Johnlix - ROMCOM TROPE AU
JOHN is a successful and upcoming businesssman. He’s been featured in magazines, his company is growing rapidly, and everything seems to be going according to his carefully laid out plan.
That is, until, he hires a scruffy new intern named Felix who’s straightforward way of talking and rough charm throw off John’s schedule.
The only problem is, there’s no way they can makes this work! John’s family doesn’t approve, Felix is struggling with his dark past, and John just spilled coffee all over his tie!
Can this unlikely couple make love work?

Johnlix. Country Club AU.
“We’ll be missed, Felix, we-” John looked anxiously at the doorknob on the inside of the janitor’s closest as he tripped over a mop.“Those assholes can go another fifteen minutes before they notice the absence of delicately served shrimp,” Felix rolled his eyes and focused on undoing the knot in John’s tie and bruising his lips. “Besides,” Felix whispered as his hand slid under, “It’s my dinner break anyways.”

PS for the ship thing - Johnlix
Yay! I’m ridiculously excited to get another tugboat for this meme!
Who worries about how they will look when they’re older
John. “No, Felix, don’t you see - male pattern baldness and potbellies run in my family! Can you imagine what my eyeglass prescription will be when I’m older?”
Who makes the mix tapes/cd’s
John. And you think it’s all sappy and romantic but it’s about 90% ACDC.
Clings to the other during scary movies
Felix did that “yawn-wrap-your-arm-around-your-date” thing once, does that count?
They both really love slasher movies and laughing at the horrible effects.
Gets into the shower with the other randomly
Neither. They do shower together sometimes, but it’s almost always pre-negotiated.
Flashes the other when they walk by after taking a shower alone
Neither.
Initiates hand holding while the other is driving
John. And the first time he did Felix almost swerved off the road he was so surprised. But he ended up liking it. A lot.
Secretly tries to touch the other in naughty places during public/family events
Neither. But they’ll sometimes be suggestive at work and build the tension to the point it almost explodes. But physical touching? Not till they’re alone.
Asks weird questions in the middle of the night
John will fill  the silence with chatter, but not necessarily questions.
Asks “what are you thinking about?”
John. Sometimes Felix gets that far off look in his eye and he knows...asks to try and fool himself.
Always has to be touching the other, (if either of them do)
Neither. They do touch, pretty affectionately, but it’s not a constant, overwhelming thing.

“28 years, Felix!”
John’s voice stopped him in his tracks. Felix tensed his shoulder and turned back around, glaring down John. “What’s your point?”
John pulled at his hair, his teeth grinding in frustration. Why did Felix have to be so stubborn, so willfully ignorant, so happily blind? But he wasn’t happy, not anymore, that was the problem. John returned his heated gaze, unflinchingly. “It’s been 28 years. Twenty eight, Felix! And we’ve been here, you and me, the whole time! Uninterrupted in the curse! Why hasn’t he come? Hmm? Where is Peter Pan to take you back to Neverland?”
His words hit Felix like a brick of ice, sending chills down his spine in a cold, sudden, realization. John was...right. Why hadn’t Peter come? Why had he left Felix here, cursed, helpless, for all this time... “He...Peter will...”
“He won’t, Felix, don’t you see? He hasn’t. He won’t. He left you, Felix, please, see reason-”
“The-the curse!” Felix instinctively took a step away from John, away from the words that were making his heart shake in doubt, “Maybe he couldn’t get through-” But that wasn’t it right, of course Peter’s magic was stronger than the curse; Peter Pan never failed. Those words were burned into Felix’s heart, to doubt Peter was...blasphemy. Traitorous. He couldn’t doubt Peter, he wouldn’t.
But that left John’s words hanging in the air like an ominous fog. Why hadn’t Peter come? Surely he’d noticed that Felix never returned, Peter knew he was missing. Then why...
“Felix-” John’s voice cut through Felix’s thoughts, his voice turning into something desperate and pleading, “Please, I don’t mean to hurt you, you know I’d never try to hurt you, but...but please just talk to me.”
Felix’s head snapped up, eyes widening as the epiphany came to him, “It’s because I failed. John, what...what were we doing? In the Enchanted Forest when- when the curse-”
“What are you talking about?” John shook his head, confused.
