between me and Lia. I know what it looked like. And, uh, yeah, nothing happened.”
Seizing his moment, Thomas wants desperately for Higgy to know that nothing happened between him and Lia. In the back of his mind, despite the “Cole” obstacle (that’s a non-obstacle), I think he’s still hopeful.
He’s hoping for some sign from Higgy that this is the source of her discomfort... some level of jealousy. But, she shuts him down with some nonsense about him being a grown adult.
“It just seemed like you were bothered or... maybe not bothered, but... something.”
Her defenses are on high alert. It took a lot for her to be vulnerable that morning, and her walls have snapped back into place. Firewalls upon firewalls. But, Magnum sees it as a brush off. He doesn’t understand the internal battle she’s experiencing. Instead, he thinks that she isn’t interested, so he lets it go.
“Good luck.” “You, too.”
It’s not that they don’t face dangerous situations all the time. They do. But most of them are spontaneously dangerous—being discovered mid-job by bad guys, getting ambushed, a situation turns on its head.
This time, they’re walking into danger headlong fully aware that none of them may make it out alive. It’s not the time for speeches. They’re both too professional for that. But this little exchange shows their headspace—they’re concerned for the other, but know they have a job to do.
And should we get a Season 5, I really think that’s the proper headspace for the pair of them going forward... but I’m getting ahead of myself.
“Go!”
Thomas finds Higgins and Whelan, and they tell him where Gordon’s gone.
There’s no hesitation on Higgins’ part. She’s a capable woman who can hold the position well no matter what comes at them. Gordon needs Magnum in that moment, and they both know it.
Again, there’s no hesitation on Magnum’s part because he knows Higgins has it handled. Their respect for one another is a huge component of what makes them work in a partnership. They’d hammered out a lot of the kinks in how they work together, and there’s a complete trust, now.
“Just... suddenly got a bit overwhelmed.”
Higgins has never been an overly emotional human. She tends to attack things in life with her head instead of her heart. We have seen before that it was hard for her to make friends, to make connections, to embrace her found family.
The events of the day have been overwhelming, and now everything is catching up to her. The walls that insulate her so well are feeling constricting, so she goes outside to catch a breath of air.
But Thomas is hyper aware of her right now, and he follows to ensure she’s okay.
“I’m lying. I’m not alright.”
This is always a huge admission for someone who usually brushes aside their emotions and keeps going. Even with MI-6, Higgins lied to Thomas and only told the truth when she was caught.
And she could have deflected, again, but in the emotional moment of reunion in the hospital between mother and child, and this ohana that has grown a little larger... the walls started to crumble.
Facing him, out here, alone, no interruptions, no other people, no reason to pretend... Juliet chooses to be vulnerable.
“I wanted to tell you something, but then I saw Lia there, and I just couldn’t.”
Higgy is avoiding eye contact during most of her confession. She feels uncomfortable and exposed.
It’s a terrifying thing, to open yourself up completely to another person, risking very personal injury in the process. He doesn’t know it, yet, but he is about to have the power to hurt her in a way that can never be erased. The fear of rejection is one of the most debilitating fears, I believe.
But, Higgins pushes through.
“So, uh, I came to tell you... that I have feelings for you.”
She meets his eyes long enough to try to read him, to gauge his reaction. Shock registers on his face, absolute surprise that that is what she wanted to say to him that morning. It’s not what he expected to hear.
“I tried to deny it, and I just can’t anymore.”
Thomas starts putting the pieces together in his mind, a sly smile crossing his lips. No doubt, he’s thinking about the day before when he asked her out, and how confused he was by her initial reaction, then the backpedaling to the picnic with Cole. It’s all starting to make sense.
He thought she was in deep with Cole, but now it’s apparent that was never the case. He has a shot. He freakin’ has a shot!
Higgins misreads the expression because she has no idea what’s going on inside his head. (and, heck, I don’t know, either... but it’s fun to try to figure it out, right?)
“Yeah, right. I bet this is just doing wonders for your ego.“
I love this line. It’s so Higgins that even in a vulnerable moment she’s going to call out his ego.
She evades her eyes, again, waiting for the pain to come. Waiting for the rejection. Waiting for the inevitable moment where her vulnerability doesn’t pay off, but proves a foolish venture.
But, that’s not what’s happening here.
“No, no. It’s... It’s not that.”
He’s stammering here, gathering his own thoughts before looking back up to meet her eyes. She instinctively meets his, genuinely confused... but too afraid to hope.
“When you were in the wine cellar yesterday, I wanted to spend the day with you... because I wanted to say the same thing.”
I love his read on this.
The emphasis on wanting to spend the day with her is so important, because in the previous episode he brushed it off when she asked... It was because everyone else had things to do... Right? Just two friends hanging because it was there, right?
Here he’s admitting there was intent. There was an active decision. There was a reason.
“Wait... what?”
Look at her face. She’s watching him intently, now, no longer evading his eyes. The “wait” registers confusion, but on the edge of “what” there’s pain. The pain of hope. The expectation that she’s wrong, but that tiny sliver of belief that she’s understanding him correctly... that he’s saying what she’s secretly wished he would say for months.
