Do you think Lem Billings and JFK were really a couple?
I don't know what on Earth possibly gives people that idea...
...okay, well, I understand.
But, even with that compelling photo in mind, no, I do not believe that John F. Kennedy and Lem Billings had a sexual relationship with one another. It's widely believed that Billings was gay and he was absolutely devoted to JFK and the Kennedy family, but there isn't any evidence that they were anything more than extremely close friends. There's a very short book that was released last year called John F. Kennedy's Hidden Diary, Europe 1937: The Travel Journals of JFK and Kirk LeMoyne Billings (BOOK | KINDLE) that includes JFK's diary and Lem Billings' scrapbook journal as they traveled through Europe together from July to September 1937. While it's unlikely they would have recorded it if something had happened between the two of them on the trip, JFK doesn't hesitate to write about his many observations and interactions (and attempted interactions) with women basically every other day for two months. It's not a very detailed diary, but the number of times Kennedy mentions "girls" is a reminder that he was always a notorious womanizer. Does that mean he couldn't have been bisexual? Of course not, but there's also nothing more than baseless, decades-old gossip suggesting that.
