A/N: Short one because I haven't released something for Jay in way too long! This has been sitting in my WIP drafts for the longest time so I finally got it written! An anon requested something similar for Will but since I had a half-written fic, I finished this and posting this instead! As always thanks to bestie @seatsbythepit for being my beta queen~!
JAY HALSTEAD MASTERLIST
You hadnât thought this through.
It sounded like an innocent enough date when Jay had asked if you wanted to go watch the game. You hadn't been dating for long, and every day felt a little unreal in a âI canât believe Jay Halstead wants to go out with meâ kind of way, and you appreciated every opportunity you got to spend with Jay especially since you never knew if he would have to go undercover or spend nights at the district trying to clear a case.
But now that the game was approaching, you were in a bit of a panic.
You enjoyed watching a game, but you didnât always know what you were watching or doing, and you werenât sure you were ready to let Jay see that side of you.
âY/N, everything okay?â Kellyâs voice interrupted your internalized panic and you glanced up.
âAh, I should have thought of you!â You proclaimed, earning yourself an eyebrow raise from the squad lieutenant. âI need your help.â
Kelly raised an eyebrow but chuckled before nodding toward his office.
You thanked all the stars that it was a quieter shift. After all, an entirely quiet shift didnât exist at Firehouse 51. But at least thatâs the way you liked it.
Kelly gave you a crash course, but not without reminding you that you owed him one. You spent the rest of the downtime studying it so that at least youâd have something smart to say, even though there were a few times you wondered what the hell you were doing.
Hard work indeed paid off.
You walked out of the game, feeling a little embarrassed as Jayâs friends gushed over you.
âJay, you got a good one. My girlfriend doesnât even want to come to games with me.â One of his buddies quipped.
Jay laughed, putting an arm around you and grinning. âHey, should I be worried? What if you guys just call her for the games instead?â
The laughter rumbled through the group as they all nodded, teasing Jay that theyâd rather call you instead of him in the future.
You really did owe Kelly one.
As his friends dispersed, calling that Jay had better bring you out for the next game, Jayâs phone rang.
You nodded at him, telling him heâd better take it, assuring him that you and Will wouldnât leave him behind.
Jay took the call from Voight, glancing toward where you and Will were talking as he nodded. âYeah, I got it. Iâll be right in.â
Jay could feel the dread in his gut, that felt just a little too much like guilt that he had to blow off again tonight even though heâd promised a nice after-game dinner and maybe some drinks and cuddling.
âThis is why you donât promise anything, Jay.â He mumbled to himself, before he walked back toward the both of you.
âHey, Y/N, IâŠâ
You glanced at the look on Jayâs face and just smiled. âGotcha.â
âSorry.â Jay couldnât even say anything more because everything else in his head sounded like an excuse.
âIâm not saying Iâm not disappointed, because I kinda am. But I get it. And if these were bells going off for the ambulance, Iâd do the same thing youâre doing now. So, go.â You paused. âBut you owe me a mind-blowing date.â
Jay laughed and nodded. âThat, I definitely do.â
You shot him a huge smile and headed off toward Jayâs truck to wait because you knew heâd at least take you home before heading back down to wherever he was supposed to go.
Will watched the exchange with a mix of amusement and awe before he glanced at his younger brother.
âJay?â Will called, before Jay and him headed off in different directions.
Jay glanced up at Will and Will smiled. âYou better marry that girl.â

my masterlist
Jay had been itching to get home since noon, when you had sent him some very enticing pictures in lingerie, gushing about how much you missed him.
âPlease come homeâ
âI miss you so muchâ
âI need your hands on my body so badlyâ
âIâm touching myself, imagining your fingers stretching me out instead of my ownâ
He was barely keeping his composure, coughing and rearranging his pants around his crotch every couple of minutes.
Time seemed to stand still, almost going backwards as he desperately waited for the moment he was allowed to go home, to ravage you and take out his pent-up frustrations on your body.
And then, the clock finally struck 5 o'clock, and Jay couldn't get out of the precinct faster. As soon as he got into his car, he was speeding through the city, his only concern was getting home and getting you into his bed.
Meanwhile, you were frustrated that Jay hadn't indulged you in your little game, your cunt aching with need and anticipation. So you did the only thing that came to your mind: you started taking care of the problem.
Settling comfortably on your shared queen-sized bed, your hand slowly traveled all the way down your body until in reached your core, your juices running down your thighs and soaking into the sheets. You slowly started rubbing circles on your swollen clit, shivers immediately ripping through your body.
"Mhm" you slowly moaned, biting your lip as you closed your eyes and continued rubbing circles on your clit, your fingers gradually moving downwards towards your slick opening.
"Oh Jay" you moaned out as you sunk 2 fingers into your hole, imagining Jay's rough and long fingers instead of your slim ones.
Jay had arrived home in that meantime, listening to you playing with yourself from outside the door. His cock grew harder and harder with each moan and breath you let out, making his jeans incredibly uncomfortable on his body.
When he'd had enough, he barged into the room, startling you as you let out a shriek. You quickly took in the sight of your boyfriend, eyes immediately landing on his huge boner in his pants. Instead of greeting him or even saying anything, you inserted your fingers back in your dripping hole, your other signaling for Jay to come to you.
"I need you so bad, baby" you moaned out, biting your lip as your eyebrows scrunched up in pleasure, your thumb swiping over your clit every time you would pump your fingers in and out of your cunt.
"Dirty fucking girl. Texting me at work, getting me hard the entire day and now playing with herself like a whore" Jay panted as he quickly took off all of his clothes, hissing once his cock was finally freed and the cool air of the room washed over it.
You hungrily eyed his leaking rock hard cock as you sped up your movements, your free hand now pinching your nipples hard as you felt your orgasm slowly starting to approach.
"Fuck me, Jay. Please fuck me, baby, I can't take it anymore. Need your big cock so badly-" you were a moaning mess and your words suddenly died in your throat when Jay forcefully removed your fingers from your pussy and instead thrusted his cock all the way to the hilt in one swift movement.
"You're so fucking wet, so ready and willing to be a cock-drunk whore" Jay said, not moving an inch. He reached his hand down to your clit and started massaging it as he stood still, hungrily watching you squirm and try to fuck yourself on his cock.
"Please, oh God, fuck, please just fuck me" your walls squeezed around his cock at the sentence, making Jay hiss and close his eyes.
He had been so pent up the entire day, his boner only growing worse at the messages you had sent him. Now that he had you squirming in desperation underneath him, he had never felt as powerful before.
Jay slowly started thrusting in and out, building a rhythm of pounding harshly into your poor pussy, making you see stars. His pace was unforgiving, his heavy balls slapping against your pussy each time he thrusted in and out of you, hissing and groaning at the feeling of your walls tightly sucking him in every single time.
âMy dirty fucking girl. So needy and desperate for my cock, arenât you? Just desperate to get fucked by my fat cockâ Jay teased, his hands trailing upwards until they reached your hardened nipples, pinching at them and making you whine out.
âIâm your good girl, daddyâ you moaned out, the feeling of his cock driving in and out of your pussy at a rapid pace making your brain mushy.
Jay chuckled tauntingly, grabbing a hold of your hips and speeding up even more.
âOh my God, you feel so fucking goodâ you squealed, your hands wrapping around the roots of your hair as your cunt just took the extreme pounding it was getting.
Jay was as much of a mess as you were. His balls were tingling, anticipation to finally let go of all the steam thatâs been building up since the morning.
He could feel your walls starting to flutter around him, signaling how close you were to your orgasm. He knew you couldnât think or speak because of how fucked out you were.
His hand traveled down until it landed on your clit, immediately pressing down and rubbing rapid circles on it.
âIâm, oh my God, Iâm gonna cum Jay, Iâm gonna cumâ you moaned out, your eyes now wide as you settled back on your elbows, the intensity of the imminent orgasm making your toes curl.
And just like that, as Jay continued to brutally drive his cock inside of your abused cunt, the coil inside of you snapped and your orgasm flowed through your body, your limbs going limp and your legs shaking around his waist.
The orgasm that ripped through your body was so intense, making your eyes roll in the back of your head and no sounds whatsoever to come out of your mouth. Your lips were agape as your face was scrunched up, Jayâs thrusts prolonging the intense orgasm even more.
âShitâ Jay groaned out as his own orgasm hit him like a ton of bricks, burying himself as deep as he can as he shot ropes of cum directly against your cervix.
The feeling of his warm cum inside of your walls made you moan out and bite your lip, your walls tensing around his waist as you milked his cock for all he was worth.
You both remained in that position as you both slowly came down from your highs, his softening cock slipping out of your overstimulated cunt and making you moan.
Jay settled down on the bed next to you, trying to catch his breath.
âThat wasâŠâ you started, panting still.
âAmazing, as alwaysâ he finished for you, making you chuckle and nod.
âRemind me to misbehave more oftenâ

Glasses (A Halstead Brothers + Halstead Sister Imagine)
A/N: Thank you so much for reading and for sticking around with my sporadic posting! Please don't forget to vote and comment!Â
I start my second year of my doctoral program next week and have been working 60 hrs/wk these past few weeks to save up for when I have less time during the school year. I don't know when I will post next, but I have an idea that I want to write and I've also been trying to write 300 words/day, which is very helpful in getting writing done.Â
Anyway, sorry for the long author's note! Enjoy!
"You gonna go see my teacher now?" you asked after you and Jay walked into your elementary school one spring evening.
"Yup," Jay answered while he led you over to the small table set up right outside the room. It was stocked with coloring pages, markers, crayons, and a couple of books. "And you're going to sit right here while I talk to her, okay? I'll be right inside."
"And then we get ice cream after?"
"What was our deal?"
You sighed. "If I get a good re- re--" you scrunched up your eyebrows as you tried to remember the grown-up word that Jay had used earlier. "What's that word?"
"Report."
"Oh, yeah! If I get a good report, then I get ice cream."
"That's right."
"Mr. Halstead?" your teacher said as she stepped out of your classroom.
"Hi, Miss H!" You waved. "Please tell Jay I was good because I get ice cream then!"
Jay chuckled. "You'll just have to wait and see, kiddo. Now, be good while I talk to Miss H, okay?"
"Okay!" Then, you started flipping through the coloring pages to try and find one that you wanted to color.
***
"So, tell me the truth, is she a troublemaker?" Jay asked as he sat down across from your teacher. "I know for a fact me and my brother were, so it wouldn't surprise me."
You teacher smiled. "Y/N is anything but that. She does her work as assigned, gets her planner signed at night, and stays on task very well. She struggles with math, but that's understandable. Some take longer to learn math than others. But, she excels at reading. She said that you read with her and do flashcards with her every night."
Jay nodded. "We're working through The Chronicles of Narnia right now. Me, my wife, Hailey, or my brother, Will, will read that to her before she goes to bed, depending on who's with her due to our schedules. Then, the next night, we'll have her try and read to us. She's working on Junie B. Jones."
"Well, it's working. And, she's making more progress in her mad minutes for math than she was a month ago. Do you work on flashcards every day?"
"We try to," Jay answered. "Those we try to do right after school and give her a snack with it. Some would call it bribery, but it works."
"Keep doing what you're doing. It's been working really well." She paused. "There is one thing that has been concerning me about, Y/N." Jay furrowed his eyebrows as he continued to listen. "When we move seats for groups during partner reading and other times during the day, I noticed that she struggles to read what's on the board. Sometimes she'll squint really hard and sometimes she'll walk up to the board to write in her planner at the end of the day. I've moved her to the front row for class, but when we move for groups and she's further away from the board, it seems that it's hard for her to see. Do you have the time and money to get her eyes checked? If not, we have vision testing coming to school in a month, which is free and required for all students," your teacher finished.
"My brother's a doctor, and we'll make sure to see her pediatrician about this. It's getting close to her yearly physical anyway. Thank you for telling me. Is there any other times that you notice this?"
"During library days, she always makes sure to sit in the front so she can she the pictures better. I'm sorry. I wish I had more information to give you."
"No, thank you for telling me this. I know you have a lot of other kids to look out for. Is there anything else I should know? Behavior wise, she's good, right?"
"Very well behaved. The only thing I was concerned about is her vision."
"Great. Thank you again for telling me."
"You're welcome. Is there anything else you needed to discuss regarding Y/N?"
"No," Jay answered. "I'll get out of your hair now then. You've probably got more parents to see."
"I do. Have a good night."
"You, too," Jay replied and then made his way to the door and out into the hallway.
Your head shot up the second you heard the door open. "I was good, right?" you asked.
"You weren't good-"
You dropped your head. No ice cream. "But-"
"You were great, kiddo!" Jay exclaimed.
"Ice cream!" you cheered.
Jay squatted down to your height and looked at the picture you were coloring. "That's really pretty and you're almost done. So, how about instead of going out for ice cream, I call Will and have him pick up ice cream sundae stuff and we can make them at home. That way, you can finish your picture at home."
"Can we watch a movie, too?"
Jay looked at his watch. 5:33. You'd have time to watch a Disney movie before bedtime. "If you start it right when we get home, then yes, you can watch a movie."
"Yay!"
"Now, stay here for a couple more minutes while I go call Will, okay? And, what's my rule?"
"If I have to go somewhere and can't tell you, tell a good adult." Jay had taught it to you as trusted adult, but you couldn't remember that word, so you always said good adult.
"That's right. I'll be right back."
Then, he made his way all the way down the hallway and turned the corner and continued walking until he was sure that you weren't within earshot to call Will.
He picked up on the first ring.
"If you need help disciplining her based on a bad report, that's all you, Jay. You're the disciplinarian and I'm the fun brother."
Jay rolled his eyes. "It's not that. She did great, but her teacher said that she might need glasses. She said she struggles to see the board. Think you could check her out tonight?"
"Jay, she needs to go to an optometrist for that."
"I know, but can't you just do some preliminary stuff? Also, she wants you to come over for ice cream sundaes and a movie, so you'd be there anyway."
"Who says I don't have plans?"
"C'mon, man. I know you."
"Fine, I'll be there in 30 minutes. You need me to pick anything up? Maybe a pizza? Can't just give the kid ice cream for dinner, but you know that."
"If you bring pizza, at least bring a salad with it," Jay bargained.
"Deal. See you in 30. And, I'll put in a call to her pediatrician on the way to your place."
"Perfect. Thanks, man. See you later."
Then, Jay hung up the phone and walked back over to you. "Ready to go?"
"Yes! Ice cream!"
"Ice cream is right. Let's go, kiddo."
Then, you two made your way to his truck and went to the store to buy everything you, Jay, Will, and Hailey would need for ice cream sundaes. And, Jay kept an eye on you to see if you were squinting. But, it was a bit difficult because he was making a mental checklist and checking everything off while you two were in the store. He figured he'd investigate more when you got home.
***
When you got back, you quickly put on your Tangled pajamas and told Jay that was the movie you wanted to watch.
Then, you grabbed your stool from under the sink while Jay was in the living room getting the movie pulled up. Your hand was on the handle to the freezer and you were just about to open it when Jay walked back in.
"And what do you think you're doing, missy?" You turned around to face him and it was like you were a deer in the headlights. "Were you trying to get ice cream before dinner?"
"Maybe..." you answered slowly.
"That's what I thought. Now, how about you get down and start your movie so that you can finish it before bedtime? Will will be here soon and then I'll bring your food to you."
"I get to eat in the living room?" Jay almost never let you eat in the living room! You always had to eat at the table!
"If you eat over your plate, you can eat in the living room. But, if you start being messy, it's right back to the table."
"Okay!" You jumped down from your stool, put it away, and then made your way to the couch in the living room. You grabbed your favorite fuzzy blanket from the back of the couch and then hit play on the remote.
Jay chuckled and reached into the cabinet where he hid the stickers for your sticker chart. Then, he placed one on the line next to the chore that said Clean up when asked - No arguing.
Even though he didn't ask you to put your step stool away, you still did it. And, maybe he was giving you this because he felt guilty about not noticing that you were struggling to see. Either way, you were one step closer to getting a prize.
Five minutes later, Will walked in with the pizza.
"Will!" you exclaimed and jumped up off the couch and ran up to him. "My teacher said I was really good!"
"I heard that! Now let me put this down and then I can give you a big hug. And I even got you your own pizza!"
"You did?"
"Yes, I did, silly!"
"Jay, did you hear that? Will got me my own pizza! That way I don't have to pick the gross onions and black olives off yours."
"I did! Now, let's let Will put down the pizza, hmm?" Jay said and grabbed your hand to gently pull you out of the way.
You moved out of the way, allowing Will to set the pizza boxes on the table. Then, he crouched down and gave you a bone-crushing hug.
"Stop! Too tight!" you laughed, making Will just squeeze you harder while Jay tried his best to contain his laughter at the two of you.
"Alright, you two, Let's eat before the pizza gets cold. Y/N, go wash your--"
Jay was cut off by the door opening and you squealing.
"Hailey!"
You wriggled out of Will's hold and ran up to her. "Guess what?! Guess what?! Guess what?!"
"Guess we know who her favorite is," Will muttered.
"What?" Hailey asked with a giant smile on her face. She was also holding a pink box that you noticed sort of smelled like cookies.
"I did really good at school so I get pizza and ice cream sundaes!"
"I know! Jay told me! So, I thought we could have brownie sundaes!"
She moved toward the table and set down the pink box. Then, she opened the box, revealing fresh, warm brownies from the bakery a block from the district.
You reached for one, but Jay quickly swatted your hand away. "Nuh-uh. Dinner first, missy."
Jay then put your personal pizza on a plate along with a breadstick, baby carrots, and some ranch for you to dip the carrots in. He handed you the plate along with some napkins.
"Go ahead and watch Tangled while you eat, okay? We'll be in there soon."
"Okay!"
The minute Jay heard the movie playing again, he was all business. "So, how are we doing this, Will?"
Jay didn't need to explain to Hailey what he was referring to here because he texted her that you had gotten a good report, but that your teacher also said that you needed glasses after he called Will when you were at school.
"I called her pediatrician and she can see her on Friday. She said that if she does need glasses, the optometrist should be able to get her on Monday."
"Perfect, great. Me and Hailey both work Monday, so you can take her, right?"
"I can take her," Will confirmed.
"Okay, good."
"So, in the meantime, what do we do?" Hailey asked.
"I'm just gonna watch to see if she squints at all during the movie. Maybe if you guys take her to the park tomorrow ask her to see things that are far away, like, Hey! Look at that cool bird! or something and see if she squints or not. Can't really do much until she goes to the optometrist," Will answered.
"You guys are missing Flynn get hit with a frying pan!" you yelled.
"I blame you for her love of violence, Jay," Will joked.
"Coming!" Jay yelled. "Just a sec, kiddo!"
Then, the adults filled their plates and made their way to the living room.
***
Monday afternoon
Will was going to kill his brother. When you got in the car, he asked if you were ready to go. To where, you had no idea. So, you had asked if you were going home.
"No, to the doctor, silly. To get your eyes looked at," Will answered.
"But I already did that! No more, please! Wanna go home!"
Will sighed but continued driving. "Why don't you want to go to the doctor, kiddo?"
"Because I don't want shots! I didn't get shots last time, so I gotta get shots now! Don't want 'em!" you cried.
"Oh, no, no, no," Will quickly soothed. "No shots. They're just going to look at your eyes. Then, you have to tell them which picture is easier to see and what letter you're looking at."
"Really? No shots?"
"No shots," Will confirmed.
"And I get French fries after?"
Will took a deep breath. Did he want to have an argument with you while driving and then end up either in an accident or late to your appointment because he had to pull over? No. Neither of those sounded particularly appealing. So, he went with the safest option.
"Yes, we can get French fries after."
***
"Y/N Halstead," the optometrist called after you had been sitting at the office for ten minutes.
You stood up and so did Will and you quickly grabbed his hand, letting him know that he would be coming into that room with you no matter what.
"I'm not going anywhere, kiddo."
"I just making sure," you told him, causing him to chuckle lightly.
You walked into an office with a weird thing hanging from the ceiling. There were lots of different circles and it was really big. There was a chair in front of it, too.
While the doctor started talking to you, he lowered the chair. "So, Y/N, I hear you're having a little trouble seeing the board at school, hmm?"
You shrugged. "A little. But only when I'm far away."
"And that's okay. What I'm going to do is help you see better. I'm going to lower down this machine--I know it looks big, but it's not scary, I promise--. Then, I'm going to have you read some letters to me."
"Like I did the other day at the doctor's?" you asked as you looked up at Will.
"Exactly like you did the other day," he confirmed. "Now you just look into special stuff so we know exactly what glasses you need." Then, he quickly turned to the optometrist. "Sorry. I'm Dr. Will Halstead, an ED doc at Chicago Med. Also her older brother."
"He said I gotta go to someone else for my eyes, but he's a doctor," you said to the optometrist.
The optometrist laughed and then shook your brother's hand. "Well, he's right." Then, he got down to your level and said in a stage whisper, "and between you and me, I probably know more about eyes than him."
"Really? I didn't think anyone was smarter than Will!"
"Really. Now let's take a look at those eyes." He moved over to his chair and then had you look into the glass circles. "Now, read me the smallest letter you can see."
***
"How'd it go?" Jay asked when you and Will walked into his apartment. Then, he spotted the McDonald's bag. "Seriously?"
"Only way she was gonna go. You sure she doesn't listen to your interrogations at the district? She had to have learned blackmail from somewhere."
"Haha, very funny. Did it go well, kiddo?"
"Yeah, I had to look at these pictures and tell the not Will doctor what one looked better," you answered.
Jay held back a laugh at your description of the doctor. "Did you pick out any glasses?"
"Yeah, I got purple. Can I eat my food now?"
"Go wash your hands and then you can."
You ran off to go wash your hands so that you could eat your chicken nuggets and fries and then Jay turned to Will.
"She been like this all day?" Jay asked.
"Doesn't help when she has no idea what's going and I have to tell her thirty minutes before the appointment, Jay," Will quipped.
"Fries and nuggies!" you yelled as you ran out of the bathroom after washing your hands, which effectively cut your brothers' conversation about your lack of excitement to see clearly short.
***
3 days later, Thursday.
"You ready to pick up your glasses, kiddo?" Jay asked as you got in his truck in the pickup line at school.
You simply shrugged. "Yeah," was all you answered.
Today at school, during soccer at recess, a boy's glasses fell off and then someone accidentally stepped on them and broke them when you were playing! What if that happened with your glasses? What if you couldn't play soccer anymore because you wore glasses?
You loved soccer ever since you had started playing it last year. And, you and Jay always practiced on Sunday mornings at the park. And, when it was nice out, you two would always have a picnic. It was always a Jay and Y/N date (sometimes Hailey would come along, but only if you agreed to it). That time was sacred for you and Jay because of his demanding job, but what if you didn't get to do that anymore all because you needed stupid glasses to see the stupid board at stupid school?
"How was school?" Jay asked. He knew by your demeanor that your mood was more sour than it had been this morning, and he'd prefer to discuss it now than have you blow up at home. One would be shocked at how much anger you could hole up and spew out from your little body.
"It was good. Same old, same old."
Jay rolled his eyes. You had definitely picked up that saying from Will. "Do anything fun?" he probed. "Was recess good?"
"I played soccer during first and second recess, but I didn't score at all. Stupid boys. They're always faster than me."
If you hadn't added the last part, then Jay would probably have told you that boys have cooties anyway and to stay away from them until you're thirty. But, you did say that last part, so he knew he had to be comforting.
"Well, you gotta remember, you like playing defense, so what do I always tell you?"
"I gotta outsmart 'em...and slide tackle."
Last Jay checked that was illegal in kids' soccer. "I don't think me or Will ever taught you about slide tackling. Where'd you learn about that, kiddo?"
"Adam taught me when he took me to the park when you had to talk to some bad guys yesterday."
"Of course he did," Jay muttered. "Just remember, you can only do that to me, Will, or Adam. Don't try and do that to other people, okay?"
He knew that he should probably tell you to never do that, but eh, he figured he'd let you have a little fun. And, it wasn't like he never got kicked out of games for doing a slide tackle...okay, maybe multiple slide tackles in a game with one leading to the other team's captain getting a concussion.
"Okay," you answered. "I'm not good at 'em anyway."
Jay chuckled. "And let's keep it that way."
***
Jay was both happy and frustrated when he watched you put on your glasses and see the world clearly for the first time in who knows how long. He was frustrated because how could he have not noticed this? Hell, how could Will not have noticed this? And, he was happy as he watched your mouth fall slightly agape and mutter whoa to yourself.
After you made sure that your glasses fit and the optometrist did all the necessary checks, you made your way back to Jay's truck.
"I gotta stop at the district to pick up some paperwork," Jay said as he began driving. "You ready to show off your glasses to everyone?"
"Yes!" you exclaimed. You loved the color of your glasses and everything was so pretty! Nothing was blurry anymore!
When you walked into the district, you were first met with Trudy, who didn't see you at first.
"Looking for this, Chuckles? You left it here earlier and you and me both know that Voight will have yourâ" And then she noticed you and quickly shut her mouth before she swore in front of you.
"Good catch, sarge," Jay said and took the manilla folder from her.
"Y/N, I didn't know you had glasses! They look so pretty! So much better than my old lady ones," Trudy complimented.
Then, you heard someone coming down the stairs.
"So if I call you oldâ"
"Shut it, Ruzek," she snapped as Adam strode over to you.
"And, she's back. Thanks, man," Jay complained.
"I was just telling Y/N here how pretty her glasses were before you ever so impolitely interrupted," Trudy said to Adam.
Then, Adam crouched down to your height. "My, my. They sure are pretty." Then, he held up three fingers. "How many fingers am I holding up?"
"Adam!" you laughed. "That's not how they work."
"But I thought that's how glasses worked. How about you tell me how they do work?"
"I just can't see far away. You gotta back up and do that."
He did so and then reached into his pocket.
"So, can you read this?"
"Oreos! I can read the words now!"
That stopped Jay in his tracks. "What do you mean by that, kiddo?"
"I can read the words from far away now and not just close by me. It's because I have my glasses now, duh."
Adam almost burst out laughing at your sass, but held back his laughter when he saw Jay's death stare directed right at him.
"Right, of course, silly me," Jay answered quickly. "Go get your Oreos from Adam and then we can go upstairs and show everyone else your glasses, how's that sound?"
"Okay!" you excitedly ran up to Adam and he handed you the Oreos. "Thank you!"
"You're very welcome!"
You started towards the stairs and Jay quickly whispered to Adam, "Boards flipped?"
"Did it before I walked down here since I heard her voice."
"Great, thanks."
"Jay! You gotta put your hand here to open it because I'm not special enough to put my hand here!" you exclaimed.
"Okay, okay, hold on a sec," he said and then gently pushed you to the side to put his hand on the palm scanner. The door beeped and then he pulled the door open. "Ladies first."
You walked in and immediately everyone's heads turned towards you.
"Y/N!" Hailey exclaimed "You got your glasses!"
"Yeah! Everything looks so much better and so pretty!" You took a moment to look around the bullpen. Despite being in this room with Jay and Hailey for two years now off and on since your dad died, you could finally see it clearly. You thought everything was always a little blurry around the edges.
"How many fingers am I holding up?" Voight asked from the back of the bullpen near his office.
"Three!" you yelled confidently.
"That's right! Wow, she counts faster than you, Ruzek."
Jay held back a laugh while Adam exclaimed, "Why you gotta be like that, Boss?"
"Because it's true. You got the paperwork, Halstead?"
"Right here. I'll get out of your hair now because it's my RDO and I do not want to be here on my day off. C'mon, Y/N, let's go home."
"But I didn't see Kevin or Kim yet!" you whined.
"They're out doing police work, kiddo. You can see them later, okay?"
"But I want to show them my glasses!"
Hailey quickly saw the temper tantrum that was about to erupt and stood up. "How about I take a picture of you with your glasses and send it to them? Then you can see what they say when I get home tonight. How does that sound, Y/N?"
You nodded and walked closer to her. "Yes!"
While Hailey was taking your picture, Jay mouthed thank you to his wife for avoiding a meltdown in the bullpen.

