Okay, here's the post about the hints and tie-ins and things I put in my Flufftober stories.
Going to put a cut after Helen's for length's sake.
Helen's
I'm not actually sure my girl had any tie-in moments that weren't directly related to the series or weren't explicitly stated because her story laid the groundwork for the other four, but here are what I can think of.😂
Chapter 2
Hints at her mother knowing of abnormals and Gregory's work.
Chapter 4
Ties into John's chapter of asking Gregory for her hand in marriage.
Chapter 6
Really just plays off Biggie's refusing to leave so Helen gives him a position.
James's
Chapter 2:
James's "predilections that he was beginning to realize and had no place in his parents' home" was him figuring out that he had an attraction to men along with women.
Chapter 5:
James and Helen both being lonely in the 1930s and agreeing to not be lonely together after the Dallas Sanctuary was built was intended to be heavy, heavy implication of the beginning of the relationship John accused them of (and I think they clearly had) during World War II.
Chapter 6:
Really just meant to be a tie-in to "Five Times James Watson Was a Father and One Time He Wasn't" universe.
Also tying into James sending the telegram in Revelations Part 1.
Chapter 7:
Also meant to be a tie-in to "Five Times James Waston was a Father and One Time He Wasn't" universe.
Chapter 9:
A tie-in to my story "You Said You'd Never Leave" where I mentioned Helen was the one that performed the service at James's funeral in the private cemetery.
John's
Chapter 1
@samabigailalan 100% called this bit with John's mother being a foreshadowing of John with his monster and anger issues:
"--And being mad is not a bad thing, John. It only is if you make someone else suffer for it."
Chapter 2
Was mostly just historic tie-in of the real Montague John Druitt with his family.
Chapter 3
Directly tied into Helen's chapter with John from the same series, where John brought up taking her to a play and was relieved when she agreed.
Chapter 6
Loosely ties in with Nikola's chapter of them spending time together.
Chapter 8
Parts of Ashley's letter tie in with a fic I haven't written yet, mostly her teachers' views on her family.
Chapter 9
Some of John's dialogue to James hints at that James was aware of Helen's plan and the things that everything was building up to.
Also hints that John is aware at this point and may very well be involved with the Underground Sanctuary, but that one is left mostly to reader interpretation.
Nigel's
Chapter 1
Basically, baby Nigel checking out Gregory's pocket watch and Helen spotting him as well spotted by @chartreuseian.
Chapter 4
Parallels Nikola's chapter of leaving, but Nigel being uncertain of going himself.
Chapter 5
I accidently named the abnormal on James's end of the call after James's uncle from James's first chapter.
Also ties into a little plot bunny of Nigel and Helen being in Verdun together.
Chapter 9
The letter in Nigel's pocket that he needs to mail before he and Anna get ice cream is the letter he sent to Helen telling her Anna's existence, in case Anna needed help or protection one day.
Nikola's
Chapters 1 & 2
Basically just going off the mention of Marica being the real Tesla's favorite relative.
Chapter 4
Parallels Nigel's chapter of leaving. Also obvious tie-in to Helen's first chapter.
Chapter 7
--and Helen had, occasionally, reached out but had made it clear that she would contact him and he was never to contact her, no matter what and especially not through her Sanctuary. If he truly needed something from her, she had told him to go through James and he couldn't fathom why. James had told him nothing either.
This was intended to be a very heavy-handed reference to time travelling Helen.
It was Helen's future self that told Nikola no contact except through James, so that he wouldn't mess with the timeline. The Helen that Nikola and James are talking about is oblivious to his reasons for not contacting her.
Henry's little cameo was a tie-in to my headcanon of Helen returning to London during her pregnancy with Ashley and Ashley being born there. Loosely ties into "Five Times James Watson Was a Father and One Time He Wasn't" and "Remedying" because of the timeline. It also supports my writing of him as only around four years older than Ashley.
Chapter 8
Ties loosely into John's chapter of visiting Nikola earlier and both their memories of John seeking solace in Nikola during the Ripper killings.
Also directly leads into Nikola in Colombia in Trail of Blood and how he's aware of John being in Cambodia.
Chapter 9
Nothing but the stated historical tie-ins.
___
If there's more, I'm forgetting them, but oh well.

It got deleted! Fire for the Marauders, Sherlock and SW (any era), guy preference, I'm a girl! I usually hate talking about myself and would rarely share but I'm kind and caring to people. Slytherin and proud. Bookworm who also likes movies. Hate chaos above all, I always have some kind of a schedule in my head. I analyze every detail and am a bit shy, I like being alone but don't mind people. Truly inexperienced in the romantic stuff. INTJ. A bit shy but would making jokes and sarcastic comment
Marauder Era:
I ship you with Remus Lupin!
Alright so you and Remus are the responsible friends of the group, actively bringing down the chaos levels (which, without you, would be insufferable). Together, the two of you bring some semblance of order to the Marauders lives, and trust me, it's much appreciated.
I have no doubt that the two of you met thanks to the bumbling idiot that is James Potter - you and James were paired together for a class in your first year, let's say astronomy, and he gets so behind in the class that the teacher has YOU get him back on track - something about a peer influence. Anyway, you march up to Gryffindor tower to find James and maybe,,,, I don't know,,,, get him to do his homework,,,, and he's hanging outside the portrait hole, making jokes with his friends. You try your best to be reasonable, and your just shy enough to not be rude or anything, but James and Sirius were infuriating first years and they didn't listen to you at all.
When you leave, defeated, Remus runs up after you and tells you he'll try to get James to do his Astronomy homework. You say thanks, and two weeks later, James seems to have taken whatever the brown haired boy said to heart, because he's doing his homework consistently. You decide it's high time you thank this guy for his service, and you start to write him a thank you letter (much less embarrassing than a verbal apology - this way you can't stutter over your words or anything) when you realize you don't know his name. Damn. So now you have to thank him in person, and you approach him before potions. You thank him and he's sheepish and humble about it. Then, before you leave, you make sure to ask him for his name - just in case. Remus Lupin. You tell him yours and that's the end of that.
You see him through the halls in your second and third years, and it isn't until your fourth year that the two of you have reason to speak to each other. You have Potions together, and your partners. For a whole two to three weeks the two of you are pleasant to each other but don't really talk much. Neither of you are great at starting conversations, and it isn't until you see James and Peter pull a very obvious prank on a Slytherin, and Remus cover for them that you actually have something to say to him. "You clearly just lied to the professor." "Me?" And you scoff, but all Remus says is "He doesn't know that, though. Will you keep my secret?" "Sure. Consider it part of my thanks for first year." And you don't think Remus would remember but he does.
