It's Lea that opens the door. She looks surprised to see Wright, and holsters the pistol she'd been holding. "Hi- everything okay?"

frankcore june 2024 update!!

these keep coming out later and later with each month lmfao whatever. very much loaded with pop and adjacent sounds because hey, album of the year dropped, gotta rep it. some modern forms of hip hop here, some electronic stuff there, the usual stuff.

on the pop front: as i said, album of the year dropped, and while i could've chosen a lot of tracks off the regular version of the album, i ended up going with spring breakers because it works well to represent the ethos of the album and also appeals to me enjoying a mostly trashy late-00s / early-10s electropop sound. in the same vein, debut single from the collaboration of argentinian producers and singers estratosfera and qiri presents a lot of the same flare but slightly more subdued, closer to a more apathetic electroclash-esque aesthetic in a way; in regards to sounds closer to the original bubblegum bass sound, we get a revival of sorts with a few influences of hardstyle here and there from growing figure in the underground 2hollis, as well as the first of probably several posthumous sophie releases, with one of her most eagerly awaited tracks by the fans and a classic pc-music-adjacent pop sound that still works wonderfully, even after years of being in the vault. a couple of pop legends here, i actually listened to confessions on a dance floor in full for the first time and hey, it's a great record still and all of its singles are bonafide hits, and we also got robyn featuring on a single for jamie xx's upcoming album, bringing a lot of energy with a classic house beat filled with irresistible horn lines and shuffling rhythms. in a more r&b-inspired tinge, i went back to sumin's excellent "your home" album, an incredible blend of electronic idioms into classic r&b songwriting, as well as the newest single from tinashe's upcoming project, going for a more nocturnal, clubbier vibe than the surprise juggernaut hit nasty, very excited for the full album. we've also got some pop that somewhat falls under the parameters of the indie umbrella, with the charming, beautiful and comfy cámara lenta from latin-american pop legend javiera mena, some indietronica sounds from broadcast (finally getting into them proper, great album) and former hero (very much a modern take into the sound more inspired by mainstream edm tropes, in this case, taking a more midtempo prog house approach which i'm always a fan of), wonderfully jaunty jangle pop revival from fontaines d.c. and absolutely enchanting folk pop / singer-songwriter crossover sounds straight out of the 70s from jessica pratt.

on the hip hop front: keeping up to date with the modern developments of soundcloud-rap-adjacent sounds, we've got wokeups putting autotune to its limits and using that technology in an exciting and unique way, uk mcs yt and lancey foux delivering an absolute banger and contributing to the consolidation of the jerk sound, akriila and taichu bringing an industrial perreo rush of agression with maddeningly catchy hooks and lines that laps at just shy of two minutes of runtime, and iceboy violet and nueen presenting a mystifying fusion of ambient sound design and more subdued rap delivery. in somewhat less modern offerings, a surprising meetup of ed banger producer mr. flash with cities aviv, action bronson and oh no, which aren't mcs you typically see join forces very often, delivering a chipmunk-soul-esque hip hop joint, and dean blunt and dj escrow's babyfather putting their hands on lethargic r&b duo 18+'s drama, built on a mesmerizing sample and escrow's classic spoken word delivery.

on the electronic front: blood of aza and s280f delivering their signature post-club, collage-like sound in a particularly arresting manner, kamixlo presenting a surprising foray into idm and techno idioms that works very well for someone like me that isn't particularly enamored by either sound, the return of edm trap legend rustie with a track more akin to the post-trance excursions of producers like evian christ (a sound always most welcome), former noisia member thys dropping a footwork jungle banger with signature chopped up vocal lines and rolling drum lines, and closing up the list, dazegxd's take on bunny general's mek them rock, an acapella i really like and that works wonderfully with the current developments of jungle. in a semi-related note, the one outlier on the list this month, kieran hebden (aka four tet)'s incursion into jazzier sounds of rock with a particularly inviting and enveloping ten minute opus.