3 days later, Sunday
You did not sleep good at all. You tossed and turned all night thinking about your Jay and Y/N date in the morning. You loved them and you loved soccer! But you couldn't go now because what if your glasses fell off when you and Jay were passing the ball and practicing? And, if you took off your glasses before playing, what if he got mad at you? Jay and Will had told you that you had to wear them all the time! And you didn't want Jay Jay to be mad at you!
So, when you went into the kitchen in the morning (wearing your glasses of course) and saw Jay and Hailey sipping their cups of coffee, one could only imagine your relief when you looked out the window and saw the sky was covered with dark gray clouds.
"Morning, kiddo," Jay greeted. "Doesn't look like we can play soccer today." Then, Jay furrowed his eyebrows as he got a better look at you. You had dark circles under your eyes that looked like they should be for a college student cramming for finals instead of a first-grader on a Sunday morning. "You feeling okay?" Then, he walked up to you and placed the back of his hand on your forehead. "Hmm, you don't feel warm."
"Didn't sleep good," you mumbled.
"I didn't sleep good either," Hailey sympathized. "Must be the weather." She knew it was her insomnia acting up, but you had no idea what that was--and she hoped you never would have to know what that was like--, but she didn't feel like explaining it to a first grader this early in the morning while she was running on fumes herself.
"How about we have a lazy day," Jay suggested. "Movies and coloring sound good, Y/N?"
"Yeah. Can Will come, too? He always does the best coloring."
It was true. Because of how steady Will's hands were due to being a surgeon, he could color in all the small areas in the pictures, even in adult coloring books that Hailey had, that you, Jay, and Hailey would typically make a mess out of and at least color outside the lines a bit.
"I'll give him a call. I don't see why he wouldn't want a lazy day," Jay said.
"And, I think we have some chocolate chip cookie dough in the freezer to bake cookies," Hailey suggested.
Jay glared at his wife and then rolled his eyes. You've already gotten spoiled with treats and takeout more than enough this past week and a half. But, he knew as well Hailey knew herself that she had a sweet tooth and it only got worse when her insomnia was acting up.
"Before we do all that," Jay began, "let's get you some breakfast first. What sounds good, kiddo?"
"Can I have an omelet? With lots of cheese please?"
You were recently introduced to these a few months ago when you and Hailey were enjoying chocolate chip waffles at a diner and Jay had an omelet. You wanted some of his hash browns, but he said you had to try a bit of his omelet. You didn't really want to try this, but your want hash browns overpowered this. And, lo and behold, you liked it! So, now on Sundays when Jay wasn't working, you'd ask for an omelette. It has to be Jay who made them though because he made the best ones between him, Will, and Hailey.
"Omelet it is," Jay replied and then picked up a spatula. "How about you go get dressed while I make this, okay?"
"Okay!"
Then, you ran off to your room to put on some comfy clothes to spend the day in.

"Where's Y/N?" Will joked when he walked inside around 10:30 that morning.
"I'm right here!" you yelled while you sat at the table coloring. You had no idea how he couldn't see you when you were right there!
"Oh, I didn't recognize you with such pretty glasses."
You dropped your head. "You- You don't?"
Luckily Jay was behind you so that you didn't see him wipe his hand down his face.Â
His brother, Jay thought. Thank god he didn't go into pediatrics.
"I was only kidding, silly! Of course, I recognize you! The only thing different about you is that you have glasses now. But, do you recognize me?"
"Yes! But your hair's really messy! Do you want to use my brush?"
Jay choked on his second cup of coffee at your comment and Hailey quickly hit him on the back.
He cleared his throat. "Sorry, went down the wrong pipe," he said and then coughed a couple more times.
Will smoothed down his hair. "Wind's pretty strong out there. Guess it messed it up a bit." Then, he walked over to the table and set a tray of drinks down. "Coffee for all three of us and hot chocolate for you." He handed you your drink. "Careful though. It might still be super hot. Now, what are we coloring?"
***
"She is totally out," Jay commented later that afternoon.
The four of you had started watching a movie and you had curled up next to Hailey under your favorite fuzzy blanket. Needless to say, after you struggled to sleep this past night, within thirty minutes of the movie, you were totally out with your head leaning against Hailey's chest.
Hailey smiled down at you. "She's so cute when she's sleeping."
"When she's awake she's a menace now apparently," Will joked.
"Just because she made one comment about your precious hair," Jay muttered. "Let the hair comment go, man. Let it go."
Will rolled his eyes. "So, how's she doing? She mention any headaches at all with her glasses?"
"Hasn't said anything to me," Jay answered. "She say anything to you, Hails?"
"Nothing," Hailey replied. "She also didn't say that kids were mean to her, so that's good, too."
"Yeah, I remember when Jay got his glasses. All the kids teased him about it," Will said.
"It wasn't all the kids. It was you! Just you! And, now they have more education for bullying and stuff, so maybe kids are nicer than when we were kids." Then, Jay changed the subject. "I'm just shocked she didn't throw a fit when I said we couldn't play soccer today because it was storming."
"But, she said she didn't sleep good last night," Hailey reminded him.
"Yeah, I know. But still, she loves Sundays. And, at the beginning of winter a few months ago, she threw a fit the first time there was too much snow on the ground to go."
"I would say consider it a good thing that she didn't fight with you this morning," Will began, "but you said she didn't sleep good. She say anything else to you? Her tummy or head hurt? I didn't notice anything off when I was here, but maybe she said something earlier."
Jay shook his head. "She seemed fine, other than her being tired."
"Okay, good. If she tells you anything else--especially if she's having headaches--let me know."

3 days later, Tuesday
You were usually so excited for Tuesday nights and soccer practice, but now, you were nervous. What if your glasses fell off and somebody broke them? You didn't want Jay or Will or Hailey to be mad at you!
So, when you were running at practice, you went exceptionally slow, which made Jay wonder if you were hurt. He watched you shake your head at your coach, so he must've asked you the same thing.
When you got in the car after practice, needless to say, Jay was slightly worried.
"You okay, kiddo? You didn't look like you were having fun out there."
"I was having fun," you answered, but that was only a half-truth. You only had fun when you were defending and didn't have to worry about running as much, and thus, your glasses falling off.
"Okay. You just didn't feel like it today then?" You shrugged. "That's okay. Everyone has days like that."
What he wasn't going to do was be like your dad and make it seem like you needed to be at 100% every single day. As long as you tried your best with what you had left in the tank, that was all that mattered.
You nodded and just looked out the window while Jay kept driving.
And once you got home, since you put your cleats away nicely without being asked, Jay added a sticker to your sticker chart. But, his detective senses were tingling.
Something was definitely off with you.