“The mission! Pan sent us, sent me, to go to get...get something. What was it? What did he need-”
“Felix, you’re not making sense-”
Felix growled with frustration, why wasn’t John helping him? It was so obvious! Why Peter hadn’t come, why he’d let Felix rot in Storybrooke, “We-I- failed. He thinks I failed! What did we need to get? I can’t,” he rubbed at his temple in frustration, “Dammit, I can’t remember!”
“Why in the hell does it matter? What are you-”
“Because I failed. I didn’t do what I was supposed to and this,” He gestured, a bit wildly, to the space around him, “he left me here as punishment! But if...if I can finish the mission, if I can...I can prove my worth again then-”
John slapped him. Felix hadn’t even noticed John crossing the room until his hand scratched across his cheek, his breathing harsh and his eyes reflecting some strange mixture of anger, hurt, and pity. “Shut UP! Shut up, what are you talking about ‘punishment’ and ‘worth’ and nonsense? Felix you have to STOP. Why are you still so enraptured with him? He left you. You have a chance to be happy, and you’re still so-so-so,” John tugged at his hair again, “So bloody obsessed. That’s what I’ve been trying to tell you. You have friends here, love here, you can be happy-”
“No, I can’t.” Felix sneered, “You’re right, Peter did leave me, because I failed him. Here, I’m useless. But I can gain it back, Peter will let me prove myself. But here? Storybrooke?” His lip curled with disgust, “I’m worthless, and I always will be. The curse was designed to DESTROY happiness, John.”

The city lights swirled and blinked like fairies, flittering above the heads of those on the grounds and mistaking themselves for stars. Had to be, because you couldn’t see the stars, couldn’t ever see the sky properly here .The roar of the city was a constant, thrumming beat that never stopped - a cacophony of car engines, loud music, and yelling voices.
Flashing lights and screaming noises. Oh, and the smell. Some sort of rancid, putrid, and worryingly persistent reek that hung over the city in a smog.
Apparently some people found this beautiful and romantic.
Felix was most definitely not part of that group. He loathed the city, whichever one this was, they all blended together for him, his visits so infrequent and fleeting that he never bothered learning the differences between places in the land without magic. He recalled the names that some of the lost boys would tell tales of, former homes with strange, far off sounding names like Michigan, Manila, Mumbai, or Manchester. Sometimes they’d argue about which was best or better than the others, old patriotism somehow so deeply ingrained that the boys would temporarily forget that they all had abandoned their homes for Neverland anyway and fight about a land that was lost to them.
He didn’t get it, how anyone could love this place. No wonder they had chosen Neverland, he thought, compared to this loud and dirty realm. Neverland was paradise. Neverland was home. And he really wanted to get back.
Felix itched at the scratchy fabric at his collar as he waited for his partner for this stupid mission to get done doing whatever sort of strange negotiation he was doing inside the building with the humming electronic machines. Those machines made Felix uncomfortable too. Peter called them useful, but Felix never saw how, though it wasn’t his place to question Pan’s call. So Felix had made his partner deal with them as he waited outside in the (not at all actually) fresh air and sulked to himself.
Peter would sometimes send him on these missions, the “home office” he called it, to negotiate with grown ups who didn’t know anything about magic or shadows or hourglasses but who looked at Felix with either contempt or pity or both as he pretended his “boss” wasn’t a magical teenage boy and tried to concentrate on understanding the strange Earth accents which changed every time Felix heard them (an unfortunate consequence to showing up once every several decades) and not gagging at the bitter taste the polluted air left on his tongue. He really wasn’t very good at navigating these missions.
Which is why he had a partner who was, who knew the land without magic and was comfortable with the strange humming machines and loud music and plastic money and fast automobiles.
Felix sighed in relief as the familiar face of John Darling, only partially obscured by a scarf that matched Felix’s own, appeared beside him. “That’s done.”
“And?”
“And it’s done!” John offered Felix a lopsided grin, “Good and finished, signed and sealed.” He waved an envelope to emphasize his point, “So we can leave now.”
“Good.” Felix’s shoulders slumped, “I hate this place.”
