Julia Louis-Dreyfus, 62, delves into the 'mourning period' after the end of 'Seinfeld' while appearing on the People cover
Julia Louis-Dreyfus reveals how she coped with the 'mourning period' she and her co-stars felt after their iconic sitcom, Seinfeld, ended. The 62-year-old film and TV star - who stars in new comedy You Hurt My Feelings - also opened up about how she's battling feelings of "invisibility" as she ages while looking her most glamorous on the latest cover of People Magazine.During a video interview with the publication, she opened up about the difficulties of saying goodbye to Seinfeld after the controversial series finale.“The end of that show was like that sad"Because we all loved each other so much," she admitted. "There was definitely a period of grief at the end of the show that was both real and palpable."However, the show's success and the strides she was making as an actress inspired her to continue, which led to other acclaimed projects including The New Adventures Of Old Christine and Veep.
Moving on: Julia Louis-Dreyfus, 62, spoke about the sadness she felt after saying goodbye to Seinfeld and how age has led her to want to give older women a stronger voice in culture after gracing the cover of People Magazine; seen March 12 in Hollywood
Saying goodbye, "The end of this show was so sad because we all loved each other so much," she said of Seinfeld. "There was definitely a period of grief when the show ended that was both real and felt.""I remember well that I had a desire and a feeling that I needed to keep working — I wanted to keep working." I wanted to keep doing this thing called acting. "I succeeded, which is great," she said.Elsewhere, Louis-Dreyfus revealed that Jane Fonda, 85, inspired her to start her podcast Wiser Than Me after she was "completely blown away" by a documentary about the legendary star."I saw this documentary on HBO called Jane Fonda in Five Acts," she recalls. ' When I saw it I thought, 'You know, we just don't hear about older women. We don't often delve deeply into the lives of older women. They lived, they all have.” They are past that experience, and why aren't we hearing from them?So she decided to give these aging stars and executives a chance to shine in conversation again on her podcast."I thought it would be exciting to compile a list of women and see if anyone would want to sit down and have a pretty open, honest conversation about life." ... It was really exciting," she gushed. Louis-Dreyfus said she believes that while older women are "made invisible" in "Western culture," their "wisdom" is an "untapped natural resource" that everyone can benefit from. Of course, Fonda was one of the comic star's first guests. The 'Veep' star joked that she had to deal with fewer 'cops' from her guests as they were becoming more 'honesty' at her age. #JuliaLouis-Dreyfus
Moving on: But she didn't let the end of the show stop her. "I remember well that I had a desire and a feeling that I needed to keep working — I wanted to keep working." I wanted to keep doing this thing called acting. seen with Jerry Seinfeld, Jason Alexander and Michael Richards
Sharing her wisdom: After watching a documentary about Jane Fonda, 85, she was inspired to start her podcast Wiser Than Me, in which she interviews older women; Seen Monday in NYCShe also said aging has had a positive impact on her, as she's less obsessed with "beauty" and looks than she was when she was a rising star, although she joked that she "does it with a full head of hair and makeup." up” said.Louis-Dreyfus also opened up about starring and producing her upcoming movie You Hurt My Feelings, with Nicole Holofcener writing and directing. In the dramedy, she stars as a writer whose confidence takes a devastating blow when her therapist husband (played by Tobias Menzies) reveals that all his past praise for the novel she is writing was false and that he doesn't care is for work.Michaela Watkins plays her supportive sister, while Succession actor Arian Moayed plays Watkins' husband, who is struggling as an actor. "I'm interested in stories that aren't derivative, that feel fresh, that might serve as conversation starters," Louis-Dreyfus said of the film."This film is so much about human relationships and the details of human relationships and human behavior," she continued. "It's really about the connections between people, and that's where I live." I love exploring that as an actor, both comedic and dramatic, so it's kind of my happy place."Holofcener has written and directed several acclaimed comedies, including Friends With Money (2006) and Please Give (2010).Louis-Dreyfus previously worked with her on the acclaimed 2013 romantic comedy Enough Said, in which she worked with the late Sopranos star James Gandolfini.

Onward (2020)
Pixar is known for its rich characters, gorgeous visuals, and imaginative stories that feature emotional depths not reached by most animated films. When compared to the likes of Up, Toy Story, Wall-E and Inside Out, Onward falls short. It’s funny and has the emotional complexity we expect - towards the end - but overall isn’t as carefully thought-out as it should be.
In a world inhabited by centaurs, elves, pixies, satyrs and other mythical creatures, magic used to be commonplace but ha been replaced by modern-day appliances and technology. Timid Iandore “Ian” Lightfoot (voiced by Tom Holland) and his role-playing, magic/fantasy fanatic brother Barley (voiced by Chris Pratt) receive a spell from their late father that will allow him to return for 24 hours. Unfortunately, their attempt at the spell goes awry. Now, they have to find a magic gem to complete the enchantment before it’s too late.