One week later
It had been a long week for both Hailey and Jay. They'd had their hands full at work trying to catch a serial rapist who ended up killing his last three victims.
During this time, you had spent most of your time with Will, except on Jay's RDO, and then Hailey's RDO when they each spent time with you instead. Even though each of them knew that the team would be a man down on each of their RDOs, they knew it would be difficult for Will to be the sole caretaker of you with his demanding job as well. So, even though they probably should've worked during their RDOs this week, they didn't.
But, they had been so mentally drained on their days off that neither of them remembered to check your backpack for important paperwork. And, both Jay and Hailey knew that Will always conveniently "forgot" to check this. (But, it was probably because he didn't feel like disciplining you if you got a bad report.)
Now, it was 8pm on Tuesday night, they had caught the guy, and both Jay and Hailey had quickly finished their paperwork so that they were home in time for bedtime.
Once Jay and Hailey had finished reading you a chapter of The Chronicles of Narnia, Jay did what he always did when he hadn't been able to see you on a couple of school days straight: he went through your backpack to see if he missed anything such as permission slips, notes from your teacher, and to ensure that Will had been making you do your homework.
When he went through your math folder, stuck between last week's homework assignments and this week's was a note written in cursive. Because it was written that way, he could only assume it was addressed to him or another adult.
Mr. Halstead, I'm writing you this to make sure that Y/N hasn't lost her glasses. I haven't seen her wearing them the past couple of days and wanted to make sure accommodations didn't need to be made. If she has lost them, please let me know and I will be sure to move her desk up to the front to help her see the board for the time being. If you have any questions, please call me at my office number or email me. I previously left a voicemail for you and emailed you, but I don't know if they went through. -Stephanie Harding.
Jay sighed, pulled out a chair at the kitchen table, and began scrolling through his phone. There, from Friday afternoon, was an email from your teacher as well as a phone call from yesterday morning. How could he have missed these?
"You okay?" Hailey asked as she walked into the kitchen, freshly showered. She grabbed two beers from the fridge, popped the cap off both, made her way to the table, and handed one to Jay. "We should be celebrating, not sulking."
"I know, and I'm glad that case is over and the guy's in prison because, you know, he's a monster, but look what I found in Y/N's backpack."
He slid her the note and she began reading.
When she finished, she looked up. "Don't talk to her tonight, Jay. You might dysregulate her so bad that she might go back to sleep because her routine got thrown off."
"I know, but when am I supposed to talk to her? I don't want her throwing a fit in the morning before school, and who knows what's going to come across our desks in terms of cases tomorrow."
Hailey grabbed one of Jay's hands. "Jay, we'll figure it out. And, if we need to wait for your RDO or the weekend when we both hopefully have off, then we'll do that, okay?"
"Okay." He gave his wife's hand a squeeze and then took a sip of his beer.
Thank god for Hailey Upton, he thought.
***
The next day, Wednesday
Once you and Jay got home after he picked you up from school, he made you a snack and you pulled out a chapter book to read to him to practice your reading skills like it was just any other day. He set the addition and subtraction flashcards next to him. You'd do those after you read to him.
But, when you took your first bite of your ants on a log (celery with peanut butter, topped with a few chocolate chips), he reached over and slid the book over to himself. Then, he set it down on the chair next to him so as not to distract you from the upcoming conversation.
"We're not reading?" you asked, furrowing your eyebrows at him.
"Listen, kiddo, we need to talk about why you are not wearing your glasses at school."
"I am!" you protested.
But, Jay saw how your eyes widened slightly when he first said it. He knew you were lying; now he just needed you to admit to it.
"Y/N, your teacher called me and told me that you aren't wearing them. You're not in trouble--"
"No!" you shouted and jumped off your chair. Then, you ran to your room and slammed your door.
Tears pricked your eyes as you threw yourself on your bed.
You couldn't play soccer when you were in high school if you had glasses! At all the games you went to, none of them had glasses! You couldn't give up soccer just to wear these stupid glasses! What did your brothers and your teacher know, anyway? None of them even wore glasses!
You were waiting for Jay to come yell at you for slamming your door, but he never came. And you were so tired from school and from the short conversation that you had with Jay, that you eventually just cried yourself to sleep.
As for Jay, the second he heard your door slam, he sighed and laid his head on the table. What the hell was he supposed to do?
***
You woke up to someone gently shaking your shoulder.
"Y/N, c'mon it's time for dinner, honey."
Hailey.
"No," you mumbled.
You didn't want to face Jay after everything!
"You need to eat, Y/N. You didn't even finish your snack earlier. Just c'mon out and eat dinner with me and Jay."
"Jay gonna be mad at me," you said quietly and rolled over so that you were facing the wall.
"He won't be mad; we just want you to eat something. He made your favorite, fettuccine alfredo, remember?"
That's right! You got to pick dinner once a week and told Jay last week that you wanted fettuccine! And today was Wednesday! It was your dinner day!
"Oh yeah! I forgetted!"
Then, you jumped out of bed and ran downstairs.
Hailey shook her head as she walked behind you. Kids and their moods.
When you got to the kitchen, your plate was set right where it usually was with fettuccine, broccoli, and garlic bread.
You eyed Jay suspiciously when you sat down.
Then, Jay noticed you weren't wearing your glasses. Hailey noticed the very slight tilt of his head, so she quickly jumped in.
"They're on her bedside table," she said. "She was sound asleep when I went up there."
"Mhm," you agreed and then took a bite of your pasta.
Jay figured it was better to let you eat almost all of your food before he started in on the glasses conversation again. He needed you to eat something because, at this point, you hadn't eaten anything except your one ant on a log since 11am at school, which was seven hours ago. He didn't know how you hadn't woken up and been hungry but hey, he knew as well as you did that tantrums made you utterly exhausted.
Once you only had half of your garlic bread left, Jay decided it was time to have another go at this.
"Y/N, me and Hailey were talking, and we thought that if you came home from school wearing glasses, you can get an extra sticker on your chore chart," Jay said. "How's that sound?"
You shrugged. "Okay." You had already been doing that. You'd put them on right when you got in the car. You didn't need them for up close stuff like talking with your friends anyway and you could see Jay, Hailey, and Will just fine without your glasses; they were just a little blurry around the edges.
"That means we need to see you wearing them when we pick you up," Jay continued. "You can't just put them on when you get inside the car." Your brother was nothing if not perceptive.
You could do that. You'd just put them on when you walked out of school for pickup. You couldn't wear them all the time because then what if someone said something about you not wearing them while playing soccer at recess? Then you'd have to wear them at recess and you couldn't play soccer with them on!
"Okay," you said.
"Okay, good," Jay replied.
But, he shot a glance at Hailey. That was way too quick for you to agree to this without a fight even with the added incentive of getting a sticker on your sticker chart.
Something was off and both he and Hailey knew it.
***
Two days later, Friday
Jay walked out of an interrogation, relayed the info to his team, and then sat down at his desk to do some digging into this guy's financials. But, his phone lit up, notifying him that he had a voicemail.
He saw it was from your teacher and his brow furrowed.
"Hi, Mr. Halstead. This is Stephanie Harding calling. I received your email a couple of days ago explaining how you talked with Y/N about wearing her glasses and she said that she'd wear them and that they are not lost. I just wanted to inform you that she hasn't worn her glasses at all throughout the school day, but will put them on for pickup.
I just wanted to inform you of this and please let me know if there's anything that I can do to help."
Jay clenched his jaw and sighed frustratedly after he finished listening. He thought he'd be dealing with this level of sneakiness when you were a teenager, not now!
"Nothing in the financials?" Hailey asked from across from him.
"Still working on that," Jay answered. "Y/N's teacher called. Said she still hasn't been wearing her glasses."
"What? She was wearing them yesterday when I picked her up."
"Her teacher said that she'll put them on at pickup but won't wear them at all during the rest of the day."
Hailey shook her head and rolled her eyes. "We are getting played by a first-grader, Halstead."
"Don't I know it. I'm gonna give Will a call and see if she wore her glasses at pickup. Maybe he can get to the bottom of it while she's at his house tonight."
***
"Alright, kiddo. Game plan today is homework, snack, and reading. Then we'll grab a quick dinner somewhere and go to the girls' soccer game. Sound good?" Will asked when you got inside and set your backpack down.
"Don't wanna do my math homework," you complained. "It's stupid."
"What are you working on?" Will probed. "Maybe I can help you."
"Subtraction. My friends say it's like adding, but the opposite, but it's not!"
"Okay, okay, calm down. I'll make you a snack and then we'll work through it together. How's an apple with peanut butter sound?"
"Do you still have the green apples?"
"I do. Green apple with peanut butter coming right up."
***
Will wasn't stupid. He knew why Jay probably couldn't get the answer from you about not wearing your glasses. And that was because he was asking at the wrong time and because he was the one who disciplined you. Will never had to do that except for taking away ice cream as a bedtime snack a couple of times when you mouthed off to him. You didn't have to worry about having to go to bed early or not being able to watch more tv because you had gotten in trouble with Will. And, you and Jay were very much alike; both of you bottled up your emotions and were stubborn to no end...which is probably why you argued more with Jay than you did Will and Hailey and why Jay couldn't get you to talk about your glasses.
So, Will didn't bring up the glasses at dinner. He didn't even bring them up when you were at the soccer game.
But now was the time for him to bring this up.
You were currently sitting down next to him on the pull-out couch with your teddy bear and your favorite blanket, all ready for a chapter of Narnia and then for bed. You were comfortable and there was nothing to overstimulate you. You had food in your system and the excitement from the day was over.
You were calm.
"Before we start reading, kiddo, I need to ask you a question," Will started.
"Okay, what is it? Is it about what happened in Narnia when me Jay and Hailey readed it last week? Because I can tell you so you're not con...conâ" You scrunched up your eyebrows as you tried to remember the word. "So that you know what's happenin'," you said instead.
"It's not about Narnia, but you can tell me before we start reading if you want. But first, I want to know why you aren't wearing your glasses. Do they make your head hurt? Did someone laugh at you?" You shook your head. "Okay, then what is? What's going on, Y/N?"
"Soccer," you mumbled, but it was so quiet that Will couldn't even hear you.
"What was that?" Will asked softly. "It's okay. You can tell me. I won't be mad at you."
You looked up at Will's face. He didn't look mad. Maybe you could tell him. Maybe he wouldn't tell Jay either and then everything would be fine.
"I can't play soccer no more be-because I have glasses!"
At this, you started to cry. All of the nerves you had felt about lying to your brothers and Hailey and the sadness about not being able to play soccer anymore all came tumbling out of you. And, it didn't help that no one on the high school girls' soccer team that you just went and watched earlier wore glasses. That just proved your point!
Will sighed and held back a laugh. Leave it to a little kid to catastrophize from A to Z.
"Who told you that?" Will asked, now realizing that he needed to get to the root of the problem.
"No one did! But none of the big girls wear glasses when they play soccer! And one boy's fell off at school and they got smashed and I'm the only one on my team that has glasses and---"
"Hey, hey, slow down. Take a deep breath, okay?" He allowed you to take a few breaths before he placed a hand on your shoulder. "You can still play soccer."
You looked up at him and your eyebrows furrowed before your mouth fell slightly agape. "I can?
"Yes, silly! We just need to get a strap for the back of your glasses because then they'll stay on when you're running."
"And I can play soccer with Jay Jay on Sunday?!"
"And you can play soccer with Jay on Sunday, yes," Will confirmed.
"Yay!"
"Now what do you say you fill me in on Narnia before I start reading to you, hmm?"
***
"Tell me you got something out of her," was the first thing that Jay said when he answered Will's call later that night.
"Jay, this is our sister we're talking about, not a criminal investigation."
"I know that, smartass. Still...anything?"
"She thought she couldn't play soccer with her glasses."
"What? Where'd she get that idea?"
"Well, kids are very observant, Jay. Maybe more observant than you seeing as you didn't even catch this--"
"Neither did you!"
"Last I checked, my job doesn't involve me doing a stakeout or working undercover."
And then Will launched into a recap of the conversation he had with you.
"Come to think of it," Will began when he was done and had answered all of Jay's questions, "I'm shocked you didn't think to get one for her right away because you didn't get contacts until high school and wore your glasses with a strap when you played soccer all the way from elementary school to middle school. You know what? I think I still have some pictures of that from the family photo album I took from Dad's--"
"Don't you dare!" Jay threatened.
"Who's gonna stop me?"
"Name your price...within reason."
"Breakfast tomorrow, 9am before me and Y/N go pick out her glasses strap. And you're paying."
"Deal!"
And years later, once you got to high school, you never did get contacts because one, you thought you looked better with glasses than without, and two, you wanted all of the little kids that came and watched your games to know that they could play whatever sport they wanted regardless of whether or not they wore glasses.
A/N: Thank you for reading and don't forget to vote and comment! Also, fun fact, I didn't get my glasses until I was 21. I went to renew my driver's license and barely passed the eye exam, so now I wear glasses.

You had just gotten out of your car across the street from the side of Med and, as you were making your way through the bit of road that led to the hospital, a car comes into the driveway â screeching tires, in full speed â and runs you over long before you could even see anything and, there, in the matter of a few seconds, everything goes black and youâre left bleeding out in the street.
Almost an hour later, after you had regained consciousness and had begun dragging yourself, very slowly, towards the hospital, Will and Ethan, about to go inside Med, spot you and run your way eager to help you out â even if they hadnât known it was you at first.
âOh man, itâs Dr. (y/n) (y/l/n)!â Ethan exclaimed.
â(y/n), can you hear me?!?â You sort of heard Will ask through your dizziness haze.
âWow, youâre actually shorter this up close than I had imagined at first.â You attempted a joke with your friend, momentarily gaining some clarity.
Ignoring you, Will just asked no one specifically, ïżœïżœoh Lord, how long has she been bleeding out here?â
Decisive as always, you heard as Dr. Choi commanded, âI donât know but, come on, Will, letâs carry her to the ED!â
As soon as your friends get inside the hospital with you, everybody stays in shock for a moment until Maggie yells: "get her in treatment 4, now!"
Following her lead, Will and Ethan get started on treating you, who has a few broken ribs, and free fluid in your belly besides from a punctured spleen. Having done their best in the ED, they decide to send your upstairs for surgery with Crocket.
Once you're going to surgery, Miss Goodwin tells Maggie and the doctors to call PD and specifically ask for Intelligence, since you were friends with the unit. As the cops get there, one stands out: Jay Halstead. He's frantic, devastated-looking, just completely lost, and desperate to hear more news about your condition. No one really understands why he is reacting like that, but all of them do share the fear of losing a great friend. Voight's giving out assignments to the team, so Jay knows that that's when he needs to speak up.
"Um, sarge?" All eyes are on him. "If you and the team don't mind running one man short today... I was hoping that I could, um, stay here with- with her?" Hank just stares at him, unlike everyone else â who are shocked â the older man's focus is on his detective's eyes, on the way he was so distraught from the moment they got the call about (y/l/n). That was the behavior, the look, of a terrified man. And, as everyone there knew, Jay Halstead â the freaking war vet â wasn't one to get scared easily. "(y/n) and I-"
"It's fine. No need to explain. You should stay here, Jay. Let us know, in case anything changes. And we'll catch the son of a bitch." He said firmly, making Jay feel as appreciative as ever, and, also, sending an implicit message to all the other members of the unit, one that said: we work this with all we got right now, for (y/n), and for Jay, no questions asked.
After the officers left the hospital, there was still a big commotion from everyone who stayed, because it was one of their own up there in the or. But, surpassing everyone else's, was Will's surprise by how distraught Jay looked, especially considering how his little brother wanted to stay at the hospital, instead of going to find who hurt you. So he comes to confront the detective about it. "So... You and (y/n) are a thing?" Will asked, trying to understand. Since Jay just nodded his head, he decided to push a little further: "And... Were you ever planning to tell me? What the hell, man?"
"Will, I-"
"She's one of my best friends, Jay! Not to mention the fact that I'm the doctor who oversees her work here!"
"Will you put it down?" Jay pleaded with his brother, motioning him to a more reserved corner of the waiting room. "I know, okay? I know. And I'm sorry if it upsets you, man, I really am. But this could've blown her career. That's why we hadn't told you yet." It was clear that Will didn't exactly like his brother's explanation, but he knew it was true.
"Just... How long?"
"Um, about six months?"
"Six months?!" The doctor yelled in shock, then repeated it in a lower tone. "But, six months?"
"Yeah, I know it's a lot of time keeping you in the dark, Will. But, trust me, we weren't thrilled about it. And we were hoping to tell you soon. I swear." Jay said, and his brother could, once again, see it was the truth.
"So, that means that when you started seeing each other she was still finishing med school?"
"Yeah, that's right. Which was, like, the main reason for us to keep it under wraps. An intern dating the attending doctor's little brother? Wouldn't look good."
"That's true..." At that point, Will took another look at his brother. Jay looked so worried and scared, even while trying to hide it. "So, uh, you guys are serious?" That question got a little smile out of the detective.
"Yes, we are. I know that it is new for you... But, I love her, Will. I really do." He took a moment to breathe, not being able to hold back some tears this time. âAnd, I canât lose her. I just canât.â
âJayâŠâ Will started saying but didnât quite know how to continue. What could he possibly say to comfort his brother right now? âWe just⊠We just gotta stay hopeful, okay? (y/n) is a really tough person and Dr. Marcel is a great surgeon, you know it. She is gonna pull through.â
A lot of disquieting hours later Crocket finally comes out of the surgery, just to be met by a very worried hospital staff and an on-edge Jay Halstead.
"Where is sh- How is she? Is (y/n) okay? Can I see her?" The detective hovers, not even taking a breath.
"Wow! Uh, you gotta calm down a little, buddy."
"Don't give me that crap! Just- just tell me how she is!" Jay shouts again, not giving a damn about what anyone was thinking. You were the only thing on his mind right now.
"Alright. But try to keep breathing, okay?" To that, the other man didn't even bother to answer. "Okay, um, it was a very complicated surgery, I had to do a lot of cleaning and moving around to get to the worst parts and-"
"Can you please just cut to the part where you tell me if she's okay? No offense, but you can fill me in on the details later." Jay stated nervously. It wasn't just that he wanted to know what was the result of all those hours in the or, but, also, because Jay knew he wouldn't understand half of what Connor was saying, even with the simplified language. You would. But not him.
"Right. Okay. She's, um, she's okay for now. We'll need to monitor her on an hourly basis, though." By that point, the surgeon could already see the relief on both Halsteads' faces, so he went on. "We controlled the bleeding, but, with all the blood loss," he stopped to take another look at the detective, "I'm afraid," another pause, because, sure he had delivered this kind of news before, but this time it was a lot harder, because those people were his friends. And, what they had just lost, he had just lost too, in a way, "we couldn't save the baby."
"The baby?" This time he got an answer from both brothers.
"Uh, uh... You, uh, you didn't know she was pregnant?" Crocket asked, kind of already guessing the answer while sharing a look with Will.
"Oh my God..." It was all the youngest Halstead managed to let out. Seeing how his brother was unable to react any further, Will decided to step up and ask the tough questions.
"So, um, if everything goes well from now on, you think that (y/n/n) will make a full recovery?"
"Ahhh, yes, actually. She was in great health, so, after making it through, uh, through the night, she shouldn't have any major issues." At that point, Marcel himself was trying to be as objective and as doctorish as possible, in order not to make things worse for the man who had just heard that he lost a child he didn't even have a chance to wait for.
"So, is it, um- is it possible that she didn't know about the pregnancy yet?" But, damn it, Will just kept asking all the impossible questions.
"Uh... It is, actually. Very possible." Hearing that, the detective immediately glued his eyes on him. "We estimate that the fetus was about seven weeks. It's very common that women on birth control haven't found out about it at that point." As neither Halstead said anything, Marcel continued, "well, she's up in the ICU now and in and out of consciousness but, if you want, you can see her for a few minutes."
Hearing that, the detective came out of his haze and said: "Yeah, I wanna see her!"
A few hours later, as Will Halstead gathered his things after finishing his shift, he decided to go check on you but got surprised when he realized that his brother was still there, in the waiting room. "Jay, what are you still doing here?"
"I'm waiting," he said simply.
"Jay." Will called again, "you can't do this, you need to go home, get some sleep, eatâŠ"
"I'm not leaving her alone."
"She's not gonna be alone, Jay." Not getting any response, Will decided to lead with something else. "You know, Voight called Goodwin and said that they're hitting a lot of walls in the (y/l/n) investigationâŠ" Measuring his brother's reaction, Will continued: "Maybe they'd have better luck working with the whole teamâŠ"
"Yeah, you're probably right. Tomorrow I'll tell Voight that I want in on the investigation." Jay said, not making any sign of wanting to leave.
"Jay, you can't work tomorrow after staying here the whole night!" Seeing his little brother still not intending to leave, he threatened, "if you don't go home right now, I'll call Voight myself and tell him that you're in no shape to work-"
"Oh, c'mon! You're gonna do that!"
"I wouldn't be so sure if I were you," Will said, looking as serious as they get. "Look, Jay, you know she's in good hands here. And, whatever happens, you'll be the first to know, I've made sure of it."
"But-"
"But nothing, Jay! It's time to go, come on!" Will pressed so much that Jay resigned himself to do as his brother told him.
For almost a week, you stayed in the ICU. For almost a week, Jay Halstead passed by Med on his way to work and on his way home from work.
Once you were moved to a room, Jay started feeling like he could finally breathe again, even though there was now the baby that someone had still to tell you. And, after chatting with Will and Crockett, Jay had already decided he was gonna be the one to deliver the news to you. So, one day, after Intelligence had already caught the drug dealers that were running away when they hit you, Jay asked Voight for the afternoon off to take you home from the hospital.
When you were at your place, you asked Jay what was going on: "Hey, you didn't say a word on the way here, is anything besides the fact that I just spent almost two weeks in the hospital and that everyone found out about us wrong?"
"Let's sit down for a minute, babe."
The minute he said that, you knew there was something really wrong.
"Okay, you're scaring meâŠ" You said while sitting down on the couch.
"I just- I have something important to tell you," and, like that, Jay proceeded to tell you the worst thing you ever heard. It's not like you'd been planning on becoming a mother or anything like that anytime soon but it was still a possibility that was brutally taken away⊠You and Jay cried together for the first time and, consoling each other, you felt your relationship growing stronger.Â
So much so that after some time you could start talking about the future that both of you foresaw with one another and, even though nothing was completely decided, there was one thing you knew for sure: as long as you were together, you could face anything.

Hi

With alot of fluff thank you
Molly's Wedding Celebration
FireFighters and Police Officers donât have it easy. With the difficult situations, long hours and difficulty making relationships last. It all just comes with the job we've signed up for. The one thing that currently came with the job is that we all got a second family.
âSo how's the future soon to be Mrs. Halstead?â Brett came over to me while we were getting ready at Will's apartment near Molly's.
Tucking hair behind my ear I chuckled with a bright smile. âI still can't believe he proposed to me at a Blackhawks game of all places.â
âYou know you loved it. You've watched the video like ten times in the past two weeks.â
Whipping our heads around we both saw my soon to be husband Jay Halstead leaning in the doorway of the apartment with his arms crossed over his chest. âJay!â I shrieked overjoyed to see him about to run up to him until Brett jumped in between us.
âWhat are you doing here? You can't be here. It's bad luck to see the bride before the wedding!â
Jay shakes his head dangling a key in his fingers. âI have my brotherâs spare key. Severide only took my car keys. So he doesn't know about this.â
âWell you don't get to keep them. Now get out of here.â Brett stomped forward, snatching the key from his fingers.
I gently grabbed her arm trying to stop her. âBrett, don't. He's okay.â
âBut he's not supposed to see you-â
Jay raised his hands up slightly in surrender, shifting his gaze briefly over in my direction. âTechnically we aren't doing an official formal wedding. So it shouldnât be a big deal, Sylvie.â
âHeâs right, Syl.â I touched her arm glancing towards the clock on the wall seeing it was almost time when we would be heading over to the bar everyone loved. I was wearing a knee length white dress, my light brown cowgirl boots and my hair was curled on the ends. âWe're not doing an official ceremony. Speaking of, I think itâs time we make this happen, don't you say Jay?â
My fiancĂ© smirked, holding his hand out for me to take. âLet's do this, Y/n.â
Jay and I headed over with Brett who held open the door letting us inside the local bar first before she ran over to her spit at the end of the bar that we had our own little ulter built at. Jay dropped his hand from mine going to stand up beside Kelly Severide who had been named his best man since we had allowed his brother Will to officiate the ceremony.
My father moved through the crowd of people offering me his arm once he had reached my side. âYour mother and I wouldnât have minded to pay for a wedding venue but I must say this feels much closer than that probably would have felt.â
âMollyâs is home for me and Jay. Itâs the first place we actually met. So it wouldnât feel truly us if it was done anywhere else in Chicago.â
My father kissed the crown of my head before we paused at the edge of the stage. âTreat her well, Halstead or Iâll come after you.â
âIâll treat her right, sir.â Jay held out his hand with my father placing my hand in his.
Stepping up onto the wooden stage with our hands intertwined together we kept our eyes focused on one another. Will came up to us smirking his dorky grin while shifting his gaze from me to his brother before he started performing the ceremony. âGrowing up I always thought that I would be the one to get married first, but now I couldnât be happier to see my little brother to be tying the knot. Y.n, you clearly love my brother enough to become his wife. You have the passion as we all do in this room and you both bring out the best in one another. So can I get the rings to marry these two?â
âWeâve got them.â Brett and Severide each held up one wedding ring, one for me and one for Jay handing them to the older Halstaed brother.
Will each handed us a ring shifting his focus onto me first. âY/n, do you take this man to be your husband?â
âI do.â
He eyed his brother. âJay, do you take this woman to be your wife?â
âI do.â
Will put a hand on each of our shoulders letting us slip the rings on the other hand. âI now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride.â Jay takes a step towards me cupping my face in his hands, deeply kissing me.
Wrapping my arms around his neck I deepened the already passionate kiss that he had started. Shortly afterwards we heard loud cheers and clapping from everyone in the crowd telling us that we needed to break the long kiss. Shifting my gaze over to the bar we saw Hermin and Gabby coming out of the back room carrying the wedding cake we had ordered. The cake had been designed to be half police badges and the other half was fireman badges.
âWow. It turned out awesome.â I gasped in shock walking up to once they had sat it down on the main bar table letting everyone gather around.
Casey came through the crowd holding up my fireman jacket for me to see. âI figured youâd want your new last name on your uniform now.â The jacket was somewhat cleaned and Jayâs last name was now stitched on the back in big yellow letters in the spot where my last name had previously been.
âThank you, Matt.â I slipped it on over my dress, sending Gabby a smirk since she was holding my bouquet of flowers. âGabby, letâs do the toss now.â
She handed me my bouquet and dragged Brett over into the crowd with her and all the other single ladies. For a while most of us in both departments have been seeing the connection forming between Brett and Casey so now was the perfect time for them to finally tie the knot after so many years of working together. Turning around I gently tossed it up in the air and the bouquet appeared to be going into Gabbyâs hands until she ducked down. âYouâre the next Firehouse girl to get married, Sylivie Brett!â I squealed before the flowers got dropped into my maid of honor's hands.
âHow long have you been planning for me and Casey to get married, Y.n?â She chuckled with Casey wrapping his arm around her waist.
Jay comes to stand beside me, sending the couple a smirk. âBasically since I asked this one to marry me.â
âAlright everyone, the first round of drinks are on me!â Severide announced to everyone and we all cheered overjoyed to know that everything we had planned had turned out as we wanted it to. Mollyâs represented the same thing as our wedding cake did. That all first responders and medical professionals of Chicago have all become a large and loving family.