“Why’re you always so sour? It’s not that bad.” The two boys fell into step beside each other, John an imperceptible amount ahead and leading the way back to their lodgings while they were on Pan’s mission together.
“It’s awful.” Felix shrugged, “I don’t understand how you can like it here.”
John shrugged, “It’s different, changed, but I mean...it’s still home. Sort of.”
Felix muttered something under his breath that sounded suspiciously like “no sort of home” before sighing again and bumping John’s shoulder, “Whatever. So long as you’re the one who’s messing around with all of it.”
John nudged back, and was relieved to see the slight curl of Felix’s lip that indicated the lost boy wasn’t in as much of a dour mood as he wanted everyone to believe. Felix was strange like that, always cagey and quiet if he thought people were watching. But John knew that, given the right environment, Felix was just like any other teenage boy who liked to play and have fun.  “I don’t mind messing around with you.”
Felix quirked an eyebrow and John flushed, “No, I mean, it’s just-”
“You like messing around with me?” Felix grinned, pressing into John’s side, “Really?”
“Felix, I meant-”
He could feel Felix’s laugh on his neck before he pulled away, which just made John blush more, even though now he was grinning bashfully. “I know what you meant.” Felix punched his shoulder, “You’re the only thing that makes this realm tolerable. Thank god for good company. If Peter made me come alone I don’t know what I’d do. “
“I’m the only thing?”
Felix pursed his lips, “Don’t get a big head, Darling.”
“I’m not!” John waved his hand and coughed, “I just meant, I mean, there are other things you like about this world, right?”
“Not at all.”
John reached into his bag, “I beg to differ, Felix.”
“Hmm?”
He pulled out a paper covered bottle, “Flavor infused vodka. A speciality of the 20th century.”
Felix grinned again, for real this time, stretching across his face and sparking in his eyes, “Touche. You got that for me?”
“For us,” John shrugged, “I know how much you hate rum. I got you a pack of cigarettes too.”
Felix whistled appreciatively. He may hate the land without magic but he did have to admit, the modern sins and indulgences it provided were a welcome relief from the harsh pirated liquor and stale tobacco pipes of home. Felix would ration a pack of menthols for a year on Neverland if one of the other boys didn’t beg them out of him.
“If I didn’t know better I’d think you were trying to woo me,” Felix joked as he took the bottle, twisting the cap off and taking an appreciative gulp. The alcohol burned his throat in a welcome way against the cold air.
“Is it working?”
“Huh?”
“Wooing you,” John took the bottle from Felix’s hand and took a generous drink, holding Felix’s gaze, “Have I gotten your attention yet?”
“With booze and cigarettes?”
“And my charming good looks,” John joked, but there was something off against his voice, “And you know, my lame attempts at flirting.”
Which...Felix hadn’t missed, it was true. He knew that John held...something for him, and had for a while. Felix dismissed it as attraction of proximity. John wasn’t fully aware what he was complicit in or the extent to which Pan used him and his brother. He didn’t understand why Felix was the only lost boy Peter allowed him to see and socialize with, preferring to keep the Darling brothers isolated from the other boys to prevent interference with a much larger plot. So it made sense that John’s friendship with Felix had grown into something...more than the need for a friendly face on a lonely island, but Felix had ignored it with as much tact as possible. Perhaps he shouldn’t have teased back, or flirted, or entertained the idea of John Darling as anything more than Peter’s pawn in a long game that not even Felix knew all the details of. But it was Peter who had pushed them together, and part of Felix (a very small, quiet, and often ignored part) resented not being told what he was doing. Wanted to see if he could push Peter like Peter tried to push him, as part of his game, to see if maybe...
“Felix.”
Felix blinked, and noticed that he had been pushing closer to John while he thought of Peter, and that John’s face with flushed again and he had a very intense look on his face. “Sorry.” Felix muttered, but he didn’t move away, instead closing his hand over John’s where it rested on the bottle.
“Felix,” John repeated, “I’m being serious.”
