Batman/Dredd: Judgement on Gotham/Vendetta in Gotham — John Wagner, Alan Grant, Simon Bisley, and Cam Kennedy The unstoppable force meets the immovable object. Batman and Dredd are a better crossover pairing than most. Unflappably serious forces of violent order who fail to see their own ridiculous and excess in comparison to the insane worlds in which they operate. This book contains two pretty short stories, following the expected Marvel style *hero meets hero, fights, then teams up* approach, before taking a tour spin Gotham and Mega-City One. I wouldn’t have it any other way, and it’s done with style and wit. Each story has very different art. Simon Bisley gives us maybe the most unhinged depiction of Batman and his rogues gallery outside Dave McKean’s in Arkham Asylum, with 90% less psychodrama and 10x more punching. Can Kennedy’s is more conventional but still rock solid, and I think the variation works as what the team up would look like through a 2000AD lens, vs DC comics. In case it isn’t obvious, I thoroughly enjoyed this. The digest format doesn’t allow the eyeball-melting art to shine quite as much as it might, but what it does mean that it is too cheap to not treat yourself and pick up.
