6. Christmas baking

So… have you ever imagined how chaotic Luna would be in the kitchen with Jima and Yam alone, with no Nina keep them in check

So, today also is Finland's independence day so cheers to that and 105 years of freedom from Russia!

“Thank you so much for coming.” Luna opened her and Matteo’s studio apartment door to Jim and Yam. 

“Of course!” Jim said as she put the bag she had brought down and hugged Luna. “I love Christmas baking. Did I ever tell you that my mom and my big sister used to win our neigbouehood’s gingerbread championship three years in a row?”

“It was delicious. I can vouch for that,” Yam said as she hugged Luna as well. “Where’s Nina?”

“Oh, she’s not here,” Luna explained. She had invited Jim and Yam to build a gingerbread house with her as she had finally convinced Matteo that she did not need her mom’s supervision in the kitchen. Matteo still did not let her do it alone. 

“Oh?” Jim looked confused, “I thought she would be. as you invited us here as well.”

“I did ask her as well, but the Peridas had some kind of fancy cocktail event at Gastón’s boss or something,” Luna shook her head laughing, “So she and Gastón are there.”

“Ah, understood,” Yam nodded her head, “I guess that is one of the obligations that come with marriage. Not that we would know.” She took Jim by the shoulder.

“Anyways… the gingerbread,” Jim change the subject. “Where was the kitchen again?”

“Right here, ” Luna pointed to a corner in the living room where the oven and fridge were.

“One good thing about this apartment is that Luna cannot get lost,” Matteo’s voice rang from the couch where he was sitting with a guitar and his notebook. 

“Oh hi, Matteo!” Yam greeted him, “By to way, I got your message about the collaboration. The song was really pretty. Forgot to write you back.”

“So you are on board then? Good. Your people will get a message later about the recording session. And I already spoke with Delfi about the music video.”

“She’ll be producing it?” Yam asked

“Of course, like always.”

“Yam, please, what did we talk about?” Jim took Yam’s arm. “We are on holiday vacation. No work. Sorry, Matteo.”

“No sweat,” Matteo smiled, “You three have fun in the kitchen. I’ll be here… with the fire extinguisher."

“Matteo, please, We will not burn anything,” Luna rolled her eyes. 

“Okay, so we brought all kinds of things, so this will be the best gingerbread house of the century,” Jim and Yam put the bag they had brought on the kitchen table. “Luna, can you show that picture again?”

Luna took out her phone and showed Jim and Yam the picture of the gingerbread house that she had found on Pinterest. 

The house looked like it had three houses stacked on top of each other. Luna absolutely loved how it looked. 

“So the first step is to bake all the cookies,” Luna said reading the recipe on her phone. They had storebought gingerbread dough since Luna have to admit, that she was not daring enough to also try to make it from scratch alone, or even with Jim and Yam’s help.  

“Oh, dangit, I forgot,” Matteo suddenly piped up from the couch. “Luna, I have to run out real quick. I left my capo for the studio, I’ll be back in an hour. DO NOT burn anything while I am gone. My dad will kill me if we get in trouble with the insurance company.”

“Have you burned something before?” Jim asked.

“No, but Matteo does not trust me alone with the kitchen that often,” Luna laughed, “hence why you are here.”

“And you are going to marry that,” Jim questioned jokingly.

“I guess I am,” Luna shrugged her shoulders. “Oh, and thanks for the reminder!” She quickly took her engagement ring off and left it on the living room coffee table. “Matteo would kill me if that ends up in the oven or something. Okay, let's get this show on the road!”

“Jim, hold it a little more up,” Luna said as she bent over backward, literally, to pipe the frosting on the top of their house so they were able to attach the last roof tile to the top. “Okay… we are done?”

Luna jumped off the table and her, Jim and Yam inspected their hand’s work. The kitchen was in complete chaos and they were all covered in frosting

“I did not realize it was gonna be this tall. Are we sure it is not going to fall?” Yam remarked as she picked frosting off her hair.

“Oh,” Luna suddenly started laughing. “We accidentally did this twice the scale. I think I accidentally printed the shapes too big.”