“I know.” Felix looked away and pulled at the bottle, distracting himself with another drink and trying to decide what exactly he was thinking right now. He was angry from being in the city, the spinning lights and screaming noise grating on his nerves and eating away at his usual stoic calm. He had been here for too long, with John, teasing and flirting and entertaining the briefest of bitter (bitter and terrifying, honestly truly terrifying and horrible and worrying) thoughts of being left in this world, abandoned by Peter, another forgotten boy. (But Peter wouldn’t do that. He had his reasons for throwing Felix with John Darling and not giving Felix more than a word about it for weeks. It was part of something bigger. Felix didn’t ever question Peter Pan. He didn’t need his loyalty tested.)
He heard John inhale and flicked his eyes over, seeing the Darling boy staring intently at Felix. “I mean, if you know...that I mean it, that I feel...I mean...Felix...”
Felix turned fully, body coming with him as he truly met John, their bodies closing the space between them. He could read the nervousness in John’s posture, but could see the determination there too. John had been planning this, or something like this, some sort of confession. It wasn’t an accident that he was here, now, in John’s former home, alone and lost again. Felix could feel the alcohol beginning to blur his thoughts, getting lost in the frazzled and fractured lights and sound that had been throwing him since he got here. He knew, somewhere, that this had to be another game.
But somewhere else, he knew that he didn’t really feel up to it right now, and his mind was hazy with half constructed and barely entertained daydreams that had been constantly ignored because he knew he shouldn’t make anything more than a business relationship with John Darling. He knew that, didn’t care, not with John radiating an honesty and earnestness that was foreign and intoxicatingly attractive to Felix.
He felt himself kiss John, and felt John kissing back, before he couldn’t consciously understand what was happening. Which was a good thing, because this wasn’t something that he would do if he was really thinking. But he was tired and anxious and there was John and hadn’t John always been there? When Peter sent him to this world that he hated so much, John was there to guide him and buy him his favorite vodka and cigarettes. Like Felix had taught John how to survive Neverland, John had returned the favor. Nothing really made sense, but it felt right right now, in this moment, and the story book crap always said that mattered most.
When they pulled apart, John’s eyes were glazed over and blazing, staring at Felix like he was some sort of idol. It wasn’t a look Felix liked, he decided, recognizing something uncomfortably familiar with that look but knowing that when Felix looked that way it was at someone else and he wasn’t willing to examine that right now. “I’m sorry.” Felix whispered.
“Don’t be.”
“No, John, I’m sorry. I don’t...I don’t love you.”  John frowned, but he didn’t seem surprised, “I think I knew that.”
“Yeah.”
“I don’t care though.” John ran his fingers across Felix’s cheek.
“John...”
“I’m not stupid. Or blind. But...nothing lasts forever Felix.”
“What are you-”
“Never mind. Nothing. I know you don’t love me. That’s ok. But now it’s out there, and that’s better. And I still like you.”
“Oh.” Felix didn’t know what to say.
John forced a smile, “IF you liked yourself a little more, you might be able to see where I’m going with this.”
“I don’t.”
He shrugged, “I can wait.”
“Wait? Wait for me? John, that’s not going to-”
“No, not wait for you. I can wait for other things. I’ve been waiting a long time.”
Felix felt his shoulders slump and wrapped his arms around himself. “Sorry.”
“You have nothing to be sorry for.”
Felix sure felt like he did, the hot emotions suddenly cooling and leaving the other burning thoughts to scold his mind. It was too much. This was all too much. He looked at the sky and cursed as he blinded himself with a street light instead of the stars. He heard a loud honk as a car sped by, and suddenly the city seemed to blare back into horrendous life, as if it remembered that fairy tales weren’t for this world. Felix felt sick. Not beautiful or romantic but sick.
“Sorry,” He muttered again, and started walking again, his pace fast as if he could get himself back together if he ran fast enough, “Forget it. I’m sorry. Let’s just go home.”

John puts two of his non-bloodied fingers on the junction of the boy's jaw and neck. There's a pulse. Faint. Tremoring. Spaced apart. But it's there. He could almost whoop.
"Oh God," He sighs out, not aware he's avoiding a question. "He's got a pulse. He's breathing." A gasping breath, a quieter voice. "He's breathing."