Silent Nights, Steady Heartsđâ„ïž
Characters: Husband!Jay Halstead x Black!Reader.
Word Count: 500+.
"A Season of Love Christmas Series đâ„ïž"
The chill of Christmas morning seeped through the windows, the faint glow of dawn casting soft shadows across the bedroom. You stirred slightly, the warmth of the blankets tempting you to burrow deeper into them.
But then you felt itâthe familiar press of Jayâs lips against your forehead. It was gentle, unhurried like he had all the time in the world to wake you.
âMerry Christmas,â he murmured, his voice still rough from sleep.
âMmm,â you hummed in reply, cracking one eye open to see his boyish smile. He was already dressed, wearing his favorite green henley that you loved, paired with that flannel he always claimed was âjust practical.â But it wasnât his clothes that caught your attention. It was the way he was holding a steaming mug of coffee in one hand and a small, carefully wrapped gift in the other.
âWhatâs this?â you asked, propping yourself up on one elbow, curiosity mixing with the comfort of the moment.
âCoffee, first,â he said with a grin, handing you the mug. âFigured youâd need it to handle whatâs coming next.â
You sipped, savoring the familiar taste. âWhatâs coming next?â
âOpen this,â he said, placing the small gift in your lap before sitting down on the edge of the bed, his gaze steady but tinged with nervous anticipation.
Carefully, you peeled back the paper, revealing a velvet box. You glanced up at him, your heart skipping a beat at the intensity in his expression.
âJayâŠâ
âJust open it,â he said softly, his hands clasped together as he leaned slightly forward.
Inside was a delicate silver necklace, the pendant shaped like a compass.
âItâs beautiful,â you whispered, tracing the intricate design with your fingertips.
Jay cleared his throat, his voice low but steady. âI know itâs simple, but⊠it felt right. A compassâit always points you in the right direction, right? And for meâŠâ He paused, rubbing the back of his neck before continuing. âYouâve been that for me. My constant. My home. No matter how lost I get, you always bring me back.â
Your breath hitched, and you felt a lump rise in your throat. âJayâŠâ
He leaned in, brushing a strand of hair behind your ear. âI know my jobâs not easy on our relationship. I know Iâm not always easy. But youâre everything to me, and I need you to know that. Not just today, but every day.â
You reached out, wrapping your arms around his neck and pulling him into a tight hug. âYouâre my home too, Jay,â you whispered, your voice thick with emotion.
He held you close, his hand sliding up your back, grounding you both in the moment. When he finally pulled away, he took the necklace from the box and fastened it around your neck, his fingers brushing against your skin.
âPerfect,â he said, a soft smile playing on his lips as he admired how it looked on you.
You leaned in, pressing your forehead to his. âMerry Christmas, baby.â
âMerry Christmas,â he replied, his voice a quiet promise, steady and unwaveringâjust like him.

Giggling - Jay Halstead
Requested: yes
Word count: 309
Warnings: none
a/n: sorry it's short
Masterlist
âYou smell real good, love" They say while nuzzling their nose in your shoulder and you start to laugh because it tickles so much but they won't stop doing that to make you all gigglyâ
Being with Jay was nice. It was safe. It was cozy. You felt truly loved. And every night you were reminded of how much you loved him. Sure heâd come home late sometimes but you were always there to accept him into bed with open arms.Â
And days where he wasnât working, he would find you at some point throughout the day and shower you with his love and affection.Â
You were laying in bed, tired from the extra work you had put into your job yesterday, just trying to get your back to rest up a smidge.Â
Jay was on his side, eyes closed from the nap heâd been taking for a bit, and you sighed, deciding to flip onto your side and maybe catch some sleep too.Â
As soon as you rolled over, Jay looped his arm around you, pulling you to his chest. His breath tickled your neck as he hummed, âYou smell really good baby,â He murmured, rubbing his face into your shoulder.Â
A laugh left your lips as his breath tickled across your skin. âStop-â You managed through a giggle, attempting to cover your neck with your shoulder.Â
He chuckled softly, nuzzling his face further into your neck, peppering kisses along with them,âMmm, no,â Jay muttered, too distracted by the beauty of your laugh to stop himself.Â
âJayy,â You dragged his name out, moving a hand to the side of his face to push him back, rolling over to face him with a wide smile still on your face. ïżœïżœïżœEnough,â You added, firmly but with no actual malice or annoyance behind your words.Â
Jay popped his bottom lip out, sending you big green puppy eyes with the pout. Lightly you leaned down, pressing a quick kiss to his lips. âThatâs for you to promise you wonât tickle me again.â
âI make no promises.â

The Fragile Bonds Part 4 || Jay and Will Halstead x Halstead Sister
*re-posting this because I'm stupid and accidentaly erased my other blog đ« If you were following this story I'd appreciate your reblogs đđ»
Summary: After their father's death, Becca moved in with Jay. This is the first time the detective brother has to go undercover since his sister has been under his full care, creating a challenging situation for both. Reluctantly, Becca will have to live with Will and his family during those days, even though she doesn't feel very welcome in that household.
Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
It was a cloudy afternoon, with no sign of the sun in sight. The rain had subsided, and if it weren't for the gentle drops trickling down the windowpane, it might have gone unnoticed.
Becca lay on her bed, engrossed in the book Mr. Olinsky had given her. The story revolved around a lonely orphan girl who discovers the existence of a giant and goes with him into his world. Becca enjoyed the book, but at that moment, she found it hard to concentrate on her reading. She placed it on her chest and turned her gaze toward the window. She remained still for a few minutes, imagining Hailey's car pulling up on the street. She hoped that this would happen, as the detective had promised to visit her that day. Nevertheless, Becca was accustomed to last-minute changes in plans, a common occurrence in a detective's line of work. She continued to gaze outside, lost in thought, until her reverie was interrupted by a knock at the door from Will.
"Everything okay?" Will asked, but no words came out of his sister. She simply nodded.
"What are you reading?" Her brother approached and took a seat on the edge of the bed, prompting her to do the same. "The BFG?"
"The Big Friendly Giant," she replied. "Mr. Olinsky gave it to me, and he always asks me about it. I want to finish it for the next time I see him."
"Oh," Will was uncertain about how to react. It felt a bit strange to him that she was close to Jay's co-workers. For a moment, it tugged at his heart that she might be becoming closer to them than to him.
"Did you finish your homework?" Will inquired.
"Uh, no. It's Friday, and I don't feel like doing homework right now. I still have the whole weekend," Becca replied.
"Well," he said, taking the book from her hands, "I suggest you finish it today. We're planning to go to the aquarium tomorrow." He smiled from ear to ear.
"The aquarium?" Becca asked without much excitement.
"Yeah! We've been wanting to take Owen for a while now. Tomorrow's a great chance to do it, and you get to come with us," he said, excited and genuinely thinking Becca would be too.
"But tomorrow is my..."
"What?"
"Um, never mind..." She rolled her eyes, hoping that Jay would return at any moment. She was accustomed to Will always forgetting her birthday and other important events related to her, anyway.
"It will be fun!" Will tried to persuade her.
At this point, Becca couldn't even muster a fake smile. As soon as she was left alone in the room, she buried her face in a pillow, muffling her scream of frustration.
It felt as though time had ceased to exist that afternoon, a strange and surreal feeling. Becca spent most of the time in a state of half-sleep, drifting in and out, as if she were trying to fast-forward through the day. She didn't want to be awake.
By the time she finally woke up for good, it was already dark outside. She realized she had slept for a long time and suddenly remembered Hailey. Her heart raced with worry, fearing she might have missed a visit from the detective. "No, no, no," she muttered, reaching for her phone in the drawer. She discovered three missed calls and a text from Detective Upton.
Something surged, I'm sorry
The tone of the text conveyed the urgency. She put her phone in the back pocket of her jeans, just in case Hailey called again, she didnât want to miss another call from Jay.
Leaving Mr. Snuggles behind, Becca ventured out of her dark room and was momentarily dazzled by the brightness of the rest of the house. The cold hit her immediately, and she shivered, regretting her choice of wearing only a light sweater over a tank top.
There were a lot of noises. The animated voices of cartoons emanated from the TV, Owen's plaintive cries echoed through the air, and Natalie's soothing reassurances cut through the clamor. Meanwhile, on the other side of the house, the clinking of plates, the splashing of water, and the rhythmic hiss of flames on the stove created a symphony of domestic activity. It smelled good.Â
Upon entering the kitchen, Becca found her brother, Will, busy at the stove.
"Pasta!" He exclaimed, snapping his fingers and pointing to his little sister. "You can eat that, right? You can't be allergic to pasta!"
A smile graced Becca's lips as she responded, "Yeah, I can eat pasta. That's actually what Jay makes whenever he's too lazy to cook... which is often." Their shared laughter infused the room with a comforting sense of camaraderie.
"Well, dinner's almost ready. I bet you're hungry."
"Yes, I actually am. And it smells delicious." Becca's gratitude was evident in her words, and Will's smile in return felt like a small victory, he finally made Becca feel good.
"What's wrong with Owen?"
"I don't know, he just doesn't want to sleep. We didn't take him to the park because of the rain, so it might be all of his pent-up energy."
"Oh." Just as they were discussing Owen's restlessness, the baby's cries subsided, and the volume of the cartoons from the TV surged. Becca turned to glance at the wall clock; it read 7:00 PM. It was still relatively early, and she realized she hadn't slept as long as she thought.
"It's freezing," Becca mentioned, crossing her arms to ward off the chill.
"Here," Will offered, taking off his own sweater. "I don't want you to get sick." It was evident that he wanted to ensure Becca remained in the room with him, not wanting to break the peaceful moment they were sharing.
"No, it's all good," Becca quickly responded. "I'll get one from my bag. I'll be right back."
The door of the room was open, but the girl didnât pay much attention to that detail. However, when she got in, she immediately noticed something amiss. The bed was empty. "Mr. Snuggles?" she thought, her heart sinking. She approached the bed, thinking she might have hidden the stuffed animal beneath the pillow, but her search yielded no trace of the beloved cat.
"Oh, no!" Panic gripped her, and she began frantically throwing pillows and blankets onto the floor, desperately searching for the missing plush companion.
âWILL! WILL!â, she screamed anxiously.
The redhead was at the door frame in an instant, a mixture of alarm and concern etched across his face.
"Wha--? What happened?" His own fear was palpable as they observed Becca, her tearful countenance and the disheveled state of the bed sheets. Quickly, he closed the distance and moved to her side.
âMr. Snuggles is not here, HEâS NOT ANYWHERE!â
Will was confused, he didnât understand what she was talking about.
âMy stuffed animal!â
âOh, the cat?â He finally realized. âDid you look well on the bed? Under?â
âWILL, IâM TELLING YOUââ
He could not understand why his sister was overeating that way, but he could feel her anxiety and exasperation.Â
He put a hand on her shoulder and continued with a soothing tone, "ok, ok, let's go. I'll help you find it".Â
Then, he proceeded to look under the bed, but there was no trace of the cat. "I don't know, Becca. Are you sure you leaved it in here? You didn't take it outside? Look, it's alright, tomorrow when we get out of the aquarium, we can go get a new one, I promise".Â
However, this offer only seemed to exacerbate Becca's distress. She started bawling, and Will could see the profound sadness in her eyes, even if he didn't fully comprehend the situation. All he could do was embrace her, but Becca remained unresponsive, not reciprocating the hug.
"It's okay, Becca. You'll get a new one, and it will be even better. That cat was already old." Will tried to console her, although he was still perplexed by the depth of her attachment to the lost stuffed cat.
Becca's tears flowed uncontrollably as her mind became a whirlwind of memories from that special birthday when she had received Mr. Snuggles. She could see her mother's warm and loving smile, and picture Jay's supportive presence as he helped her unwrap the gift box. Those recollections also brought back the bittersweet image of their father, sitting at the table, all of them sharing a birthday cake. But what weighed most heavily on Becca's mind was the recollection of her mother's gentle voice and the overwhelming fear that gripped her â the fear that she might forget her mother's comforting scent and her cherished appearance if she were to lose Mr. Snuggles. It was this fear, this painful possibility, that had driven her to such intense distress.
In her frustration, Becca pushed her brother away, her actions betraying the depth of her anguish. "You don't get it," she groaned. The rawness of her emotions was palpable, and it left a profound ache in Will's chest as he struggled to comprehend the intensity of her distress and find a way to comfort her.
In that moment, the sound of laughter echoed from the living room, and it was at that moment Becca pieced together what had likely transpired. With a sense of urgency, she darted out of the room, her brother following closely behind. There, in the living room, she found Mr. Snuggles in the firm grasp of Owen, who was gleefully swinging the stuffed cat from side to side, dancing to the music of his cartoons.
"Mr. Snuggles," Becca whispered in relief.
Natalie, seated on the sofa, turned to look at Becca, initially unaware of the distress that had gripped the girl.
"Oh," she remarked to Becca. "It was the only thing that could calm him down. I was walking him around the house, and he wandered into the guest room to find it. I told him we would borrow it from you."
Will's voice came from behind, breaking the tension. "Good that we found him," he sighed in relief. "You still have my word about the new stuffed animal, though." He reached out and hugged his sister by the shoulder, still puzzled by her intense reaction and concerned by the fact that she was still upset. He wished he could understand and help her better, but for now, all he could do was be there for her.
"Will, I--thank you," Becca whispered in a hushed tone, ensuring her words were only for her brother's ears. "But I don't need or want another one. I need Mr. Snuggles, and I can't let Owen have it, I really can't."
Will glanced at Owen playing with the black cat. He didn't initially see the issue, but the intensity of Becca's emotions was impossible to ignore. He furrowed his brow and returned his gaze to her, realizing that she was genuinely suffering. It was clear that the stuffed animal held immense significance for her.
"Okay, alright," he said gently, attempting to wipe away her tears.
"Owen, come here," Will knelt to be at the boy's level. "Buddy, this little cat here is already tired. It's time for him to go back to sleep." As he tried to take Mr. Snuggles from Owen's small hands, the boy became upset and clung tighter to the toy.
âWill, what are you doing?â Natalie intervened.
âBecca wants, needs her plush back, thatâs allâ.
âHeâs been restless for two hours, this thing is the only thing that has calmed himâ.
âYes, I know, but itâs not his, and we should have asked Becca first if we wanted to take itâ.
Becca felt a warmth in her heart as she watched her brother stand up for her in front of his girlfriend, something that had never happened before.Â
"Owen, pal, please," Will implored. He managed to gently take the stuffed animal from the boy's hands, but Owen's reaction was immediate â he started crying and throwing a tantrum.
Becca couldn't help but feel awful. She didn't want the baby to cry, and a wave of guilt washed over her for not letting him have Mr. Snuggles. But she just couldn't, if it were any other toy, she wouldn't have hesitated to lend it to him.
"Will!" Natalie scolded, and the cat went back into Owen's hands.
Will found himself in a difficult position, torn between wanting to please Becca and not fully comprehending the depth of her attachment to the toy.
"Becc, just lend it to him for a while. He'll get tired of it soon, you'll see."
Becca watched as Owen continued to play with Mr. Snuggles, her heart heavy with mixed emotions. She shuddered when she saw him putting one of the toy's ears into his mouth. The thought of her mother's scent slowly fading away from the cherished stuffed animal weighed heavily on her mind, making it even more difficult to let go.
âNo, I canâtâ
Will tried to stop her, but he didn't have the heart to do it.
"Owen, baby, I'm sorry, you need to give it back to me, please," Becca pleaded with a soft, gentle tone. However, Natalie intervened defensively.
"Becca, stop acting like this. It's just a toy, and he's just a kid."
Seizing the opportunity when Owen momentarily left the cat on the floor, Becca reached for it with a sense of relief. But at the same time, Natalie grasped it by the tail, and in the struggle to pull it towards herself, the stuffed animal tore in two.
Becca clutched the body of Mr. Snuggles in her arms, her eyes filled with horror as she stared at the torn tail on the floor. Her beloved companion had been torn apart, and she was left in shock, aghast at the sudden, painful loss.
"NO!" Becca's anguished scream pierced the air, sending shivers down Will's spine. Her cries escalated into a torrent of tears, her emotions a chaotic whirlwind of anger, sorrow, and anxiety. She felt trapped and overwhelmed, and all she wished for was to escape that painful moment.
"I wish I was dead too!" Becca's words, spoken with laboring breaths, were a heartbreaking cry for release. She bolted towards the front door in a desperate attempt to escape, but Will managed to reach her in time, pulling her into a hug from behind, trying to be gentle and cautious, afraid of hurting her in the process. His embrace was a lifeline, an attempt to anchor her and provide the support she desperately needed in that agonizing moment.
"Let me go! Leave me alone!" Becca's cries reverberated, her voice laced with anguish and despair. No one had ever witnessed her in such a state; she appeared as if she were possessed, kicking and hitting, doing everything in her power to break free from her brother's embrace, as if she were fighting against her own tormenting emotions.
"I can't. I can't let you go like this. I need you to calm down, sweetie. Calm down, Beccs, everything's okay," Will implored, his words filled with love and concern.
But those last words pierced her like a dagger to the heart. Nothing was okay; everything felt wrong. Her world was fractured. She no longer had her dad, her mom, or Jay. The only thing that still connected her to her mother had been damaged. She didn't have a home, and she couldn't find her place in this world. In her anguish, Becca acted without thinking, biting Will's arm to break free from his embrace, her pain manifesting in a desperate attempt to escape her overwhelming emotions.
âWill, she bit you. Do something!â Natalieâs accusations rumbled in her ears.
âNo, no. Itâs ok, Beccs. Itâs alrightâ, Will tried to calm his sister, whose little face looked frightened.
Everything happened so fast and Becca managed to break free and escape through the front door. She ran as fast as her legs could carry her, her vision blurred by tears, making it impossible to see clearly where she was headed.Â
Unheeding of Natalie's protests, Will chased after her, desperate to catch up.
"Becca! Becca, please!" His voice reached her ears, calling her name at a distance, but it grew fainter and fainter as she continued to run. "Becca!" She heard one last anguished cry, a long and agonized scream that filled the air with sorrow.
When she finally came to a halt, she was exhausted, her breathing labored. She looked around, but the surroundings were unfamiliar, and she couldn't identify the street or any nearby landmarks. She was lost, but returning the way she came wasn't an option, so she continued to walk, trying to find her bearings and make sense of her tumultuous emotions.
It was dark and cold, and she wasn't properly dressed, lacking a warm sweater. Her nose turned red, and her face and ears stung from the biting chill, but she didn't stop walking. She suddenly remembered she had her phone in her pocket and, without breaking her stride, she pulled it out. She dialed the number, but the call didn't connect; the number she called was turned off. Nonetheless, she decided to leave a message on the voicemail.
"J-Jay..."
Will was overwhelmed by fear, his mind racing with countless scenarios. He rushed back inside his home to retrieve his car keys, wasting no time, and then immediately returned to search for Becca. Determined to find his sister and make sure she was safe, he set out with a sense of urgency.
Meanwhile, Becca continued walking along a dimly lit street, too afraid to stop and ask for help. At this point, even if she wanted to, she couldn't return to Will's house, as she was unsure how to find her way back. Eventually, she came upon a bench in a park that seemed relatively safe, with a few children and their mothers nearby.
With trembling hands, she retrieved her phone from the back pocket of her jeans and called Hailey's number multiple times, but there was no answer. Frustrated and desperate, she decided to send a text:
Hailey, I need you. Please, call me
Becca quickly noticed a man approaching her, which instinctively made her stand up and call Hailey one last time.
"Hey, girl!" The man continued walking toward her at an accelerated pace. "Are you alone?"
Once more, there was no answer on the other side of the line. This time, however, Becca decided to speak to the voicemail. Her voice trembled and cracked as she cried out of fear, "Hailey! Hailey! I really need your help..."
The stranger was now just a few steps away from her and made a gesture as if he was trying to take her arm. In a panic, Becca screamed at him while still on the call, "No, get off!" She then began to run once again, desperate to escape the approaching stranger.
After several minutes of wandering around, shivering from the cold and filled with fear, unable to stop crying, Becca found herself standing beneath a well-lit area outside a small store where a steady flow of people passed by. She retrieved her phone once more, but her heart sank when she realized the battery was dead. Cursing her misfortune, she felt a touch on her shoulder and startled in fear.
"It's okay, honey," a woman's voice reassured her. "I'm not going to hurt you. Are you okay? Are you lost? Do you need help?"
However, Becca was now too paranoid and frightened to trust a stranger. She took a few steps back, her guard up.
"Okay, okay, don't go. Don't worry," the woman said, trying to be reassuring. "I'll call the police, and they'll help you get back home, okay? I'll stay here with you."
But as soon as the woman briefly took her eyes off the young girl, Becca seized the opportunity to slip away and disappear into the night.
"Did you find her?" Natalie inquired, even though it was only Will who returned to the car. He was overwhelmed, his stress and anxiety apparent as he sat on the entrance stairs, his elbows on his knees and his hands on his face. His girlfriend knelt beside him and rubbed his back in a soothing manner. "She'll be back soon."
"Are you sure? She's a 12-year-old girl wandering the streets alone at night. She's never been out alone!"
"She must be hiding somewhere, like in a game. She just wants to get your attention. Give her time."
Will couldn't bear the waiting any longer. "She's anxious, stressed, and sad. She was crying her eyes out. She must be frightened and cold right now. And it's all my fault," his voice quivered as he spoke. Will ran his hands over his face in frustration. "We should call the police," he suggested.
"What? No!"
"It's been three hours now!"
"If you call the police, Jay will find out about this!"
Determined, Will stood up. "He'll find out anyway."
Natalie continued to resist, "...and we'll have the entire Intelligence unit here. Is that what you want?"
"Actually, yes, Natalie. I want every cop in Chicago looking for my little sister, if that's possible!"Â
The 21st district was empty, the only sound filling the station was the echo of footsteps ascending the stairs. Jay was the first to enter the bullpen, followed by the rest of the Intelligence detectives and officers, all dressed in their tactical gear. He was the sole individual in plain clothes, and he looked thoroughly exhausted.
"Good job!" Voight patted Halstead on the back. "All of you. Now, go rest. The paperwork can wait until tomorrow. These punks aren't going anywhere." Before retreating to his office, the sergeant turned back to address Jay again. "Take a day off, you've earned it."
"Thanks, Sarge," Jay acknowledged.
"Alright, it's 10:40. Still time to head to Molly's to celebrate," Adam announced to the room. "First round's on me. Who's coming?"
They all accepted the invitation, including Hank from his desk.
"Jay, you coming?" Kevin inquired when he noticed Jay hesitating.
"No, I'll pass, guys. I'll just shower and go straight to pick up Becca. She must be losing her mind after a week with Will," he quipped with a smile. "If I hurry, I can still be the first one to wish her a happy birthday."

