The Dark Tower (2017)
Tumblr media
While I didn't enjoy this film, that doesn't mean you won't. No matter what I say, the people involved in this project did it: they actually made a movie. That's something to be applauded. With that established...
Stephen King began The Dark Tower series in 1982 and concluded in 2012. It incorporates elements of fantasy, horror, western and fantasy. Some consider it his magnum opus. Even if you haven't read a single page, you'll recognize this film adaptation has simplified it to death. It's Unimaginative but promising, complex to the point of being confusing but so simple you can foresee every development coming from universes away. In the end, you’ll wonder if maybe you weren’t paying attention or if you missed something but there’s just nothing here.
11-year-old Jake Chambers (Tom Taylor) dreams of a strange world, of a Man in Black, of a gunman who seeks revenge against him and of a tower under attack. The man, a sorcerer named Walter Padick (Matthew McConaughey) is real and seeks to use Jake’s psychic gift to destroy all realities. Only Roland Deschain (Idris Elba), the last Gunslinger, stands in his way.
A lonely boy is thrust into a big adventure and learns the world's fate rests in his hands while sinister forces seek him out. His youth and wide-eyed optimism are exactly what the now-jaded hero needs to put him back on the path of righteousness. When you take a step back, the plot is familiar, so how can so much of The Dark Tower be indecipherable?
Most of the time, when a film’s length is brought up in a review it’s because the movie is too long. This movie is too short. Way too short. We’re never allowed to dig into the world, characters or mythology. Walter seeks to use the powers of psychic children to launch beams of light that will topple the titular Dark Tower, destroy the barrier which surrounds all worlds and allow legions of demons in. Why? So he can rule. But why? We see what abilities he possesses. With them, he's able to do nearly anything his heart desires. He can mind-control people, make objects levitate, has access to stargates and can communicate telepathically. How would destroying everything improve his situation? You don’t understand his motivations and watching McConaughey, you wonder if he doesn’t realize how flat and uninteresting this character is. This might explain why he gives the peculiar performance that he does. I wouldn’t call it bad but you almost expect him to turn towards the screen and say “Ain’t I a stinker?” after every line.
Similarly, there’s little to Idris Elba’s Roland Deschain. At least you understand his motivation, which is a step up from Walter but he doesn’t spend enough time with Jake for you to feel a bond of friendship between them. When someone tells Roland he’s just “using the boy to get revenge” it should be a tower-toppling reveal but you won’t care. Little about this story will surprise or move you.
This movie feels as though it’s hitting you with big inflatable boxing gloves, the kind that have no impact on you but are so big they hinder its movement. The action scenes are either too dark, too frenetic, feature opponents who aren’t menacing, or are paced in a way that makes you go “Oh! Is it over? I didn’t realize it had started”. So much of this movie feels like it’s building up to something that never comes. Well, unless you’re waiting for references to Stephen King’s other works, which are plentiful and in-your-face. The first scene features a reference to The Shining and it isn’t the only one. It’s a way to keep you entertained, I guess.
Utterly forgettable, bland and generic, I can’t imagine any fans of the book series being satisfied with The Dark Tower. Newcomers are likely to be confused or unimpressed. Will they be turned away from the novels? Probably initially but in the long run, they’re unlikely to remember they even watched the film so King's books are safe. The ending hints at a sequel but that's not happening, not in a million years. (June 5, 2020)

"I think it's Jeff Pinkner who described the first several episodes of season 2 as the Gun Arc. Because really, the gun played out until Olivia was whole again. Her actions with the gun in all of those episodes symbolized where she was on her journey. And it culminates in her being able to use it to kill someone who looks exactly like her best friend." Now here's something that I think will stick, I have a gut feeling about this.
Here's a huge ass list yet again of everything (as in all of the numerous different kinds of media) that I can see sharing the same universe as Rockstar Games' Red Dead Redemption Duology, that you can both read and see below for yourself with the theme connecting them is the focus on unconventional type of protagonists and ensembles fighting the odds and high stakes:

