Back Off: Jake x Reader
A/N: I have writer’s block for part two of the twin’s fight sooo enjoy this one shot until then :)
Your management teams had decided it was a good idea for your band to collaborate with Greta Van Fleet. At first, you all had agreed until it became apparent that you and Jake would never get along. The first week went by pretty well as you all worked on lyrics and different songs, giving each other feedback. When you made a suggestion about a riff Jake was working on, he rolled his eyes and ignored you entirely. You didn’t let it bother you and tried to let it roll off your back, but the thought the Jake wasn’t impressed by your talent or valued your input bothered you a bit.
At the start of the next week, your band recorded an EP track to see how you liked it. After you had finished, all of you sat down to talk through what could be done to improve it and make it award worthy. The constructive process was going well until Sam complimented your riff. Before you could offer your thanks, Jake let out a small sarcastic laugh before leaning back.
“What,” you said with a touch of venom as you narrowed your eyes at him. Not being one to back down from a challenge he returned the glare and licked his lips before speaking.
“Nothing,” Jake said with a dismissive shrug of his shoulders before stretching his arms along the back of the couch he was sitting on, Josh on his left and Danny to his right. Your band mates shared looks of confusion with the other boys at the stare down they were all witnessing.
“Nothing,” you questioned with a lift of your brow matching his energy.
“Yeah. That riff? Made me feel nothing. That was just music on a page.”
Stunned silence filled the room and everyone’s mouths dropped open at the sudden and rude comment. Your mind started racing.
That riff wasn’t there until you had all performed today. In fact, it was a completely organic composition. You didn’t know how to write a riff and you couldn’t even read fucking sheet music. You only knew how to play.
Before you could stop yourself, you were on your feet and so was Jake. Both of you were yelling at each other and really giving each other hell. Finally, the rest of the group got you separated, but the damage had already been done.
The fighting didn’t stop as a whole, but after Danny lost his shit, the yelling eventually did. You both still found the time to be sarcastic assholes and refused to work together unless absolutely forced. On the rare occasions you two didn’t try to kill each other, whatever you came up with was pretty cool, but those moments were short lived. After about a month of the group collaboration, your management teams informed all of you that they had lined up an interview and stressed the importance of it.
“We know some of you...don’t see eye to eye,” your manager, Kara, said carefully while everyone looked directly at you and Jake,”but you’re going to be in partners for this interview and we’re grouping you based on instrument.”
“See, vocals are an instrument Sam,” Josh taunted while his youngest brother rolled his eyes.
You and Jake shared a pained look at the thought of having to sit near each other.
“Do we have to get along during the interview,” you asked as you flipped your hair over your shoulder.
“Yes. You do. So, Josh and Kaylie will go first on Friday. Sammi and Sammy will go next. Then, Danny and Elise. We’ll finish up with y/n and Jake. The interviews should only be 5-10 minutes, so please refrain from killing each other,” Mike, the other manager said. You and Jake shared another look; one that clearly said there were no promises.
The week flew by and next thing you knew, you were sitting in a hair and makeup chair getting finishing touches done. All of your other friends had finished and based off their laughter, it seemed to have went really well. Apparently, your Sammi and Greta Van Fleet’s Sammy were pure chaos which didn’t surprise any of you. It must have had something to do with the name you supposed.
Once you had finished up, you made your way to the chair next to Jake who was waiting on you and apparently trying hard to not look impatient. When he saw you, his eyes widened a bit before he motioned to your seat. Once you had gotten comfortable, he sat down.
“Sorry,” you said to him quietly. This was actually the first time you two had sat next to each other and you could smell his cologne and shampoo. He was an ass to you, but you couldn’t deny that he was attractive. But his attitude? Atrocious.
You fidgeted slightly in your seat to get comfortable for the interview. Suddenly, you both heard the countdown to cue you in and you both began to smile and do the intro.
“Hi! I’m y/f/n y/l/n!”
“And I’m Jake Kiszka!”
“This is our Rockin and Rolling Interview,” you two chorused together. Apparently, you two could be a dynamic duo when you tried hard enough.
The interviewer started asking various questions about stage outfits, hair and makeup, new albums and tour dates which were pretty typical interview topics. You and Jake played your parts and were both equally surprised at your shared sense of humor. You were enjoying yourself when the prying questions started.
When the interview started, you didn’t really notice that weird glimmer in the male interviewer’s eyes or the way he stared at your exposed legs or where the hem of your shorts hit on your thighs. Jake had noticed that a lot of the questions were directed more towards you and he figured it was just to help your band get out there more. More importantly, none of the others had mention weird vibes or the guy being a creep, but you couldn’t deny that you were inexplicably uncomfortable.
“So, y/n, what is it like being single and working with the guys,” the interviewer asked. Your back went ramrod straight as you realized you were cruising in dangerous territory. Jake glanced at you out of the corner of his eye.
“What does her relationship status have to do with anything,” Jake asked with his eyes narrowed slightly in confusion and the beginning stages of irritability. The next few questions were about zodiac sign compatibility and other flirtatious avenues of discussion and you were finally 100% sure that he was making you uncomfortable. At one point he had asked for how many people you had slept with.
“I’m sorry, but I’m not comfortable answering such personal questions. I think I’m-,” you began to say as you stood up to place the microphone down. Before you could even fully raise out of your set, the interviewer had grabbed you by your arm and yanked your body towards his. You let out a yelp as a warm muscular body wedged itself between you and the weird ass interviewer.
Jake placed a protective hand on your stomach and pushed you back gently putting more space between you and who he perceived as a threat. Without thinking, you put your hand in the middle of his back, right on his spine as you scooted further behind him.
“Back off,” Jake growled out with a scowl. Before the guy could respond, Jake spun to face you, placing his hand in the small of your back before leading you away. You were shaking and tears pricked at your lower lash line, but you willed yourself not to cry.
When you two had made it back to the makeup room where you had all gotten ready, everyone jumped up when they say the look on both of your faces. Kara and Mike tried to ask questions as you grabbed your things, clearly ignoring them.
“We’re leaving right now and that interview had better not fucking air,” Jake practically yelled as he fumed. You two could hear the male interviewer approaching the room you all were in and Jake turned to face the door quickly, blocking you from his view.
“Get him away from her or I’m going to rock his fucking shit. We’re leaving. Now.”
Nobody else held up your mad dash for the SUV outside waiting and already running. Once you were safely secure between, Jake and Josh in the middle row you put your head in your hands while questions flew your way.
“What happened?!”
“Y/n, are you okay?”
