Joan Weng-Café unter den Linden Ein wunderbarer Liebesroman 🍰🌸🌼🌹 Fritzi entflieht der Süddeutschen Provinz in das Berlin der 1920-Jahren, um die Ödnis der Provinz und ihr altes Leben hinter sich zu lassen. Sie ist jung, ziemlich selbstsicher und aufgeweckt. Genau die richtige Mischung um im quirligen, aber auch sehr rauen Berlin dieser Zeit ihr Glück zu finden und ihr eigenes Leben zu gestalten. Die junge Frau kommt im umgebauten Gartenhäuschen, das zu einer alten und ziemlich verlotterten Villa eines Kriegsveteranen, den ihr verstorbener Vater kannte, unter. Dort lebt sie mit einem schwulen Pärchen zusammen, die Künstler sind. Ja, die ganze Villa ist eine freie Künstlerkolonie, die ein Sammelsurium von interessanten Figuren beherbergt, inklusive des der wahren Kunst verfallenen Hausherrn, eben des ehemaligen Freundes ihres Vaters. Und die Geschichte kann losgehen! Ich habe das sehr unterhaltsam geschriebene Buch gern gelesen, da es die bunte Welt der Weimarer Republik mit all ihren Abgründen ziemlich pointiert beschreibt. Klar, es ist auch ein Liebesroman, in den aber viel eingepackt wurde, wie zum Beispiel die chauvinistischen mächtigen Männer, die die Träume junger Frauen schamlos für ihre sexuellen Eskapaden ausnutzen sowie die Macht des Geldes ganz allgemein. Das Buch hat trotzdem eine angenehme Leichtigkeit, so dass ich in die damalige Zeit eintauchen konnte, ohne danach Alpträume zu haben. Und man merkt, dass die Autorin eine ausgewiesene Kennerin der Verhältnisse der Weimarer Republik ist, was dem Buch sehr zugute kommt. Joan Weng promoviert aktuell über die Literatur jener Zeit. Kurz gesagt: Mir hat das Buch sehr gut gefallen, und ich werde wieder einmal etwas von ihr lesen. This proved to be her final new production at the Royal Opera House and she & Mo’ Ricky Bonynge were enthusiastic about John Pascoe both directing and designing the production. One of these costumes were included in the ROH exhibition that marked Sutherland achievements there.

DESCRIPTION：

Artist and theatre designer Michael Stennett had a long working relationship with legendary soprano Joan Sutherland. The Met Opera Shop specially commissioned him to create this giclée print capturing Sutherland.

Stennett was introduced to Sutherland in 1966 and sent her several costume designs for some of the roles in her repertoire. He went on to design many productions for prominent opera companies in which she appeared, and also created portraits of the singer in some of her most celebrated roles.

“In the 40 years that I performed I have been fortunate to wear what I feel are some of the most beautiful costumes I have ever seen as the result of Michael’s labors. Of course I have my favorites, but the thrill never diminishes: stepping onto the stage, transformed by Michael’s magic into the character one is playing for the night. Michael has helped me to create my various ladies by designing gowns that transport me from the twentieth century to their respective periods.”