• The Quentin Tarantino Universe (Django Unchained, The Hateful Eight, Inglourious Basterds, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, Reservoir Dogs, True Romance, Pulp Fiction, Natural Born Killers, Kill Bill 1 & 2, From Dusk Till Dawn and Curdled)
• Park Chan-Wook's Oldboy
• Kim Jee-Won's I Saw The Devil
• Gore Verbinski's Pirates Of The Caribbean Trilogy
• Julius Avery's Overlord (2018)

Serie live action de “Scooby-Doo” podría llegar a Netflix
Tumblr media
Read the full article

Nick Jonas is proud of Priyanka Chopra as she gets nominated for Critics Choice Super Awards for Citadel
Back in May 2023, Prime Video renewed the series for a second season with Joe Russo set to direct every episode and executive producer David Weil returning as showrunner.
The nominations for the 4th annual Critics Choice Super Awards 2024 have been revealed, showcasing the cream of the crop in action, superhero, horror, and sci-fi or fantasy films and TV shows from the past year. Among the nominees, one name shines particularly bright is Indian actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas. Her recognition comes in the form of a nomination in the Best Actress In An Action Series category, courtesy of her role in the action-packed series, Citadel. Adding to the buzz surrounding Chopra's nomination is the heartfelt support from her husband, singer Nick Jonas.
Tumblr media
Taking to his Instagram story, Jonas shared a screenshot of the nomination list featuring Priyanka's name prominently displayed. Alongside the image, he penned an encouraging message, “Let's go Priyanka. #proud,” followed by a fiery emoticon.

The actress is nominated alongside Angela Bassett for 9-1-1, Luciane Buchanan for The Night Agent, Queen Latifah for The Equaliser, Zoe Saldana for Special Ops Lioness, and Maria Sten for The Reacher. The winners will be announced on April 5.
Back in May 2023, Prime Video renewed the series for a second season with Joe Russo set to direct every episode and executive producer David Weil returning as showrunner. The spy thriller—starring Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and featuring Lesley Manville and Stanley Tucci—premiered on May 26 of last year.
The official synopsis of Citadel season 1 reads, "Eight years ago, Citadel fell. The independent global spy agency—tasked to uphold the safety and security of all people—was destroyed by operatives of Manticore, a powerful syndicate manipulating the world from the shadows. With Citadel’s fall, elite agents Mason Kane (Richard Madden) and Nadia Sinh (Priyanka Chopra Jonas) had their memories wiped as they narrowly escaped with their lives. They’ve remained hidden ever since, building new lives under new identities, unaware of their pasts. Until one night, when Mason is tracked down by his former Citadel colleague, Bernard Orlick (Stanley Tucci), who desperately needs his help to prevent Manticore from establishing a new world order. Mason seeks out his former partner, Nadia, and the two spies embark on a mission that takes them around the world in an effort to stop Manticore, all while contending with a relationship built on secrets, lies, and a dangerous-yet-undying love."
From Amazon Studios and the Russo Brothers’ AGBO, Citadel is executive produced by Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Mike Larocca, Angela Russo-Otstot, and Scott Nemes for AGBO, with David Weil serving as showrunner and executive producer. Josh Appelbaum, André Nemec, Jeff Pinkner, and Scott Rosenberg serve as executive producers for Midnight Radio. Newton Thomas Sigel and Patrick Moran also serve as executive producers.

Venom 2018
Venom is a 2018 American superhero film featuring the Marvel Comics character of the same name, produced by Columbia Pictures in association with Marvel Entertainment,[5] Tencent Pictures, Arad Productions, Matt Tolmach Productions and Pascal Pictures and distributed by Sony Pictures. . The first film in Sony's Spider-Man Universe (SSU), it was directed by Ruben Fleischer from a screenplay by Jeff Pinkner, Scott Rosenberg and Kelly Marcel. It stars Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Scott Hayes and Reid Scott as well as Eddie Brock and Tom Hardy as Venom. In the film, struggling journalist Eddie gains superpowers after becoming host to an alien symbiote, Venom, whose species plans to invade Earth.
After Venom's appearance in Spider-Man 3 (2007), Sony attempted to produce a spin-off film based on the character but it could not go ahead due to problems with Sony's ongoing Spider-Man franchise. In March 2016, work began on a new version that would begin a new shared universe featuring non-Spider-Man Marvel characters that the studio had the film rights to. Sony also intended for Venom to share the world of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), but ultimately moved the film away from Spider-Man. In March 2017, Rosenberg and Pinkner were set to write, with Fleischer and Hardy added in May. Filming took place from October 2017 to January 2018 in Atlanta, New York City, and San Francisco. The film was initially inspired by the comic book miniseries Venom: Lethal Protector (1993) and the story arc "Planet of the Symbiotes" (1995). Ludwig GĂśransson was hired to compose the film's score, marking his second Marvel film after Black Panther (2018).
Venom premiered at the Regency Village Theater on October 1, 2018, and was released in theaters in the United States on October 5. Despite being received negatively by critics, the film became the seventh-highest-grossing film of 2018 worldwide with over $856 million and set several box office records for an October release. A sequel, Venom: Let There Be Carnage, was released on October 1, 2021, and the third Venom film is scheduled for release on November 8, 2024.