Higgy’s still unsure of what he’s saying. She want to think that what she thinks she is hearing is true... but maybe it’s not what he’s saying. Doubt is at play here. Higgins has had plenty of time to fill her head with it while weighing the many cons of even accepting her own feelings, let alone sharing them.
He registers her confusion, and realizes he can’t beat around the bush. He can’t talk in circles. He has to just... go for it.
“I have feelings for you.”
The emphasis on this is so fun. The emphasis is on “I”. It’s not about feelings. Feelings are already on the table. She put them on the table. The emphasis is on the “I” because this is reciprocal. This is shared. This is returned.
The empty vacuum of vulnerability fails to consume Juliet. Instead, she’s gobsmacked by the words she’s hearing.
“I think I have for a while. I just didn’t know it.”
Watch. Her. Face. Watch the words sink in. Watch her try to think of what to say besides, “Oh.” She can’t. In her wildest dreams she was terrified to think that this could happen, that he would be on the same page in the same chapter of the same story.
A moment passes, each of them regarding the other, wondering what the next move is.
Higgins is the first one to gather her thoughts, but she’s had a lot longer to consider this. Yes, she’s been fighting valiantly against her emotions, but it has given her plenty of time to process and consider. Plus, the conversations with Dr. Ogawa have no doubt illuminated all her possible fears. It’s her default position—I need to think of what could go wrong.
“I mean, of course I have my reservations.” “So do I, yeah.”
I love how she meets his eyes again, on that. It’s almost, “Okay, so you’re scared, too...” She goes through the possible things that can go wrong... all the things they’ve both expressed to others, but never each other.
“... Maybe we shouldn’t go there.” “I think you’re right.”
She nods, but she also looks away. There it is. There’s the pain and heartache she was expecting out of this conversation. It’s right there, cutting into her.
“We probably shouldn’t.” “Right. Yeah.”
The line is drawn. Higgins’ walls are going back up. Thomas watches her, completely aware that that isn’t what she wants, either. Sure, it’s easier to never go there—but is that the right call, here?
He looks to her lips, then to her eyes. His own eyes slightly narrow as the choice is made. And I LOVE her reverse shot, because I’m 90% sure it’s from a different part of the conversation (Jay Hernandez’ jaw is moving in the shot, suggesting talking), but it’s edited in beautifully.
Editors are magicians. And good editors can change the entire flow of a scene to bring it to its best point before airing. I love bringing her eyeline back to his before Thomas makes the move to close the distance between them.
He holds her gaze the whole way, waiting for her to give him a sign she doesn’t want this. But, she can’t. She’s wanted this for so long.
Lips meet, but this isn’t some thin-lined kiss. His lips part automatically, and hers part to meet him in response as they feel their way through their first kiss. It’s the magic of a first kiss that has a bit of awkwardness to it because, in real life you don’t know how another person kisses until you’re actually doing it.
Think about it... the WhiteBell kiss at the beginning of the season feels perfectly choreographed, complete with bare-chested manliness, his utter control of the situation by moving her head where he wanted it, and every tongue in place.
This isn’t that. This is the real Juliet and Thomas meeting mouths for the first time. This is learning how another person kisses, and feeling your way through. By the second kiss, they’re finding a rhythm, and her hands move, first to his jaw, then to his neck.
She’s not holding on, yet. She’s not committing, yet. She’s cautious... but she can’t keep her hands off of him.
He deepens the kiss, and she responds, matching him move for move.
We know from Higgins’ relationship with Ethan that she can take control when she wants to. But, right now, she doesn’t want to be in control. To be completely vulnerable means the release of control, to an extent.
Right now she’s letting him take the lead because she’s the one whose scared and he’s the one who dared.
They pull apart, and he’s quick to check her... to look for her reaction. To see her response. She looks to him, nerves on high alert. Was this a kiss to what might have been? Or is this the beginning? She has no idea.
Her fingers drop off his jawbone, her hand falling away from his neck. He pulls away from her, but as he does there’s a smile on his face—a satisfied, excited, celebratory smile.
Juliet glimpses his face and cannot help but smile herself. The light falls upon her, and I swear she glows in that moment, basking in it. All the dread and worry of their conversation is replaced with a cautious hope.
As his footing settles, he’s clearly given her space... but they are closer than they were through the duration of the scene. There’s no going back.
We end the season on Thomas, pressing his lips together as he looks at her anew—as though seeing her for the first time.
What’s next? Heck if I know! I don’t even know if we get another season, at this point. I do hope we do. This was one of my favorite episodes of the season all the way around. The teaser was sensational and getting to see Gordon unravel was played elegantly by Tim Kang.
I do believe these two can sustain a relationship and keep the show going. Like Brooklyn 99, the show is not about this ship. It’s about the ohana and the cases and how they navigate life as this found family.
So long as that’s kept in view, I think that Thomas and Juliet can exist in a romantic relationship while remembering that they are each capable, intelligent, bad*ss people.
I mean, they proved with that final scene that these characters can still be true to themselves and share a romantic moment. Higgy commenting on his ego was perfectly in-character. Magnum drawing a line in the sand only to immediately, trample it is so him! It’s possible to do this right, I believe.
But, again, this is all just my opinion. I’m one fan in this sea! But, I’ve loved being on this journey with each of you. Thanks for reading.

