day court!reader attends a joint meeting of the night and day courts
They haven't arrived yet. Which means you are safe, for now. You won't be safe the second the shadowsinger appears. Who knows, maybe he's already said something to his high lord. Probably. Most likely.
You swirl your spoon around in the tea cup once more. With your face resting in your hands you look around the room again. Helion, Jaythan and a few other advisors are going over things.
This meeting would be pointless, you think. With Jaythan in the room he was sure to shoot down any non biased idea and voice pr-day court suggestions. Ever since the strain he's been less diplomatic and more hardheaded.
The door opens and you watch casually as the inner circle walks in. First the high lord and his wife, the high lady, then the two sisters, the two illyirans and lastly the blonde and the woman you met at the club that night.
Your interests piques. You sit up straight in your seat. The hand swirling the tea around stopping it's motions.
Oh you might actually be screwed here.
As it happens, the shadowsinger sits across from you as everyone takes their seats. You lean back into your seat and try your best not to look at him.
The meeting starts painfully flow. With both sides exchanging pleasantries. Blah blah blah, day court is lovely, blah blah blah the night court would love to host a meeting.
It all starts to sound the same to you. You start to zone out, thinking of what things you could be getting up to if you weren't in this meeting. It's a formality really. There's no need for an ambassador for stability, that should be Helion's role as high lord.
At some point in the middle of the meeting you manage to lock eyes with the shadowsinger. It's by pure accident. You happen to forget that you shouldn't look at him.
You look over his leathers and the tops of his wings. And then suddenly you look at his face and you find him already looking at you. It makes you look away quickly.
And thankfully, you don't have to think about what could happen next. Because a knock on the door sounds out. A messenger pops his head in and looks around for a while before landing on you.
"You have a ongoing situation." he says.
Helion chuckles, "She's in the middle of an important-"
"I'm sorry high lord, but I wouldn't interrupt if it weren't dire." the messenger says.
"Is it really?" Helion asks.
"It's fine. " you say, ushering the messenger in.
He comes in quickly and leans over to tell you in short detail what the situation is. A disgruntled former member of the day court who wishes to air his grievances with you.
"I'll be back." you say, getting up from your seat.
"Trouble?" a voice asks.
You look right at him. Shadowsinger. Azriel. He was no doubt fanning whatever flames you had started when you visited the night court uninvited. No way you were gonna let that out now.
You smile, "Always."

The giggle response is a REAL THING. Apes are known to laugh and bare their teeth when they feel threatened. I should know as Homo Sapiens are classified as apes, and Jay Bauman is a hairy little ape man. Just look at the beard and the shape of his newly shorn head. He is obviously some kind of man/capuchin monkey hybrid that escaped a mad scientist’s lab as a young lad. I bet he looks like a hobbit under his socks. I bet he even has a tail hidden in his pants leg. Mike has obviously been keeping him in Red Letter Media headquarters as some form of sick entertainment for over 30 years, making him do his little Monkey Dances to Bloodhound Gang songs and torturing him with Star Traks knowledge. Every time Jaythan laughs, it’s a cry for help, and SOMEBODY should DO SOMETHING about it!!! If Saintly Richard Evans doesn’t come back to rescue Poor Monkey Boy Bauman from Mike’s wrath, I fear for Jay’s safety. We must urge Rich to come back! Or else Jay may feel so threatened without him around that he mauls his captor and is arrested wrongfully for Second Degree Murder, as self defense claims hold no water in court for capuchin man hybrids. I would take action, however, I am currently stuck in a locked closet trying not to shit myself after a Taco Bell binge eating session. It has been hours, and I don’t know when Mike will let me out.
— Krebs Gorlon
guys on reddit dot com: i think mike stoklasa is some sort of dark wizard who keeps beautiful and innocent jay bauman trapped in his tower- i mean youtube channel for his own nefarious purposes. i think this because sometimes mike is mean and while he has based his entire online persona on being a cynical old bitch i for some reason think that jay doesn't like this. my evidence is that whenever mike is mean to him he giggles cutely which is obviously a fear response. has anyone else noticed this?