“Why were you going to deck him, Jake,” Danny finally questioned and everyone sat in stunned silence that Jake had threatened to hurt someone over you. You were still shaken up and felt a sense of relief when Jake took over telling the story.
All you could really think about was his hand in the small of your back and hot he looked pissed. Even more than that, the first feelings of fondness for Jake danced in your stomach. It felt a lot like butterflies.

Lovesick Songs
Tumblr media
Pairing: Jake Kiszka x (F) Reader
Word Count: 1581
Warnings: get ready for your heart to ache.
Requested by a lovely anon, thank you so much. This one kind of got away from me so I apologize if it’s a little less jubilant than you intended. I was in a mood when I wrote it. And now I only have myself to blame for yearning for this exact scenario.
Note: on yet another read, I totally did not engage in giggling, lighthearted fun, but I hope you can forgive me. I need to wrangle in my yearning...
---
Hanging out with Jake was one of your favorite things in the world--after all, he was one of your closest friends. You could have fun with him doing just about anything--getting coffee, even though he would harp on you about going to chain coffee shops because they don’t have the “right” beans; kicking a soccer ball around in the backyard when boredom had superseded everything else; baking cookies or brownies or whatever other mixes you could find in the middle of the night when you couldn’t sleep.
Jake was fun. Jake was fun and you loved him, loved him more than you knew you should and, as you two had gotten older, there were fewer fun times with just the two of you. At first it was okay, since you loved Josh, Sam and Danny too, but then Jake started getting girlfriends, or at least girls he was hanging out with who weren’t you, and he was busy with them, or he’d bring them around to hang out with all of you. You weren’t so fond of that. It was hard to see him with his arm around someone else; hard to see him kiss a girl, as you’d imagined him kissing you a thousand times.
But Jake had been single for a little while--finally--after a string of girlfriends that, for one reason or another, just didn’t work out. You jumped at the opportunity to have some alone time with him, and there he was, kneeling on your floor and looking through the crates of records in your living room.
“How do you not have any Eric Clapton?” he asked, his fingers rifling through the records quickly. “How have I not given you any Eric Clapton?”
You sank down next to him. “How have I not told you I don’t actually like Eric Clapton?”
Jake turned to you, pursing his lips and raising his eyebrows. “How dare you, Y/N.”
You snickered and leaned over him to grab the record you knew you wanted to play, your hip brushing against his shoulder. “You’ll like this, I promise,” you told him, standing up and taking the record out of its sleeve. When the music started to play, with its airy drums, languid guitar and bluesy vocals, you bobbed your head and then went to the kitchen. “Want a beer?”
“Please,” Jake called back. He was sitting on the couch when you returned, handing him the bottle, and he held it up to you. “Cheers.”
“Cheers,” you agreed, clinking his. “To drinking beer on a Sunday afternoon.”
He laughed. “It’s pouring outside. I think we’re justified.”
You took a sip. “I agree.”
As the first song led into the second, Jake nodded. “I do like this, actually. What’s the band?”
“Alabama Shakes,” you answered, smiling triumphantly to yourself. “I told you.”
Jake smiled to himself, looking out the window, slightly bobbing his head to the music, too. You watched him as unobtrusively as you could, just wanting to look at his face. You loved his face. You loved his dark eyes and how they flashed hazel in the light; his cute nose, and you imagine how that would feel gently nudging against you if he ever kissed you; the carved cheekbones and carved brows to match, his face all angular yet so soft at the same time.
He caught your glance and chuckled. “What are you looking at?”
You looked away. “Nothing, Jake. Sure as hell wasn’t looking at you,” you said mockingly.
He laughed and put his hand on your thigh, though he quickly removed it and gestured to your beer. “Hey, finish that. I don’t want to be ahead of you all day.”
“I’ll finish it,” you said, picking it up and working on the last bit. “But you have to dance with me.”
Jake stood up, taking your hand, and brought you to the center of the living room. The rain was coming down hard, pattering against the windows and the roof, intercepting the sound of the music. But when you both started to sway, a little awkwardly, trying to work into a groove, the rain felt faraway. You were looking at Jake, watching him move, and letting yourself get loose. It took a minute but then your body was fluid with the song, your muscles light and free. Jake was dancing a little stiffly still, so you took his hands and moved him along with you.
“I haven’t danced in a long time,” he said, glancing down at the floor before looking up at you again.
“You never danced with your girlfriends?” you asked, not meaning to pry but feeling genuinely curious. It wasn’t often you and Jake danced either--it was more often than not you and Josh--but you knew if you were dating Jake, you’d want to be dancing with him all the time.
His cheeks flushed a bit, from embarrassment or the exertion of dancing you weren’t sure, and squeezed your hands before putting his on your waist. “Not really,” he answered. “Should I have?”
Jake’s hands on your waist had changed the tempo of your movements, so you placed your hands on his shoulders and kept your hips swaying. “Well, I really like dancing with you,” you replied. “Even if you sort of suck at it.”
He bit his bottom lip and gently pinched your side. “Maybe that’s why I don’t dance, Y/N.”
The next song began and as soon as you heard the first few lyrics you felt yourself blush, your grip on Jake’s shoulders wavering.
How was I supposed to know you was a heartbreaker?
I didn't know, I couldn't know.
Jake kept his eyes on you, though you preoccupied yourself with the floor for a moment, but when you looked up you met his gaze. He moved in close to you, wrapping his arms around your waist and resting his head on your shoulder.
Was it by your sweet face or your eyes?
Oh, Lord, how was I supposed to know you gimme my heart aching?
You stilled for a second, confused by his actions. Jake had never been a touchy feely friend, as much as you’d always wanted him to be. You always knew he never liked you in that way. It was other girls he put his arms around, other girls whose hair his fingers trailed through, and you were always wanting to be those girls.
Mama couldn't tell me about the feeling,
and all them lovesick songs,
well, they got true meaning.
When Jake stayed like that, gently swaying with you with his body flat against yours, his arms around you and his face against your neck, you weakened. Your arms moved from frigid on his shoulders to around his back, lightly digging your nails into his shoulder blade, your other hand was seemingly unable to stop itself from going for his hair, running your fingers through it, down his back. You rested your head on his shoulder, the two of you almost becoming one totally meshed form, and breathed in the scent of his hair and his skin, a deep sensory experience you felt you’d waited forever for.
You both were lost in the moment, just gently swaying and holding each other until the song ended. When it did, Jake eased back, moving one hand back down to your waist and the other one to the back of your neck, looking at you intently.