As in all of Pixar’s films, you can see the money at work. The visuals are terrific. In the backgrounds, you’ll see funny fantasy versions of famous brand names or gags that clearly show the animators and set designers were passionate about this project. You’ll find laughs aplenty as the two brothers go on a modern-day version of a Dungeons and Dragons quest, complete with deadly traps, puzzles to be solved and strange monsters each given their own twist.
There’s a lot to like, particularly the ending, which is smart and mature. Despite this, the overall quest feels askew. The fairytale setting is more like a gimmick than a necessity. Seeing centaurs driving cars and elves doing aerobics is a nice gag but it's not enough for a whole movie. Compare it to Disney's Zootopia, whose animal cast were symbols for gender and race but also worked as anthropomorphic creatures with unique traits. There are missed opportunities in the premise, and in the side story with the teen's mom (voiced by Julia Louis-Dreyfus) searching for her sons with the help of Corey (Octavia Spencer) the manticore. Details about the adventure are sloppy. We learn the gem the boys need is protected by a curse but when we see it unfold, it isn’t really a curse; more of an additional defense against thieves. Structurally, Ian and Barley’s father is another missed opportunity. Their first attempt at bringing him back yields unexpected and amusing results for the audience but it means the film has to drag a non-character along with them. Barring the scenes where good use is made of the “half-a-person” visual, he doesn't serve much purpose.
Onward is preceded by a short animated film starring Maggie Simpson of The Simpsons. Like the main feature it accompanies, it’s ok but I don’t think it’s anything you’ll be coming back to frequently. While it may be a disappointment compared to what we expect from Pixar, if you go in with lowered expectations, you'll have a great time. (Theatrical version on the big screen, March 6, 2020)

In Jerry Stiller, the Rage of Jewish Fathers Found a Hilarious Outlet
It made me laugh every time Jerry Stiller opened his mouth on "Seinfeld." It was, in part, the shock of what happened. Stiller, who died at the age of 92 on Monday, was not thinking so much as erupting. Instantly his bristling bass changed the energy in the scene, adding ludicrous tension and anger that came off like deliriously stupid. Then there was his masterly comic pace, a rat-a-tat of old school that got straight to the point. What really resonated, however, was more intimate. I did not know any New York stand-ups like Jerry Seinfeld as a kid watching this classic sitcom, crazy copy editors like Elaine Benes or whoever the hell Cosmo Kramer was. But Frank Costanza, of Stiller, was incredibly familiar, with an immediately identifiable strength and fashion sense from my family's Florida contingent. They did not remind me of a single parent so much as they all screamed at one another at the same time, over chopped liver. Stiller had, it has to be said, an enormous career which included helping to invent improve comedy with the Compass Players in Chicago; a hit double act with his wife, Anne Meara; and memorable parental roles in everything from the movie "Hairspray" to the sitcom "The King of Queens." Yet, as often happens in memories like this, journalists prefer to concentrate on his most famous role. Just as it annoyed me that the headlines about Brian Dennehy's death focused on "Tommy Boy" and "First Blood," as opposed to his landmark leading performances in Arthur Miller's and Eugene O'Neill's plays, you might be irritated that this essay celebrates one supporting role towards the end of his career. Bellowing "Serenity now! "There is no tablespoon of Zen in it as a device for calming on his doctor's orders. Stiller was not a renter of one-trick, either. He could also find laughs in a soft tone, even taking advantage of juxtapositions. Hear him repeat: "You want a piece of me? "To Julia Louis-Dreyfus in one of the great outtakes in comedy history, making her break character. It is his quiet volume that startles, setting the roar up at first. Frank Costanza was written, more or less by mistake, as an Italian, not a Jewish. Still we Jewish people knew better. Or Jerry Stiller, at least, made sure that we did. He had been the show is Jewish head. "Seinfeld" was not an overt reference to his Jewishness but offered ample clues. Perhaps the greatest episode of Stiller is the one we hear from his mortified friend, George, played by Jason Alexander, that he created a holiday as an alternative to Christmas called Festivus. If Jewish children have a growing outsider experience, it is the peculiar isolation felt during the holidays in December when they are trapped without Christmas trees and stockings. And while Festivus has entered the popular lexicon, the episode that sounded like so many Passover Seders features a peculiar tone set by Stiller. "The Festivus tradition," he declared, "begins with the outpouring of complaints." Stiller is a master at complaint, much like so many great Jewish comics. Jeff Ross turned to him at the roast of Stiller's New York Friars Club, and said, "His Hebrew name is Yech!” There is a glorious ritual of making fun of their parents and grandparents by Jewish comics, especially the generation that immigrated to the United States. Woody Allen, Elaine May and Larry David have done it all, turning these people into caricatures