Glad rags
I was culling misfits from my sock drawer (a task I undertake once every couple of decades, or so) when I came upon these glad rags - remnants of past Tigers' glory days.
They're all from former play-off games - handed out for free to patrons of the game and meant to be fluttered to celebrate big moments in the game (probably, says my cynical self, to impress the TV audience).
Only one of the flags has a date on it: 2014 - the last year, before this one, that the Tigers made the play-offs. It was the year the Tigers finished first in the AL Central, (90-72), but then got swept in the AL Division Series by the Baltimore Orioils. I still feel the sting.
The Tigers will meet the Astros in Houston this afternoon, in the first game of a best-of-three series.
What was that we said in 1984 ...? Bless you, boys.

Live ... from Murrells Inlet
My brother called me Thursday to report an unexpected Lord Huron moment ...
After spending a couple days with us at Hilton Head, my brother and his wife were at a restaurant called the Dead Dog Saloon in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, near Myrtle Beach. The place features live music. The duo playing that night (pictured above) calls itself Sweet Sweet.
The set included a version of LH’s “Time to Run.” from the “Lonesome Dreams” album.
I get fairly frequent reports from friends who hear recorded LH songs in bars, restaurants, coffee shops, etc., but this is the first time I’ve heard of a live performance of a LH song outside a LH concert.