“Jake--” you started to say but stopped yourself. It would be a confession of your feelings if you kept talking and, even with whatever all that was, you didn’t think he felt the same. You sighed and stepped back. “Want another drink?”
As soon as you turned around you felt Jake’s hand on your wrist, then his arms were back around you, his hands over your chest, his chin on your shoulder. “You don’t want to keep dancing?” he asked softly, enveloping your even tighter, sighing against your neck.
You reached up and laid your hands over his. You’d imagined a moment not unlike that one before and the real-life, tactile experience of it was overwhelming. “Yeah, Jake,” you answered, lacing your fingers together. “I want to keep dancing.”
He began to sway again and hummed quietly against your neck, his lips so close to your skin that you felt your heart ache. You went with him, moving your hips, the music still playing, though you started to sway to the rhythm of his heart against your back instead, listening to his soft breaths next to your ear.
“I think I only like dancing with you,” he whispered, nudging some of your hair away with his nose so his mouth was actually against your skin. “I’d like to do it again sometime.”
Your heart felt like it was going to stop entirely. You took a breath, your chest rising and falling under his hands, and turned your cheek a little to try and get a glimpse of him. “I would love that, Jake,” you replied, reaching one hand up to run through his hair and pause on the back of his neck. “You’re actually a really good dancer.”
You felt him smile against your skin, keeping one hand flat on your chest as the other ran up to your throat, then your jaw. He gently eased your face closer to his, you giving in with your whole body feeling completely enraptured by him, and placed a soft, lingering kiss to your cheek. “You’re better.”

Josh was wailing into the microphone and Sam was grooving out — clearly in the zone. Jake was shredding on his guitar and Danny was hitting the drums harder than ever. You never thought you’d actually be able to see Greta Van Fleet live and in the front row. To be so close to them felt like a dream; surreal and magical. They were giving it their all and you appreciated their determination to put on a good show for everyone. You were close enough that you could see the sweat glistening on their skin and their heaving breaths in between songs as they got more and more into it. Jake, in particular, was so sweaty that his long brown hair was sticking to his forehead; that didn’t seem to bother him, though. Jake actually caught your eye a couple of times and Josh smiled at you when he noticed you singing along to every song, even the covers. At one point, he actually pointed between you and your friend. Oh, yeah, Y/F/N: your best friend… and ex. You were so transfixed with what was happening on stage that you forgot you weren’t there alone. He pointed between the two of you with raised brows, silently asking if you were together, you assumed. “We’re here together, not actually together-together!” you yelled over the music —Jake’s searing guitar solo— shaking your head vehemently and making a cutting motion with your hand towards your neck. Y/F/N looked at you incredulously. Oops. Josh noticed the scalding look they shot you but his face lit up with the brightest smile you’d ever seen. You couldn’t believe that you caused this gorgeous rockstar to smile that big, that beautifully. You almost felt proud as your stomach fluttered, heat rose to your cheeks and not just because you had been rocking out so much in close proximity to other fans around you.
When the band finally came out for their encore, relief flooded your body. You were worried that might have been it and didn’t want it to end. Once again, the twins were interacting with you; smiling, winking and pointing at you throughout their final songs. Y/F/N was almost rolling their eyes, although they were a fan too. Probably just jealous that you were getting most of the attention. They were kind of possessive over you, despite the two of you not being in a romantic relationship for a couple of years now, and receiving flirtatious attention from other people… that really pissed them off.
Josh said his thank you’s and goodnight’s and the band left the stage, waving as they went. That was it this time. A sadness settled in your heart and you felt tears well up in your eyes. You were still squished up against the barricade waiting for everyone else to leave. “Excuse me?” The deep voice made you look up. A tall man dressed in all black, casual attire stood in front of you. “The band wants to know if you’d be interested in coming backstage.” Your eyes widened, “Of course, I mean- I’d be very interested-“ Taking a deep breath, you managed to stutter your final response. “Yes, I’d love to!” The man smiled at your eagerness and nodded towards one of the security guys to lift you up and over the barricade. Once you had made it to the other side, you remembered. “Wait!” This caused the man to stop in his tracks and turn back around to you. “Can my friend come with me? We came together, I don’t want to leave them.” He thought about it for a second. “Yeah, okay. I’m sure they won’t mind.” That same security guy helped YFN over the barricade and you followed the man through a door that wasn’t visible from out in the standing area. Both of you were led through a dark corridor which was narrow and dingy; this venue wasn’t the best. You were actually surprised that they were staying long enough to meet fans, and backstage of all places. When you reached a door with a piece of paper taped to it that read “Greta Van Fleet”, the realisation of what was about to happen hit you like a truck. There was no time to freak out before the door opened and Josh Kiszka was standing right in front of you, welcoming you inside.
-
The dressing room was small but there was enough room for a couch and some acoustic guitars they must have been jamming on before the show. An assortment of food and drink was spread out on the vanity table and there was a bathroom tucked away around a small corner. You were admiring the lights that lined the mirrors when Josh came up to you and handed you a full champagne flute. You thanked him and clinked your glasses together. “To showbiz!” He announced. You laughed and looked to the other boys who shot Josh confused looks. “Guys, the lights.” Nothing. “Like in showbiz?” Still nothing. “Ugh, it doesn’t matter.” He paused for a moment. “Oh! Okay, to Y/N!” They all cheered at that, raising their champagne and beer bottles in the air before taking sips, your best friend included. Y/F/N was a musician too and quickly got talking to Jake, Sam and Danny about their gear. It was nice to see them revelling in the attention and really genuinely making friends with the boys. Josh, on the other hand, was more interested in you. Why? You had no idea. Other than also being a singer, you didn’t think you had that much in common. He was attractive, though. There was no way you could deny that.
The rest of the guys and Y/F/N took up the couch space, starting to get into an impromptu jam session, strumming away on their guitars. Josh was humming and vocalising along, standing by you while you were perched on the arm of the couch. You watched as he closed his eyes, just following the chord progression. His eyelashes cast shadows under his eyes and his lips looked smooth and soft as he pursed them together, occasionally swiping his tongue across them. Your eyes moved down towards his body. He was still wearing his show outfit: the white jumpsuit with golden embroidery. It was gorgeous up close and also slightly more transparent… like, you could see everything. When you realised just how see-through and tight this outfit was, you let out a soft gasp, quickly averting your gaze. “You okay?” Shoot. Josh noticed. He wasn’t supposed to notice. The guys continued playing in the background. “Yeah, I’m fine. Great, actually. This is so fun.” You were willing the redness in your cheeks to go away but it was fairly warm in the cramped space. “I’m glad you’re having a good time.” Josh said, really looking at you this time, you could feel his eyes wandering all over your face. “Why did you ask me back here?” You had to know. “You seemed cool. Fun to hang out with.” He shrugged. “And I can confirm, you’re really cool.” “No one has ever called me cool before.” You were fully blushing now, no hiding it and unable to look him in the eye. He held his hand out to you and you almost went to shake it when you realised he was offering to help you up. You took his hand, his skin feeling as soft as it looked.