This month was an exploration into an idea initially explored in September 2021 centered around this idea of music that represents the future. It was tied more deeply, though, to the type of experience that connects immigrants, immigrant kids, and people of color and attempting to pin it down. It was my first time living in my apartment in Chinatown during the Lunar New Year and there was an air of celebration around me. It was nice feeling connected to a celebration of culture; despite only having a small amount of Chinese heritage, being in that jovial space and feeling connected to it through that thing that links all of us POCs was special.

February also saw the return to live DJing as places were starting to feel more comfortable opening up again. We had our Cosmoglitch party at Purgatory and to this day it remains one of the most fun DJ sets I’ve ever done. I went b2b with Lissoms and people were dancing so hard the whole time. We also had our planetqueer fresh beginnings party at Bar Jade which I closed out, playing from 3-4am. It was really fun going deep for that set and having a solid crowd still there for the end. We packed out Bar Jade that night, and it was a super validating experience as a DJ as well as an organizer for planetqueer.

The vibe for this month fully formed after seeing Four Tet do a surprise show at Nowadays on Sunday, February 20th. After the show, my friend Emil and I stayed up until the sun rose and talked about “the thing.” It’s hard to describe, but it’s the feeling you get when you’re around another POC/queer person/working class person or whatever where you don’t have to explain yourself. It’s that shared understanding that we’re a new generational wave that bears the weight of survival trauma in addition to the need to self-actualize. The Year of the Space Tiger represents that courageous push towards the future to define a new reality built for us, by us.

You were scared to tell him. Hell, it was one of his favourite things in the world, and you were about to rip it away from him. But you need to tell him sooner rather than later. And if he didn’t want you after that...then that’s not your fault. Was it?

“Hey baby doll, I’m home.” Lance says, his eyes lighting up at the sight of you on the couch, curled up in a blanket.

“Hi.” You say shortly, your nerves almost cutting off your sentence. His eyebrows furrow as he drops his keys onto the hall stand.

“You alright, doll?” His voice changes from teasing to a little more gentle, coming to sit on the arm of the sofa. You tense instantly, because god, you really do have to tell him.

“I…” You pause, tilting your head up to look at him nervously. You can feel stupid tears pricking at your eyes as all you see in his is adoration.

He brushes a stray lock of hair from your skin, his face falling at the sight of tears forming in your eyes. “Doll, talk to me. What’s up?”

You have to get it over and done with before you start crying so hard that you aren’t coherent.

“I’m asexual. I-I don’t h-have sexual attraction to anyone and I hope that doesn’t change...” You trail off when you see his face begin to twist into something you can’t bear to see. Confusion, anger, betrayal, disgust, and your heart begins to pick up.

“I-I’m sorry.” You manage to choke out, before dashing out of the living room and into your bedroom, shutting the door with quivering hands. You didn’t want to see what his expression would develop into. 

Fuck, now he’s gonna dump you, you shut your eyes tight, clutching a pillow to your chest. You love Lance, so much, and it would hurt you so goddamn much if he left you. But you did sort of expect him to be unwilling to let go of one his favourite things in the world - sex.

A few minutes tick by, and there’s radio silence. What if he left already? a niggling voice says at the back of your mind, and you let out a soft sob at the thought.

Suddenly, a quiet knock sounds on the door and you jump, your breath hitching.

“Y/N? Baby doll?”

You sit up straight at the use of your pet name, before you hear Lance clear his throat.

“I...can I come in?”

You nod, before realising that he can’t see you. “Y-yes.” Your voice cracks a little, but he comes in regardless.

He doesn’t look angry, and doesn’t have that expression on his face that you had seen the beginnings of earlier. Lance sits next to you, and doesn’t hesitate to wrap his arms around you, to your surprise.

After a few moments of quiet, he tilts your head towards him. “Hey, I’m sorry I made that...that face earlier. I didn’t mean to look like I was disgusted, because fuck, baby, I’m not disgusted at all.”