After that, the two of you end up talking more, and your crush on the quiet, mischievous gryffindor grows. One time, you hear him arguing with Sirius, defending you, specifically, saying that not ALL slytherins are evil - you certainly aren't.
It's by fifth year that your crush is full blown, and when you have dada with the Gryffindors, you get a little sidetracked by Remus, and when a good friend of yours notices, they tease you mercilessly.
Meanwhile, the marauders are teasing Remus, because he too has a crush on you - one that makes him blush terrible and renders him tongue tied when you're nearby
One day you're walking to the quidditch pitch for the game, and your friend is teasing you terribly about your crush on Remus. You're digging your head into your scarf to hopefully hide your blush, when you run right into Remus. Your friend is quick to fall silent, but you're sure it's a little too late for that. He's no doubt heard.
But.... it's not? Or at the very least, Remus doesn't mention it, just apologizes with a bashful blush and keeps going.
Little do you know, Remus definitely heard it, and now Peter and Sirius are exasperated asking him why he didn't say anything when it was the perfect opportunity. He says it wasn't the right time! You were already thoroughly embarrassed. But now that he knows you like him back.... well, it bodes well for his confidence, which needs all the help it can get.
He approaches you one day in the library, days before the end of school. You're sitting at a table in the corner, actually relaxing for once, a favorite novel in front of you, and Remus hesitantly slides in across from you. For a long while, the two of you just read your own books, until you finish a chapter and look up at Remus. You say you have something for him - a letter, since school is ending soon. You start rambling about how you're going on a trip and it would be fun to write to eachother since you both appreciate history and you'll be going to a few museums and Remus smiles gently and says he'd love to write to you.
You smile, and Remus starts to tell you that he has the biggest crush on you, but he can't being himself to do it, so he talks about his summer plans, too.
When he gets back up to gryffindor tower he's kicking himself because he didn't tell you how he feels, but then he remembers your letter, and he decides to open it.
And in the letter, you tell him how you're almost certain that he heard your friends teasing that day before the quidditch match, when you bumped into him, but in case he didn't (or didn't believe it) you wanted to put the record straight - you like him, and you're terrible with words, so putting it in a letter is the best way you know how to tell him and not completely embarrass yourself.
And Remus runs back to the library to tell you that he got your letter and that he likes you - really likes you - back.
And hell yeah you write letters to eachother over the summer it's vvv sweet.
ANYWAY, you and Remus are a perfect match for each other I'm in love with the idea.
Sherlock:
I ship you with John Waston!
Okay, so both of you have such similar temperaments, I can really see the two of you working out.
You're both introverted, sarcastic, incredibly caring, detail oriented, and bookworms. While John isn't as scheduled as you are (how can you be with a friend like Sherlock Holmes?), he definitely sees the importance in routines and likes doing things in more practical and sensible ways.
Both of you are naturally curious, fairly versatile, and very determined, which makes for a good relationship since your traits and values match up.
I think that John would love the steadiness you being to his life - you are predictable and calm, and you're also independent and able to take care of yourself. John had a lot to worry about on the daily, so the fact that you are reliable is good for him. It allows for a lot of peace of mind.
John would be the one to bring you more in touch with your emotional side - he's a very emotional person, and also very mature. He would bring in a lot of interesting elements to the relationship - simultaneously bringing you out of your comfort zone while also validating your limits and respecting them. You would be an interesting couple to watch.
I love the idea of the two of your writing together for his blog - or you acting as a beta reader and helping him come up with names for each case. The two of you like to sneak in witty jokes and one of your favorite pastimes is seeing how many nonsensical things about Sherlock you can include.
Also! I imagine that your rational though process and your attention to detail is helpful in cases, sometimes, since Sherloxk can get so caught up in the moment and disregard certain elements that might have come in handy. Otherwise, you're great at remembering little things to put in the blog, which makes Sherlock smile.
And may I suggest..... watching movies with John Watson. For once, he is glad he doesn't have Sherlock talking in his ear, going on about the inaccuracies or about how ridiculous it all is. BUT, he finds himself telling you some of the things that Sherlock would say, and the two of you talk through the movie, chatting about what tropes you think are washed up, and what dynamics you love to death.
When you read, though, it's a different story and the two of you are quiet. John will make you a tea or coffee and you spend the day on the couch, just reading and enjoying the other's presence.
Star Wars:
I ship you with Commander Cody!
Alright, but we support clones on this blog, and commander Cody is one of the best clones.
First of all, both of you are very similar. Both of you are smart, determined, thoughtful and versatile people who would work well in sync with one another. You're not the most trusting of people, but one your loyalty is earned, it's earned for life and you would lay down your life for the other. You are both strong willed people, and yet you also carry a deep tenderness to you.
Cody absolutely loves how well read you are - he loves to listen to your stories (especially if they have a good, soft ending) and he loves the way you look at books - the little details you remember, the ideas that you hold onto. It's a great escape for him, listening to you talk about the novels you've read or listening to you read aloud. This world goes so fast and there's so much evil that he sees, so to hear something good - something slow that progresses to a happy ending - means the world to him. It's a little bit of softness he allows himself.
He also loves your shyness. He thinks it's cute, how someone so smart and strong - someone who by all means should have a healthy amount of confidence - is quiet and mostly goes under the radar. It's also a nice compliment to his more commanding presence.
You are both just humble enough to have great respect while also being just outgoing enough when you're in the right setting, and it's perfect. There's never confusion between the two of you over why you're more quiet in some places or more extroverted in others. You just understand the other.
You are also just so caring of others - Cody cared for his brothers more than anything in the world, and to find someone just as caring is good for him. He loves with his whole heart, and he's glad you do, too.
Oh, and the two of you together? The most sarcastic - the galaxy was unprepared for your combined energies, and it's been unstable ever since.
I also can't get enough of you together in the field - maybe you're a Jedi or a recruit pilot or something, but the two of you fighting together is peak. You're both smart and practical in your approach to things, and you're also very determined and ambitious - you would always have each others backs and you approach problems in the same way, so you work efficiently as well.
But, then again, the quiet moments the two of you share are pretty sweet - you force Cody into watching movies with you, and he actually gets really into them. He loves sci fi and fantasy, and he probably really likes silent films or foreign films too. Idk why, I just get the vibes.
Oh! And if you ever want a good laugh, ask Cody about the shenanigans that Obi-Wan pulls througho it the day. He gets so exasperated by all the little things that the Jedi pulls, and listening to him rant about them is very funny.