Josh guided you to the other side of the room. “Just thought it would be easier to talk here. I know there’s not much space and it’s still noisy but…” Josh trailed off, leaning against the wall. “Don’t worry about it. I’m happy to even be here.” You gushed and then tried to reel it in a little. “I mean, I didn’t think I’d be making new friends today, with you guys of all people.” “I did the second I saw you.” “Oh, really? A little presumptuous but okay.” You raised your eyebrow but giggled at his confession anyway. “Sorry, I don’t want to scare you off or anything. Just being honest.” “I like honesty. It’s the best policy, you know.” Josh chuckled at that and leaned into you, tucking your hair behind your ear. “How’s this for honesty? I find you insanely attractive.” he spoke softly. “What?” You were kind of taken aback, trying to wrap your head around what was happening. You glanced over to Y/F/N and the other guys, feeling like they could hear this entirely unexpected conversation. “Seriously, Y/N. Why did you think I asked if you two were together? I needed to know if you were available.” “Don’t get me wrong, Josh. I’m so attracted to you too but…” “But…?” “But I don’t know… I mean, what do you want out of this?” “Well—“ Josh started but you interrupted. “I also don’t want you to think that I do this thing often because I do not. I’m here for the music, I would have gone home after the gig if you hadn’t asked me back here. I just needed to clarify that before we go any further.” “I’m glad you didn’t. I’m glad you agreed to meet me. Or us. Whatever.” Josh was stuttering, realising that he was too forward and not wanting to make you uncomfortable. “Look, I really like you. If you want to be friends, that’s cool too. I just want to know you.” Your head was spinning. The music playing and Josh’s voice melding together along with a ringing in your ears. “Sorry, I’m feeling super overwhelmed right now, can I…?” You pointed towards the bathroom and Josh nodded and let you have some space.
-
The bathroom wasn’t as warm as the dressing room; you could feel yourself cooling down almost immediately. You splashed some water on your face before staring at yourself in the mirror. You hadn’t even thought about what you looked like: baby hairs sticking to your forehead with sweat from actually being at the show, clothes pretty casual because you decided to wear what was comfortable. Did Josh really want to know you? Or did he just want to get laid?
There was a knock at the door, interrupting your thoughts. “Come in.” You called and the door opened, revealing a sorry-looking Josh. You didn’t turn around, just looked at him behind you, through the mirror. “Hey, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to freak you out.” He apologised as he let the door click shut behind him, muffling the music being played in the dressing room. “Don’t be. It wasn’t you. Just a lot of things happening all at once; sensory overload.” You explained and let out a weak laugh. “Feeling a bit better now, though.” Josh made his way closer to you until his front was pressed against your back. “Can I make you feel even better?” He kept his voice low and it sounded like velvet, sending shivers down your spine. You let out a breath you didn’t even know you were holding and nodded, gazing at the irresistible rockstar as he nuzzled his face into your neck. “You smell so good.” “I smell like sweat.” You laughed again. “You smell like you. I like it.” He sounded sincere as he started to place wet kisses on your skin, hands wandering to your hips and squeezing. Your breathing hitched and you let Josh do his thing, just enjoying feeling him close to you. When he nipped at the skin below your ear, you let out a moan and felt him squeeze your hips harder. He spun you around to face him and you just went with your instincts.
Grabbing the back of his neck, you pulled him down into a searing kiss. Any caution you had before went out the window and you just wanted to feel all of him. When his tongue swiped your lip, you welcomed him in and ran your fingers through his curly hair, tugging at it. This made him moan quietly into your mouth and he moved his hands from your hips to your ass; squeezing some more as you caressed his torso. Your hand ran over the zipper of his jumpsuit and you stopped the kiss to look him in his eyes; silently asking if you could unzip it. Josh nodded eagerly and you wasted no time, pulling it down and pushing the top half of the jumpsuit off of his shoulders, revealing his toned torso. Josh caught your lips in another kiss while his hands wandered under your t-shirt. He hadn’t suggested or asked anything but you nodded and let out a muffled “mhm” against his lips when he brushed his hands over the back of your bra. He unclasped it with ease and moved away to help remove the clothes from your body, leaving them forgotten on the floor. “Fuck.” Josh breathed when he saw your naked chest. “Touch me. Please, Josh?” You didn’t have to ask him twice. He kissed along your jaw and down your neck as his hands squeezed your breasts, occasionally twisting and pulling at your nipples. His touch alone sent arousal straight to your heat. You bit down on your lip when Josh kissed down your sternum and all over your breasts. When he sucked one of your nipples into his mouth, you gripped onto his hair. Your grip tightened when he moved to the other one, it feeling more sensitive, causing you to whimper. Josh pressed his lips to your chest, up to your neck, jaw, then your mouth; capturing your lips in a needy kiss. He was grinding into your thigh and you could feel him hardening. You couldn’t resist and rested your hand on top of his bulge. He stopped kissing you and moaned at your touch, dropping his head on your shoulder. You took that as a cue and kissed down his chest, slowly getting down on your knees in front of him. His fingers tangled in your hair as he watched you pull the rest of his jumpsuit down his thighs, revealing that he wasn’t wearing underwear. You gasped when his cock sprang out of the confines of the fabric. “Hey, I’m supposed to be making you feel better.” Josh cupped your face, his pupils blown wide and a playful smile threatening to spread across his face. “This is making me feel better.” You replied, running your hands from his thighs, up to his nipples and back down again, just admiring him. His dick was stiff and girthy; the head pink and glistening with precum already. Your mouth was watering at the thought of tasting him.
Josh bucked into your hand before you could even stroke him properly. When you started stroking —slow and steady— he let his head fall back and groaned when you placed a kiss to the underside of his cock. You kitten licked there a few times before taking the head into your mouth; sucking and swirling your tongue while cradling his balls in your other hand and listening as his breathing became more erratic. You pulled your mouth off of the tip with a loud pop and covered your mouth as if that would stifle the sound. Josh shushed you but he was chuckling and shaking his head, his eyes dark but full of sparkle and joy. When you took all of him into your mouth, his grip on your hair tightened and you enjoyed him holding you and controlling the pace, thrusting gently into your mouth. He pulled you off of him by your hair and took your hands in his own to help you get up. “That felt so good, baby.” He whispered against your lips, caressing your body as he spoke. “Didn’t wanna cum yet.” You smiled and giggled as he spun you around again to face the sink, watching him in the mirror. You noticed his chest heaving up and down, face flushed and lips swollen; matching you. Josh wrapped his arms around your waist, pressed more kisses to your neck and began playing with your nipples, working you back up again.