The 5th Wave (2016)
Tumblr media
The 5th Wave shows such promise at first you’ll wonder if my negative review is a mistake. Just wait. With time, this film doesn’t just indulge in a few of the post-apocalyptic YA Novel genre; it checks off every single one of them. Based on this film’s conclusion, I bet you could predict exactly what happens in the next two movies… had the series been deemed worthy of continuing.
It all started when a spaceship appeared in Earth’s orbit. First, a massive global blackout crippled our defenses. Next, our cities were reduced to rubble by earthquakes and tidal waves. A virus came in and whipped out most of the survivors. Now the aliens are among us, picking off the stragglers one by one. When Cassie (Chloë Grace Moretz) becomes separated from her family, she begins a long journey on her own. Setting her sights on a military base where her brother (Zackary Arthur) is stationed, a question remains: When will the 5th Wave hit, and will we survive?
For the first 30 or so minutes, The 5th Wave is essentially a junior version of The Road, complete with the morally murky decisions one must make in a post-apocalyptic situation. You can see the innocence of childhood erode as Cassie sees everyone around her die and she scratches together the means to keep going. As for her brother and many of the other now-orphaned children, they have been drafted into the U.S. government’s army, Ender’s Game-style. You may oppose the concept of child soldiers but there won’t be any place for them to live if desperate measures are not taken. Damn. There are moral dilemmas, you don’t know who to trust, the aliens’ motivations are kept nice and vague… there’s a lot to like!
All hope vanishes the moment we spot Evan (Alex Roe) chopping wood. Before, it was a bit tragic to see Cassie’s high school crush Ben (Nick Robinson) still alive but drafted. Now, you realize he’s just going to be part of a love triangle meant to carry teenage audiences through a couple more of these movies. Of all the people who could’ve saved her as she lay dying, it HAD to be the sensitive teenage heartthrob. If you can see past this, wait until the film introduces her future romantic rival, Ringer (Maika Monroe), who has somehow scrounged together enough eyeshadow to last months. Nothing is explicitly said or shown to let us know she will begin falling for Ben and he for her, but you just KNOW. Every other aspect of this plot has been following the clichés like clockwork, so why would it refrain from having a double love triangle down the line?
I had already seen this movie. I gave it the benefit of the doubt twice. All my good faith got me was the same plot points we've seen before, stolen wholesale from Divergent, The Hunter Games, Twilight and so many other films. (On Blu-ray, December 14, 2018)

I did something exactly like this before and it turned out awesome so now I want to do it again or rather give it a new take or a new spin to it.
Here's a fairly solid amount of all the numerous different types of media that I think both fit well in and can share the same universe as one of the top five greatest superhero shows ever made, Christopher McCulloch & Doc Hammer's The Venture Bros., showing the numerous different sides and tones of the same world that you can both read and see below for yourself:
Tumblr media
• Yasuyuki Ueda's Hellsing Ultimate
• Takahiro Omori's Baccano!, Durarara!! and Durarara!! x2
• Sunao Katabuchi's Black Lagoon
• Masayuki Kojima's Monster
• Hiroshi Nishikiori, Tatsuyuki Nagai & Nobuharu Kamanaka's A Certain Magical Index, Railgun and Accelerator
• Tetsuro Araki's Death Note and Attack On Titan