#2.5k celebration!#celebration#lxncelotships#alright but when did these just become me writing scenarios? i'm so sorry when i get an idea i just run with it

@bewitchedbystars
Agrabah had tried hard to avoid any forms of war. But everything around them had become a tinderbox and eventually, things couldn’t go on as they used to and ward reached the small eastern kingdom after all. They found a group of wounded British soldiers. Dr. John Waston - according to his tags - was the highest ranking officer, it seemed. For a few days, Jasmine let her physicians work on the men, while she handled politics exclusively, trying to avoid an outright war if she could.
It was the night of the first bombs over a small city on the outer borders of Agrabah, that saw her visit the british men for the first time. Only candles illuminated the hall in which they were kept as she went to them, seeking out the man called John Watson.
“Dr. Watson. I was hoping not to have to see you as bad omen, but war has followed you, sadly. How are you feeling?”

The Pretender | Solo
In time our soul untold I'm just another soul for sale, oh well The page is out of print We are not permanent We're temporary, temporary Same old story
What if I say I'm not like the others? What if I say I'm not just another one of your plays?
You're the pretender
Who: Oliver Queen, Felicity Smoak, and Samanda Watson. What: The faithful end of an era. Where: Star City 2019
His head pounded from the influx of information. The last couple of hours came with earth shattering revelations. Amongst Diaz and the decaying walls of his marriage, it seemed the universe wasn’t quite finished fraying his sanity. The precious little girl bobbing in Felicity’s lap, giggling with the flashing images of Peppa Pig on the screen. Oliver missed the smile that seemed to slip onto Felicity’s lips. The implications of the visiting Queen fringed on the distant reality of the future. Rip’s instructions only slightly permeated the confusion laced enamor that caked up on his bones. Oliver was a grandfather--in some future that is.
With a labored sigh, he slowly stirred the pot of homemade mac and cheese. The absences of any real detail of the girl’s life, he banked on the essential feature of any toddler’s diet. No one can say no to mac and cheese and chicken nuggets. Oliver allowed himself to day dream over the bubbling pot of cheddar. The day worked lazily on. All the brimming chaos of the war waged on his soil muted for the calm of this impasse. Oliver’s phone rang without immediate answer. John would understand when he explained that the time traveling interloper brought a little piece of the future to the past for protection. Hopefully a little bit of vodka would help smooth out the kinks of that conversation.
Before he knew it, Oliver had been lost in his thoughts. The pot of boiling cheese sauce rolled over the sides. A small window into the bitter swirl of mayhem brewing in his home. Felicity’s security system wailed momentarily before the seams of their front door burst from the solid force of the ram that caved it in. Felicity swept Samantha into William’s room, the door left ajar to witness the rushing of bodies into their living room. The red laser point attached to the end of their rifles all trained on his chest. Oliver stilled at the ghoulish yet victorious grin on the familiar face of the Agent who hovered in the doorway. Samanda Watson sauntered in with her hands loose at her sides. She didn’t need to draw for her gun because Oliver wasn’t stupid enough to pull something now.
“I told you I would get you one way or another,” Watson spat. Oliver eyed the trained muzzle of the guns that bore down on his body. There was no way he could negotiate his way out of this. One wrong step and the hostility of the room would ignite an array of bullets. Oliver Queen was enemy number one in this city. The flashy yellow letters pressed into her navy colored jacket helped him center his thoughts. Oliver shot a glance at his wife to remain where she stood whilst he lifted his hands. “I’m not going to fight you but please do not point that gun at my wife. She’s innocent.” Oliver dropped to his knees, feeling the encircling pressure of the officers closing in on him.
“What am I being charged with?” The cheeky attitude still nipping at the forefront of his mind. Waston hummed in delicate to rattle off the charges. “You don’t get to demand answers, Queen. You have danced around the charges for years but we got you. You vigilantes believe that you are heroes but you’re not...” she stepped before him. Her boots brushing against his knees. “You, Mr. Queen, are being charged with racketeering, money laundering, vigilantism, and the aiding and abetting of growing drug cartels that plague this city. Who would have thought Mayor Queen would go so far as to perpetuate the issues so he play judge and jury. It’s over now. You’re going away for a long time.”

Their first meeting
"Mister Holmes? It's John Waston from London Insurance Ltd. Your landlady told me to..." Now in front of the open door, John leans a bit on his walking stick to peek inside the flat. "Sir? We phone yesterday about your insurance policy... We've got some questions."
"Oh yes... Right." A deep voice replies from an unseen corner of the flat. "Come in, it won't be long." After a pause, the man continues "And feel free to sit if you want, with the limp and all..."
What? How could he... And is it possible for a man to have such a silky voice? Defiantly staying up, John surveys the flat quickly while looking at the online form the client filled a week ago. A Stradivarius, rare edition of Newton's and Darwin's works, chemistry equipment... It's impossible for someone living in such a dump to... His eyes stop on the kitchen table turn laboratory. Is this a Bunsen burner! In a flat! The ex-army doctor conversion to the insurance world was pretty recent but he already knows that it wasn't good! He sighs, putting his notepad on the table. God, the things I've got to do to be able to afford a flat in London...
"Okay! Let's do that... Do you have questions? I thought I follow the form rigorously?" John turns to look at the man and stop breathing a second. He was stunning, thin, tall, with a mop of unbelievable curls and his eyes... Eyes that look like a constellation. "Mister Watson? Are you all right... Really, I think it's better if you sit down, even if it's psychosomatic I'm sure it's really uncomfortable."
Psychosomatic! How dare he! Frowning, John ask coarsely "What?"
Shaking his head as if unable to understand the craziness of the world, he mutters "Afganistan or Irak?" before turning back to his experience. "Do you have questions?"
"Yes..." John laughs sarcastically "How the hell did you know about my leg? And... war?"
"Oh... first the sound of the stick in the stairs. Your haircut, general fitness, stature etc all is saying military. Where someone approximatively 35-years old with clearly a military background can get a psychosomatic limp? Afghanistan or Irak."
"That's... that's brilliant." Nicely done Watson, John grown silently, really flirty.
Hiding a small smile by turning back to his microscope, Sherlock starts removing thumbs from a plastic container.
"Is.. this... thumbs!" John was looking at the crazy (but beautifully sexy) man.
"Yes, nothing can escape your eyes... So, the form? Questions?" Not acknowledging John Watson's curious eyes, he starts cutting the thumbs to get to the part he needs for his experience.
"What do you need MCP joint for? What's the point..."
MCP joint? Interesting... Looking at the man with a new wave of interest, he adds the medical field in his previous analysis. Medic... No, doctor. Really interesting. His line of thought was interrupted by the ringing of his phone. It was an exhausted Lestrade.
"Another one... And she left a note! I'm texting you the address. Anderson is on forensic, play nice!"
Closing his phone and getting up slowly, Sherlock walks until he was in front of the blond man. Looking at the ex-army doctor, he asks with a smile. "You're an army doctor..."