He fiddled with the button and zipper of your jeans and pulled them down, along with your underwear; letting them settle around your knees. You gripped the sink counter and spread your legs as far as you could, allowing Josh all the access he needed. With one hand wrapped across your stomach, his hard-on pressed against your ass, Josh’s other hand wandered to your thighs, purposely avoiding your center. “Please.” You whimpered, unable to be more specific but Josh knew what you needed. He slid his index finger through your folds, coating it in your arousal. “Is this all for me? You’re so wet for me?” All you could do was nod and moan as quietly as possible. Then, he added his middle finger, slicking it up as well and then focusing on your clit. The pressure was soft as he slid his fingers over your clit in small circles. You reached behind you to grab the back of his neck and pulled him down into a desperate kiss, despite the awkward angle. Grinding your ass back into his pelvis, you felt his fingers start to slide inside you. The palm of his hand rubbed against your clit as he moved his fingers in and out of your heat. You could feel your orgasm building already. “Oh, my god.” you breathed as he continued to pump his fingers in and out of you, over and over, faster and faster until your orgasm washed over you, making your back arch and your toes curl. His fingers stilled as you pulsed around him and tried to catch your breath.
A short moment went by as Josh gave you time to come down. He used his arousal drenched hand to stroke himself. “Fuck me. Please.” You were practically begging, bent over the sink, presenting yourself to him. Despite being exhausted and oversensitive from your orgasm, you needed to feel all of him inside you. He gave himself one more tug and lined himself up with your heat. As he started to push inside, you gripped the counter tighter - the sensation of him filling you up almost made your eyes roll back. Once he was buried inside to the hilt, he stayed there, allowing you to adjust to his size; the stretch was absolutely delicious. When you couldn’t wait anymore, you moved forward, letting his cock slip out a little and pushing yourself back onto him. “So tight.” Josh seemed breathless and lost for words. He was holding onto your hips and watching himself slip in and out of you, thrusting slowly, savouring the sensation of you around him. “Fuck. Faster." You demanded. He couldn’t say no to that. His pace quickened and you both couldn’t hold in your moans, breathing louder and more erratic. “Oh, god. Don’t stop. Please don’t stop.” You breathed, so close to your second orgasm. Josh could feel you getting tighter around him and reached down to massage your clit in quick motions, from side to side, while increasing his speed and fucking you harder. “It’s okay, love. Cum for me.” It was all you could do to squeeze your eyes shut and let Josh pull your orgasm out of you. He continued to fuck you through your orgasm, chasing his own high. Only a few more thrusts and he came inside you with a low groan.
“Shit.” You whispered. “I think we were loud.” The music had stopped... when did they stop playing? Josh was still inside you, catching his breath, when there was a knock at the door. “Hey, Y/N, we need to get going.” It was Y/F/N. Josh swiftly pulled out of you and tucked himself back into his jumpsuit, pulling it back over his shoulders and zipping it up. You could feel his cum dripping down your thigh but you grabbed your bra and t-shirt, hastily putting them back on. “Yeah! Sorry, we were just…” Josh looked to you, panic in his eyes, “…having a heart to heart?” The question on the end was not helping as you cleaned yourself up as best as you could and pulled your jeans back up. “Oh... I thought Y/N was in here.” They said, confused; obviously oblivious to Josh leaving the dressing room after you. “I am, I’m in here! I’ll be two seconds.” You called out to them. They didn’t respond. You might have fucked up.
As you were fixing your hair in the mirror and willing yourself to look less fucked-out, Josh let out a sigh. “I have to say, that was incredible.” He said, a mix of lust and genuine fondness of you in his voice. You just winked at him. “It was. We need to do that again sometime.”

Pairing: Josh x reader Word Count: 1262 Warnings: I don’t even know what this is. There’s soft smut, and terrible writing.
Requested by: @highoffcnc - Could I request an enemies to lovers smut kind of thing with josh? Like you’re friends with Sam and jake so you go to their house to hang and only josh is home? Sorry if that doesn’t make sense 😂
Tumblr media
It was a beautiful October afternoon, too warm actually, for this time of year. You were sick of sitting inside writing papers all day, so you decided to go out for a walk. You were just wandering around the neighborhood when something soft and cold hit your head. Looking up, your face is suddenly pelted by raindrops.
You start to sprint down the road, careful not to slip on the slick pavement. You realize that it will take way too long to get back to your house, so you go to the place that you consider to be your second home. Now completely drenched, you bang on the front door of the Kiszka residence, shivering as you silently plead to yourself for Jake or Sam to answer. The door swings open and an annoyed Josh locks eyes with you. He looks you up and down, taking in your soaking form, before stepping aside without a word. You brush past him into the house, trying your best to wipe your feet on the mat and not drip all over the floor. “Is anyone else home?” you ask as you lean down to remove your drenched shoes. “No, just me” Josh answers coldly.
Jake and Sam had been your best friends since you were in grade school. You first met on the school bus where Sam would playfully mess with you by tugging your hair, and Jake would yell at him to knock it off. Josh, however, would always move to a distant seat as soon as you stepped onto the bus. You never knew why he hated you, but he would do anything to avoid being near you despite your close relationship with his brothers.
When you look up Josh has already disappeared, but you can hear the faint noise of a record starting in the living room. You head upstairs and down the hall to Sam’s room, which is unsurprisingly a bit of a mess. Stepping over discarded clothes and notebooks on the floor you open the closet to grab some sweatpants and a t-shirt, which are both several sizes too big. After peeling off your sopping wet garments and changing into Sam’s dry clothing, you open the bedroom door and almost walk straight into Josh who is holding a large mug of steaming liquid. “Watch where you’re going!” he barks. “I’m sorry, I-” you start to stammer before he interrupts.
“Here.” He holds out the mug, staring at you impatiently. You glance at it, then back at him with a confused expression.
“I made you some tea. Now take it and give me your clothes, I’ll put them in the dryer.”