King of my Heart - Jay Halstead
Request: Hi! Can i request King Of My Heart with Jay Halstead?â€ïžÂ
A/N: I just really like the idea of Jay with like a firefighter s/o. I think I've written like two other fics with him and a firefighter s/o, pretend they're all interconnected lol.
TS Anthology Series | One Chicago Masterlist
...is this the end of all the endings?...
Dating with your schedule was not easy. Finding time to actually connect with people outside of work was next to impossible, especially since youâd taken on some paramedicine shifts for Sylvie on your days off from the Firehouse.
While you were trying not to rush into things or make any assumptions about whether dating was the correct term, youâd been spending a lot of time with Jay in recent weeks. Youâd volunteered to help at a city garden that Trudy helped organize and heâd been there too and youâd both sort of clicked (at least thatâs how you described it to Stella later on because you were too hesitant to admit that Jay had pretty much stuck to your side that whole day and asked you for drinks immediately after). Â
âI just donât wanna like...move too fast.â You explained, pulling your shirt over your head and fixing your hair, âlike, okay...what if itâs just supposed to be like a casual thing and I make it this big thing in my head that it isnât? Then I feel stupid and I can never show my face when heâs around.âÂ
âListen, if itâs casual, heâs the one who should feel stupid. Youâre a total catch,â Stella replied, always ready to be your cheerleader when you were feeling insecure about something. âYou are a total badass, youâre on Squad. You donât need some guy and heâs lucky youâre giving him the time of day.âÂ
âI wouldnât go that far.âÂ
âI would!â Stella insisted, âyou donât need him, donât feel like you need validation or something.âÂ
âI donât. Iâll admit Iâm okay single but, it is kinda nice having someone...I donât know, want to put in the effort after a long shift. I mean, itâs not like we have easy jobs.â You replied, grabbing your duffel from the bench and slinging it over your shoulder. âI guess I just want some clarification. Are we dating? Is he thinking this could be something more serious? Is he even looking for something more serious?âÂ
âAre you?â She deadpanned as you both made your way out of the locker room. Most of the other third shift had left already but Stella had hung back with you while you showered, mostly to listen to you have a mini-crisis over your budding relationship with Jay. Â
âI feel like I could be.â You shrugged, âthat sounds stupid but like, sometimes I just look at him and think like, yeah I could do this every day of my life. Thatâs really fucking scary Stella...like...âÂ
You trailed off as you made it out onto the driveway and saw Jayâs pickup parked out front. He was standing there on the passenger side, leaning against the truck and when he saw you he smiled. Stella nudged your ribs playfully before giving you a silent wave goodbye and heading to her car. Â
âHey,â you called out as you got closer, âdonât you have work?â Â
âCaught a double yesterday, just got off like an hour ago.â Jay replied, âFigured if you donât have plans this morning you might wanna get breakfast?â Â
âOh my god yes, Iâm starving,â you said, letting Jay take the bag off your shoulder and toss it in the back of his truck. âHerrmann has a new candidate and he offered to make dinner last night-â you shuddered and Jay laughed.Â
âThat bad?âÂ
âTerrible! And we ended up getting a call anyway so basically...no dinner.âÂ
Jay shot you a sympathetic look over middle console, âShit baby, Iâm sorry.âÂ
You felt yourself warm up at the sound of him calling you baby. You werenât much for pet names but somehow hearing the word out of Jayâs mouth squashed all the worries youâd been keeping close to your chest. Â
-Â
âJay!â You whispered, trying not to laugh and draw anyoneâs attention, though most everyone in the house was asleep at this hour. Aside from Herrmann who had gotten stuck on night shift and was currently trying to keep his eyes open to reruns of Lets Make a Deal in the common room. He had ears like a hawk though and you knew heâd come snooping if he heard commotion. âWeâre gonna get in trouble.âÂ
Jay smiled against your neck, placing another kiss there before responding, âI donât work here so technically...âÂ
âWell donât get me in trouble then!â You replied, unable to stop a laugh from escaping this time as you bumped into the washing machine. Â
It was nearly one in the morning when Jay had shown up at the firehouse, texting you and telling you to let him in the back door. Heâd just gotten off work and you still had six more hours on shift but it was officially your six month anniversary and he was surprisingly sentimental. Although you werenât sure that making out in the laundry room like two horny teenagers was exactly sentimental. Â
You didnât get much time to consider anything at all because the siren went off, the overhead voice alerting the firehouse, âTruck 81, Engine 51, Squad 3, Ambulance 61.âÂ
âI have to go,â you insisted, pulling away, âJay, I have to go.â Â
âI know, I know.â He let go of you, stepping away so you could head out to the apparatus. He followed behind you, careful to stay out of the way, stopping at the Squad table.Â
âI knew I heard something!â Herrmann laughed, walking through the double doors with Ritter, âSneaking around the firehouse like a couple a kids!â Â
You did your best to ignore Herrmann as you geared up, stealing one more kiss from Jay, âIâll see you after shift?âÂ
âYeah, Iâll pick you up.âÂ
âGet in the rig lovebird!â Tony called out the window and you rolled your eyes before climbing up into the back with him and Capp. Â
You couldnât resist a last glance out the window as you pulled out into the street, Jay standing there with his hands in his pockets, watching you and grinning. By the time you got to the fire, youâd be clear headed and ready to work but until then, youâd let yourself be a little lovestruck. Â

JAY HALSTEAD MASTERLIST
You glanced at the last message Jay had sent you a few hours earlier and smiled.
You got this.
Three simple words that somehow warmed your heart even though you were miles away in another city.
You rarely had to travel for work even though youâd worked as a translator at this company for some time. You mostly dealt with inbound foreign clients who came to Chicago but this time, theyâd needed a translator for a conference outside Chicago and you were the only available one. Thankfully, it wasnât too far so you didnât even have to take a flight and the company had arranged for a car for you to get there.
Which was all too well, since Jay had also had his hands full and had to go undercover for a few days.
So it was even more heartwarming to see the message from Jay when you hadnât really been expecting a reply.
Even though you had only seen the message after the conference, it still felt comforting to feel the last dredges of work nerves and anxiety leave your system.
âY/N, come on.â One of your colleagues from another team called out to you and you stuffed your phone back into your pocket, before following her toward the private room of the restaurant where you were all supposed to be having dinner with a huge client.
You didnât even like having social dinners with people you werenât close with, not to mention dinners like this.
Dinner had barely started when you were proven right.
âThanks to your team, the conference went very well.â The client smiled, looking around. âOf course, we have to thank Y/N for ensuring all communication went smoothly.â
Youâd just smiled when you felt his hand slide onto yours from under the table and the smile froze on your face.
Instinctively, you pulled your hand away, bringing your hand up to tuck a strand of hair behind your ear and grabbing your jacket from behind you and draping it around you, smiling.
âJust doing my job, Mr. Saunders.â
You saw the look on his face and knew heâd taken offense, ridiculous as it was.
You chose to ignore it, pretending like nothing had happened. After all, heâd probably have gotten the hint.
He hadnât.
The client made a few more passes at you - a hand on your knee, trying to take your hand again, and the most outrageous one was holding up food to feed you in front of everyone.
The action wasnât lost on everyone who was there but no one spoke up.
You swallowed. âIâll help myself.â
It was like something snapped in him and he glanced at you coldly and said, âGuess if youâre not hungry, you should go out and wait for everyone to finish.â
You glanced helplessly at your team manager who gave you a look to ask you not to make things worse than they already were.
You gritted your teeth but bit back any sort of response, getting up and leaving the room, a mix of anxiety, humiliation, self-doubt, and every other negative emotion swirling in the pit of your stomach.
Jay sighed, stretching as he sat up from the couch.
The apartment was uncharacteristically quiet since you were away for work.
Jay looked up at the clock. It was slightly past 10 which was weird because he hadnât heard back from you.
Getting up to get himself a glass of water, Jay glanced at his messages before he decided heâd try and call. Even if you were still with your colleagues, you could probably still answer the phone since the conference was over.
There were two rings before you answered.
âHey, still having fun with your colleagues?â
There was a slight pause before you answered.
âJay.â
Jay frowned, immediately picking up on the fact that something was wrong.
âY/N? Whatâs going on? You okay?â
Jayâs voice was gentle and so comforting, you felt the prick of tears again.
You cleared your throat. Honestly, crying on the street in the middle of the night was the last thing you wanted to do. âYeah, Iâm fine.â
âHave you eaten?â Jayâs worried voice sounded through the phone.
You smiled to yourself even as a tear escaped and slid down your cheek.
âYeah, told you there was good food waiting for me after the conference.â
âY/N, whatâs wrong?â Jay pressed.
You shook your head even though he couldnât see you. âIâm fine. I just⊠miss you.â You managed to keep your voice steady.
âIâll come and get you,â Jay answered.
âJay, itâs late and you probably havenât had enough sleep for the past few days. Iâll take the earliest bus out to Chicago tomorrow.â
You heard the reluctance in his voice even though he agreed and after reassuring him not to worry, you hung up.
The wind felt even colder now as you sat by the side of the road, your carrier bag sitting next to you.
Technically you had another night at the hotel but you hadnât felt like staying there for even a second longer. Other than the fact that the client knew exactly which room you were in, your team manager had left a message for you berating you for how youâd handled the situation which made you even more disgusted than you already were.
You didnât know how long you sat there but as you felt it turn colder you thought you should get up and maybe find somewhere else to sit for the night. You didnât care if you had to sit up all night at a 24-hour cafe but you werenât going back to the hotel.
Youâd barely gotten to your feet, reaching for your carrier when a familiar truck pulled up right before you.
You froze, as Jay appeared right before you like magic.
âJay⊠youâŠâ
Jayâs green eyes appeared even brighter than usual as he looked at you with a mix of exasperation and worry. âI came to take you home.â
Youâd clearly been sitting out here for longer than you thought, but it didn't matter because when Jay finished speaking you felt the tears well up in your eyes as the security that Jay always made you feel flooded through your entire body and finally gave you enough courage to cry.
Jay stepped forward, wordlessly enveloping you into his arms.
You dissolved into sobs as you felt his arms around you and he pressed you gently into his embrace, his hand over the back of your head protectively. Jay didnât say anything, just standing there quietly with you in his arms until your sobs gently died down.
"IâŠâ
Jay pressed his lips against your temple and whispered, âLetâs go home.â
Jay didnât ask you anything on the way home, and you must have fallen asleep because the next thing you knew Jay was pulling into the parking lot in front of your building and your stomach gave a tiny rumble as Jay killed the engine.
You glanced at him and Jay just let out a chuckle.
âCome on, Iâll order us a pizza and you can get comfortable.â
By the time you got out of the shower, the pizza was here and you got comfortable on the sofa as Jay handed you a slice and curled in next to you.
You didnât say anything and Jay didnât push you as you finished your first slice before you glanced up at him.
âIâm sorry.â You said in a low voice.
Jay raised an eyebrow.
âYou must be exhausted.â You added.
There was a silence which made you look up and you felt the rare surge of insecurity from not being able to read the look on Jayâs face.
âDid you think Iâd be able to go to sleep when I could hear how upset you were?â Jay said quietly. âY/N, listen. You donât have to worry about asking me to go out of my way for you. In fact, if it was possible, I hope youâd always do it. Iâd go to the moon and back for you if you needed me to.â
You felt the tears well up in your eyes again, this time from an overwhelming feeling of being loved by someone.
Jay just quietly pressed his lips against your temple.
You leaned into him, the rest of the pizza slices forgotten on the table.
âWill you tell me what happened?â
You bit your lip, sitting up a little before you recounted what had happened that night as vaguely as possible, with bare details.
Even so, you could literally hear Jay grinding his teeth beside you.
You glanced at him. âJay.â
âIâll kill him. I will literally break his hands.â
You snuggled back into his side. âNo, you wonât.â You mumbled. âBut I needed to hear that.â
Jay sighed and pulled you tighter against him. âYou did the right thing, you know that right? No matter what anyone says.â
You nodded without looking up and Jay patted the back of your head gently, ruffling your hair gently in the process.
You leaned deeper into Jayâs embrace before turning your head up gently to glance at him.
Jay smiled and leaned down to press his lips gently against yours. The negative feelings of the entire night were long gone because you were right where you belonged - home with Jay.
THANK YOU FOR READING!! PLEASE TELL ME WHAT YOU THOUGHT OF THIS!!

Hello love, how is everything going?đ«
I'm the one from the Jay in the truck fic, which was amazing, you made someone very happy today (someone is me)đđ©·
If you have time you could write one where Jay dates the reader but he is a few years younger than him, but he's so proud to have met a girl like her, maybe someone on the team makes playful comments about it because he is tough in part but it is as if he was always so soft with her that they come to not know him. maybe they even see a couple of hickeys on him but he looks proud because he is LITERALLY so in love that he kisses the ground where she steps and he loves that they know he has a girl, a little pretentious about itđ€
Maybe also after a difficult case he looks for her because she is his safe space.đ«¶đŒđ„č
This is a bit messy but I'm not good at putting ideas together, I apologize, also english is not my first language in case this is something difficult to understand.đ„čđ«¶đŒ
Also sorry that there are so many haha you can take them if you want or just let them pass if you don't feel comfortable, sending you love!đ

Jay couldn't believe his luck, in all honesty.
Ever since he could remember, his luck when it came to love and personal relationships was close to being non-existent. His relationship history was excellent proof of that.
But everything seemed to change for the better when he met you.
You had met in a bar, out of all places. Hit it off right away, chatted over a drink, promised to stay in touch.
And oh boy, had you stayed in touch.
You were wary of hanging out with Jay at first, mainly because of the dangers of his job (that he sometimes reminded you of) and because of the age difference.
5 years was not that much, if you were being realistic, but it was still something. You were afraid that you wouldnât be the woman he was looking for, maybe his expectations in life didnât align with yours.
Thankfully, you were very wrong about that.
And so, you found yourself together, 1 year later, happier and more in love than ever. Much to the joy of his team, who made it their mission to tease the fuck out of Jay every single day at the precinct.
Especially when they would notice certain marks on his neck after a wild night in bed.
Such an instance was right after the team had finished a very hard case involving a child kidnapping. When Jay got home, you could tell he was absolutely hammered and needed to unwind, so you did the thing you knew would help him out.
The next morning at the precinct, you went with him to say hi to the team, but you got teased instead.
âWoah, did an animal attack you last night?â Adam asked Jay as soon as he got a good look at his colleague.
Jay furrowed his eyebrows, while you were trying to hide your blush in his bicep.
"What are you talking about?" he asked, checking his arms for any kind of marks.
Adam smirked and pointed to his neck, which immediately made your boyfriend realize what he was talking about.
Even though you couldnât see it because you were hiding your face into his arm, you could tell Jay was blushing furiously while being teased by his close friend.
âDonât you dare say a wordâ Jay threatened Adam, who could only laugh at the situation between the two of you.
âIâm gonna go nowâ you murmured to Jay, quickly standing on your tiptoes to peck his cheek before basically running out of the precinct.
Jay could only blame Adam for your quick departure, much faster than what he had been hoping.
âShe certainly keeps you activeâ Ruzek said once he came back from their break room with a cup of coffee.
âShut up, Ruz. Youâre just jealous youâre not getting anyâ Jay commented, making Adam act offended.
"I'm just saying, she's sure keeping you busy and fit" Adam continued, giving Jay a sly smile.
"She makes me happy" Jay confessed, smiling to himself when he thought about you and your relationship.
The conversation died with that, a new case putting a pause on Jay's thoughts about you for the time being.
Jay hadn't expected the case to be as rough as it was, and he felt awful by the time he got home to you. He was tired, his limbs were sore and his heart ached. The only thing he wanted in that moment was the sole comfort of your presence, your comforting hugs and just quality time spent away from his job.
When you heard the keys in the lock, you excitedly ran to the front door to welcome him, but your smile was instantly wiped off your face when you saw just how broken and tired he was.
"Rough day?" you asked as you cautiously watched him taking off his shoes and hanging his coat on the hanger.
"Yeah, got a tough care after you came home" he sighed, pressing a kiss to the top of your head before going into the bedroom, placing his gun and badge into his safe before coming back out and joining you on the couch.
He melted into the soft couch, his hand finding yours instantly. You felt for him, not even wanting to imagine how tough his job must get on the hard days, like this one.
You moved Jay's head off the back of the couch and maneuvered him until he was resting his head into your lap, your fingers softly running through his soft hair.
"You want to talk about it?" you asked softly, careful not to disturb the serene atmosphere that had settled between the two of you.
His eyes opened and looked at you, dozens of emotions swimming behind his irises. The only thoughts that occupied his head were how lucky he was to have you, how cared for he was and how much he loved you. He cherished you more than you could ever know, especially in moments like this one, when he is reminded of just how grateful he should be for the life he has.
"I love you" he whispered softly, making you smile at him and lean down to peck his lips, your free hand caressing the side of his face softly.
"I love you more" you whispered back, licking your lips.
And so, the entire evening was spent exactly like that, whispering love confessions to each other like they were a secret to the entire world.
But you loved every second of it.