A little small one ;-) https://archiveofourown.org/works/14669319

作业代写:Fake news and Real news in The Age of the Internet
下面为大家整理一篇优秀的paper代写范文- Fake news and Real news in The Age of the Internet,供大家参考学习,这篇论文讨论了互联网时代的媒体新闻。
Introduction
The media and communication technologies have hugely developed in the past history period. They can more or less influence a country’s politics, economy, culture and society. The main purpose of this essay is to analyze and discuss the biases and culture studies of media and communication, and their implications of politics. The essay first discusses the role of media and communication in the U.S. election, and the biases in connection with media. Following this, it discusses the changes of the meaning of ‘news’ in different media technologies. It also analyzes the prospect and risks for the national cultures in an era of globalized media. Finally, it explains the relations and implications between media and politics.
Role of media and communication in the U.S. election
Media and communication has been playing an important role in the U.S. election (Hardt 1998, p.115). The emergence of new media has not only changed people’s daily life, it is also quietly changing people’s political life (Hardt 1998, p.116). Taking the Obama’s election as the example, Obama needs to door to door knocking for votes before the new media. After the new media, Obama can conveniently be for votes through the Internet.
In fact, the media has changed the political landscape in the United States. In the end of the 19th century, American newspaper media gradually developed (Hardt 1998, p.115). The leader of the media industry Pulitzer supported Cleveland to run for President after acquisition the world newspaper and exposed his political rival scandal, which was an important chip for the president election of Cleveland (Hardt 1998, p.116). On September 26 of 1960, in a TV studio, John Kennedy and his rival, Richard Nixon began the American history TV debate for the presidential candidate. Most audiences on the radio thought that Nixon gained the upper hand. However, the audience in front of TV can see that Kennedy was easier and more self-controlled. Kennedy won the presidential election later, although not all TV media credit, the televised debate has since become necessary link for the U.S. election.
In the 21st century, the Internet and other new media played an important role in the U.S. election. In 2008, Obama almost overturned the presidential election mode through making full use of the Internet. With the high popularization of the network, the network is one important way of public opinion. With the popularity of web 2.0, the network community paying attention to the user interaction and independent creation become the main force of leading the development of the Internet such as Youtube, Facebook, MySpace, etc. In these online communities, ordinary people can create web logs, upload video and pictures and express their own points of view. The young people of the United States are the first generation growing up with the Internet groups. Their behavior characteristics of the desire to share information and team orientation will influence the culture and politics of the United States. For example, the rise of the internet community such as MySpace and Youtube changed the social network, which further changed the political landscape of the United States.
Different uses of the term, bias, in connection with media
Bias is widely used in different methods in connection with media. Harold Innis often uses the term bias in a specific way. The term bias for his expression emphasized an objective approach rather not a preference or prejudice of a thing, which mainly refers to an inherent tendency of technologies of communication (Innis 2008 ,p.226). In terms of the media, the term bias approach can be used to explain related issues of media and communication. In Harold Innis’s book “The Bias of Communication”, he used the biases of communication technologies for what people call media. Innis (2008, p.228) thought that people can become more clearly of the implications of media communication on empires and individuals by understanding of the term bias with respect to media that refers to coloring our view of a particular thing. Innis also uses the word bias occasionally with a more common sense. For example, he called his own bias through comparing the oral form communication and written form communication for media. His view is that the written media communication form such as newspaper and books played a dominate role for a lot of years and have huge influence on the political pattern. For instance, it led to the outbreak of the two world wars. Innis (2008, p.229) also believes that the written communication can be easier and quicker to transform the information.
Edward Said also uses the term bias in covering islam events in the mass media. His bias for the treatment of islam coverage is that the main objective of coverage of islam events is to cover up the facts rather than expose it (Waston & Hill 2015, p.369). He thought that the news coverage should never view the Muslim countries in a simple way because the category it covers is very broad and it is not appropriate to describe the realities (Waston & Hill 2015, p.365). Edward Said also showed his bias on the use of the word “the west” on the mass media. He expressed his view that the term is value and misleading generalization. He thinks that the use of Christianity is the core definition of Islam. However, other countries should not use the religion to define their countries because the use of religion as defining the entire societies is often based on some reasons, for instance, covering up the realities.
Changes in the meaning of ‘news’
The news is in the early period presented with the printing press. The printing press mainly refers to the newspaper (Waston & Hill 2015, p.389). On the newspaper, the communicated information is quite limited. Many details of news can not reflected in the newspaper. In addition, it is impossible for readers to express their thoughts or opinions. Last but not least, the printing press only can achieve limited audiences.
In order to reach more users, the mass media rises, including the broadcast, film, video games and Audio recording (Waston & Hill 2015, p.389). The mass media can achieve ‘one-to-many’, namely reaching many audiences through mass communication (Waston & Hill 2015, p.389). Compared to the printing press, the mass media can pass the barriers of time and space to reach to those far removed audiences (Waston & Hill 2015, p.389).
Today, the new media form such as computers, tablets and so on plays a potential advantage of connecting people constantly. The meaning of ‘news’ in this form of technology media can be reflected through the word ‘connectivity’. The rise of Internet was first resulted from the blogs on which people can freely express their personal opinions and thoughts (Waston & Hill 2015, p.389). However, the blogs lack of the interactivity, which was achieved gradually with the rise of twitter and facebook. The new media mainly refers to the internet on which people can conveniently load the images and videos and comment on the online webs, which is a huge advantage compared to the traditional printing press. The most important is that the internet makes that people can experience themselves and the world. Compared to the old media technologies, the new media achieves ‘many-to-many’, which means that the news can reach masses of users. In return, the users can respond to them.
It is speculated that the future media will become quicker to connect people. In the future, the media will be intelligent technology combined with mature people thinking. This means that everyone has the ability to perceive the future and predict the future. People’s perception and the advice of others will be able to accomplish the future of an industry and promote the development of an industry.
The prospect and risks for national cultures
In the era of global media, the cultures’ spread among countries become quicker and a country’s culture can be hugely influenced by other countries’ culture (Baran & Barrosse 2004, p.287). Different countries can together discuss the cultural values and develop better value views to promote the social’s progress (Baran & Barrosse 2004, p.287). For example, the Arab Spring events proved that the ideology and cultural values are the keys to participate in the international competition in the smooth global information communication environment. As a national soft power, the spread of cultural values, on the one hand can play a positive role in promoting the global development. On the other hand, it also has the opposite effects. For one thing, the spread of the cultural values among countries through the global media can obtain the understanding and recognition. For another thing, the quick liquidity of hybrid information also to certain extent destroyed the traditional ethnic culture structure. Once the foreign culture value system countered to the traditional culture systems of the nationalities, it will lead to the outbreak of nationalist sentiment.