“Really?” You can’t help but say, and he smiles, pressing a kiss to the tip of your nose.

“No, never. I’m just disgusted at myself, for forcing you into doing it when you didn’t…”

You shake your head vigorously. “No, you didn’t force me, Lance. You did nothing wrong, it was me that...that was wrong.”

He huffs, pulling you closer. “Baby girl, you’re not wrong at all. Asexuality is perfectly normal, so is aromanticism and all those other things. I was just a little...shocked, is all.” He gives you a rueful smile, and you can feel yourself relax, every second that passes.

“You seem to know a lot about these things.”

Lance shrugs, hand slowly carding through your hair. “Yeah, well, my gymnastics team is made up of teenage girls, I gotta know some things about it.” He says breezily.

“So...you won’t leave me?” You ask quietly, and you can see his eyes widen as he inhales sharply.

“What? Why the hell would I leave you, baby girl?” His voice is bordering on having an edge, as if appalled by the idea.

You drag your gaze away from his, looking down at your lap. “B-because I don’t really enjoy h-having sex, and that’s-that’s one of your favourite things to do. Also because I’m not...sexually attracted to you.”

“Oh, baby.” He breathes, at the sound of your shaky voice, and he gently kisses your hair. “Yes, I do like it, but it isn’t everything. I’d rather have you, my beautiful girl, than all the orgasms in the world.”

“Lance!” You exclaim at his words and he chuckles, rolling his eyes.

“You get my drift. But honestly, baby, I literally do not care less about sex, when I have you in my arms. You’re more than enough. And I don’t know why you’d think otherwise.” He says softly, pulling off his track jacket to wrap it around your bare shoulders.

“Thank you, Lancey.”

Lance’s smile widens. “Don’t thank me, thank you for telling me, doll. I wouldn’t survive without you.” He kisses you, his lips moving against yours and you sigh contently.

“I think you would.” You breathe, after pulling away.

He shakes his head, grinning. “No, I would not.”

A artista enfrenta uma briga na Justiça para ter o direito de administrar sua carreira e seu dinheiro, que estão sob a tutela do pai, Jamie Spears, desde 2008. Em uma audiência na última quarta-feira, 23, Britney fez uma série de revelações sobre a situação e afirmou ser obrigada a fazer turnês e proibida de engravidar, tendo que usar DIU contra sua vontade. A projeção em Brasília chamou atenção e fez sucesso nas redes sociais. Madu Krasny, mestre de cerimônias do 18º Seminário LGBTQIA+ no Congresso, informou que a projeção foi uma das ações do evento. “Acontece que o #FreeBritney foi apenas uma das frases projetadas, tem muitas outras. Lea is the one who comes to the door.

"Hey hun, come on in." She holds the door open for him with a small smile. "Just made some spaghetti for lunch- you're welcome to have some if you'd like."

Memphis is in a chair across from her, reading a book.

There’s a knock on the door before it opens. Ridgey and a new person enter. “Doctor Lancey? I have someone to introduce you to.”

In the break room, the karaoke night at LABS went well. Jamie met some subjects and doctors— the night shift people seem less tight than the day shift.

[Jamie let herself relax a little- not letting her guard down by any means, but taking a break from the usual work. She even sang a few songs.]

A couple hours have past and it’s the end of the day. The sun as set and the night shift as taken over to watch over the subjects. Wilson finished filling out forms and is ready to submit them, but he needs his doctor to “okay” the last two ones.

He brings another round of warm strawberry and peach tea and left-over meatloaf from lunch for her. Who knows when the last she ate.

Jamie laid in bed, eyes open but not moving; staring at the ceiling of her childhood bedroom. She felt so far from that bright little girl now. It didn't even feel like the same lifetime...

She should be feeling ecstatic, free- but all she could feel was the crushing, overwhelming weight of guilt. She did something horrible, unforgivable- and now that everything was over, she finally had time to hate herself for it.