You hesitantly accept the mug from his grip and hand him the pile of damp clothing. After Josh starts up the dryer you follow him downstairs to the living room where you recognize Music From Big Pink by The Band spinning on the record player. The two of you sit on opposite ends of the couch, not speaking a word as the music flows throughout the room, remaining the only noise besides the sound of rain pattering on the windows. Bringing the mug up to your lips, you suppress a sigh when the warm liquid travels down your throat, heating and relaxing your entire body.
“Thanks for the tea” your voice is just above a whisper and you’re not sure if he heard you until he looks at you and nods.
“You seemed like you needed it.” he replies and scoots closer to you on the couch, turning his body to face you with one leg bent under the other.
“That’s the first time you’ve ever done anything nice for me” the words come out of your mouth without a thought and you glace towards Josh, trying to gauge how bad his reaction will be.
His eyes are now on the cushion below him, his hands playing with the hem of his sweater. He opens his mouth but whispers more to himself than to you, “that’s not true.”
You scoff and shake your head, taking another sip before placing the mug onto the coffee table and turning towards him, mirroring his position. “When have you ever done something nice for me, or even said anything nice to me. You basically pretend I don’t exist or act like you wish I didn’t.”
He looks up at you, and you can see a glimmer of pain in his eyes. “I did that for you. Because I knew that you and Sam liked each other back then, so I distanced myself to keep from hurting either of you.”
Your eyebrows furrowed and your mind raced, trying to dissect what Josh was saying to you. “Sam and I had dumb crushes on each other that ended years ago, and even still, why would you being there hurt us?” You were trying to read his face, but it seemed like there were a million emotions running across his features.
“Because I love you Y/N, and I always have.” Your mouth hung open and your eyes darted between each of his, trying to decipher if he was joking. He couldn’t be in love with you. He hated you. Did he hate you? Your mind raced and your body reacted the only way it knew. You laughed. He had to be joking. You kept laughing, until you saw the pain creep into his eyes. “You’re not joking are you?”
He shook his head and lifted a hand to his face to keep a tear from escaping. Your eyes were brought to his lips when you saw them quiver. You studied them and found yourself staring. They started to grow larger, and you realized that it was because you were moving towards them. His breathing had stopped as you got closer, both sets of lips now brushing against each other. Josh brought his hand up to your cheek and you leaned in, connecting your mouth to his and the breath caught in his throat was released into you.
Your lips danced together with his, moving in perfect harmony, subconsciously to the beat of the music long forgotten. His arm wrapped around your waist and you were pulled onto his lap, legs placed on either side to straddle him. Your hands came up and fingers tangled themselves in his curls. A soft moan escaped his mouth when you lightly tugged on his hair, making your hips instinctively roll down onto his, allowing you to feel his hardness through his pants.
Josh reciprocates your actions, pushing himself up into you, and wetness begins to accumulate between your thighs. You slowly rock yourself back and forth over him and he deepens your kiss while bringing one hand under you shirt. It grazes across your stomach and pauses, before attaching to your breast. A thumb plays with your sensitive and now-hard bud, and your hips begin to move faster, increasing the friction between your groins still separated by layers of clothing.
You both continue these actions, only occasionally separating your lips to catch a breath or let out a moan, until loud estranged noises escape both mouths, and you climax together. Still seated on Josh’s lap with dampened clothing between you, your face was now planted in the crook of his neck. You finally even your breathing enough to whisper, “Hey Josh?” You glance up at him and his eyes are closed; he simply mutters an “mhm” in response.
“I love you too.”
He places a light kiss on your cheek and moves his lips next to your ear, “I know mama.”

New Tune: Part 1 (Jake Kiszka x Reader)
Tumblr media
Summary: Two guitarists meet at a Rock Festival, only having a week with each other before they have to return to their own lives. The bond they create is unfeigned and resolute.
 WC: 1.7k
Warnings: Cursing and drinking
Hello! This is the first series i’ve done in years! And i’m honestly really excited about it. The title is cheesy and probably wont make sense till the last chapter, but its a heartfelt story. I know its a short first chapter but we are just getting started. I really hope you guys like it!
The rush of performing is worryingly amazing. Just playing for hundreds of people who all share the love of music harmoniously together in one room is even something magical in itself. But playing the music that joins us together? Its indescribable, and its why I fucking love my job. I get to do that almost every night for hundreds of different people. The thing I love most is just being able to jam onstage with my best friends, and creating music with them. Most of our songs are created through our live shows, and it’s all 100% us in every performance. Not what our managers think will make the most money or sell out the most shows, but it’s exactly what we want to create. Fucking Rock and Roll.
Which is what we are doing now, at some random festival in California just trying to play some fucking music. We were lucky enough to get on the roster at all, first of all our name isn't too well known yet and we play a bit heavier than the people on the setlist as is. It's  all of course Rock, but there is a fair share of indie and folk thrown in for good measure.
We more play psychedelic rock? I guess that’s the way you could describe it, lots of fuzz, delay effects, and weird ass lyrics that could make Jim Morrison say “What the fuck?” Luckily our manager was friends with the event coordinator and squeezed our name in last minute. I honestly don’t think we are even on the Lineup.
“Hey fuckface! Come help me with this keg!” Screamed the Lead Vocalist to our band, but also my best friend, Matt.
I looked up from my phone to see the exasperated boy doing his best to get it up the stairs of the tour bus, but failing miserably. I get up from my spot to attempt to help move the heavy keg from the base of the stairs.
“A keg? What are we in high school? I mean yes, we could very easily drink our way through this, but wouldn’t cases of beer just be easier?” I asked, also struggling to get it up the stairs”
“I mean… Where's the fun… In that?” He said, pausing in between his words to lift the heavy thing.
We finally got it to the top, both letting out a whoosh of air before going to fall back on the couches in exhaustion. We sat in silence, settling with the fact that we were both extremely out of shape despite doing countless shows. WHich honestly in itself is a huge work out.
“Alright! Up we go, it’s up here so let’s get this party started before we die of exhaustion.”
Matt hopped up quicker than expected and grabbed the valve for the keg off the counter.
“Now that. Is a fantastic idea.” He pushed a filled cup and then filled his own. We clinked our drinks and threw them back, both easily swallowing it all.
“Let's get absolutely fucked.” Matt said, emphasizing the word fucked. "Wait..." I half questioned. "If our thing is drinking outside, then why are we putting the keg in here?"
He gave me a blank stare and then dropped his head in shame.
"Fuck."
Jakes POV
“Jake I swear to god if you don’t walk faster I'm going to steal that guitar of yours and add my own special touch to it.”
“Well calm down and slow your pace, and then I'll catch up. And Honestly josh, I don't even want to think of what you'd do to my girl.”