Am I the only one who got a little mad at Higgins for her saying that if they were partners, Magnum could only take paying clients?
That was just wrong of her, imo. Magnum accepts barters from clients who can't afford to pay him money. And for some reason he just agreed and accepted it as if she had a point. As if having a heart and caring about people enough to work with them on payment was somehow a bad thing. It would have been fine if she'd have said "you need to have more actual paying customers to balance out the non-paying ones," I could have gotten that. He still has bills to pay and expenses to cover, but she basically told him he could only help people with money.

Magnum P.I. 2x06 - Lie, Cheat, Steal, Kill thoughts
Spoilers ahead.Obviously.
Overall I liked this episode better than the Halloween one by leaps and bounds, we got one case no one cares about and some weird none-triangle-triangle-drama and Higgins calling TC for a favor instead of Magnum and Kumu being kidnapped!
Let’s start from the beginning...
So I loved that in the first scene Abby feeds the dogs to distract them because they’re growling. It’s like she’s totally used to the dogs stalking her/them/Magnum. And Magnum is stealing wine. And the fact that he picked the wine cellar for a date spot. In fact, I just loved that whole first scene. The whole setting got nothing to do with Abby/Magnum and everything to do with Juliet. From the place, to the wine, the dogs, the undertone of doom of Abby and Magum being happy. Even without shippy glasses on, you gotta admit, the wine cellar and dog are all just 100% associated with Magnum and Juliet’s relationship. Not Abby and Magnums.
Because of this, this scene made me so sure that Abby was going to get sent packing somehow, if not by the end of this episode then at least within a few episodes(turns out it was this ep.) As a Miggy fan (I do believe we are calling Magnum x Higgins Miggy right?) this should have made me happy and while it kind of did, I also have some other thoughts which we will get to later.
TC making a deal - that’s going to come back - which will be interesting. Possibly crossover?
The case is well... it’s weird and doesn't make total sense, I mean it does but not really.
Abby hires another PI to prove bad guy she helped get off a murder charge is guilty but it somehow ends up in Magnum’s hands. Why couldn’t she just have asked him directly and that would have made her hanging around helping Magnum + Higgens solve it make a little more sense? This would have let her see them working together and being awesome (which kind of was the point of this episode) just as easily. I did really enjoy the other PI being all “going to get a catheter up my ding-dong so would you help me out” scene though!
Basically, though this episode was all about Abby/Magnum/Higgins and their different way of interacting (+ to get Abby out of the show somehow). The case itself isn’t actually tricky. The bad guy does exactly what they “want” every time, pretty much so it’s all very ‘meweh’. I’d have love a moment like this

or a mom and dad reference from Rick/TC in the middle just for fun.

But it’s fine because we don’t really care the bad guy evil or about the poor dead writer girls because there is no real framing for us to feel disturbed or sad about that in this ep. At least that’s my take. Did someone else feel compelled by the story? This episode was all main characters' stuff to me.
Even when we get to meet one of the victim's mothers it’s only to motivate Kumu to get involved which in turn leads to the kidnapping which leads to “Juliet knows him best, do what she says” line from Abby.
This is where my annoyance with the Abby / Magnum breaking up (because of Juliet) comes in. Because while it’s cute that Abby says...well let’s run through the scene...
Abby: *spends two hours with Magnum and Higgins* I’m not the girl for you, but if you pay a little attention you’ll see that there is someone right under your nose that is perfect for you. Just OPEN your eyes man!
Magnum: *confused* Huh? What? I can’t think of anyone. Higgy, can you think of anyone perfect for me?
Higgins: No? Why? Aren’t you and Abby still making love-dove eyes at each other?
Writers: No, we decided to jinx that majorly by having Magnum toast to their happiness at the start of the episode.
Magnum & Higgins: Right. Sorry, Thomas. Well, let’s go have some beers and laughs and then for the rest of the week we’ll spend all our time together solves cases ignoring the fact that we banter because we can’t admit how we really feel.
Writers: Sounds good. Oh and in next week ep, Higgins will randomly show up where Magnum is working...in a bikini. Because.
Magnum & Higgins: Makes perfect sense.
Also this while “falling in love” song plays. Guys! Try to be a little subtle.

