Gran Muralla China (China)

Taj Mahal (India)

Leomlott a világhírű Taj Mahal két minarettje
A másik ledőlt torony a déli bejáratot díszítette.
A szakemberek már megkezdték a helyreállítást.
A 17. században a Jamuna folyó partján fehér márványból emelt Tádzs Mahal messze a legismertebb indiai építmény.

Sheesh Mahal

The Splendid Beauty within Agra Fort – The Sheesh Mahal
The Agra Fort is a historical fortress located in Agra, India. The place was resided by the Mughal Emperors until 1638, after which the capital was shifted from Agra to Delhi. The Agra Fort is a ‘UNESCO’ certified ‘World Heritage Site’. The Fort has an area of about 94 acres (380000 square-meter) including Sheesh Mahal and coordinated at 27.179542°N 78.021101°E. The walls surrounding the fort are 70 feet high. It had been provided with four gates namely Khizri Gate, Delhi Gate, Lahore gate, and the Amar Singh gate. Delhi Gate being the largest among the four.
Sheesh Mahal – history and architecture
Towards the north-east corner of the Fort in the lower area is located the marvelous architecture, Sheesh Mahal or Palace of Mirrors. It is so named because of its fine prolific adornment of mirrors on the arches, ceilings and walls with asymmetrical geometric and flower patterns in broad‘stucco relief’ work coating the ceilings and walls. Most of the ‘glass work’ wasbrought into place by the Department of Archaeological Survey of India in 1978-81. This creates a visually attractive scene when the candles are lighted. It was established in 1637 and served the purpose of a palatial bath of Khas Mahal. It comprised of two chambers. The inner chamber has a marble tank with a fountain and apsidal ends and the second chamber has also a similar tank. Originally the ‘stucco reliefs’ were painted with gold and mirror. The chamber floor had white marble. The glass mosaic decoration was done in the Khas Mahal buildings of Shah Jahan. Abdul Hamid throughhis work “Shah Burj”, has mentioned the use of mirror work in Hammams,GarmKhana, Sardkhana and the Shish Mahal. Further mention of its decoration is in the Hammam-i-Shahi. Right opposite to the hall of the ‘DaulatKhana-i-Khas’ there is another Hall, adjacent to which there is a Hammam consisting of buildings which overlook the river Jamuna. There is garden at the base of the ‘Jharoka-Darshan’ and many more on the river side. The artisans have executed their work, on its interior and exterior, inlay relief, glass mosaics and other wonderful works. The arches and the doors having Aleppo glasses added to the beauty. The glass work in the Agra Fort has fortunately survived in the Shish Mahal on the most sumptuous scale. The mural glass decoration in its interior (ainabandi) is undoubtedly the best of its kind in India. The Shish-Mahal is consists of two enormous halls of similar size, each measuring 11 m. by 6.5 m.The glass mosaic consists of ‘stucco relief’ work in the form of ‘guldastas’ with natural leaves and flowers sculpted magnificently out of the typically Indian ‘kalasa’ with or without glass work, creating a gorgeously superb effect. It has been produced with ‘lakhauri’ bricks with a layer of fine lime-plaster mixed with gypsum which showed extra-ordinary strength and shine.
Popular culture
The Fort won the ‘Aga Khan Award’ for its masterpiece architecture in 2004. India Post issued a stamp to celebrate this event. The Agra Fort plays a key role in the story ‘The Sign of the Four’, by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The music video for Habibi Da, a hit song of Egyptian pop star Hisham Abbas, features the Agra fort. As per the "Treaty of Purandar (1665)", Shivaji entered into with MirzaRajeJaisingh to meet Aurangzeb in the Diwan-i-Khas. Read the full article

The Mystery of The Black Taj Mahal | Facto - Facts
Tumblr media
The Black Taj Mahal needs no introduction as it is one of the greatest monuments ever built in the history of mankind and also for the fact that it is one of the Seven Wonders of the World. What most of you might not be knowing is the fact that there was a black Taj Mahal in the making which had all the same dimensions of the original Taj Mahal, albeit the color. It is one of the mysteries in India that has attracted quite a lot of attention in the past as well. In the book “Les Six Voyage De Jean Baptiste Tavernier” it was mentioned that more than twenty thousand workers worked day and night for more than 22 years to complete the work of one of the most amazing pieces of architecture this world has witnessed. The cost, labor and the hour spend on Taj Mahal were enormous. When Shah Jahan completed his work on the Taj Mahal which he dedicated to the love of his life, his wife, MumTaj, he decided that he would build a similar structure, but in black color, as his tomb, where he wishes to rest after his death. But the relations and the kind of war he had with his sons never made this idea of his complete and Aurangzeb, who reigns at present, is not disposed to complete it. Must Read: Mystery of the Great Pyramids: Engineered Beyond Perfection! The historians believed that Shah Jahan wanted a building exactly same as Taj Mahal in order to give the world a perfect example of two tombs. His plan was to build it on the other side of the river for himself resting-in-peace. British archaeologist, Mr. Archibald Carlyle has also mentioned in one of his reports on the authenticity of the idea that Shah Jahan indeed had this in mind and Carlyle stated – “This garden enclosure, now a mere waste piece of ground, though it now bears the name of Mahtab Khan, is, without a doubt, the site on which Shah Jahan intended to have built a mausoleum for himself, to correspond to that of his queen, namely, the Taj Mahal opposite.” Percy Brown had also expressed his view on The Black Taj Mahal in the year 1943: “That it was Shah Jahan’s intention to duplicate the entire scheme of the Taj by the erection of another mausoleum in black marble to enshrine his own remains, on the opposite bank of the Jamuna and to connect the two by a bridge, seems fairly well established. The former emperor began to build his own tomb on the other side of the river, but the war which he had with his son interrupted his plan, and Aurangzeb, who reigns at present, is not disposed to complete it.” Though, the mystery of the Black Taj Mahal still stands as one of the unsolved mysteries India and whether the emperor had all the plans for it or it got shelved because some associates of the emperor saw this as Emperor’s foolishness to put so much money into something that they thought was not worth. We all know that if it would have been made, we would have had two structures from India in the Seven Wonders of the World. Read the full article

Taj Mahal by Sahir Ludhianvi
The Taj, may be, to you, a symbol of love supreme You may hold this beauteous garden in great esteem; Yet, my love, meet me hence at some other place! How odd for the poor folk to frequent royal resorts; ‘Tis strange that the amorous souls should tread the regal paths Trodden once by mighty kings and their proud consorts. Behind the facade of love my dear, you had better see The marks of imperial might that herein lie screen’d You who take delight in tombs of kings deceased, Should have seen the hovels dark where you and I did wean. Countless men in this world must have loved and gone, Who dares say their loves weren’t truthful or strong? But in the name of their loves, no memorial is raised For they too, like you and me, belonged to the common throng.
These structures and sepulchres, these ramparts and forts, These relics of the mighty dead are
No more than cancerous tumours on the face of the earth, Fattened on our ancestor’s very blood and bones. They too must have loved, my love, whose hands had made This marble monument, nicely chiselled and shaped But their dear ones lived and died, unhonoured, unknown, None burnt even a lamp on their lowly graves.
This bank of Jamuna, this edifice, these groves and lawns, These carved walls and doors, arches and alcoves, An emperor on the strength of wealth, Has played with us a cruel joke. Meet me hence, my love, at some other place.