She'd dragged her best friend back into hell, tortured and tested him, tested others, smiled and talked to the monster that ran that organization like a friend, ordered someone to be killed-

"Hey, Darling?"

She snapped out of the daze she was in, glancing over at Lea, who was standing in the doorway. Jamie couldn't seem to force a response past her lips.

Lea walked over, taking one of Jamie's hands gently in her own. "How're you feeling? You want some food? A shower?"

Jamie stared blankly, unsure. Eventually, she held up two fingers- a shower.

Lea nodded in understanding, squeezing Jamie's hand. "Should I go?"

Jamie hesitated. 'You don't deserve her. You don't deserve the comfort she gives you, how soft she is with you, how-'

"My darling, come back to me, please?" Lea could practically see the thoughts in her lover's head. "I don't mind staying with you if you'd like me to. I just want to make sure you're comfortable. Let yourself be comfortable, please?"

Jamie blinked, focusing back on Lea. She can't not listen to her... She nods.

"You want me with you?"

Jamie nods again, sitting up.

Lea brushes some hair out of her face and kisses her forehead. "I cannot tell you how happy I am to have you home."

She leans into the touch, and after a few moments, starts to cry.

Lea wraps her arms around Jamie and pulls her close. "I've got you. I've got you."

“It’s been years.” Jamie sighed, fidgeting with the star necklace that she still wore. “I really don’t even remember what it’s like to live without wondering… wondering…”

“If they’re coming back?”

Jamie choked back a sob at Lea’s words. “yeah..”

“Oh, darling..” Lea squeezed Jamie’s hand as she held it. 

Jamie took a deep breath and let it out. “Sometimes I wonder if it would’ve been better if I’d never taken them in. He’s my best friend, Lea, truly, but- sacrificing for him spiraled into sacrificing for… for so many others. Once, I told him that I was going to go and kill the people in charge of LABS, and he stopped me. Not because he felt bad about killing them, or even to keep me safe, no. He stopped me because he’d suffered more than I had under them and he wanted to do it himself.”

“And he-”

“He never did. Clearly.” Hundreds of words Jamie wanted to say to him caught in her throat, in a space somewhere between love and anger. “So now we’re both suffering, years later. That’s not fair. I’m- I’m so sick of being scared for him, and for the others, and now for you and Aves- I can’t keep doing this, Lea. I can’t.”

“I know, darling. I know.” Lea lifted Jamie’s hand and pressed a soft kiss to the back of it. “You have every right to do whatever it takes to put an end to this. I will be by your side through it all.”

“I’m going to have to kill people. I know you understand that. This is… this is far beyond my comfort zone, to say the very least.”

Lea wrapped an arm around Jamie and pulled her close, tracing circles on her back. “You and I both know you wouldn’t hurt anyone without a reason.”

Jamie nodded, leaning against Lea. “I’ve done the research. I know where to find each of them- and for such an extensive operation, there aren’t many people actually in charge. Ninety-nine percent or more of LABS is made up of people who are forced to be there. So many have suffered- are suffering. I’ve been trying to save them all one by one, and-” She does break into sobs now. “I’ve been doing this self-sacrificial bullshit for so long that it’s expected of me now. Wright called me a few months back, angry at me for not trying to kill a fucking demon because they hurt someone I didn’t even know existed. He wouldn’t back down, even after I told him that trying to kill someone like Anti would only end with me and everyone I love dead.”

Lea wiped the tears away from Jamie’s cheeks gently, listening.

“And not too long ago, he would’ve given anything to keep me from harm. I.. I don’t understand. It’s like some kind of switch flipped, like he got so used to me doing everything I could to keep him safe that he expects that of me in any scenario.” Jamie shook her head, burying her face in Lea’s shoulder. “I don’t know if stopping LABS will help with that- that- whatever part of his brain that sees me like that. Like a fucking martyr.”

“You care a lot about each other. Anyone can see that. It will work out, James. I promise. It’ll be okay.”
