US Navy America Amphibious Ready Group Completes Exercise Iron Fist
Sailors assigned to the America Amphibious Ready Group (ARG), and Marines assigned to the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, celebrated the completion of the 18th iteration of Exercise Iron Fist, alongside members of the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF) and Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF), in a ceremony held on the flight deck of the JMSDF Ōsumi -class tank landing ship JS Kunisaki (LST-4003), March 17. Exercise Iron Fist is an annual bilateral exercise designed to increase interoperability and strengthen the relationships between the U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Navy, the JGSDF, and the JMSDF.

It's an Ōsumi class LST of Japan Maritime Self Defense Force (JMSDF), three units were built. The ship was built by Hitachi, Maizuru and has been in service since February 2003.
It has the ability to transport up to 330 troops, 2 LCAC landing vehicles in a flood dam and operate only on flight platform 🚁 helicopters (up to CH-47 / MV-22 Osprey).

U.S. Navy, Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force conduct cooperative deployment in East China Sea U.S. Navy Ships assigned to the Wasp Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) joined Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) amphibious transport dock ship, JS Kunisaki (LST 4003), for a cooperative deployment (CODEP), Jan. 11-12. During the cooperative deployment, ARG ships and JS Kunisaki conducted communication and maneuvering drills. Capt. Jim McGovern, commodore, PHIBRON 11 also visited Kunisaki to meet with the crew and tour the ship. “It was a great opportunity to visit Kunisaki and see in person how well she and the ships of the Wasp ARG can operate together,” said McGovern. “Our ability to work and train together with our JMSDF partners is a key enabler that ensures security and stability in the Indo-Pacific Region.” Units in the Wasp ARG include the USS Wasp (LHD 1), amphibious transport dock USS Green Bay (LPD 20), and amphibious assault ship USS Ashland (LSD 48).