In a media globally era, the boundary of national cultures can be broken down (Baran & Barrosse 2004, p.287). For example, the Internet can influence the product process globally, which further declines the boundaries between economy and cultures. People become less secure on the support and a sense of community when the national culture is undermined in the global media era. For example, the global economy and media form makes the products can be traded on the international markets and the owners can fully take advantage of the cheap labor force in other countries. This is a threat of the local countries’ labors and they may face the unemployment or lower payment. The national or local culture will not operate in the difficult times. People more tend to the religion as a resource to help them spend the uncertain times.
Relations and influences between media and politics
The development of social media has an increasingly close interaction with the political activities, making the modern politics gradually to a new kind of political form (Baran & Barrosse 2004, p.287). The political process to a great extent has been communicated through media, including political management, public policy, political participation and political rule and so on (Baran & Barrosse 2004, p.287). Especially, the electronic government affairs occurred after the rise of the Internet, which made huge changes in the government management. In the information age, the government every time faces the huge pressure from the social media. As in 2008 initiated by former British politicians and senior civil servants, the press and television has been putting the huge pressure on the government and the government had little time to implement the coherent legislation and administrative decisions.
In addition, social media can influence the form of participating in the politics for people. Traditionally, young people use the elections or party membership to participate in the politics (Baran & Barrosse 2004, p.287). The occurrence of the social media makes people have new definition of the politics. People can review the politics as solving specific issues or adopt the actions rather than only the election framework. For example, the social media, Tunisian Bloggers, has an instrumental impact in promoting the country’s democracy. The occurrence of Bloggers makes people believe that real democracy can only happen through discussing and consulting the particular issues under the rule with the social media rather than through voting according to the rule. Therefore, the social media redefines the forms of politics as researching the specific issues and consulting people’s opinions rather than elections or party membership.
Last but not least, the social media can influence the social stability. For example, the social media makes more and more young people gaming on the Internet, including kids and women, which may lead to more family contradiction. In particular, when kids see many violence films or movies, they can follow the behaviors on the films and lead to the violence events in real life. This will raise the social issues and political instability.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the media and communication played an important role in the U.S. election. The different media communication technologies show different characteristics and means for news. Compared to the traditional media, the new media such as Internet can reach a large audience and gain the response of the audience. The globalized media also hugely influenced the international culture values and undermined the local countries’ culture. In terms of the politics implications, the media communication redefines the media as discussing the particular issues and consulting the people’s opinions rather than only party membership or election.

Galaxy’s Dos Santos brothers, 4 LAFC players named to World Cup rosters
Los Angeles Times – May 14, 2018
Monday’s deadline to submit provisional rosters for the World Cup starting next month answered questions for some of the 32 teams but raised doubts for others as top players continue to battle injury and fitness issues.
Mexico, England, Brazil, Russia, Germany, France and Tunisia are among the teams that have significant doubts about the availability of key players a month before the tournament kicks off.
Mexico cast aside injury doubts surrounding forward Giovani dos Santos and his brother, midfielder Jonathan, and announced that the Galaxy teammates had made the training camp team. Gio did not travel to Dallas for the Galaxy’s game last weekend and has sat out half their matches this season while Jonathan has played only 82 minutes in the last month because of injury.
If neither player is available to play in Russia it will end a streak of at least one Galaxy player appearing in every World Cup since the team’s founding in 1996.
Mexico also summoned forward Carlos Vela, who leads the Los Angeles Football Club with six goals, and 39-year-old defender Rafa Marquez, who retired from club soccer this spring. If Marquez, a surprise addition to the provisional roster, makes the cut for Russia, it would be his fifth World Cup selection.
Three other LAFC players landed on World Cup rosters with forward Marco Urena chosen to Costa Rica’s final 23-man roster while defenders Omar Gaber and Steven Beitashour were named to preliminary rosters by Egypt and Iran, respectively.
“It’s something that every player, every coach wants for his players,” Beitashour, who was on the Iranian team four years ago, said of the World Cup invitation. “It’s an honor. It’s the biggest tournament that any football player can dream of playing in.”
The four selections for LAFC are the most by any MLS team and that number could grow. Belgium isn’t scheduled to publicly release its provisional roster until next week, but it probably will include LAFC captain Laurent Ciman, who was on the 2014 team. If Ciman travels to Russia, LAFC could be without half its starting lineup for as many as six games.
John Thorrington, the club’s executive vice president for soccer operations, celebrated the selections.
“For all of our players that are eligible and have the potential to go play in a World Cup,” he said, “we are incredibly supportive and hope they do go and hope they do really well.”
Brazil, among the pre-tournament favorites, expects star forward Neymar to be a full participate when training camp opens this month. Neymar had a broken bone in his right foot repaired in March.
Defender Dani Alves, a two-time World Cup player, is sidelined after suffering a torn knee ligament in the French Cup final last week.
Germany, the defending World Cup champion, is monitoring the progress of goalkeeper Manuel Neuer and defender Jerome Boateng. Neuer hasn’t played since suffering a foot injury in September abd Boateng is sidelined after suffering a thigh injury last month.
England will definitely be without midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who underwent knee surgery this month, while Russia’s preliminary roster omitted forward Alexander Kokorin and defenders Viktor Vasin and Georgi Dzhikiya because of knee injuries.
Among those chosen as a replacement was 38-year-old defender Sergei Ignashevich, Russia’s all-time leader with 120 international appearances. He came out of international retirement to join the team.
Argentina put forward Sergio Aguero and midfielder Lucas Biglia on its roster, though both are injured. Aguero had minor surgery on his left knee last month; Biglia is trying to come back from two cracked vertebrae.
A knee injury will sideline Tunisia forward Youssef Msakni, the team’s leading active scorer with 14 goals, while France has confirmed it will be without Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny because of a ruptured Achilles tendon.
Banc of California Stadium will stage Gold Cup soccer matches next summer
Los Angeles Times – May 14, 2018
Banc of California Stadium, which has hosted four Major League Soccer games since its grand opening last month, is one of 15 venues chosen to stage matches for next summer’s expanded CONCACAF Gold Cup.
CONCACAF will roll out the announcement of the other 14 venues in 13 U.S. metropolitan areas this week. The tournament is scheduled to play over three weeks in June and July.
“The venues selected thus far offer a mix of soccer history as well as a taste of the future of the sport in the U.S. and we are excited to work with the local host committees to bring the game to fans all over the U.S.,” CONCACAF President Victor Montagliani said in a statement.