shouting, neurosis givers of guilt and nabobs. From the viewpoint of young people like me, who saw something strange about these beloved family members, these jokes emerged. They had heavy accents, visions of the old world and funny sounding work. I had a grandfather selling eggs (he looked more like Seinfeld’s father than as Frank Costanza). And yet we always knew it was harder for those elders than we did. All these elements had been in the portrait of Jerry Stiller. He was silly but also proud, nervous about the dumb stuff and excited about them. His sparring with his wife, performed beautifully by Estelle Harris, with equal intensity and a far higher voice, were aggressive yet friendly battles. Father's rage can be horrific. And sitcoms have a cheap way of sanding off the surfaces. But Stiller has a consistently endearing comic rage: plucky, ineffective with hint of fire. That was absolutely critical. The younger people on the show did not cower at his temper as much as they roll their eyes. North (1994)
In today's review, I put up with family, then another and so on. As I attempt a #positive review of the 1994 world-spanning adventure known as North #ElijahWood #BruceWillis #JonLovitz #JasonAlexander #JuliaLouis-Dreyfus #AlanArkin
Warts and all, family is eternal. Sometimes circumstances change, and members enter and leave but the genetics, and in some cases love, remains. Still, sometimes you are left wondering about their faults and what life would be like with a different set of parents, especially if you feel your blood kin aren’t appreciative of you. In 1994, a young child got to see what life is like in a wide range…

Julia Louis-Dreyfus' son shows basketball comedy chops after first career reduction
You may have seen Seinfeld and Veep star Julia Louis-Dreyfus in the crowd for Northwesterns historic NCAA Tournament vibes earlier this year. This was not some lasting fandom from her own days as a Wildcat or a Second City cast fan, but a stomach-argument seat for her son, Charlie Hall. Of course, most of the period, she isnt actually watching her son play-warfare basketball. The junior accept unsuccessful to score a single career narrowing in 28 minutes on top of 18 games in three seasons at Northwestern. That all distorted in the unmovable minutes of an 85-48 victory adjoining the private conservatory basketball juggernaut that is Lewis University. Hall got fouled upon a 3-narrowing attempt subsequent to 1:10 long-lasting, made unaccompanied the center forgive throw (to his teammates colossal delight), and subsequently missed substitute 3 to finish taking into account the one reduction: https://youtu.be/9l2KTyOBg9g Read the full article

Downhill (2020)
Either Downhill is a comedy that doesn't make you laugh out loud because your second-hand embarrassment prevents you from unclenching your jaw and is done so masterfully the cringe factor transcends the humorous plane or it simply isn’t funny. I'm leaning towards the later.
While vacationing in the Alps with their two sons, Billie (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) and Pete (Will Ferrell) are sitting down comfortably when a sudden wave of snow comes their way. Pete grabs his phone and runs while the others are petrified by fear. Once they realize the avalanche was pre-planned by the resort and that they were never in any danger, they begin reevaluating how they feel about their lives and each other.
It’s easy to see what the film wants to do it’s just that it hits its target at the wrong angle and instead of cleverly ricochet-ing in a direction you didn’t see coming, it splats and then slowly slides down to the floor, squeaky awkwardly all the way. The scenario Pete and Billie find themselves in is funny. In theory, it’s funny. Think about how awkward it would be to have to confront the person you promised you’d never abandon after doing exactly that. What would you have to do to win your family back? What would you put up with and how far would you have to go? Unfortunately for us, Pete’s kids are so annoying you kind of think he might be better off without them. Once again, I’m not sure if I can criticize the film for making them insufferable. Clearly, they’re deliberately supposed to be sticks in the mud that wind up deflating every effort Pete makes. That doesn’t mean they’re funny.
While you sit there, attempting in vain to wrap your brain around the inclusion of a randy German hotel clerk (Miranda Otto), you wonder what went wrong. Maybe this kind of humor just works better with European actors. The film Downhill is based upon, Force Majeure, received wonderful reviews and in theory, you can see how this would work. You should be on the very outskirts of the story; just far enough to be affected by the embarrassment and awkwardness the characters feel but with the back of your heels outside of the zone. Instead of a delicate balance, it's like being in the movie theater sitting between a couple who argue for a little less than an hour and a half while you're unable to get up out of your seat. Yikes.
Downhill is a miscalculated effort. It’s not quite as uncomfortable as it should be, which makes it much less funny than it wants to. You'll be more entertained thinking about how this could've worked with just a couple of knobs tweaked and by the new 20th Century Studios title card replacing the former 20th Century Fox title card before the picture actually begins going downhill. (Theatrical version on the big screen, February 27, 2020)