“And you are telling us this now?” Jim joined in the laughter

“You know, I am kind of glad that Nina is not here to see this. This mess is way too iconic, and we’d end up in her next book,” Yam remarked

“If Nina would have been here, this would have not happened,” Jim  noted, “Well, too bad she is too busy being a married woman.”

“WHAT HAPPENED HERE?” The girls turned around and saw stunned Matteo standing in the doorway.

“Oh, hi, Matteo. Do you like our gingerbread house?”

“I thought you were making a gingerbread house,” Matteo said, “Not a real house made of gingerbread.”

“Oh yeah, that,” Luna started speaking, “We just had a tiny small miscalculation… But at least there is enough for everyone.”

“Yeah, you could feed the whole Jam & Roller with this,” Matteo walked over to the gingerbread house eyeing it verily. “You know what, I know better than to question what you are doing. Just clean this all up, and I’ll be at our bedroom.” he pulled out his phone and took a couple of pictures, “I’m gonna send these to Gastón before this whole thing falls over. We’ll see what our environment construction engineer thinks about your building.”

After Mateo had disappeared into their bedroom, Luna, Jim, and Yam finished up their masterpiece and took a couple… a hundred selfies with it. 

“So what now?” Yam asked

“Well, I guess we need to clean up,” Luna answered and licked the frosting off her wrist.

🧸 a headcanon about their childhood:

Jim & Yam were watching tv when they were like 8 and saw two characters kissing and decided to try it, and that’s how they had their first kiss

Camila was playing hide and seek with her siblings and cousins and wanted to prove that she was the best at it, so she climbed to the top of a very tall shelf, but eventually they got called to lunch and she didn’t know how to get down so she stayed there, and everyone forgot to go look for her, because there were like 15 kids so it was easy to forget one, the adults only noticed she was gone when she wasn’t in bed at night, and that’s how she stayed trapped on a shelf for an entire day :)

🧬 a headcanon about their family:

Jim & Yam were raised by single moms who were best friends so they were always together growing up

Camila has four siblings: the twins, who are two years younger than her, a boy who is 3 years younger than her and a girl who is 7 years younger, but has a different mom

😶 a random headcanon:

Yam is fluent in Russian because one day she was bored and decided to start learning, and then she was like “might as well learn the whole thing”

Camila is actually Brazilian because I said so and her name is so fucking Brazilian it’s unbelievable

How do you think the plot of the series would have progressed if Luna and Ambar had stayed in the mansion much longer during the fire, before they come to save them? I mean, they were in the place for quite a long time breathing in the smoke directly, if the firemen got to the place later, it could have turned out much worse. So, back to my question, what do you think would happen next if they had to go to the hospital immediately, because they were already unconscious after inhaling a lot of smoke? I mean it in the sense of Simbar, like how Simon would probably react if he and the boys subsequently came to the mansion and they told them that both Ambar and Luna were in the hospital, etc. I don't know if you didn't already answer a similar question, but after what I this came to mind, I just had to ask my favorite Simbar creator 😅❤️

Anyway, I have to say that I love the new chapter of Roads! Although I cried and I read it for about two hours, because after reading one paragraph I always had to put my phone down and breathe every single sentence I just read, so I love how you described the whole situation, it was really something, incredibly good you described everything and i love it! At the same time, I hate the thought of waiting for the next chapter, but I know that the wait will always be worth it, and especially I can't wait for more updates to your other stories, like Cruel Summer or even a oneshot about Simon. I'm so happy that you liked the chapter so much 😭 I worked hard on it. It makes me feel so good that the effort payed off. I mean, of course at the end of the day we writers write for ourselves, because we enjoy it, but it really warms our heart when our readers tell us they loved it too 🥹 So thank you so much for that, and thank you for having so much patience with me hahah I know the waits are very long.

Now, as to your question. I... actually wrote something along those lines already SDLKJFS. SPOILERS, I GUESS. But, um, that's in the universe of one of my works, not in the universe of the actual series, so, I'll answer according to the canon material.