Banc of California Stadium, home to the Los Angeles Football Club, an MLS expansion team, is the newest and most expensive soccer-specific venue in the U.S. The price tag for the Exposition Park venue was $ 350 million.
The regional championship for teams in North America, Central America and the Caribbean, the Gold Cup is expanding to 16 teams this year. Six teams — Costa Rica, Honduras, Mexico, Panama, Trinidad and Tobago, and the U.S. — have already qualified for the tournament by virtue of reaching the final, hexagonal round of World Cup qualifying in 2016. Ten other teams will qualify for the Gold Cup next fall.
The Gold Cup is played every two years.
Whitecaps captain Kendall Waston heading to World Cup
The Province – May 14, 2018
Kendall Waston put his country into the World Cup.
That was a pretty big deal.
Now he’ll get to play a part in the big deal: He’s been confirmed in Costa Rica’s 23-man roster that will head to Russia next month for the 2018 FIFA Men’s World Cup.
This is the first time Waston, the Whitecaps’ captain, will be at the Cup; he was named to Costa Rica’s provisional 30-man roster for Brazil 2014, but was in the final round of cuts.
“It’s a huge accomplishment. I feel very happy. Very proud,” he said Monday after a hot and sunny practice at the University of B.C. “(I feel) a lot of emotions … I remember four years ago, it was a different feeling. Now, I can enjoy this moment.”
Whitecaps coach Carl Robinson got to tell Waston the news in front of his teammates (who celebrated by spraying him with water); the club also invited his wife, Priscilla, and son, Keysaack, to Monday’s practice.
“It was a great surprise, I didn’t expect my family here. I’m really thankful to the club, they always do special things for the players. Without my family, without my teammates, my coaches, I think this wouldn’t be possible,” Waston said.
After Robinson announced the news and Waston gave his wife and son a kiss, he gave a heartfelt speech to his teammates.
“I love coming here (to train),” he said. “In my heart, you guys are always going to be.”
Waston has won 25 caps for his country and scored three times, including the dramatic header against Honduras on the final day of qualification that put his country back into the Cup.
Los Ticos kick off their Group E Russian campaign against Serbia on June 17. They then face Brazil on June 22 and Switzerland on June 27. They’ve also got a trio of warm-up friendlies against Northern Ireland (June 3), England (June 7), and Belgium (June 11).
Waston, 30, will join Costa Rica after the Whitecaps’ home match May 26 against the New England Revolution. MLS is taking a nine-day break from June 14, the day the Cup officially opens, and June 22. Yes, that means MLS action will resume before even the group stage is over. As it stands, Waston will definitely miss games June 1 in Colorado, June 9 at home against Orlando and June 23 in Philadelphia.
Costa Rica and the other Cup teams were required to name a 35-man provisional team Monday, but Ticos coach Óscar Ramírez opted to skip right to his final squad. Six Costa Ricans playing in MLS were selected by Ramirez. Ex-Cap Christian Bolanos was also chosen.
(Teams can make injury replacements to their squads up until 24 hours before their first match in Russia.)
Waston has appeared in 99 MLS regular-season matches and scored 12 times since joining the Whitecaps midway through 2014.
Iraqi boy relishes chance to meet Timbers players, attend rivalry match while seeking medical help in Portland
The Oregonian – May 14, 2018
Mustafa Abed hasn’t had an easy life.
The 15-year-old Iraqi teenager lost his leg at the hip and suffered serious internal injuries during a U.S. missile strike in his hometown of Fallujah in 2004. Then in 2014, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, known as ISIS, took control of his city. This year, Abed and his family were forced to flee their home as Iraqi forces fought to reclaim war-torn Fallujah from ISIS control.
But amid the political turmoil and violence in his home country, Abed has managed to find an outlet in soccer. As an avid supporter of Real Madrid and huge fan of Cristiano Ronaldo, he has developed a deep passion for the game.
And on Sunday, soccer was the only thing on his mind as he happily sat on the bench at Providence Park and watched the Portland Timbers warm up ahead of their rivalry match against the Seattle Sounders.
“I couldn’t have imagined this,” said Abed through an interpreter. “Soccer is part of my life, it’s part of the excitement in my life.”
Abed came to Portland for medical treatment for the first time at the age of 5 in 2008 through the help of Maxine Fookson and her husband, Ned Rosch, who founded a Portland chapter of No More Victims, a nonprofit that raises money to bring children wounded by war to the United States for treatment.
During that initial visit to Portland, Abed was treated at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital and Shriners Hospital for internal injuries and fitted for a prosthetic leg.
No More Victims had hoped to bring Abed back for treatment every couple of years, but lost touch with him and his family after they returned to Fallujah. The nonprofit was only able to reconnect with Abed by chance after he appeared in a PBS Newshour segment on Fallujah in 2016.
Ten years after his first trip to Portland, Abed finally returned with his mother, Nidhal Aswad, last month to receive additional medical treatment.
“We were very happy and we started crying,” said Aswad through an interpreter about reconnecting with No More Victims. “I feel at peace. This is a dream come true.”
When the Timbers found out about Abed’s love of soccer, they immediately made an effort to connect with him. Abed and his mother attended a Timbers practice last week before taking in Sunday’s Timbers-Sounders game. They are also expected to be in attendance when the Portland Thorns host the Utah Royals on May 25.
The Timbers players and staff stood quietly in a circle at training last Wednesday as they listened to Abed’s story. After the practice, many of them came up to Abed to give him a hug or try to offer a few words of encouragement. Timbers coach Giovanni Savarese told Abed that he would be the club’s “good luck charm” in Sunday’s game, while goalkeeper Jeff Attinella and defender Zarek Valentin spent a while on the field passing the ball back and forth with Abed, who is able to kick a soccer ball thanks to the braces that he uses to walk.
“This is just pure joy for him,” said Geri Berg, a pediatric social worker who has assisted Abed on both of his visits to Portland. “Just looking at his face and the way he was smiling and how excited he was to be on the field with the players.”
The experience with the Timbers has been an important distraction for Abed amid all his medical appointments. Berg said that he is continuing to see doctors to determine what the next steps will be in his medical care. Berg said that Abed tried out a hand-powered bicyle at Shriners last week that could be a big help for him in getting around back home. She is interested in looking into raising money to send him back to Iraq with the bike.
“It’s multiple systems, multiple injuries,” said Berg about Abed’s health. “We’re just starting to get the feedback on what’s going to be possible.”
But Sunday wasn’t about hospitals visits or medical care. For Abed, it was just about enjoying the game that he loves.
Ahead of Sunday’s match, the Timbers gifted Abed a personalized jersey with his name and the No. 7, the same number as Ronaldo. He wore the jersey to Sunday’s match. It’s a memento that he will cherish.
