I’m not sure if you’ve answered this before but what does javejita love most about the other person? & is there anything specific about their personality/character traits that stood out to one another and led to them catch feelings?? ❤️
So this got SO LONG I am so sorry
With Javier, initially, the thing that stood out to him was Abejita’s attention to detail. I mentioned this a little bit with some previous Javejita headcanons — he knew that she was smart, but didn’t understand just how observant she was. A major, major turning point for him was the night that she came back into the office to tell him to stop beating himself up and to go home. No one had said a thing to her about the case, about what had happened on the field that day; he realized she knew him well enough and recognized what it looked like when he was taking something a little too much to heart. And when she said, “It’s okay, Javier,”— when she used his first name, saw that he’d been struggling with how to thank her? Something clicked in him. He couldn’t call it love, not back then. He didn’t know well enough. With Abejita, it’s Javier’s willingness to understand and change. Look, when the man realizes that he’s fucked up with Luciana, does he always respond the right way? No. Definitely not. He tries to joke not once, but twice, because he thinks he can make Abejita smile. That’s because for a long time, the foundation of their relationship was teasing and sniping at one another. But after she shuts him down in the hallway (”If you had even an ounce of respect for me the way you do [Steve], last night would never have happened. If you respected me at all, you would’ve left Luciana alone, gone down the block to the nearest whorehouse where I’m sure they all know you by name, and found somewhere else to stick your dick for the night.” ~~TURN DOWN FOR WHAT~~) Javier course corrects. Heavily. And the thing is, he’s tried to course correct before that as well. He realizes that Abejita won’t be comfortable with him alone with Luciana, asks Steve to take over. Connie tells her how apologetic he seemed, and Abejita realizes that Steve didn’t offer to take over. Javi asked him to. Javier apologizes properly. He brings by obleas, he sits and chats with her a bit when she offers. He tries to apologize again, because he’s legitimately sorry, he realizes that he fucked up, and at that point, he’s come to understand that he really cares about her. When he underestimates her later, says “But you work in the office,” when he sees that she’s armed, he course corrects there, too. He tries to apologize, and he brings her something spicy. He doesn’t come to dinner at Connie and Steve’s, but he drives her to the airport. He stays with her at the airport. Abejita, being as observant as she is, recognizes that Javier is making note of where and how he’s fucking up, and he tries to fix it. It may not always happen fast, and it may not always be in the best way, but he is trying. I think that Javier and Abejita both love each other’s determination, but in very different ways. That was a major driving force behind Javier not saying anything to Abejita before she left for D.C. He knew that he had feelings for her, but what kind of asshole would he have been to say, “Hey, this job sounds great, like something you’d be perfect for, but how about you stay here and work this desk job and we could keep doing this flirting thing, maybe more than flirting? If you’re into that?” Abejita has always had drive, has always been meticulous in her work. She’s helped him with operations, she’s gotten him and Steve information from the White Room that they wouldn’t have had access to otherwise at the risk of her own career. He knew that working administration in Bogotá wouldn’t be the last stop for her. She was moving up, he wasn’t going to ask her not to. She was too smart for that. When it comes to Javier, Abejita sees that determination in nights like the one where she shooed him away from his desk. She knows that being on the field takes it out of him, that he sometimes feels like he’s lost more people than he’s been able to save. That sort of thing could make someone want to quit, but it pushes Javier. Sometimes it pushes him too far, as with Los Pepes. But what happened with Los Pepes also pushes Javier to want to do things differently when he comes back to Bogotá. He knows what it looks like when you don’t play by the book, and he tries to ensure that Fiestl and Van Ness are careful when they’re running operations, and play things by the book. Abejita sees Javier willing to push himself to make things better— and to make himself better. She loves him for that determination. can we get some Javejita headcannons?? like obv you can’t give away too much, but how do Javejita act on a day to day basis pre-Luciana-fucking-shit-up? did they get eachother coffee? did they ever eat dinner at the office together? is food and coffee their love language?
(the question was asked in third person so the answer is structured in third i hope that's okay!!)
This gif is what i look like when I think about anything at all i need a nap HEADCANONS BELOW THE CUT DARLING 💖
Let’s start with the Javi and Abejita getting coffee for one another or eating dinner together:
Absolutely not no.
Javier only ever provided Abejita with caffeine when he was in need of a BIG favor. In the most recent chapter, Abejtia brought Javier food because she recognized him digging into himself the way he did in chapter five, and despite recent events, Abejita does worry about him. It’s very
Pre-Luciana day-to-day, Javier and Abejita were like magnets.
But like not the kind that are drawn to one another.
I’m talking like when you’re playing with magnets as a little kid and you take the two with opposing charges and shove them at one another until they fling apart. They didn’t hate one another. They were just coworkers; they were not close and they really didn't try to be.
They did happen to pick up little things about one another by virtue of proximity, like Javier knowing that Abejita liked to clean her desk with Lemonsol, or Abejita knowing that Javier kept a bottle of whiskey in his desk.
They each knew that the other was quite smart - you don't just walk into the DEA and say 'hi yes I will take one of those uh- Job things?'. Both are considered indispensable to the office.
But Javier saw Abejita as someone who kept her head down in her cushy office job and Abejita saw Javier as someone that just fucked his way through his job and occasionally did his paperwork.
If both were in civil moods, they’d nod to one another-- there might even be a, “Morning.” God forbid one or both were feeling snippy, though. Remember back in chapter three when Abejita told Peña that he smelled like pussy?
You know that look on Steve’s face when he’s tired and he can’t quite believe that what’s happening is happening but he lets it go cause

Double that because Steve legitimately could not tell if Abejita and Javier genuinely disliked one another or just needed to fuck. He just couldn't get a read on it.
Thing is, though, as grudging as Javier and Abejita could be toward one another, they recognized that they each did their jobs-- and well.
Javier took longer to come around to this, but it clicked when Abejita knew exactly who Antonella was without him telling her, and Abejita made a point to tell Noonan as such. On top of it, the night she bossed him out of his chair and told him to go home? That made him realize just how much she pays attention. Abejita is observant. He knows that now.
Abejita has known that Javier is good at his job, she just thinks that his methods are…………. Questionable.
But part of her does understand that Javier does what he does to get the job done. He dips into the grey where other people won’t, and he does bad things sometimes to catch bad people.
That’s why she tells Luciana that he’s the best man she knows.