LOL
Well, maybe that’s not a *totally* accurate write up of the conversation. But basically, Abby is us (the viewers) instead of Abby in this episode. We know Juliet and Magnum have a kind of special relationship. They kick ass together and understand each other. But it’s so much more of course. She’s lost a lot, he helped her with that, he’s lost a lot and she’s helped with that. She’s the one who always there when he needs her for a case and genuinely enjoys it.
Tumblr media
His bonds with Rick and TC are strong because they were in the army and the POW camp together, but living, bantering and saving each other lives over the past year and a half has made the one he has with Juliet just as strong. He loves her. He’ll die and kill for her. Probably he would fight and die for Abby to, but due to the nature of their relationship (they don’t go running into hails of bullets for fun) there hasn’t been a chance to show that.
Juliet is the person he works with, talk to most and risks his life with/ for. They are so similar yet so different. But they are still, at this point, just business partners and friends. Trusted friends. I mean yeah, sure, we (the viewers) have seen the puppy dog eyes and smiles.

(gifs are not mine but borrowed from people more talented than me)
But what Abby saw in today's episode was mostly that Magnum and Juliet trust and know each other.
That should not have made her break up with him!
I’ll say it again.
Nothing Magnum/ Juliet did today was grounds for Abby saying “oh we shouldn’t be together because your soulmate is sitting over there”.
So yeah, now I’m going to rant a little (bit more?).
I mean maybe I’ll see something on a re-watch but is standing next to one another and making plans (work-related) together cause for concern? I would hope not. Even in previous episodes where Juliet has been like “he’s a good man” to Abby, it shouldn’t be a huge deal.  Magnum is a good man. Higgins and Magnum should be able to be friends without it being an issue for Abby.
Because Magnum was with Abby. He wasn’t dating Higgins. He’d picked Abby, (at least for the time) and not Higgins. And while it’s fine for her to feel like maybe he’s into Higgins, it’s weird to be so obvious about it right after ending things. IDK, maybe that’s just me.
Still I don’t like Miggy friendship being a factor in A/M’s breakup. It plays too much into the stereotype of men and women can’t be friends, which is what Higgy and Magnum are at this point. And I don’t like that. As much as I want Miggy, I love where they are now, as friends, too.
So yeah. Abby breaking up with Magnum today because she didn’t want to do the long-distance relationship - and that’s it - would have been great. Maybe one sentence of ‘maybe I’m just not the girl for you’ would have been ok. But the whole, her pointing him towards Higgins (without saying her name obviously) is not cool. I don’t like it and I wish Abby would have stuck around for an episode more (or two) before making her exit.
Maybe actually having her talk to Juliet about her and Magnum’s relationship and even making Juliet realize that there is something there. Or not. Maybe just have her be unsure about moving to the mainland. Show that she actually was into Thomas and that it’s a hard choice for her. Or make her mom (on the mainland) sick or some other additional factor to make her seem less like she’s just ditching Magnum. We already had Hannah and that Cat-mom-lady, being all “nope I’m just going to dump Jay Hernandez and his fine behind because I can” and now did Abby did as well. With Rick’s failed relationship I’m beginning to worry the showrunners have something against brunettes!
Anyways, that was my biggest pet peeve with this episode, the breakup reason. Best bit for me was the one with catheter guy at the start, Magnum in his bathrobe and all the snark and banter they managed to cram in there!

Note
☕️ thomas and juliet hehe
hoowee ok zaci haha
i actually very much like the two of them as platonic partners. i think magnum has a tendency to over-romanticize (which is why he jumped so quickly to propose to juliet early on her for visa), but i also think he's gotten more self-aware about that. there's no denying, in my eyes, that these two share a wavelength/frequency/whatever channel and i love that for them. i 100% love seeing people find someone that they 100% just click with (ride or die, platonic soulmate, whatever)
that isn't to say i'm super against them developing romantically but, from the beginning, that route always felt too predictable/forced to me? plus i really like ethan. but if eventually the story leads to them being romantic partners (on top of the foundation of already being great partners), then i'd be all for it if it's well-written and developed.
anyways, that's a long-winded way of saying thomas and juliet, i love how compatible they are and how well they just get each other
also juliet is so powerful i am in awe of her. magnum is a big ol' teddy bear who's too good for this world sometimes.
send me ☕️ + [topic] and i’ll tell you my opinion on it!