“I feel like everybody has cared so much for him,” Aswad said. “He never got any care like this back in Iraq. I’m very happy all of this is happeneing.”
Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field to host 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup games
Philadelphia Inquirer – May 15, 2018
The Concacaf Gold Cup is coming back to Philadelphia next year.
Lincoln Financial Field will be one of the host venues for the 2019 edition of the biennial tournament, sources confirmed to the Inquirer and Daily News.
The official announcement will come Tuesday from Concacaf and the Eagles. It’s not known yet which games will be here, or which teams. But the odds are strong that the United States will visit in some form.
Next year’s tournament will be the fourth time overall that the Linc hosts the continental championship for North and Central American national teams. The venue hosted quarterfinal doubleheaders in 2017 and 2009, and the championship game in 2015.
The quarterfinals drew 31,165 fans in 2017 and 31,087 fans in 2009, with the U.S. involved both times. The 2015 championship game, featuring Mexico and Jamaica, drew a sellout crowd of 68,930 — the largest attendance ever for a soccer game in Philadelphia.
Also in 2015, Talen Energy Stadium hosted a third-place game between the U.S. and Panama that drew 12,598 fans.
Concacaf is spreading venue announcements throughout this week. It has already made two venues official: Los Angeles FC’s brand-new Banc of California Stadium in central L.A., and the Arizona Cardinals’ University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz.
Various sources with knowledge of the tournament confirmed reports that Minnesota United’s Allianz Field, set to open next year in St. Paul, Minn., will host the U.S.’ tournament opener; and the Cleveland Browns’ FirstEnergy Stadium will also be involved. The Carolina Panthers’ Bank of America in Charlotte, N.C., is another reported venue.
There will be 15 U.S. venues in total, spread across 14 markets.
The governing body also plans to stage parts of next year’s Gold Cup in Central American and Caribbean nations for the first time ever. Past editions have almost entirely been in the United States. Mexico City hosted games in 1993 and 2003, and Toronto hosted games in 2015.
Concacaf will also expand the Gold Cup field from 12 teams to 16 next year.
Atlanta United’s Robinson shines in second start
Doug Roberson – May 14, 2018
Atlanta United manager Gerardo Martino usually seems bemused when asked if younger players on the MLS team are going to make the 18 on game days.
His answer almost always includes the player’s age. It’s a soft exclamation point and rebuke that this is a professional league with important stakes, so he will players that he feels are ready.
One of those players, 21-year-old defender Miles Robinson, didn’t play in a league game for the team last season. Instead, after being selected with the second pick in the 2017 SuperDraft, the Syracuse product worked on the training ground with the senior team, and spent some time with the Charleston Battery.
This season, he again spent the early part of the season working with the senior team, and also spent some time with Atlanta United 2.
That work is starting to pay off.
Robinson has made two starts with the senior team this season and performed well in the 5-0 win against LAFC on April 7 and again in last week’s 2-1 win against Orlando City.
“As I said after the LAFC game, he’s ready,” Martino said. “He’s a player who’s improved a lot over the course of the last year. So we know he’s ready to play on days when he has to step up and help us out like today.”
Robinson kept things simple with his defending, staying close to his mark at all times and using his speed to recover on counters, and his passing — his biggest weakness — against the Lions. Facing veteran Justin Meram, Robinson held his own with two exceptions. Once, Meram was able to turn Robinson and create enough space to get off a shot. Goalkeeper Alec Kann got down low to his right to make the save. The second came when Kann punched away a shot. The deflection came right to Meram, who scored. Robinson didn’t have enough time to react. He attempted a tackle, but the play happened too quickly.
“It was a difficult ball,” he said. “I need to watch it again. Looking back, I would try to do something different.”
Martino said Robinson hasn’t played more because of the depth on the back line. Robinson may have started against Orlando City because of injuries to Chris McCann (hamstring) and Franco Escobar (chest).
Robinson may not start again for Sunday’s games against New York Red Bulls at Mercedes-Benz Stadium because it seems likely that Martino will switch from 3-5-2 formation that uses three centerbacks to a 4-3-3 that uses two centerbacks. Atlanta United is unbeaten in nine games using the 3-5-2, but the Red Bulls like to play from the back. Martino has said that teams he prefers the 4-3-3 against are teams that build play from the back.
Robinson doesn’t seem worried.
“I’m just trying to go and compete, play my best and that’s all I can do,” he said. “It’s up to the coaching staff to determine anything else. I’m happy that I got the opportunity to play again.”

LAFC star Carlos Vela named to Mexico’s provisional World Cup roster
SB Nation Angels on Parade – May 14, 2018
Monday is the deadline for countries headed to the World Cup to release their provisional rosters for the tournament, and that includes Mexico. National team boss Juan Carlos Osorio revealed his 28-man preliminary roster, and as expected, Los Angeles Football Club forward Carlos Vela is on the list.
Vela, 29, has played in one senior World Cup in his career, in 2010. He skipped the 2014 tournament due to a long-standing dispute with the national team, but fences have been mended in the meantime.
Vela is considered one of Mexico’s core players, and barring injury he will be on the plane to Russia. He will almost certainly miss four league games (May 26 vs. D.C. United, June 2 at FC Dallas, June 9 at San Jose Earthquakes, June 23 vs. Columbus Crew SC), and that could be more depending on when he’s called away by Mexico and how deep El Tri goes in the World Cup.
Osorio still needs to trim five players off the prelim roster, but again, if there’s no injury or other personal catastrophe in the meantime, he’ll be on the plane to Russia. Felicidades a Carlos!
RSL goalkeeper Nick Rimando’s 200th MLS win makes for a special night
Pro Soccer USA – May 14, 2018
Nick Rimando was on the verge of 200 Major League Soccer wins for weeks.
Two weeks ago, Real Salt Lake dropped its match with the Vancouver Whitecaps. One week ago, the team fell short against Orlando City SC after jumping out to an early lead.
This weekend, for a split moment, it almost seemed as if it would take another seven days for Rimando to get to 200 after D.C. United got the go-ahead goal in the 10th minute.
However, Rimando’s teammates stepped up their game and beat D.C. 3-2 so the team could earn three points and so Rimando could finally reach his 200th win. And in a way, RSL losing two games on the road first, though not ideal, made Saturday’s night win all the more memorable because Rimando got that elusive win in front of family and fans at Rio Tinto Stadium, a place he’s called home since 2007.
Longtime teammate Kyle Beckerman reflected on Rimando’s accomplishment as he handed the goalkeeper a trophy commemorating the milestone.
“It was great to be a part of it with him and all the hard work he puts in, he’s the best,” Beckerman said. “Every time he plays he’s breaking another record, and it’s really cool to be a part of.”