runningawaywiththelostboys reblogged your post and added:
oh yes. This needs to be a thing.
no but. they look so weird when they're both standing behind the counter because here you have John, who's such a hipster and seems to take such painstaking rituals to keep himself looking nice, and then there's Felix. All snarly hair and dark hoodies. And of course there's the fact that they, so it seems, can't stand each other.
but it's a small franchise, so more often than not, they're working together.
they have to close up one day, there until 10. It was a slow day to begin with, so pretty much everybody was out before 7:30.
so they have chance to get to know each other.
surprise, surprise, they like a lot of the same books and authors, coffees, restaurants. and the miscalculated first impressions were a bit wrong.
I mean, it's not like they're bffs overnight, or even friends at all, but there's something more than it was.
afterwards it's a more pleasant working atmosphere. when they take lunch, they'll actually sit and talk to each other. when people leave for the night and the pastries they sell get cool they eat and talk, learn each other's preferred coffee order. Etc.
It isn't until after John meets Peter that he realizes he might be developing something akin to feelings. He doesn't like Peter from the get go. or the way Felix changes in front of him.
But they don't talk about it.
So, it must be said that John's a little confused one day after closing up shop when Felix invites him back to his (and Peter's) house because there's a party going on.
John texts Wendy and says he'll be late and not to wait up for him.
He's a bit uncomfortable at the party, is introduced to all their friends. Peter's busy entertaining and playing the drums in the basement, not much company for Felix.
Seeing John's discomfort, Felix takes John upstairs, away from the general party goers. They play Diablo III, talk about books, and may or may not end up making out.
but wait what if they wake up and john heads downstairs for breakfast and Wendy's pleasantly sleeping on the couch omg drama.

*whispers* elaborate on the headcanon you mentioned in the johnlix thing
The one about John being drawn to Felix? Seatbelts, everyone this gets involved.
So when the trio of Darling kids go to Neverland to try to rescue Bae, they’re promptly caught by the Lost Ones. As a “gesture of grace” Pan has the Darlings live with the Natives (they have their completely correct assumptions it’s to keep them away from Baelfire). John and Michael, however, are given something - I’m not sure if it’s a potion or a charm or even just an enchantment - that allows them to age.
They don’t really know it, but Pan’s keeping them on the island just until they can reasonably go out into the Land Without Magic to do his bidding - so until John’s about 18.
And while they’re with the Natives, only one Lost Boy ever comes to see how things are going. Pan’s mediator - Felix.
Okay, John doesn’t have the best people skills. He’s still young. And besides Edwardian manners are quite different than those on Neverland. But in spite of everything, he likes Felix. Just a little. He’s interesting, has this way of speaking that’s pretty to listen to and his such an intense sense of reality that it takes a few years before John thinks to question whether or not it’s a legitimate reality.
They become friends after a while, talking when Felix comes to visit. And Wendy and Michael don’t understand and John doesn’t either, he just likes it - he wants a friend here. I mean, come on, kid had to go through the traumatizing 12-15 years on Neverland, look me in the eye and tell me he didn’t look outside his siblings for friendship.
But it helps because, unlike what would be expecting from a Lost Boy, it seems like Felix wants a friend in John too.
Without realizing it, John is like giving Felix a taste of his own medicine.  Like John’s the guy who reassures Felix of this and that, who helps him out with little stuff, who’s got a gargantuan crush. Won’t really call him out if he disagrees until Felix asks him what’s with his expression.
But it can only last so long.
Obviously the friendship is ruined by the whole Pan holding Wendy hostage with her life in the balance if John and Michael don’t play nice.
Always the relationship killer.

John/felix/peter sleeping together? Yay or Na?
Well, okay, it depends on the scenario.
Like this would be a one-time-only, or to reoccur rarely when Peter's bored. But, like. John.
He knows he's going to hate himself in the morning. And - oh god - if Michael finds out...
But he's got a draw to Felix (headcanon I can elaborate later if anybody gives a damn) and maybe he can try to use this as leverage for Pan to let Wendy go...
This is basically an excuse for kink. Like as an OT3 or a relationship, hell naw. Not with Peter and definitely not in canon. But for kink?
Oh man, lay it on me.
