Nueva Ecija clinches OKbet-MPBL North division crown
Nueva Ecija flaunted its might once again and demolised San Juan, 84-68, to clinch the North division crown of the OKbet-MPBL (Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League) 4th Season Presented by Xtreme at the overflow Nueva Ecija Coliseum in Palayan City.
The Rice Vanguards, with Will McAloney at the helm, withstood the best the Knights could offer in the fourth quarter to win the Game 3 decider pulling away, ending the title playoffs at 2-1.
With the count at 82-68 and Nueva Ecija’s Hesed Gabo rewarded with two free throws, Sen.Jinggoy Estrada, co-team owner of the Knights, approached the Nueva Ecija bench and conceded defeat, to the delight of over 6000 fans who filled the coliseum to the rafters with hundreds more turned away.
McAloney wound up with 15 points and 8 rebounds, trailing only John Bryon Villarias’ 19 points, including 15 in the first half.
Other Rice Vanguards who delivered were Christopher Bitoon, a non-factor in the first two games with 9 points, 6 assists and 3 rebounds, Michael Mabulac with 8 points and 11 rebounds, and Game 2 hero JR Taganas with 7 points and 4 rebounds.
Nueva Ecija team owner Bong Cuevas received the championship trophy from MPBL Commissioner Kenneth Duremdes.
San Juan put up a tough stand in the first half, but eventually wilted under the constant bombardment of the Rice Vanguards, who have posted a 27-1 record thus far.
Meanwhile, Zamboanga Family’s Brand Sardines and Batangas City Embassy Chill tangle for the South division crown on Saturday at the Mayor Vitaliano Agan Coliseum in Zamboanga City.

Just in time for the yuletide, Tagaytay nearby residents and visitors can enjoy the great weather and beautiful backdrop, with another attraction to see, the Fora Mall.
Fora Mall, is part of the another venture of the real-estate company Filinvest Development Corporation.
Located along the Emilio Aguinaldo Highway in Tagaytay City, Fora Mall is the forefront of the three-district mixed development of Filinvest dubbed as Fora Tagaytay. Other sections include a two eight-storey condominium and a two 10-storey condotels to be operated by Filinvest Hotels Inc. via Quest Hotel brand.
The development will also feature a forest-themed garden around the amphitheather making it an ideal location for special events like weddings and parties.
Fora Mall, a Lifemall
Like its previous mall in Alabang, the Festival Mall, Filinvest harnesses what it has learned through the years from Festival Mall and adapted it to its newer Tagaytay mall-counterpart.
“A Lifemall is not just another fancy name for a chain of shopping center establisments from Filinvest. A Lifemall is designed to be the center of life and activity wherever it is located. A Lifemall brings life to the city and it enhances recreational lifestyles of the people who live and work nearby. A Lifemall will be seen as a place where people’s needs and passions find an ideal balance,” as defined by Joy Polloso, Filinvest senior vice president for commercial centers and retail management during the inauguration of the Christmas tree outside the Fora Mall.
Changing Tagaytay
Fora Mall aims to change the landscape of retail in Tagaytay City with worlddass shops and amenities fit for the city’s growing number of discerning clientele.
One of Fora Mall’s anchor stores is Super Metro Hypermarket of the Metro Retail Stores Group, Inc (MRSGI), the country’s first ever 24-hour hypermarket that will provide shoppers in Tagaytay City a one-stop shopping experience as only a combined supermarket and department store can deliver. Super Metro Hypermarket also houses complementary outlets Metro Pharmacy, Suisse Cottage bakeshop, a bills payment center and foreign exchange center.
Fora Mall also has four digital cinemas, something which the residents of City of Tagaytay has been looking forward to. The state-of-the-art cinemas occupy an area of over 2,000 sq meters with over 200 reclinable seats per cinema and an impressive Dolby Digital surround sound system.
“With our cinemas, people now have an easier, more convenient option for entertainment – and it is digital! · says Polloso.
Among 300 retail outlets scheduled to open this month are KTZ Hot Pot, Lady Christine’s, Classic Savory, and Uncle Cheffy’s for dining ; Levi’s, wrangler, Broadway Gems, and La Sedia for retail ; and Nails. Glow and Nuat Thai for wellness. More shops and stores like Abenson, Ace Hardware and Uniqlo are set to open in phases.
Opening Activities
With the giant Christmas Tree formally turned on as part of the formal holiday merriment in Fora Mall, there are other activities in Fora Mall that can capture the eyes and hearts of mall-goers.
