HUNTING RELEASES NEW ALBUM

Vancouver trio Hunting has released their sophomore album, Whatever You Need.

Initially a folk-driven solo project, Bradley Ferguson is joined now by Dustin Bentall and Jessica Yliruusi, the result a sweetly layered and brooding collection of new wave. Each song has its own pace and story – due in part to Ferguson and Bentall splitting lead vocal/writing duties – but the album is tied together in Yliruusi’s gorgeous harmonies; unhinged guitars; bright synths and a bitter narrative.

Tension is built in their terse lyricism (e.g. “Burn down with me” on the fuzzy “Spider Tree”), only to be cut down by the beautiful orchestral percussion of LP closer “Not Been Sleeping.” Whatever You Need is catchy and full of sounds that embrace, detach, like 3 am conversations grazing the static.