So, I did some research about this, and it is to my understanding that most victims of smoke inhalation would be treated to on site immediately instead of taken to the hospital, either because there was a paramedic with the firefighters or the firefighters called emergency medical services. Now, it sounds way more dramatic if they're taken to the hospital, and I guess they would be if their symptoms were bad enough, so, for drama's sake, let's forget about reality for a second, shall we? 😂

So, I guess the guys would go to the hospital immediately after being informed of what happened. If the girls are conscious and well enough to have visits, they could talk. Since they're rich they might each have their own private room, or they might share because they're legally family, I don't know. Like I said, it depends on how bad their symptoms are. They could just be in observation and have no rooms at all.

I imagine Matteo would make a quip to Luna about how "I know I did this to you once (end up in a hospital bed) but I wasn't expecting you to get even with me." 😂

Simón would be very worried and in Care-taker Mode, and in his case, unlike Matteo, he would probably have to deal more with the emotional damage rather than the psychical one. You know, try to reassure Ámbar that Sharon will be fine (she was taken to the hospital too but is in way worse condition), and support her through her guilt, because she'd probably feel bad for 1- The fact that her godmother burned the mansion, she can't believe she would do that, and 2- What if her godmother dies and the last thing Ámbar did was betray her by telling everyone her plans?

Suffice to say, Ámbar is crying, and that doesn't help her poor lungs that are recovering after being deprived of oxygen, so Simón would try to calm her down, and just, hug her, you know? She needs it. She needs to be held right now.

I imagine the girls would be free to go home after a few hours (their symptoms stabilized so they have no reason to keep them, but they're advised to come back for a check up if any other symptom shows up in the following days), which would bring up the problem of-- Where can they go to? Sure, it's not like the whole mansion burned down, far from it, it was a couple of rooms at most, but that still means damage to the house foundations, and that needs to be checked and secured before they're allowed to go near the area. Not to mention the smoke needs to clear out. Could they use the opposite wing of the mansion? Is it far enough from the damage? Would it be safe enough? Maybe. Tbh I'm not sure. But I do think it'd take at least a day before they're permitted to stay there. And this affects everyone.

I imagine Matteo would be like "You're all coming to my house", but 1- While his dad is rich and the house is big, they can't fit all those people, and 2- Even if they could, Matteo's dad wouldn't permit it, so, I think Simón and Pedro would go to Matteo's house with him (much to Matteo's annoyance because he wanted to help Luna and her family but his dad only allowed the guys to stay) while Mónica, Miguel, and Luna would be received at Nina's house. (Alfredo goes to one of his friend's house. Maybe his girlfriend/not girlfriend?👀 I don't remember that storyline, but you go, Alfredo, take the chance to flirt.)

I imagine Rey and Maggie have their own apartments so they would be fine (Or they would be held in jail, I don't know, I honestly don't care sdfjn)

Where does Ámbar go though? skjdfn. I guess Matteo's dad could be convinced to let her stay as well. After all, he knows Ámbar from when she used to date his son, and he probably approved of the relationship because of her high status, so he might have no issue with her staying. Hell, maybe he would even want Matteo to get back together with her 😂 But it becomes clear very soon that she's dating that other guy Simón now, and plus, Luna is the new heir of the Benson fortune, so he approves of Luna now (status-seeking money-leech).

((Was it ever mentioned what Matteo's dad thought of Lutteo?😂 I don't remember and I don't care. If my estimations are contradicted by canon, sue me, I'm not re-watching Matteo's scenes))

I would love it if this forced Simón and Ámbar to share a room 😂 But I'm sure that wouldn't be the case. The guys would offer to share one so that Ámbar could be comfortable on her own.

(Although, Simón could sneak into her room after everyone goes to sleep...👀 It was a very tough day for her and maybe Ámbar would appreciate not having to sleep alone. Just a thought.)

After that, the mansion is deemed safe enough to be inhabited again (as long as they stay clear of the damage zone, which they'll have to start working on repairs for, obviously) and everything goes back to pretty much normal.

I just absolutely love the idea that even when they're adults and Yam is a professional designer, Jim still models her clothes and puts on pretend runway sessions in their living room when Yam makes a new design maybe even inviting everyone else over to join in and eventually the kids join in too just strutting in the cutest little half-finished designs, that was my favourite thing I thought of when writing the fic