John Ablaza’s Le Petit Coutoure Collection, which was exhibited at the Philippine Embassy in New York in time for the celebration of Independence Day last June, will be showcased in Fora Mall.
The collection is composed of 13 special gowns measuring 18 inches (miniature versions of his gown collections), all meticulously hand-made, and each named after a woman who has made a difference in Abalaza’s life. The designer hopes to tour these pieces around the world to showcase the pride of Philippine culture and fashion.
Also being launched is”Paint a SILYA”(Sa lyo Loto at Lola, Yantok ming Alay), an installation of rocking chairs for the elderly given an artistic twist by multi-awarded artist Pancho Piano who has been commissioned to create the first painted SILYA masterpiece. With this tie-up, Fora Mall mall aims to be more accommodating to the elderly while showcasing the skill and caliber of Filipino artists.
Other Filinvest Lifemalls include Festival Mall in Alabang, Muntinlupa, II Corso in City in Cebu, and Main Square in Bacoor City, Cavite.
Another attraction in #Tagaytay City opens, the Fora Mall #Travel #ForaMoments #ForaMallTagaytay #ForaForPassions #ForaForArts #ForaForTagaytay #ForaOwnsFriday Just in time for the yuletide, Tagaytay nearby residents and visitors can enjoy the great weather and beautiful backdrop, with another attraction to see, the Fora Mall.

New York welcomes Zim fashion designers
American photographer Jhenny Morales Evans and Philipino fashion designer John Ablaza visited Zimbabwe in 2016 where they conducted workshops for local designers and models.
Along with Mithi Aquino Thomas, wife to Ambassador Harry K. Thomas Jr. they have taken some of this work to America’s fashion capital as part of earlier commitment to improve the livelihoods of Zimbabwean fashion designers, writes Cristina DC Pastor of the Filam, a magazine for Filipino Americans in New York.
The Filipina wife of US Ambassador to Zimbabwe Harry Thomas knows a thing or two about fashion, and what it means for fashion to empower women.
With this goal in mind, Aquino Thomas led the effort in organising the show “John Ablaza: Couture & Culture” showcasing Zimbabwean fashion as seen through the eyes of Filipino designer Ablaza.
That New York, America’s fashion capital, was the chosen venue made the collaboration a truly “global effort,” noted Ledy Almadin of the Philippine American Chamber of Commerce.
On December 10, Couture & Culture unveiled the collections of “eco designer” Ablaza and guest designer Yvette Ndaba. Aquino Thomas was one of the models.
“I wear John’s clothing not only because it is truly beautiful but because of the strong commitment he has to the international community especially women designers in the Philippines and Zimbabwe,” she said in her opening remarks.
Ablaza visited Zimbabwe early this year and conducted a series of workshops with local artists and artisans. The workshops were held in the capital of Harare and in the populous city of Bulawayo.
There, he lectured on design techniques using native materials, such as beads, leather, and feathers, and mentored aspiring designers on how to make their creations acquire a more “international look.”
“… Ablaza and Morales Evans visited Zimbabwe, met local designers and models and convinced them of the beauty and importance of their work,” said Aquino Thomas.
“John pledged to bring the best of their creations to America’s fashion capital and here we are tonight as proof of his commitment to improve the livelihoods of little known but supremely talented designers.”
Evans, a fashion photographer, chronicled Ablaza’s months-long journey in the southern African country. His 30-year experience in the fashion industry and “his kindness” made him a credible authority.
Couture & Culture was a parade of vibrant colors reflecting the rich African heritage. Ndaba’s textiles are mostly striking patchwork prints paired with gauze weaves or leather accents. One gown with ball sleeves stood out, and this particular design structured a mix of uncoordinated prints, colors, and textures in one body hugging maxi — a “no rules-just style” fashion statement.
Ablaza’s collections dominated the show. His designs straddled the dichotomy between spirited and showy African colors and muted naturals. There were gowns in geometric indigo prints, crocheted skirts in whites, and formal blacks. In one segment, shirtless male models wore only bowties boasting Zimbabwean beadwork. Silent auction for the bowties had an opening bid of $150 each.
Ablaza said he had witnessed so much “creativity” and “positive attitude” while working with the Zimbabwean people, and would love to continue working with them in their pursuit of making it big in the fashion world. Part of the proceeds from the show will benefit Zimbabwean children, he said.
Aquino Thomas said the fashion industry faces many challenges. “Sustainability is one of them.” She said, “I am thrilled that John’s goal is to produce eco-conscious clothing through the use of environmentally friendly materials and socially responsible production.”?— US Embassy in Zim