Lost (A Halstead Brothers + Halstead Sister Imagine)
"What do you want?" you asked Jay as you held his hand while you walked into the mall the weekend before Christmas.
He smiled and quickly looked down at you. "I told you. You can get me whatever you think I'd like. I'm not picky."
"I know that, Jay Jay," you huffed. "But Will telled me you need to be spec-spec...Will, what's that word again?"
"Specific," he offered.
"Yeah. That. He telled me you need to do that because we gotta know what store to go to."
"What do you want to get me?" Jay asked.
"I dunno! That's why you gotta tell me!"
"Okay, okay, calm down," Jay said as the three of you walked into the mall. "How about some new gloves?"
"That's a good idea! Hailey always says you need new ones!"
"She does, doesn't she?"
"Yeah!"
"So, me and you will go get Will's gift and then we'll get a snack and switch, okay?"
"Okay!"
Then, you and Jay started off toward the center of the mall to the sports store to get Will the Blackhawks winter hat he wanted while Will went the opposite way to meet up with Hailey and start knocking the last-minute gifts off your list to Santa.
***
An hour later, you had Will's hat and Jay, well Jay had some last-minute stocking stuffer ideas from you, and you all had eaten soft pretzels with cheese from Auntie Anne's. Now, it was time to go get Jay's gift. And, unbeknownst to you, Jay had told Will to stall because he and Hailey needed to run across the street to get your Build-A-Bear clothes that they had ordered online last week and then get your new bike from Toys R Us.Â
"I think we should get Jay two things," Will suggested.
"Why?" you asked. You had only gotten Will one thing. You couldn't get Jay two because that wouldn't be fair!
"Because there's that fun food store and I think he'd like some weird potato chips."
"But you didn't get two presents! So, Jay Jay can't get two! That's mean to you!"
Will smiled and then steered you towards the center of the aisle to the seating area. Once there, he crouched down to your level. "And that's so nice that you're thinking like that, kiddo! But, I think he'd like some fun chips."
"But you like the pickle ones!"
"That's right. How about you get me the pickle ones, too then?"
"But then you'll know what I got you!"
"I'll forget by then."
You scrunched your eyebrows. Christmas was in four days! Will couldn't forget that fast, could he? But, they never lied to you. So, maybe he would.
"You promise you forget?"
"I promise."
"And we give them back to Jay Jay later so he help me wrap?"
"And we can give them to Jay later so he can help you wrap them, yes," Will confirmed.
"Okay! Let's go get the chippies!"
Will laughed and then looked around. It was starting to get later and more people were coming into the mall because they were getting off work.
"Hold my hand when we walk there because it's getting busier, okay?"
"Okay!"
Then, you grabbed Will's hand and went over to the store that housed all the candy, chips, popcorn, and all of the other fun foods.
You quickly found the dill pickle potato chips that Will liked but were stumped on what type of chips to get for Jay.
You scrunched up your eyebrows again, deep in thought. "I dunno what to get Jay!"
"Hmmm, what if we look at the popcorn? See if they have anything spicy. He likes that."
"Is that the thing that makes my tongue all tingly that I had to drink milk after?"
Will smiled and held back a laugh at your description. "Yes, that's the one."
"We should get him one with lots and lots and lots and lots of spicy!"
"Okay, super duper spicy popcorn for Jay comin' right up!" Will's phone then buzzed in his pocket. He pulled it out and saw that Jay had texted him to pick up some candy for your stocking. "Hey, kiddo? How about you go over there and pick out all of your favorite candy so that Santa knows what to bring you."
"But how will Santa know if I didn't write it on my list?"
"Well, you can bring it over to me and--" he lowered his voice and crouched down to your level. "Between you and me, I know Santa's phone number."
Your eyes widened. "You talk to Santa?"
"I do. So, you show me all the candies you want and then I'll write them down and then tell Santa. Then, he'll bring you some."
You quickly nodded, still in awe. Your big brother talked to Santa!
Then, you ran across the store to begin picking out all of your favorite candy!
***
About five minutes later, you were almost done making your selections, when you saw someone out of the corner of your eye.
You gasped. Will was leaving the store without you!
You quickly put your candy back on the shelf and then hustled out of the store and kept following your big brother, but boy, did he walk fast!
"Will!" you shouted when you were two stores away from the candy and snack store. He didn't turn around, so you tried again.
Nothing.
You huffed and stomped your feet in annoyance.
"Will!" What was it that Jay called Will when he was mad? Then, it came to you. "William!"
Still nothing!
You kept following him and running almost as fast as you could. Then, he turned into another store and so did you.
He was slowing down and you were catching up to him. Will really needed to slow down! And what about the chips? And telling Santa about the candy? You needed to make sure he'd still talk to Santa and--
He turned around and you gasped.
That wasn't Will!
***
Will furrowed his eyebrows as he walked over to the candy section holding a bag of ghost pepper and jalapeno popcorn for Jay and a bag of dill pickle potato chips for himself...which he'd conveniently "forget" about in four days. He didn't see you here and you knew not to leave anywhere without him or another trusted adult.
"Y/N," he said. "Y/N!" he tried again, this time louder.
His heart began to race. You had to be in the store still. You had to. You knew not to leave without an adult. It was drilled into your head. And, you wouldn't do that on a normal day, much less this close to Christmas when Santa was watching you even closer than before. And, if Will lost you, well, Jay would then commit murder...and he wouldn't care if it was Christmas.
"Y/N!" he tried again and continued to run around the store.
Once he went around twice, he had to concede.
You weren't here.
He quickly made his way to the counter and pushed past all of the current customers.
"Sir, you need to go to theâ"
"Listen, I'm sorry for cutting in line, but I'm not buying anything right now. My sister was just in here with me and she's not here. This is her." He pulled up the most recent photo of you on his phone. "Did you see where she went?"
"I'm- I'm sorry," the salesgirl stammered. "I had to run to the back to get some orders and my coworker was on break andâ"
"It's okay, that's okay. My name's Will, Will Halstead. Do you have a piece of paper? I can write my number down and if you see her or she comes back here, you call me." She slid Will a piece of paper and he wrote down his phone number. "I'm going to security now. Her name's Y/N Halstead. My brother's name is Jay and he's a cop. He might come in here, too and uh- uhâ"
"Mr. Halstead, take a breath. Go look for her and go to security. I'll call you if there's anything."
"Thank you!"
Then, he sprinted out of the store.
***
"Do think she wants purple or pink for her bike?" Jay asked as he stood in Toys R Us.
"Hmmm, how about a purple bike and pink helmet," Hailey suggested.
"I like your thinking, Hails. I like your thinking. I'll go grab a worker to get the bike down and then weâ" His phone ringing cut him off. "It's Will. They're probably done and I'm gonna have to figure out another stall tactic for at least thirty minutes." Then, he slid open his phone to answer the call. "Yeah, Wâ"
"Listen, I don't- I don't know where Y/N is," he answered, trying to remain calm even though everything in his body and brain were screaming at him to panic.
Jay froze. "What? What do you mean you don't know where she is? She's with you."
"She was supposed to be! I was having her look for some candy while I found your last gift and then I turned around and she wasn't there andâ"
"Okay, okay, stay calm. What did you do next?"
"I went up to the girl at the counter of the store, showed her a picture of Y/N, left her my number, explained the situation, and told her to call me if she saw her."
"Okay, that's a start. Me and Hailey are on our way. Just start looking and call me if you find her."
"Yeah, yeah, I will."
"We gotta go," Jay said when he ended the phone call and started speed walking towards the exit of the store.
"Jay, what's wrong? What's goingâ"
"Will lost Y/N!"
"Shit. Let's go."
Then, the two took off running.
***
No, no, no, no, no.
There were too many people and you couldn't see above all of these people's heads and you didn't know where Will or Jay were. What did you do now?
Hot tears began to stream down your face as you walked out of the store you were previously in. Then, you turned. Did you come from that way? Or was it the other way?
Then, you heard Jay's voice in your head.
If you're lost, stay where you are and we'll find you. But if you see a police officer, you talk to them.
You stood there and frantically looked around.
Then, you saw them. Two officers with the blue shirts and the hats that Jay and Hailey had to wear sometimes.
Then, you took off before you lost sight of them.
You skidded to a stop in front of them.
"Can you help me?" you quickly cried when you were within earshot of them.
The lady cop quickly took in your tear-stained face and crouched down to your level.
"Help you with what, sweetheart? Where are your parents?"
"My- my brothers."
"Okay. Where are your brothers?"
"I dunno. I thought Will left the store but then it wasn't Will and Jay told me to stay where I was unless I saw a police off-cer because he's one andâ"
"Honey, hey, hey, it's okay. We'll find them. What's your name?"
"Y/N Halstead."
"Okay, Y/N. I'm Officer Raven and behind me is my partner, Officer Brown. Now, what are your brothers' names?"
"Will Halstead and Jay Halstead."
"Okay. And, you said one's a police officer like us, right?" You quickly nodded. "Do you know one of their phone numbers?"
You nodded and quickly rattled off Jay's phone number.
But, when the officer called the number, it said that this number had been disconnected.
"Y/N, he didn't answer. Do you know another phone number?"
At this, you began to cry harder. Will had taught you his number, but you were so scared it was all getting jumbled up in your head!
"I don't 'member!" you cried.
"Okay, that's okay. You said Jay's a police officer, so do you know his badge number?" She pointed to her own badge. "It's the number that's on here. Or, do you know who he works with?"
"Jay Jay works with Hank- Hank Voight," you said. Then, you remembered multiple times at the district where Jay would quiz you on his badge number. He said if anything happened and you couldn't remember anything, just to know his name and his badge number. "Jay Halstead. Badge 5..1..1..6..." you furrowed your eyebrows as you tried to pull out the last number from memory. "3."
"Jay Halstead, badge number 5-1-1-6-3?" Officer Raven asked.
"Yes! That's my brother."
"And he works with Hank Voight?"
"Uh-huh."
"Brown, know a Sergeant Hank Voight? Any chance you know his district?"
"Voight's district is the 21st. One of the most infamous sergeants. You're lucky you haven't come across him. I'll call it in." He picked up his radio. "Dispatch, patch me into the 21st."
"Copy."
"21st district. This is Sergeant Platt."
"Trudy!" you exclaimed. "I know her!"
"You know her?" You nodded. "Good!" Officer Brown said to you. Then, when he spoke again, it was into his radio. "Sergeant Platt, this is Officer Trevor Brown, badge number 1-3-5-7-8. I'm here with Y/N Halstead. She said her brother is Jay Halstead, badge number 5-1-1-6-3. We tried to call him but that number was disconnected. Do you have another number for him?"
"Halstead, huh? Let me talk to Y/N and then I'll give you the number."
The officer knew this wasn't protocol, but who was he to tell the desk sergeant no?
"She wants to talk to you, Y/N." Then, he bent down to allow you to talk into your radio.
"Trudy!" you exclaimed. "I was shoppin' with Will and Jay and- and then I thought Will left the store but then it wasn't him and- and then Jay Jay not answerin' and then I finded the off-cers like Jay Jay telled me and--"
"Hey, Y/N," she cut you off. "It's okay. You did really good telling the officers Jay's badge number. I'm gonna give him a call and he'll come to you, okay? I need to talk to the officers again now, alright? You did such a good job."
"Thank you, Trudy!"
"Sorry about that," Trudy apologized to Officer Brown a moment later. "We had a case where the criminals found some personal phone numbers and they had to be changed, which is why the number is disconnected. Tell me where you are in the mall and I'll give Halstead a call right away."
He told Trudy where exactly in the mall you were and then told you that she'd call him and your brother would be on your way.Â
***
"Trudy, I'm a little busy right now. Y/N's missing and we're at the mall looking for her and--"
"Halstead, she found two officers and she's in front of Williams and Soma."
"She-- You found her?"
"She found officers and said your badge number and everything. Williams and Soma, Halstead. Go there. And next time, keep an eye on her."
"I wasn't watching her, it was Will."
"Don't care who it is. Watch her next time."
Then, she hung up the phone and Jay almost fell over in relief.Â
"They found her, Hails." He quickly told her the store and what Trudy had told him and they started walking over there when she quickly stopped.Â
"I can't go over there, Jay. She doesn't know I'm here and then she'll ask questions."
"Shit," Jay muttered. "You do have a point."
"I know. I'm gonna go get the bike and helmet and I'll meet you at home. Love you, babe."
"Love you, too."
Then, Jay quickly called Will and told him where you were.
***
The minute Jay saw you, he sprinted over to you.Â
"Jay Jay!" you exclaimed and closed the distance between the two of you.Â
"Y/N! Hey, you're okay, hey." He was about to sink to his knees when he remembered protocol. "I have to show this nice officer my ID real quick, okay?"
"Y/N!"
"Will!
He picked you up as soon as he got to you and hugged you tight.Â
"I'm sorry!" you cried. "I thinked someone was you and it wasn't and then--"
"It's okay," Will quickly reassured. "You're safe and that's all that matters. Now, I need to show these officers my ID just like Jay Jay did really quick, okay?"
Then, he passed you over to Jay.
"I'm sorry, Jay Jay," you muttered as you buried your head in his chest.
"It's okay, kiddo. It's okay. You did so good by telling the officers my badge number. Now, what do you say we go look at the candy again?"
You gasped. "Will said he has Santa's phone number! And that's why we gotta go look at the candy! Do you know his number, too?"
"I sure do. And, after today, I am going to tell Santa that you are most definitely on the nice list."
You gasped. "Really?"
"Really."
"And, we are also going to work on you remembering my phone number and Jay's new one. But, that can wait until after Christmas I think," Will added.Â
You gasped again. "I'm getting presents there! Jay Jay, Will said he will forget, but will you?"
"Tell you what," Jay began, "me and you will look at the candy so I know what to tell Santa, and Will can grab the presents, sound good to you?"
"Uh-huh," you agreed.
Then, Jay set you down, thanked the officers again, and you three made your way to the candy and snacks store.Â
You and Jay made a beeline for the candy while Will talked with the salesgirl. He said they found you and thanked her for keeping an eye out.Â
And, well, if on Christmas morning you found all ten candies you picked out with Jay instead of the original 5-7 in your stocking like Will and Jay planned, well, it was just because your brothers told Santa that you were extra good and extra, extra brave this year.Â
A/N: Merry Christmas! I know this one was short, but I had an idea for this the other day and wanted to get it out! I hope you enjoyed it! Also, don't forget to reblog and comment!