Josh suddenly slowed down and got right into my space, and then very animatedly started to explain how he would decorate her.
“I'm sure you remember that one very fun tambourine I had at that one show. You know, the one with all the tassels.”
“Mhm, That one tambourine from that one show.” I absentmindedly replied, not really paying attention to his whole show.
More taking in all the surroundings of all the buses around us, housing all the artists playing throughout the week. Josh and I have a habit of doing this at every festival we’ve been too, which wasn't much, but it was enough to create the tradition. These were always fun to go to, meet different musicians and wind down for a week. Festivals were always fun simply because we could take a real break. We tend to get a bit overrun with tour dates because of management, but here we play once or twice, and spent the rest of the week doing press or enjoying ourselves. We all honestly looked forward to it.
Josh suddenly stopped talking about his favorite tambourines and said, “What was that?”
We wandered around with a bit more direction lightly following the voices that bounced off of all the buses.
I stopped to listen and heard two people very aggressively discussing what seemed to be Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughn. As we kept walking, we started to hear them more clearly.
The girl yelling “Honestly Matt, If you tell me right now, that your prefer Stevie over Jimi I’m fucking leaving this band.”
“Y/N, I prefer Stevie.”
After that the man, presumably Matt, said that all hell had broken loose and swears and counter arguments were thrown left and right.
Josh seemed very interested in the whole scene and did his best to follow the voices so he could find the source. I was honestly pretty interested myself.
We finally rounded a corner to find two, seemingly, very drunk people intensely arguing while still half laying down in the lawn chairs they had set out in front of their bus. A keg sat between them, and a stack of red solo cups on top. Nothing but a lantern and the moon keeping them alight.
“Sure, we all love Stevie, he’s a chill dude. But Jimi? He ascended. He fucking made music. He created most of what Stevie played. I honest to god, Matt, will physically fight you.”
The girl caught my eye when we rounded the corner, and very aggressively pointed at me.
“You, long haired pretty boy in the Chelsea boots. Come here.”
I looked over at josh and we seemed more than happy to see what this random stranger had up her sleeve. He kind of pushed my shoulder forward so we could make our way over to them. I had no idea what to expect.
She sat up in her chair and Matt stayed unmoving, still half laying in his chair.
“Which is better? And there is a right and wrong answer. Stevie Ray Vaughn or Jimi Hendrix.” She glared at the Matt when she said Jimi's name, he seemed unbothered.
“I mean Jimi is the obvious here, any guitarist would agree.”
“Ha! Fuck you Matt Im right, its just factually true. Suck. My. Dick.”
“Well he’s one random guy that doesn't answer the whole mystery.” Matt slurred.
Josh quickly butted into the conversation, which isn't new.
“Well if my opinion has any weight than I vote for Jimi, but speaking of strangers. Im Josh, and this here is my twin, Jakey”
“Its Jake.”
The mood quickly changed and a smile appeared on the girls face. She held out her hand and gave a quick but firm handshake, introducing herself.
“The name is Y/N, and this Ignorant bastard is named Matt.”
She reached over to the keg in between them and refilled her cup, then poured two more for Josh and I.
“For my two new friends.” She smiled, handing the cups to us. We happily accepted, and Josh made his way to sit on the ground in front of them, I quickly followed.
“Alright boys, Name your band and then instruments, seeing as were here and all.” She said gesturing to the place.
Josh quickly spoke first “Well we are two halves of Greta Van Fleet, and I sometimes play vocals, occasional screams, but mostly tambourines.” He joked.
Y/N snorted at Josh's introduction.
“And you?” she asked directing her attention to me.
“As Josh said, two halves of our band Greta Van Fleet, And I play Lead Guitar.”
Her eyes seemed to light up at that comment and quickly responded with a smile.
“ Isn't that a coincidence, so do I,”
As the night went on the booze flowed more, and so did the conversation. We all quickly learned we had a lot in common, and got along pretty damn well. Matt wasn't very present, because, well, he passed out moments after we got there. But as the night went on, the more we all truly felt comfortable with each other. It was simply one of those times in your life when you meet someone you truly feel akin too. Maybe it was because we were all drunk, or maybe it was a fluke. Her love for music dripped off of every word she spoke, she just gave off positivity and confidence, and her passion for life and work truly shined through. She consistently listened to us throughout the night, less worried about discussing her personal life. She seemed genuinely interested in every little thing Josh and I had to say.
It felt like we were there for all of five minutes, but before we knew it, it was 4 am. By that point so much random shit was coming out of our mouths that it wasn't coherent. Eventually Josh and I helped her round Matt onto the bus and said our quick goodbyes before we left.
As we walked back, Josh's already never ending smile seemed brighter, seeming touched the domestic events of the night.
“I really like her, Jakey.”
A smile was growing on my face as well, though ever so slightly more subtle.
“I did too, Josh.”
We eventually stumbled our way back onto our own bus, not bothering to change before hopping into our bunks.  It would've been pitch black if it weren't for the dim blue lights under the seats. In the bunks next to ours were Danny and Sam, sleeping pretty soundly in their own. Lucky for us they can sleep through anything. Especially Sam.
I heard a loud thump, looking over to see josh sitting on his ass and looking more grumpy.
“Fuckin bunks are so high up. I swear to god…”
He eventually got up, mumbling to himself angrily before eventually climbing up and falling asleep.
I laid restless in my own, sleep seeming unlikely for the night. My mind could only focus on the enigma that was the girl we had the pleasure of meeting. So I just laid in my bunk, staring at the low ceiling, mind unfocused on anything except what just happened.

New Tune: Chapter 3 (Jake Kiszka x Reader)
Tumblr media
WC: 3.2k
Warnings: Cursing, mentions of alcohol and hard drugs, two of our favorite boys smoking weed
Summary: Two guitarists meet at a Rock Festival, only having a week with each other before they have to return to their own lives. The bond they create is unfeigned and resolute.
Notes: I HIGHLY recommend the songs I mention throughout this chapter, especially into the mystic. That song fucks me up.
I walked up to the tour bus, acoustic strapped to my back. I checked my phone one more time to make sure I had the time right. The band was still playing what seemed to be their last song. All of the members were putting everything into their playing, emotion from all of them pouring through. The singing belting out everything, the drums and bass seemed to be on the same wavelength with a steady and more relaxed rhythm, and finally, the guitar seemed angry and messy. Despite all of their conflicting tones they found a way to meld together, making their music them. It wasn't anything like me and the boys played,  I could only describe it as a mixture of Sabbath's first album and Pink Floyds “wish you were here” album. That style of a very heavy, angry blues with David Gilmour's bends and solos. I couldn't think of a genre to pin it down with.