day court!reader disagrees with Helion about ongoing tensions with the night court
You know you're stomping but you can't help it. You can't help how your riding boots just hit the marble floors so harshly and with an exact rhythm to them. Almost sounding like a stead horse yourself.
You roll your shoulders back as you see the door to the office open. It's not like you're not one to voice your opinions. Maybe if you were anyone else it wouldn't go this way. But because you are related to him, you have the confidence to do certain things.
The thing you're planning on doing today being telling him that he's wrong. High risk, low reward.
You get up to the door and find him there. Helion. Your uncle. He's standing over his desk, quill in hand as he scribbles out something. Honestly he doesn't seem to busy. If the door is open he wanted to be interrupted.
"I heard you clobbering here. Something wrong?" he asks.
You sigh, "You're wrong."
He picks his head up at that. He's not used to being told that. Which is weird because you feel like you've been the only one to tell him this in his life, and it's happen on multiple occasions. Granted you were younger then.
"Do tell, niece."
You walk into the room and shut the door behind you. It was probably bad that the door was open and you openly talked to him that way. But you weren't too concerned about it at the moment.
Besides it's not like anyone here will go a rat on you. All the people within the palace know exactly who you are, so they know what you mean to Helion. In fact some of them helped to raise you.
"Relations with the night court and the day court aren't strained." you cut to the point.
Helion gives you a daring look.
"Would you not call the recent attacks on members of this court, insinuated by night court visitors, a bad reaction?" he asks.
You shake your head, "No I know that's bad. But that doesn't reflect on everyone from the night court. And neither does the group of bandits from the day court that are standing trial for their retribution."
"Two wrongs don't make a right." Helion answers.
"And being right isn't always fair. What about those who are going to suffer for the mistakes of others?" you ask him.
Helion lets out a huff. He drops his quill and rounds his desk to you. The warmth from his hands on your shoulders makes you loosen up a bit.
"I know this is personal for you." he says.
"Even if it weren't, I would still tell you this is wrong." you snip.
Helion laughs, "What am I wrong about specifically?"
You scoff, "You're going to limit the amount of night court migrants."
"Who told you that, little star?"
"Jaythan. He said it was all but signed."
"He's a little shit, who wants to protect his people, but he's not the high lord of this court. I am. And I am not signing off on any ban on night court fae." Helion explains.
You let out a breath of relief. "You're not."
"No. And I'm appalled that you'd even think I would."
"I wouldn't blame you for making a harsh move to keep your people safe." you clarify your previous frustrations.
Helion nods his head.
"Rest easy. I heard Jaythan out, but I don't plan on instituting his proposal."
"That's good to hear. Thank you for explaining to me."
"Yes, anytime. We're family. But now I have to go and knock some sense into Jaythan. If you'll excuse me." Helion says.
Then he's moving past you, and out of his office. You watch as he enters the hall. He doesn't look mad, he never does really. He handles situations with such diplomacy and elegance.
In your hundreds of years of living you've never seen him mad. You hope you never have to.