Maybe We Could Do It Again
Pairing: Jay Halstead x Reader
Word count: 4,632
Warnings: bickering and fluff.
Summary: Jay meets the Reader as theyâre both babysitting Makayla for Adam and Kim and they end up tangled up on the ground and kissing.
Disclaimer: I donât own any of the One Chicago shows, or its characters, also not associated with it in any way, or know anyone involved with it.
A/N: Okay, so this is one of the longest fics Iâve written, which might be a little too long but I hope you guys like it and feel free to send feedback! By the way, this is the first time I insert Burzek in one of my fics but I think I got their energy right ;)
(y/n) = (your name) (y/l/n) = (your last name) (y/n/n) = (your nickname)
| masterlist |
âOh my God, Adam! I canât believe that even when youâre not supposed to do something you get it wrong!â Kim yelled at her boyfriend.
âWhat the hell-â He even tried to respond but got immediately interrupted for his bad language.
âAdam!â She hissed again, not believing how he could still curse so much now that the two of them had a child in the house.
âSorry, sorry!â He said, nervously raising his hands, as Kim already peeked through the kitchen doors to see Jay and Makayla pretend like they hadnât been listening to every word of their conversation in the living room. âItâs just⊠I remember you specifically telling me to find someone to babysit the kid, so I did it! How is it possible that Iâm the one who-â
âYes! I did ask you two to do that! On Monday! And do you remember what you told me?â He didnât dare to say anything. âOh, no? Because I do! I remember you saying, and I quote:â she said, even making finger quotes to emphasize the whole thing, ââWhere the hell am I supposed to find a babysitter for Makayla? None of my friends have any experience with kids!ââ Kim shoved it in his face, making a very good point for herself. But, as usual, Adam decided to go against any sign of good judgment and continue to defend himself. He knew he could never let Kim in on it, but Jay himself was one of those who had already heard the officer saying how much he loved bickering with his girlfriend and getting her all fired up against him.
âNo, uh! That wonât cut it! You told me, and I quote: âThen hire someone! I donât know! But youâre the one who came up with the date night idea, so donât come and throw something that should be your responsibility on my shoulders!â, so I knew that I needed to find someone! Kev and Vanessa are visiting his siblings this weekend, so I thought: why not Jay? Heâs good with kids, and he offered to help us with Makayla!â Adam concluded, absolutely proud of himself while Kim just rolled her eyes.
âOh. My. God!!! You do know he didnât mean that literally, donât you?â She was already fuming by that point.
âErr-â He had to admit that heâd never stopped to think about that possibilityâŠ
âNo one means that literally!!â She shouted, this time, making even the neighbors hear their arguing. âNo one means that literally, and, now, youâre just making us both look like the cops who canât take care of their own kid in front of the entire unit.â She stated, in a lower, tone while pinching the bridge of her nose.
âBut this is not the entire unit! This is Jay! Our friend Jay, who had offered!â Adam stood by that argument and Kim had already opened her mouth to shoot a remark back when Jay came into the kitchen.
âMakaylaâs distracted with the tv.â He started with that so that they wouldnât be worried. âUh... Guys, Kim, you donât have to worry about me telling anyone about this, okay? I wonât. Besides, I did mean what I said before. Iâm here to help. Whatever you guys need. Plus, for someone who had plans of watching a game rerun alone at home on a Friday night, babysitting that cute little girl is almost like hitting a jackpot!â Jay assured, giving them a small smile and shiny eyes headed towards Makaylaâs direction. Babysitting a kid, when he was probably never gonna have one of his own, was one of the things that he, personally, missed the most about when Will and Natalie were together. Back when Lindsay lived in Chicago, he used to be sure that, someday, he was gonna find someone. Settle down. Build a family. But, now⊠After everything that had happened, he couldnât help but feel like his time to do all that had run out. So, instead of mooning over it, he could gladly babysit Makayla.
âWell, um, thank you, Jay,â Kim started, nervously tucking a string of hair behind her ear, âthatâs really nice to hear. And we very much appreciate it. But-â She didnât get a chance to finish as the doorbell rang and Adam rushed towards the apartmentâs entrance to prevent his very excited little girl from opening the door by herself. When he got there, followed by the other two adults, Makayla was already standing on her tiptoes, hand-in-handle.
âHey! Watcha doing, you little adventurous?!â Adam asked while picking her up from the floor and tickling her sides, which made her become a giggling mess. âYou canât just open the door like that, darlinâ! You gotta check on the peephole first,â he said, as he lifted her up enough so that she could look through the hole, âlike this. See someone?â
âYes! Itâs (y/n/n)!â She squealed out. âCan we open the door now? Please, Adam?â Makayla asked, shooting him pleading eyes, while her body buzzed with happiness.
âAh, (y/n/n), right,â Adam said simply, opening the door and fearing that Kim would want to restart the whole discussion with him.
âHey, princess!â And that simple greeting was all it took for Makayla to throw herself from Adamâs arms straight to yours. âWow,â you laughed at her sudden movement, which had caused you to lose your balance a little, âyou excited to see me?â
âYes!! Did you bring the bakings???â She asked you eagerly, bakings being what she called your cooking utensils.
âNo, not today!â Your answer made her face, almost immediately, turn into a sad frown. âBut I brought this!â You told her while lifting up a box that read âkaraoke setâ, above a few drawings of a microphone and musical notes. Seeing that, Makaylaâs saddened expression shifted in two seconds, eyes lighting up.
âLook, Kim!â The little girl shrieked, more than ready to have what she already knew was about to be the time of her life.
âYeah, I see that! Seems like you girls are gonna have a blastâŠâ Your friend weirdly trailed off, as her mind tried to find a quick solution to the mess her boyfriend had made.
âUhâŠâ Was all that a very handsome man you hadnât met yet managed to let out.
âJay, um, this is my best friend (y/n). (y/n/n), this is our friend from work Jay. Iâm sorry about the mess, guys, itâs Adamâs fault.â Kim spoke again, bluntly accusing her boyfriend.
âMy fault??? Are you kidding??? You told me to find someone to watch Makayla 'cause you didnât want us to keep bothering (y/n)!â
âGuys! Itâs no bother at all, really. Hanging out with this little princess is in my best interest, believe me!â You said, quickly defending your case.
âWell, thanks for saying that, (y/n/n). What happened here is that Adam told me he wouldnât be able to get anyone,â Kim started while shooting daggers into her boyfriend with her bare eyes. âSo, since I wasnât about to just wait for a miracle, I called and asked you to do it. But someone didnât think about telling me that he had already gotten Jay to come. And now youâre both here, ugh!â She finished, rather dramatically, while pointing a finger at Adam.
That was, seriously, the best couple you knew when it came to bickering.
âOkay, so, um, itâs not gonna be any trouble. I can leave since your colleague got here first and you donât need to be stressed on your date night, friend.â You tried to bring things to a peaceful ending before Kim turned it into a murder scene.
âOh, I do need to be stressed! I need to-â She started to debate but got cut off by Makaylaâs cute pleading voice:
âBut you canât leave, (y/n/n)! Weâre gonna play karaoke!â The little girl clearly had already gotten worked up by your idea for the night.
âMakayla, baby, please donât be difficult. You hang out with (y/n/n) all the time, and uncle Jay is already hereâŠâ You watched as Adam tried to reason with his daughter while she held you really tight.
âNo, uhâŠâ Their friend started to say. Was it too weird for you to be thinking about how incredibly cute he looked when scratching the back of his neck like that? âRelax, man, I can go. I bet that youâre gonna have a lot more fun with her than with me, anyways, Mak.â He completed, talking to your little friend with a sweet smile, to which she reacted with a confused frown.
âBut- but why does Jay have to leave? Canât he play karaoke with us, (y/n/n)?â Makayla asked you poutingly.
âNow thatâs something Iâd like to see!â Adam started to mock but stopped when Kim punched him in the arm. âOuch! That hurt, you know?â
âI know! That was exactly the result I was hoping for!â She squealed out sarcastically, âMakayla, honey, you canât just ask both (y/n/n) and Jay to play karaoke, of all things, with you.â It was lovely to watch Kim interacting so patiently with her kid but the young girl still didnât seem to understand.
âBut why???â
âWell, they donât know each other, Makayla.â Kim tried again but Mak still wasnât ready to give it up.
âBut they know me!âÂ
âGood luck explaining now, ma.â As soon as the words came out of his mouth, all of you đ Adam himself included đ knew what was coming, fortunately, Kim just punched him in the arm again.
âYou know, guys, you donât need to fight over something like this, okay? Uh⊠Since heâs your coworker, Iâm gonna assume that heâs one of the good guys, therefore I wouldnât really have a problem with hanging out with himâŠâ You said because you were never one to say no to little kids. âI mean if thatâs okay with you, too, officerâŠâ
âItâs detective, actually. But you can call me Jay, uh, (y/n), right?â
âYeah, thatâs right.â
âWell, I donât have any problems with hanging out with you either,â Jay said and, Jesus, was that really his smile? âI mean, Mak should get all the babysitters she wants!â He told her with a wink. It was official. You were so done for the night.
âHa!â Kim nervously let out a laugh, âletâs go easy there, cowboy! You canât just come into my house offering the kid everything she wants.â
âOkay, okay,â the detective started to say with a gesture of surrender while the couple started to get out of the house to give you the space to properly go in. âSorry âbout that, ma!â You could have sworn that you saw him tremble đ just a little đ under the deadly gaze your friend sent his way. Adam, who seemed to be off the hook for the first time that night, took the moment to laugh and hope that his girl would forget she had been so mad at him.
âCâmon, darling. Letâs get going before we decide it isnât very safe to leave Mak with those two.â
"Yeah⊠I'm already deciding that but maybe they'll prove us wrong." Kim said, voice absolutely faithless. "You behave, Makayla!"
"It's more than obvious that she's going to be the best tonight. Get outta here already!" You heard Jay yelling a little in response to her, as you and Makayla started to get the karaoke set up.
But you, being the lucky person you were, obviously couldn't find your way around your friend's old stuff.
"Uh, you need any help there?"
âNo! No, not all! Um, I got this!â You quickly responded because you could be pretty skeptical when it came to admitting your weaknesses and, from your point of view, not getting a simple karaoke set to work was a huge one.
âAlright, thenâŠâ
âAre you sure you donât want Jay to help, (y/n/n)?â Mak asked, sounding way more reasonable than you, the actual adult there.
âUm, err, I guess maybe I could use some help⊠Itâs just that this TV setup is quite different from mineâŠâ You said, still unwilling to let how confused you were really show.
âYeah, I can help!â you heard Jay as he left his spot in the corner of the room. âI was just ordering us pizza but I can totally help out 'cause Adam and I actually shopped for these TVs together, so I have the same one!â He said, this time, already gently getting the device from your hands before you could even react, which was probably him sensing that you wouldnât give it up so easily, like he could see right through you.
âOkay, well, since you already ordered the pizza, Iâll go make us some juice.â As you said that you got both of your companions making weird faces at you, so you amended: âOr not, because you already ordered soda too⊠Just keep in mind that if Kim gets mad because of all the junk food that kid is eating, Iâm telling on you, detective!â You said, making a point to stare right into his eyes đ God, they were so beautiful, was there nothing but beauty in this manâs body?
âOkay, so I think weâre all good here with the karaoke! Who wants to go first?â Hearing that you came of your very dangerous thoughts and Makayla jumped up and down, screaming:
âMe! Me! Me!â
âAlright, little lady, then come pick a song!â Jay told her and stood by to help her with her choice.
About three hours later all three of you had already sung your hearts out đ Jay having had gone for ABBA, which surprised you and Mak, to say the least đ eaten lots of pizza, drunk lots of soda and had begun watching a movie, cause you told Jay that that always did the trick when it came to Mak falling asleep. But, God, it was hard to pay attention to the movie you were supposed to be watching when sitting next to a guy like that. And he wasnât just really handsome. He was sweet and kind and funny. Also, he was so good with Makayla. It was like everything youâd always imagined the perfect man being like was right there, reunited in the detectiveâs goof self. But you couldn't be thinking those thoughts about him. Not when he was so close. And definitely not when your best friend's daughter was lying on both of your laps.
So, in order to calm your thoughts for a minute, you gently put Makaylaâs head on a cushion as you got up đ because she was already asleep đ, and said Iâm gonna get started on cleaning over there.â It was indeed necessary since Mak had dropped all of the content of a big ice cream container near the dining table, the ice cream being very sticky and sort of liquid đ which was obviously beyond your understanding but who were you to judge Kim and her preferences?Â
"Oh God, lemme help you!" You heard Jay saying, as he quickly made his way from the corridor over to where you were cleaning the floor, by the dining table.
"Ah, there's no need for it. I'm used to spending time with Mak, and, then, cleaning up before Kim sees it." You told him with a sly smile.
"Ha! Well, I don't doubt it! You're really good with her."
"And she's really good at making giant messes."
"Right." He said, chuckling lightly. "But, this time, I bet you felt like there were two kids, huh?"
"Your words, not mine, detective."
"Anyways, I'll help. Don't tell Kim and Adam, cause they might spread it across the district, but I'm actually pretty good at cleaning. Especially, when compared to someone who's doing such a lousy job." At that, you instantly snapped your head in his direction.
"What did you just say?" You asked, pretending to be mad while standing up and raising your sponge, as if it was a weapon you were threatening him with.
"Uh⊠Uh, d- did you know that pulling a weapon on a cop is a crime?" He asked, trying to play along, but stuttering a little.
"And what are you gonna do?" Now that Makayla was asleep⊠"Huh? Arrest me?" Jesus Christ, you definitely weren't thinking straight, you thought as you watched Jay drop his mop, also spilling all the soapy water on the floor. He even motioned to take care of it but stopped when he realized that you were, now, standing closer. Closer than it was safe for him to be near a woman like you. So he decided to take a step backward, not remembering the floor situation and slipping. As a reflex, you grabbed his shirt when you were obviously not gonna be able to prevent him from falling.
So, you ended up falling with him. On top of him. Oh God, was that living room always so hot? Your thoughts were cut off by Jay's laugh, it was an open-mouthed laugh, just like when you two were interacting with Makayla. He didn't seem to be the kind of guy who got to laugh too much, especially given his job. But it definitely suited his features. His smile, that bright, was so beautiful.
"So you're seriously not even gonna try and get up? Just gonna stay there staring?" Hearing that, you blushed instantly, because you hadn't even realized you were staring.
"Ah, uh⊠Right." Now, that was your turn to stutter, and Jay was loving every second of it. He thought you looked absolutely adorable like that. Even more so than you had looked all night.
But you weren't feeling adorable at all. You were embarrassed. By the situation at hand, sure, but, also, by your entire behavior that had, pretty much, gotten the two of you in that position. What was going through your head? The answer was simple: nothing. Or, better yet, Jay's gorgeous face, body, and behavior. Just, Jay being gorgeous all night. Now, what really made you wanna dig a hole and jump right into it was when you tried to get up but the floor was so slippery that you just fell back on him.
Needless to say, he was having a playfield. Laughing like there was no tomorrow. In fact, he had relaxed completely under you, laying his head on the soaked floor.
"You know what? This is pretty comfortable. I think I'll stay right here." It was official: you had no self-shame.
"Are you serious?" He asked, trying hard to hold back from laughing.
"Look, I don't know what else to do, okay? And my brain is clearly affected by your little charm, because I just keep mortifying myself over and over-"
"So you think I'm charming, huh?" Damn it. A thousand times damn it.
"Uh⊠That's not exactly what I-" You couldn't finish your sentence, as Jay started pulling you even closer to him. Kissing you. Oh boy, how he kissed youâŠ
"Oh. My. God." Both you and Jay jumped away from each other, as much as you could, the second you heard Kim say that, her being followed suit by Adam:
"What the hell is that?!?" He half-asked, half-barked at the both of you, trying hard to not burst into laughter.
"Uh, it's, um, it's not what you're thinking, guys-"
"It's not what I'm thinking?!?" Yeah⊠It was safe to say that Kim was pissed. "Are you sure it isn't? Because the image actually seemed pretty self-explanatory to me!" As the both of you just kept working out a way to get up from the floor, she continued: "I come back home thinking that everything was gonna be perfect because my daughter had two adults babysitting her! People that I thought were quite responsible but, then, I come home to find those very adults making out on the floor in my living room! My very dirty living room! And, by the way, where the hell is Makayla?"
"She, um, she's in her bedroom. Asleep." Jay finally spoke. "And, about the mess⊠We were just, uhâŠ"
"Yeah, man, we saw what you were just doing," Adam said, looking like he was having the time of his life.
"No! That's not what he was gonna say-"
"Ah, so the two of you got along so well that now you even know what he was going to say, (y/n)?" Kim said, while glaring at you.
"All I meant was that, well, the place got a little dirtyâŠ" Jay started to explain but not fast enough.
"A little???" Kim was really, really mad, you realized.
"But dinner was great!" At that, both you and Kim just stared at him incredulously while Adam started laughing on his way to the kitchen.
"That's what you were going to say???" You ask him, not believing you'd just tried to defend him for some joke. "Kim, I'm sorry things ended up this unfruitfulâŠ" You began to tell your best friend, to try and patch things up, when Adam chipped in from the other room.
"You know, darling, Jay wasn't wrong! This pizza is great!" He barked, mouth full. And that's what got Kim to go over the edge.
"Don't you realize what just happened here, Adam??? And, you two! I still haven't heard an explanation on what the hell I just saw!"
"I'm sorry, okay? I'm sorry! We were cleaning up and then it just-"
"It just what, (y/n)??? It just happened? That what you were gonna say?"
"As a matter of fact, yes, it is! It just happened because you and your boyfriend made me babysit with this ridiculously hot guy and I'm human! Now, before you have another crisis, Makayla didn't see anything and I'm leaving because I just humiliated myself more than enough for a lifetime!" With that said, and your flight or flee instinct activated â cause you were never much of a fighter â, you did the smartest thing possible and stormed out of there, hoping to be able to get into some sort of protection program for embarrassment victims.
Meanwhile, Adam and Kim simply had to laugh, even more so when they noticed Jay's shocked twinkling expression.
"Jay! What is wrong with you?" Kim asked, taking him out of his daze.
"What?"
"Go after her! If I hadn't been so upset about the circumstances, I would've been the first one to say that what happened over there?" She asked, pointing to the floor. "What happened there was hot." The officer finished her trail of thought bluntly, as if it was the most obvious thing.
"But⊠What about your living room?" Jay asked, still unsure of what to do.
"Are you kidding me? Look, Halstead, if you promise not to break her heart⊠I won't hold it against you." Kim stated, making her stance on the whole matter very clear. She thought it was a good way to start apologizing to you after freaking out like that.
"Uh, uh, alright!" The detective rambled, looking like he had no idea of what to do next.
âGo!â With that last push, he left his friendsâ house to go try and get the girl.
âYou know, this is quite a mess but they do have the potential to be a great couple!â Adam happily pointed out, as he kept eating all he could find.
âHa! If sheâs as lucky as I amâŠâ Kim ironically muttered, as she watched her boyfriend impolitely shoving food in his mouth.
âThen sheâs a very lucky lady!â He confidently stated with a grin while all Kim could do was laugh at his messy childish ways.
Outside burzek's apartment â burzek being the ship name you used to tease Kim and Adam with â, you had been slowly walking towards the subway. You wanted to move faster but your mind was too full at the moment. And, sometimes, when you needed to get your head back on straight, you couldn't really do anything else, having a hard time concentrating on your flow of thoughts.
It was right when you were beginning to think you had stopped the spirals in your mind that you heard him: "(y/n)!" You recognized the detective's voice on the spot. How could you not, after how he had managed to disrupt your thoughts and actions all evening? But you weren't about to turn back around and have your very own movie ending with him. You just knew it wasn't gonna play out like that and decided to keep walking in order to preserve the little dignity you still had. "Oh, c'mon! Just give me a minute! Please!" That pleading made you turn around, to let him down more politely, which ended up with the two of you almost hitting each other. Once again, that same night, he was too close to you. The proximity with his body sending all sorts of heatwaves through yours. He seemed to be feeling it too, given the way he started to look at you, the damn smirk back on his lips.
"Nu-uh. You don't get to look at me like that. Not after what it did to me the first time."
"Huh. Care to elaborate on that? How exactly am I looking at you?" He asked, moving even closer to you altogether. "And, more importantly, what exactly did it do to you?"
"You don't need me to answer any of that." You pointed out, crossing your arms over your chest â clearly going into defensive mode.
"Maybe not," he started, tilting his head slightly â the damn smirks never leaving his face. "But. I'd like to hear it nevertheless."
"Well, you're not going to."
"Ah, okay." Wait, was he really giving up that easily? "Then maybe I can just try and see what it does to you one more time? For the sake of curiosity." All you could think to say was an enthusiastic 'Yes, please!' but, when he started leaning in to kiss you, you seemed to come back to your senses, pushing him away and taking some steps back of your own.
"Oh my God! Don't you get it? We can't be doing this right now. Not after the way I left things with Kim because of our previous, um, actions!" At that, Jay just gave you a confused look. "I stormed out of there but just because I was feeling too ashamed about it all and I honestly donât think that I want any more embarrassment for a lifetime.
âOkay, okay. I get that but maybe it would feel less embarrassing for you if you knew that I was feeling all of that too: all of that buzzing energy and the goddamn butterflies and everything. You were doing exactly the same I did to you to me. And, as embarrassing as it was to be caught like that by Adam and Kim, I still canât say I regret any of it. In fact, I was thinking that maybe we could do it again? You know, minus all the mess and the kid đ I mean, I adore Mak but that would be-âÂ
You didnât care to listen to the rest of all he had to say. Instead, you threw yourself into his arms, even making him lose his balance for a second, and started kissing him, except that this time it was a slow, hot, and thought-through kiss. And the second you did kiss him, you heard clapping and whistling from afar, as you turned to find Kim and Adam there, once again witnessing you and Jay kiss. And that had Jay whispering to you:
âLetâs get out of here?â To which you responded simply with a:
âYes, please!â