Rimando’s son and daughter accompanied him during postgame celebrations and even went to his postgame press conference as they looked up at their father in awe.
Rimando’s wins come from playing with the Miami Fusion, D.C. United and, of course, Real Salt Lake during his 19-year career. In early August, 2016, Rimando passed former LA Galaxy goalkeeper Kevin Hartman for the goalkeeper with the most all-time MLS wins as. Hartman recorded 180 wins in 17 seasons. And wins isn’t the only record Rimando has to his name. In August, 2014, Rimando broke Hartman’s record for most career shutouts in the MLS and he’s currently sitting at 138 shutouts.
Setting and breaking records nothing new for Rimando, and though he takes pride in his personal achievements, he would much rather focus on the support system that helped him achieve those milestones.
“The longevity of my play, the consistency of my play, the trust I get from my teammates and the coaches, I take a lot of pride in that, so to play this many years and to get to 200 is special,” Rimando said.
And funny enough, a couple of his milestones — the 200th MLS win and dethroning Hartman for career shutouts — came at the expense of D.C. United.
“When they come in town, there’s something to achieve,” Rimando jokingly said.
Ben Olsen, D.C. United’s head coach, isn’t happy Rimando keeps breaking records against his team, but he did applaud him for all the time and work he’s dedicated to the league.
“He’s stayed healthy, and that’s a huge component of playing as well as he has,” Olsen said. “He’s taken care of his body, and it helps he’s a goalkeeper, they end up playing a little bit longer. But he’s an unbelievable competitor and a dear friend, so I’m very happy that he’s the guy breaking records.”
Teammates laughed as they said Rimando should go for 300 wins. It’s hard for them to imagine the organization without him. RSL will lose part of its long-time identity once Rimando finally does hang up his cleats.
“It’s a special night for Nick for sure, not just for Nick but for all of us in the locker room, the players, the organization,” Petke said. “Nick represents this organization along with guys like Kyle, Toney Beltran, and any time he can be recognized like this is phenomenal.”
For now though, his fans, his teammates, his coaches and, most importantly, his family are all enjoying what a special night it was Saturday.
“We’ve had a lot of big games and special moments, played a lot of years here and to do it front of those fans is special because they’ve had my back and have supported me for so many years,” Rimando said. “I’m lucky to play here in front of those fans and to do it in front of them on this special night is something I’ll remember for a long time.”
Brad Friedel’s lineup changes set Revs up for success against Toronto
Pro Soccer USA – May 14, 2018
The New England Revolution survived a late, two-goal rally from Toronto FC to secure a 3-2 victory at Gillette Stadium on Saturday night. New England’s victory keeps the club in playoff position and improves its record against TFC to 13-6-9 all-time.
Here are three takeaways from the Revolution’s win:
High press stumped Toronto early
It took about 10 seconds for the Revolution to play their first ball into the box Saturday night, four minutes to open the scoring and another three minutes to double their lead. Toronto gifted New England with some awful passing out of the back to start the game, but Cristian Penilla took his chances extremely well as he helped the Revs jump to a 2-0 lead.
Revolution coach Brad Friedel hasn’t kept his intentions, particularly home games, a secret: the Revolution are going to press. They’re going to clog the midfield. And they’re not going to stop until they catch their opponents and score.
It’s remarkable how hard it’s been for opposing teams to work around the Revolution’s press. Then again, New England has boasted some of the most dynamic and clinical attacking options in Major League Soccer for years; maybe the high press is finally helping the team maximize its strikers and offensive-minded midfielders.
Toronto shot itself in the foot at the start, and though the visitors found their form eventually and recovered two goals, the damage had already been done.
Friedel’s lineup changes deserve credit
Toronto wasn’t at full strength, choosing not to start Sebastian Giovinco, Chris Mavinga, Ashtone Morgan and Victor Vazquez. Michael Bradley even played out of position at centerback.
But TFC’s lineup was capable. It just started off poorly – thanks, in large part, to Friedel’s lineup changes.
Scott Caldwell and Kelyn Rowe returned to the starting XI, giving the Revolution a more attack-minded approach to moving the ball in the center of the pitch. Caldwell was instrumental in helping the Revs win, as he intercepted a Bradley pass to start the breakaway that led to Penilla’s first goal.
Next, Friedel named Antonio Delamea and Chris Tierney starters, pulling Claude Dielna and Gabriel Somi from central defense and left back, respectively. Delamea ended the game with an own goal and Tierney caused the foul that led to Giovinco converting from the penalty spot in the 89th minute to make it a one-goal game.
But Delamea was unlucky on the deflection that led to his own goal and the penalty call on Tierney’s foul was soft.
In any case, Tierney had a passing accuracy of 77 percent, made four tackles and intercepted one pass. Delamea completed 78 percent of his passes, made one tackle and had three interceptions.
Stats aside, the performances from Delamea and Tierney were a stark departure from the poor display offered by Dielna and Somi in New England’s last game, a 4-2 loss at Montreal. Somi completed a paltry 48 percent of his passes in that game, while both he and Dielna, along with the rest of the Revolution back line, left patches of space for the Impact to attack.
Friedel didn’t throw anyone under the bus last Saturday, but clearly stated changes were necessary after the result in Montreal and that those who work hard in training will be rewarded.
Delamea’s own goal and Tierney getting called for a penalty kick shouldn’t distract from otherwise positive performances by both players.
Matt Turner, MVP
Arguably the most important part of Saturday’s game came between the 20th and 30th minutes, when Revolution goalkeeper Matt Turner made three key saves.
Turner’s best stop of the game – which Friedel later singled out in his postgame presser – came in the 26th minute when he went left to get his fingertips on a left-footed drive by Tosaint Ricketts. That was Toronto’s best bid to pull one back before halftime. Had that chance – or any of the others TFC put on frame in the first half – gone in, the dynamic would have changed greatly at the start of the second half.
Penilla scored twice and Teal Bunbury had the eventual match-winner, but Turner’s saves were, from a defensive perspective, the real difference.
Turner, who made his 10th-consecutive start Saturday, has earned his keep. He boasts MLS’ second-highest save percentage (72.9) and is also sixth in the league in saves (35).

Mycroft has been a frequent visitor as of lately. Not much is spoken of when he stops by, but on his latest visit we managed to strike up a conversation about Sherlock's habit of snooping. I told him about the time when Sherlock managed to dig up some of my childhood photographs and commented "the baby fat should soon go away if you tried." Though I was quite angry with him then, I managed to share a good laugh with his brother.
After that we finished our tea and said goodbye for the time being.
Yesterday, I retrieved the mail and found these photos pinned together in an envelope. A note came with it. "Revenge for you jumpers, my dear Watson."
