What animal has the scientific name 'Suricata suricatta'?
A meerkat ('Suricata suricatta') is a small mammal that lives in the Kalahari Desert in southern Africa. Despite its name, it is more closely related to the mongoose family than to cats.
The African name for the meerkat is 'suricate'. In 1776, Johann Christian Daniel von Schreber described a meerkat from the Cape of Good Hope, giving it the scientific name 'Viverra suricatta'. Later, the generic name 'Suricata' was proposed by Anselme Gaëtan Desmarest in 1804. A combination of both names, 'Suricata suricatta', was first used by Oldfield Thomas and Harold Schwann in 1905.
Meerkats live in burrows in the ground. They are active during the day, except at the hottest part of the day. They usually live in large family groups led by a female and a male.
Meerkats can share their burrows with many different animals, such as other mongooses and sometimes squirrels who live on the ground. Sometimes even a snake will share the burrow with a meerkat.

The German naturalist Johann Christian Daniel von Schreber (1739-1810) named the genus for Gotthilf Heinrich (Henry) Ernst Muhlenberg (1753-1815) who was American born but returned to his ancestral Germany for schooling and later returned to America. 3 It is part of what Waters has labelled the 'Trash Trilogy', which also includes Female Trouble (1974) and Desperate Living (1977).

LUXURY Cat bite back shirt
Until recently, cats were thought to have been domesticated during the period of ancient Egypt, where they were worshiped. [6] A 2007 study showed that all domestic cats may have originated from domesticated African wild cats (Felis silvestris lybica) around 8000 BC, in Near East. Cat bite back shirt Recent evidence indicates that domesticated cats are contestants. a kitten is buried with its owner 9,500 years ago in Cyprus. Johann Christian Daniel von Schreber named the wildcat Felis silvestris in 1775. The cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) occurs mainly in eastern & southern Africa and parts of Iran. It was first described by German naturalist Johann Christian Daniel von Schreber in 1775. The cheetah is characterised by a slender body, deep chest, spotted coat, a small rounded head, black tear-like streaks on the face, long thin legs, and a long spotted tail. Its lightly built, slender form is in sharp contrast with the robust build of the big cats, making it more similar to the cougar. The cheetah reaches 70-90 cm at the shoulder, and weighs 21–72 kg. Though taller than the leopard, it is notably smaller than the lion. The coat is covered with nearly 2,000 solid black spots. Cheetahs are active mainly during the day, hunting being their main activity. Adult males are sociable despite their territoriality, forming groups. Females are not territorial; they may be solitary or live with their offspring in home ranges. Cheetas mainly prey on antelopes and gazelles. They will stalk prey to within 100–300 m, charge towards it and kill it by tripping it during the chase and biting its throat to suffocate it to death. The cheetah's body is specialised for speed; it's the fastest land animal. The speed of a hunting cheetah averages 64 km/h during a sprint; the chase is interspersed with a short bursts of speed, when the animal can attain 112 km/h. Cheetahs breed throughout the year. Gestation is nearly 3 months, resulting in a litter of typically 3-5 cubs, though the number can vary from 1-8. Weaning occurs at 6 months; siblings tend to stay together for some time.

The cheetah is for me the princess of the Bush 💛🖤. . It is the fastest land animal. The only extant member of the genus Acinonyx, the cheetah was formally described by Johann Christian Daniel von Schreber in 1775. . The Bank Vole
Superorder: Euarchontoglires
Order: Rodentia
Family: Cricetidae (voles)
Genus: Myodes - "Key-hole Mouse"
Bank Vole: Myodes glareolus
The Bank Vole is a small vole from the Genus Myodes. Its fur is mix of Brown, red and grey. It was given its binomial name by Johann Christian Daniel von Schreber in 1780.
Typical Vole species that looks similar to a house mouse. However unlike a mouse it has a stouter body and rounder head, as well as a shorter and more hairy tail. The ears on the Bank Vole are larger than other voles. The average body length ranges from 83 - 121mm. The tail ranges from 38 to 76mm.
Young Bank voles have a darker fur colour.
Found in Forests with scrub and low plants. Also found in hedgerows and SUPRISINGLY river banks. It can be found in mountainous regions as high as 1.8km. Groups of Bank Voles often vacate areas depending on the season. The Bank Vole is one of the most common Mammals in Britain with a population of around 23 million.
Bank Voles have a paleartic distribution, being found in most of Britain. It also lives in most of Northern and Eastern Europe. It is absent from most of the Iberian Peninsula.
The Bank Vole is active during both the day and night and does not hibernate at Winter. The Bank Vole will create long winding burrows with multiple exits. Like many rodents it stores its food underground and creates a small nest out of dry grasses and moss.
Like most Voles, the Bank Vole is herbivorous and its diet includes grasses, buds, nuts and grain. Occasionally it eats insects and small bird eggs. Some voles will create separate food storage areas in their burrows.
In regards to reproduction the animal is said to be 'promiscuous' by nature and the female will often reproduce with the dominant male. Gestation lasts from 17 -24 days and around 1-10 pups are born. Interesting to note the short gestation time when compared to humans.
Female Bank Voles have been known to kill the pups of other Females....disturbing.
Bank Voles are preyed upon by a large number of animals such as the Red Fox, Stoat and Common Kestrel.
Unfortunately the Bank vole can act as a carrier of the Puumala Virus which can be deadly to Humans. In 2014 a Finnish Researcher was infected by this virus while studying the animal and sadly died.
Strangely the Bank Vole is said to make a sound similar to a human cry when distressed. Now that just sounds eerie to me... I'll try and dig up some information on this.