A Queens courtroom exploded into applause Thursday when a judge vacated the murder conviction of a man who spent a quarter-century behind bars for a brutal stabbing he insisted he did not commit. Ernest “Jaythan” Kendrick was granted his freedom by Judge Joseph Zayas Thursday at an emotional hearing in Queens Supreme Court during which prosecutors and defense attorneys came together to ask the judge to vacate Kendrick’s conviction. “I’m very, very happy today because I never thought this would happen although I hoped and wished that it would,” Kendrick said at the hearing. “Nobody really understands what it is to be in prison when you are innocent and you know you’re innocent and you’re behind that wall.” Kendrick was convicted of stabbing 70-year-old Josephine Sanchez twice in the back on Nov. 30, 1994 outside the Ravenswood Houses in Long Island City, Queens. Witnesses heard Sanchez scream, and a 10-year-old boy saw the murder from his third-floor window more than 100 feet away. Kendrick was arrested because he matched the vague description the boy gave of a suspect — a Black man in his thirties wearing a white jacket. But when Kendrick was put in a lineup, the boy initially selected another man as the suspect. Detectives then had him try again and he chose Kendrick, a reinvestigation of the case revealed. New testing also revealed that male DNA found under the victim’s fingernails did not match Kendrick’s DNA. There was no physical evidence tying Kendrick to the killing, and he was largely convicted on the testimony of the boy as well as a man who said he saw Kendrick fleeing the scene carrying a woman’s purse, prosecutors said. Four new witnesses interviewed by the DA’s office contradicted the second witness’s testimony, however, prosecutors said. “The family is elated ... Jaythan lost a lot of his family.” Hughes said, adding that Kendrick’s mother and sister have both died since he was imprisoned. “We don’t have that many of the family left.” Prosecutors admitted Thursday that if the new evidence had existed at the 1995 trial, jurors may have reached a very different verdict in Kendrick’s case. The Adventurer - Part 1
Once, there was an Adventurer. She strode into a new town (new to her that is), leading her horse by the reigns. She stopped at the local inn for a drink and some food, and upon emerging, saw a commotion in the street. Three bandits were accosting a man and his family outside their home.
“You don’t belong here” said the first bandit.
“Yeah, leave this town” said the second.
“And leave your things” added the third.
“No!” cried the man, “this is my home! It has been for many years. I belong here as much as you, maybe more so.”
“Leave now,” said the first bandit, holding a torch menacingly close to the thatch roof of the man’s home.
“Yes,” advised the second “you wouldn’t want anything bad to happen to your family.”
“It would all be your fault,” the third added.
“It’s not my fault. You monsters are threatening me. You are the ones to blame!”
The Adventurer, witnessing all this, began to draw her short sword from its plain scabbard. “Leave him alone!” she shouted.
“Whoa,” said the nearest villager, “best stay out of this.”
“But they’re threatening him!” cried the Adventurer, “they’re going to burn down his home!”
“Well maybe,” said another villager, “but maybe he did something to deserve it.”
“Yeah,” added a third, “I mean, he called them monsters! Can’t have that. It’s just rude.”
“Besides,” said the first villager, “protecting them would be the town guard’s job.”
“Fine,” sighed the villager, clearly in a hurry, “where’s the town guard?”
“Oh Henrich is over by the river.” answered the second villager.
“Well get him!” cried the Adventurer.
“Can’t” the villager replied, “he’s busy”
“Yeah, he’s getting snakes out of the magistrate’s yard’ added the third.
“What!?” The Adventurer was astonished by the townsfolk, but saw this was a non-option. “I know this town is small, but surely you must have a second guard?”
“Of course, Jaythan, he’s right there,” replied the villager, pointing.
“That’s the guard?! He’s one of the bandits!” If the Adventurer was astonished before, she had no words for what she was now.
“Ooof” winced the second villager, “can’t call ‘em that.”
“What?”
“ ‘Bandits’, kind of a mean word, don’t ya think? They prefer to be called ‘donation solicitors’ “
“Besides,” added the third, “he’s off-duty. What he does in his off time is none of our business”
The Adventurer was nearly frothing at the mouth. “It is when your guard is one of the bandits!” Seeing one of the villagers wince, she cried out “I don’t care what he wants to be called! He’s shaking down people and driving them out of town”
The Adventurer stopped for a moment, and sniffed the air. Smoke. Turning sharply she saw the roof rapidly being engulfed in spreading flames. Two of the bandits were exiting the house holding sacks of stolen goods.
“Look at what they did!” she cried, flailing her arms towards the burning house.
“Well that house is burning awfully quick. Probably wasn’t built right. Used the wrong materials or something,” said the first villager.
“Would’ve burned down regardless” said the second, nodding with authority.
“Besides,” added the third “It’s over. They’re not hurting anyone right now. No point in doing anything”.
The three bandits walked away, each carrying a sack. The man and his family wept quietly in front of their smoking sacked house. Just then, a guard appeared around the corner in front of the bandits.
“Oh, hello Jaythan. Pabor. Kent”
“Hi Henrich” they all replied.