Adam cradled your work bag and purse in one hand, his broad shoulders carrying the weight of your exhaustion. His free hand pressed the down button for the elevator, the soft ping of the mechanism cutting through the silence. You sighed deeply, closing your eyes for a brief moment, letting the weariness wash over you.
âTired?â he asked, concern lacing his voice.
âExhausted. I could sleep for days,â you responded, the fatigue squinting your eyes. A massive yawn escaped your lips as the elevator doors slid open. You leaned against the wall for support, stifling another yawn. âSorry,â you murmured.
âItâs all good. I hope you can get some rest once youâre home,â he said, as his voice comforted your frazzled nerves.
âThanks, Adam. For everything. You've all been so supportive. Even if it's a bit awkward.â
The elevator dinged, and Adam gestured for you to step out first. He spotted a nearby vending machine and asked, âDid you eat today?â
Not waiting for your answer, he walked over to the whirring machine and purchased a bottle of water and a bag of smart popcorn. You sank onto a bench, grateful for the brief respite. Adam returned, popping open the snack and handing you the bag and the beverage. The two of you continued on your journey to the parking lot.
âMaybe this can give you a bit of energy.â
âAdam, you don't have to make such a fuss. You, Kim, Kevin, and Voight have already done enough. I can't believe she made a time chart so everyone can take turns escorting me to these appointments. She even has poor Dante in on it. That baby has his hands full taking care of himself. Bless his heart.â
âAre you kidding me? You're family. Thatâs what you do for loved ones,â he assured you, his eyes steady and sincere.
âIs this not awkward for you guys? Haileyâs your friend too,â you grudgingly admitted.
âYes, but we knew you first. We're not going to abandon years of friendship over drama. We support her just as we do you. Jââ
âAdam, please don't. The thought of him is even more stressful. Thanks for the snack. I can finish this in the car. I'm ready to get home to my comfy bed. It's been a long day.â
You caught a flicker of emotion in Adam's eyes, but he quickly masked it. Clearing his throat, he agreed, âYouâre right. Let's get you home. Kimâs making me and Makâs favorite dinner tonight,â he bragged, trying to lighten the mood.
âYou bring baby girl next time. I miss her cute wittle face,â you demanded.
âYes, maâam.â
The walk to the exit grew quiet and tense. You glanced at Adam out of the corner of your eye.
âYou good?â
âY-yeah. Just thinking about a case,â he lied, his voice unconvincing.
As he opened the door, you started to press about the case. But your words caught in your throat at the sight of a figure standing across the parking lot. Your gaze locked onto the face, shock coursing through you. You spun around, the question about the case forgotten. "Tell me you didn't. What is he doing here?"
Adam scratched the back of his neck, looking apologetic. âSorry, sis. The moment Hailey found out, she said he deserved to know. It was either sheâd tell him, or Kevin and I. Kim was against it all. Voight was neutral.â
âI told you I would tell him on my own time!â
âWhen would that have been? You've been putting it off for three months now,â Adam argued.
âYou don't get it. None of you know the entirety of the situation. I'm not just some home-wrecking whore. If anything, my home was the one that took the damage. You might want to remind Hailey of that, given that she's out here giving an ultimatum based on my life.â
Your gaze fixated on the once-sparkling eyes that had the power to make your heart flutter. Now, those same eyes left your heart in ruins, a painful reminder of what was lost.
âWhy are you here? Shouldn't you be somewhere across an ocean or something?â
Jay walked up slowly like he was approaching a wounded animal. He stood a few inches away from you, hands buried in his pockets, looking down. âI just want to talk,â he begged.
âNow you want to have a conversation? Why, Jay? Why are you here? You made your choice.â
âDid I make my choice?â
âWalkingâsorry, runningâaway was a choice. Was it not?â
His eyes locked with yours as he pleaded, âI know you hate me, but please, just one conversation? I took leave as soon as I found out.â
âAre you supposed to get brownie points for that,â you snapped.
âSweetheartââ
âYou don't get to call me that,â you growled.
Adamâs hand rested on your shoulder, the turmoil between two of his dearest friends cutting deep. It reminded him of the trying times he and Kim had gone through. He held out hope that you two would find some resolve.
âYou know this exchange needs to happen. Maybe you'll find clarity,â Adam said, looking you in the eyes. âI'm sure heâs come to his senses over the past couple of months. Surely he realizes he could have handled the situation better and that he was being stupid.â
"Thanks, Adam. That's incredibly helpful," Jay retorted with a sarcastic edge.
Ruzek shot him a glare. âAs I was saying, this needs to happen. Do me a favor. Let him drive you home. Give him however much time you want to explain himself. Discuss the most important things. Then you can either reconcile or tell him to go to hell.â
Jay threw his hands in the air. Adam cut his eyes to him. âBeing my bro doesn't give you a pass. I'm going to call you on your shit. You know that.â
âReconcile? You must have confused me with Hailey.â
âDamn it, sis.â
âFine,â you snarled, turning to head toward Jay's truck.
âThanks! Love you,â Ruzek shouted as you flipped them both off.
Adam shoved your belongings into Jayâs chest. His voice dropped into a menacing, judgemental tone. âGlad to have you back, brother. Try not to leave things as messed up as you did the last time. When are you going to stop screwing her over and flipping her life upside down? You better make this right.â
âI will make it right with everyone involved.â
âNo, just her. You've got to choose, and it needs to be her.â
âWho says I hadn't already tried to do that?â
âYeah, and then you changed your mind.â
âThat's not what I meant to do. You know what, Ruzek? I know I screwed up. Can we pause this lecture so I can try and rectify my mistakes?â
Adam paused for emphasis. He needed Jay to listen to the advice he was about to give, to let it sink in truly.
"You messed up, Halstead," Adam said, his voice gruff but laced with concern. "But you gotta fight for her. Show her you mean it this time." Jay clenched his jaw, the truth of Adam's words scraping at his already sore conscience.
âI hear you, brother. Truly. Iâve been stupid far too long, and itâs time I get my life in order. I justâneeded to get away. To finish something Iâd run from for far too long. I took that time away to figure out how to stop sabotaging the things and people I love most.
Adam nodded his head before laying into him once more, âI swear to God, Jay Halstead, if you mess this up againâif you don't manage to pull your head out of your assâKevin and I are going to knock you out cold.â
âIt sure is good to be home,â Jay sighed, walking toward the passenger door. He unlocked it and helped you, vertically challenged as you were, into the monstrous truck.
The minute your butt hit the seat, you snatched away from him. He slid into the driver's seat, reaching across to buckle your seatbelt as he had in the past. He jumped back as you slapped his hand away.
âIâve got it. Just drive.â
Half the drive to your apartment was filled with tense silence. Jay couldn't take it any longer. He cleared his throat, attempting to engage in conversation.
âHow have you been? You look as beautiful as ever.â
Your head snapped to the side as if you had been struck. Jay kept his eyes on the road, but he could feel your piercing glare.
âLook, I'm trying not to raise my blood pressure these days. Do me a favor and keep the stupid ass questions to a minimum,â you hissed.
âJesus, Y/N. No matter what I say, itâs going to upset you. I admit itâs well-deserved, but can't we be civil until we at least get to the house?â
âCivil? Are you trying to gaslight me right now? You don't deserve civility. How about we ride in silence? Nothing I say to you is going to be nice, Jay.â
âSilence it is.â
The sight of your driveway eased the tension in Jay's shoulders. He shut off the engine, the rumble fading into the quiet hum of the neighborhood. Stepping out of the dusty truck, his legs ached from hours on the road, but he glided to your passenger door.
"Hey there," he greeted with a hint of breathlessness in his voice. He started to reach out, but you mumbled a quick "thanks" as you slid out and brushed past him, already digging in your purse for your keys.
Jay lingered on the curb briefly, a flicker of disappointment crossing his features before the familiar puppy-dog eyes returned. You rolled your eyes playfully, the sound masking the growing unease in your stomach. "Alright, alright. I'll hear you out," you conceded, finally finding your keys. "But I swear if youâ"
Your playful threat was cut short by the sudden seriousness in Jay's voice. He reached out, his fingers brushing against yours as he placed the keys inside your pants pocket. "I've got it," he murmured, his gaze dropping to the worn metal in his hand. He chewed his lip nervously a stark contrast to his usual confident demeanor.
"Why keep my spare key?" you asked, suspicion evident.
Jay hesitated, his shoulders slumping slightly. When he met your gaze again, his eyes were a storm of hidden emotions. Sadness mingled with something deeper, something you couldn't quite place. "I wasn't planning to leave," he admitted, his voice thick with regret. "Not for good, that is."
You sighed, the energy draining from your body like air from a punctured balloon. The weight of his words settled on you, heavy and unspoken. "Right," you said, your voice flat. "Just unlock the door, Jay. My feet are killing me."
As Jay unlocked the door and pushed it open, you stepped inside and felt a wave of relief wash over you. The familiar comfort of home was opposite the whirlwind of emotions you were feeling. You kicked off your shoes and trudged towards the living room, dropping onto the couch with a heavy sigh. Jay followed, lingering in the doorway as if unsure whether to stand or join you.
You looked up at him, the silence between you charged with unresolved tension. "You can sit, Jay. I won't bite your head off. I'll try not to that is."
He nodded and sat down on the opposite end of the couch, his posture rigid. "Thanks."
For a moment, neither of you spoke, the quiet settling around you like a heavy blanket. Finally, Jay broke the silence. "I know you're angry. You have every right to be. But I need you to know that I never meant for things to get this bad. Before I get into all of that. I have to ask. Itâs a stupid question, and I probably already know the answer. Why didn't you respond to any of my letters? Did you read any of them?â
âNo.â
âNot even the emails or texts?â
âNope,â you responded, emphasizing the letter p.
âIf you had read them. You would've known that I tried to explain myself even if they were selfish reasons. Part of you may have understood why I did what I did.â
âWell, I didn't, Jay. You left without even saying goodbye. You didn't deserve another moment of my time. Be grateful you're getting it now.â You glanced at him, your expression guarded. "Why did you come back, Jay? Really?"
He took a deep breath, his eyes searching yours. "Because I found out you're pregnant."
Emotions crashed over you all at once. "So that's it? They tell you I'm pregnant and you come running back?"
"It's not just about the baby," he insisted. "I want to be here for you, for us. I realized that running away was a mistake. I thought I was protecting you, but I was just being a coward. I want to make things right, if you'll let me."
"Make things right?" you echoed, a hint of bitterness in your voice. "You think you can just come back and fix everything with a few words? Every time we've faced an obstacle, you've chosen everything over me. Your career, your fleeting moment of weakness for Hailey, even leaving to return to the army. How do I know this time will be different?"
Memories of your tumultuous past resurfaced. You and Jay had started dating years ago, your connection was instant and intense. Things got serious quickly, but Jay's fear of commitment led him to break things off and pursue a relationship with Erin Lindsay. When Erin left for an FBI job, Jay came running back to you, realizing he'd only gotten involved with her as a means to run from commitment as always.
You took him back, and things got serious again. Only that time his career became increasingly dangerous, and your constant fear for his safety caused a rift. He chose his job over you, and the two of you broke up. That time it hadn't hurt as much. You had no right to force him to choose between a career and the woman he loved. You took it as a sign that perhaps you just needed time apart.
After some time, you started to slowly rebuild your relationship, only for Jay to start having feelings for Hailey Upton. Though you know the responsibility lay mostly in your man. You still felt a way about Hailey deciding to pursue him anyway. She knew the two of you were amid reconciliation. Even with that knowledge, she still initiated the kiss and confession of attraction that confused Jay.
You argued over his feelings for the both of you and eventually, you broke up. Jay pursued things with Hailey, and while at first, it was just hooking up, things eventually got serious. Your weakness for him led to the two of you still sleeping together, but when Hailey discovered the two of you were still involved. Suddenly she wanted a committed relationship, Jay chose her. They got married (out of Jayâs perverse sense of loyalty and obligation to the team), and you tried to move on. But Jay's jealousy and selfish attempts to sabotage your relationships made it clear he was still not over you.
He soon realized he made a mistake getting involved with Hailey. You refused to take him back until he was a single man, and after a quick divorce, Jay struggled with wanting to serve a bigger purpose. It was as if he was in the midst of an early midlife crisis. Just as you two had started to rekindle your romance and rebuild, he up and left to rejoin the army.
As you were trying to pick up the broken pieces of your heart, you discovered the pregnancy. Jay found out from your friends and returned home to explain himself, determined to make things right this time. The touch of his fingers gliding across your cheek brought you back to the present. You tilted back from his touch.
âThat's what you always do, Jay,â you began, your voice trembling with suppressed emotion. âRun and leave me to deal with the fallout of broken promises and heartbreak. At every turn, you've chosen everyone, everything else, over me. Erin. Your job. Marrying Hailey! Not to mention she's not the first wife, but the second. What is it three times a charm? Youâve already knocked me up. Now all you gotta do is marry me and run. Just like you always do. Hell, you chose the military over me, Jay! So tell me, why? Why should I let you back in and risk you breaking this babyâs heart in the future? Why do you always run, Jay?â
His expression softened, his eyes filled with regret as he listened to your words. He reached out, gently cupping your face in his hands. The pads of his thumbs swiped at the tears rolling down your cheeks.
âBecause I was scared, honey,â he admitted, his voice barely above a whisper. âScared of messing things up, of not being good enough for you. But I realize now that running away only made things worse, that I canât keep hiding from my mistakes. I want to be here for you, for our child. I want to make things right, to be the man you deserve.â
Jay met your gaze, his resolve hardening. "No more running," he vowed silently. The fear of losing you forever was a terrifying prospect, but it paled in comparison to the regret of never trying at all. He had to face his demons and fight for the future he longed for.
More tears fell as you looked into his eyes, searching for any sign of sincerity. And there, amidst the pain and regret, you saw it â a glimmer of hope, a flicker of determination.
The weight of your history hung in the air as you sat together, the past intertwining with the present. Jay reached out, his hand gently covering yours. âI know Iâve made a lot of mistakes, and Iâve hurt you more than I can ever make up for. But Iâm here now, and Iâm not going anywhere. I want to be a part of your life, and our childâs life, if youâll let me.â
âIâm tired of being hurt, Jay,â you whispered, your voice barely audible. âBut if youâre willing to try, if youâre willing to fight for us, then maybe... just maybe, we can find a way to make this work.â
Jay nodded, his grip on your face tightening ever so slightly. âIâm willing to do whatever it takes, sweetheart. I love you, and Iâll spend the rest of my life proving it to you.â
You looked into his eyes, seeing the pang of regret. âItâs not going to be easy, Jay. We have a lot to work through. But I want to believe that youâve changed, that youâre here for the right reasons.â
âI am,â he said firmly. âI know Iâve chosen wrong in the past, but Iâm choosing you now. Iâm choosing us.â
âOkay,â you said, your voice steady. âLetâs take it one step at a time.â
Jay nodded, a small smile playing on his lips. âOne step at a time.â
As you sat together, the first glimmers of hope began to shine through the darkness. It was a long road ahead, but with determination and love, you knew you could face whatever challenges came your way, together.
But there was something Jay had kept from you, something he had been working on while he was away. As you looked into his eyes, you saw a hint of hesitation, a flicker of uncertainty.
âThereâs something else I need to tell you,â he began, his voice hesitant. âWhile I was deployed, I... I started talking to a therapist.â
Your eyebrows furrowed in surprise, a million questions flooding your mind. âA therapist? Did something happen while you were away? Are you okay,â you rambled as your mind raced with a thousand different scenarios.
Jay took a deep breath, gathering his thoughts. âHoney. Honey, relax. I'm not hurt. I realized that I needed help and that I couldnât keep running from my problems. I needed to confront my past, to understand why I kept making the same mistakes over and over again.â
âAnd did it help?â you asked, your voice barely above a whisper.
He nodded, a sense of relief washing over him. âYeah, it did. I learned a lot about myself, about the things that drove me to make those mistakes. And I made a promise to myself â and you â that I would come back a better man, that I would do whatever it takes to make things right. I'm going to continue my journey with therapy. After all the pain I've caused. I think it wouldn't hurt to do couples counseling. Only if that's something you're interested in pursuing.â
Tears welled up in your eyes as you looked at him, a mixture of relief and gratitude flooding your heart. âI'd like that. Thank you,â you whispered, the words barely audible.
Jay reached out, gently wiping away your tears. âIâm sorry for everything Iâve put you through. But Iâm here now, and Iâm not going anywhere. I love you and Iâll do whatever it takes to make things right.â
You leaned into his touch, feeling a sense of peace wash over you. The weight of the past slowly began to lift, replaced by a sense of hope for the future. It wouldnât be easy, you knew, but with determination and love, you were ready to face whatever challenges came your way, together.
Things grew quiet as the two of you looked longingly at one another. The faintest gasp slipped and you whispered, âJay, you can't look at me like that.â
His voice low and husky, he responded, âHow am I looking at you, sweetheart? I haven't seen or held you in quite some time. Admittedly, I'm the one to blame for that, but there isn't any other way I could look at you right now.â
âPlease,â you begged. âDamn it, Jay. Look at me like I disgust you. Just, anything but the way you're staring at me now.â
âYou want me to look at you with disgust,â he questioned, already shaking his head no. âThat's not possible, honey.â
âListen to me, Jay Halstead. I'm very pregnant and hormonal right now. I need you to be the bigger person and say that what I'm thinking is a bad idea. You need to be strong for both of us. Go home, Jay. If you donât, we may give in to temptation. Why did you have to wear that damn uniform?â
He gave you a megawatt smile, slightly nibbling at his lips as if he was embarrassed by your compliment.
âWhy, Mr. Halstead, are you blushing,â you questioningly teased.
N-No,â he spluttered.
A brief silence was followed by laughter. Once it ceased, Jay spoke in a soft, warm voice, âTo answer your question. This is home, sweetheart. It is in my heart.â
And then, in a moment of weakness, as the pregnancy hormones surged through your body and desire flared between you, you found yourselves giving in to the longing that had been simmering beneath the surface. In each otherâs arms, you found solace, comfort, and a renewed sense of hope for the future.
Jay didn't want to ruin things, but if something were to happen. He'd not only need consent and for you to set things in motion. He'd been given a chance to make things right. Jay wouldn't risk it all by making you believe this was the only reason he had come to talk.
âDonât make me regret this, Jay.â
Before he could answer, you surged onto his lap, kissing him with all the pent-up passion you could muster. You both sighed and moaned as your lips met. Pulling away briefly, you pressed yourself into him. "There's no time for foreplay," you murmured.
Jay groaned as his eyes snapped closed. He grabbed hold of your waist, anchoring you to his lap. Slowly, his eyes peeled open. They were filled with hunger and uncertainty. âAre you sure, honey? I'd understand if you wanted to wait.â
Your hand trailed up his back, sending shivers down his spine as it glided sensuously up his neck and into his hair. Your fingers tangled gently in his light brown locks, tugging playfully. Your other hand encircled his throat in a delicate caress, âThat depends. How badly do you miss me riding your thick, veiny, co-.â
Jay's growl silenced you abruptly, shattering his composure.âEver the little tempting brat. Aren't you, sweet girl?â
In a feverish rush, you tore at each other's clothes. Pushing Jay onto the sofa, you straddled him, reclaiming your dominance. You descended slowly, savoring the sensation. Your pants joined his symphony of groans as you moved your hips. Alternating between rocking and moving in a circular motion. Pleasure washed over you both, leaving Jay breathless.
âF-fuck. Baby, if you squeeze me any tighter, this wonât last long.â
Being the petty brat you are. You allowed your muscles to contract around him again. Jay couldn't help but shake his head from side to side and chuckle. His eyes found yours, turning dark as they simmered with heat. Jayâs hand collided with your soft, ample, flesh. He reveled in the half moan, half whine it pulled from your lips.
His hands pawed at your hips possessively forcing you up to his tip before quickly pulling you back down. You both cried out and you begged him to do it again. Jay repeated the motion as he freed one hand to toy and pinch at your bundle of nerves. With every pinch and circle of his fingers, you climbed higher. The closer you came to falling over the edge the more your walls gripped his flesh.
âLet go for me, sweetheart. Can you do that for me, sweet girl? Hmm? Yes, you can. Can't you, baby? Come for me, sweetheart. Soak me and this damn couch just like I know you can.â
Jay slammed you down one final time locking you into place as he circled your nub. Your face buried into his neck as violent shakes paired with sobs. You ground against his lap riding out the orgasm. Jay held you close as he left kisses against the side of your head. He talked you down from an intense orgasm. âYouâre okay, honey. You're okay. You did so good for me.â
He tensed hearing sniffles muffle into the side of his neck. âBaby? Are you okay?â
âPromise you won't leave me again, Jay.â
He lifted your head, his eyes filled with reassurance. âI promise, baby. Never again. Okay?â
You nodded in agreement as he wiped your face. He stole a quick kiss before pulling you back against him to cuddle again.
âJay,â your question muffled against his neck again.
âYes, baby-.â
His response caught in his throat as you clamped down on him once more. Your lips trailed from the side of his neck up to his ear. You playfully bit his ear and moaned, âYou didnât get to come.â
âKeep doing that and it won't take long, sweetheart,â he groaned.
The morning sun streamed through the curtains, casting a warm glow across the room as you stirred in Jay's embrace. The events of the previous night played like a dream in your mind, a mixture of vulnerability, longing, and desire. You glanced at Jay, still sleeping peacefully beside you, and couldn't help but feel a sense of contentment wash over you.
As you lay there, basking in the afterglow of your shared moment of weakness, you couldn't shake the feeling of hope that filled your heart. Despite the challenges and uncertainties that lay ahead, you knew that you and Jay would face them together, united in love and determination.
With a soft smile, you pressed a gentle kiss to Jay's lips, feeling a surge of warmth and affection between you. The kiss pulled Jay from his slumber. Blinking a few times to clear the sleep from his vision, he rubbed at your small but noticeable bump.
âOh, I see put me back to sleep so you can nap some more,â you teased. âFine by me, Halstead.â Jay smirked and continued rubbing in circular motions. Just as you were about to drift off to sleep, there was a loud knock on the door, causing you both to jump.
Jay chuckled, planting a kiss on your forehead before pulling away. "I'll go see who it is."
As he made his way to the door, you heard familiar voices on the other side. "Come on, man. We gotta make sure Jay's still in one piece," Adam's voice rang out.
"Yeah, and see if they've reconciled yet," Kevin chimed in.
With a grin, Jay swung open the door to reveal Adam and Kevin standing on the doorstep, wearing matching grins and teasing expressions.
"Hey there, lovebirds. Just making sure Jay survived the night," Adam quipped.
Jay rolled his eyes, but there was a hint of amusement in his expression. "Yeah, yeah. Thanks for the concern, guys."
Kevin nudged Adam with a smirk. "Did yâall kiss and make up, or do we need to start planning your escape route? Blink twice if you need help bro."
You couldn't help but laugh at their antics, shaking your head in mock exasperation. "We're working on it, okay? Now, if you don't mind, we were kind of in the middle of something."
Adam and Kevin exchanged a knowing look before raising their hands in surrender. "Alright, alright. We'll leave you two lovebirds to it. But just remember, we're always here if you need a referee," Adam teased, earning a playful swat from Jay. Kim told me to say she expects a full run down over lunch tomorrow. She kept saying she wanted all the tea. What does that even mean?â
Kevin shook his head in disappointment. âCome on big dog. I'll have to teach you some new lingo on the way back to the precinct. Jay? Voight said you always have a job where he's concerned. Before you decline. Hailey is joining the FBI,â he finished with a wink toward you.
As they turned to leave, you couldn't help but feel grateful for the friends who always knew how to lighten the mood, even in the most awkward situations. As you snuggled back into Jay's arms, you felt a surge of passion coursing through your veins, igniting a fire that had been smoldering between you since the moment you first met.
With a mischievous glint in his eye, Jay turned to you, his gaze filled with desire. "Well, that was unexpected," he whispered, his voice husky with longing.
You couldn't help but smile at the intensity of his gaze, feeling a rush of heat spreading through your body at the thought of being so close to him again. "Unexpected, but not unwelcome," you replied, your voice barely above a whisper.
As Jay leaned in to capture your lips in a searing kiss, you melted into his embrace, the passion between you igniting like wildfire. In that moment, all the doubts and uncertainties melted away, leaving only the burning desire that had brought you back together.
âIâm insatiable, sorry.â
âNo need to apologize. That makes two of us, sweetheart,â he responded, brushing curls from your face. His heart warmed that he was able to hold you this way. Jay had missed the feel of your skin and moving the hair from your vision. âYou might want to put your bonnet on this time. I donât want to get in trouble for ruining your hair, love.â
âSmart man, Mr. Halstead,â you giggled, leaving feathery kisses along his jaw.
And as the passion between you intensified, you couldn't help but joke, "Maybe it's just the pregnancy hormones," eliciting a laugh from both Jay and yourself, knowing that the truth was far deeper than a mere hormonal surge.