I decided not to burst in unannounced, so I opened up my phone and leaned against the bus, mindlessly scrolling through instagram. As soon as I started three guys walked off the bus, cigarettes in hand. They stopped when they saw me, each with a quizzical look on their faces. I quickly stuck my hand out and introduced myself,
“Jake Kiszka, I’m um, here to meet Y/N.”
Matt seemed to quickly realize who I was because a smile adjourned his face.
“Oh shit hey man! I dont think you've met the other guys. This here is Eli, our bassist.” Eli quickly shook my hand returned back to his cig. Matt continued. “And this is Asa, our baby drummer.”
Asa shook his head and took a drag of his, then motioned towards me. “I’m literally the same height this guy.”
Matt looked at the both of us and gave out a quick laugh “ Oh shit, my bad.”
“I can't help that i’m the shortest, literally all of you are over 5’10! Y/N is a head taller than me, especially when she wears heels. Which is like, everyday.” Said Asa, trying to defend himself.
“Speaking of! She will be out shortly, she's on the phone. We are gonna go to the bar, see
you around man.”
They all threw me a hasty peace sign and walked away.
They are quite the crew, I see why Y/N is the way she is.
Not too long after Y/N hopped off the bus with a guitar strapped to her back and what seemed to be a small mason jar.
“Well hey there, Rockstar. Ready to go jam?”
She seemed different than earlier, and it wasn’t that her hangover was gone. She just seemed… off. Still, she was peppy and seemed eager to see me.
She was dressed the same as this morning, but she put on a light denim jacket. Probably for how cold it gets at night here.
“Hell yeah. I'm assuming we aren't playing here, just that no fun.” I joked.
“My feelings would be very hurt right now if I didn't have a super cool spot planned.”
I raised one of my eyebrows, not entirely visible behind my sunglasses.
“Super cool spot?”
“Yeah! It's a bit of a walk, I hope you don’t mind. I just enjoy hiking through the desert while I’m here. A welcome change of scenery.”
I smiled at that sentence, there is just something about a girl who doesn't mind a hike that gets me.
“I don’t mind at all.”
She did look beautiful, I can’t deny that. Her hair was wild and curly, not unkempt but perfectly messy. The light from the sun catching her skin perfectly.
“Well let's get going! Can’t just stare at me all night.”
Fuck.
A small blush rose to my cheeks. Guess I can't really smoothly play it off.
“Can you blame?”
“No I guess not.” A bright smile on her face as we started our trek.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“And welcome to the coolest part of this whole festival.”
We stood on a massive boulder that went off the trail, overlooking the desert. It must've been about a 20 ft drop, at least. The vast desert ahead of us  seemed never ending, and it was all covered with green bushes. The sun still setting, about to disappear beyond the horizon.
“Fuck. The boys would kill to see this” I said, the view stunning me.
She already found a spot perched on a rock overlooking it all.
“Fuck is the perfect description for this place.”
I made my way over to her, grabbing a seat next to her. She pulled the small mason jar out of her pocket.
“Whatcha got there?”
“The surprise.” She looked over to me, excitement evident on her face.
“You never told me there was one.”
“It wouldn't be a surprise if i told you.” She said nudging my shoulder.
“Well show it to me then.”
She unscrewed the lid and inside was a nug of weed, along with rolling papers and a lighter.
My eyes lit up, happy to see the product in front of me.
I chuckled and said “Y/N, You're killing it tonight.”
“Rockstar, you don't have to tell me that.” She handed it to me suddenly, then continued
“Thing is, I never learned to roll. Well-” She stopped for a moment, thinking. “Well I did learn, but my skills are laughable.”
I grabbed my guitar from my back, and laid it down in my lap, using it as a flat surface.
“You brought the right person with you.” I grabbed the items out of the jar and laid them out, staying as still as I could. Talking while rolling the blunt.
“Josh stopped smoking joints a while back, you know, for his voice. Sam and Danny still do, but both use bongs whenever they can. In fact, I remember Sam trying to make a bong in woodworking class, I think it’s still on the bus actually.”
I finished grinding it, setting it down in a little pile, then grabbing the papers. Continuing
to talk while I rolled.
“Anyways they always left me to roll, and after MANY years of experience.” I stop for a moment to lick the edges and push the paper in with my tongue. “I can roll a pretty damn good blunt.”
I finally finish it off by running my lighter along the edge, cooking it.
“Under two minutes? Damn, man I’m impressed. If I did it we would have been here a while.” She laughed and then laid her guitar down next to her, leaning back on her hands.
I grabbed all the stuff and put it back in the jar, sitting it down next to me. I tried to pass the blunt over to her.
“Ladies, first”
“Psh, please. I know proper etiquette.” She lightly scoffed, pushing my hand back over to me.
“I insist, it’s your bud.” My hand returning back to its spot, wiggling it around to tease her.
She was stubborn, her face was scrunched up in thought before finally accepted. She took it from my hands, going for the lighter.
“Ah, I got it.”
“Ooh, look at you being all chivalrous.”
I laughed and cupped my hand around it, blocking any wind, then lit the end of it.
She breathed in, holding it in a bit before finally exhaling, letting out a plume of smoke. It hanging heavy in the air for a moment before the breeze sweeps it away.
She passed it over to me, and I grabbed it out of her hand, taking an equally big hit.
“Its funny, usually by now i'm in the middle of a cough-” She cut herself off, going into an expected coughing fit.
I cough out a laugh, not expecting that to happen. The both of us laughing and coughing before it eased.
It seemed like it had been a bit since she’d smoked, she was paying attention to all of her actions carefully before doing them.
We eventually calmed down and quietly passing it between each other, enjoying the sounds of nature and the setting sun.
“Fuck I hate when it gets this small.” She was doing her best to pinch the end of it, trying to get a hit.
“It's a fun challenge.” I laughed.
“I use this so I don’t have to deal with challenges.” She passed the roach over to me and settled back on her hands, staring off into the distance. A serene look on her face and seemingly not a bad thought in mind.
I took a final hit before putting it out on the rock and flicking it off the boulder.
“Wanna play something?” I asked.
“Just- Give me a second, this all is so beautiful its a bit overwhelming.”
I simply nodded and stared off myself, marveling in nature's beauty.
I caught my gaze drifting over to her several times, admiring her peace. She seemed so at home with all of this.
“Know the song “Junk” by John Denver?” She asked not looking away from the scenery.
I fully turned my head towards her saying “Of course.”
She pulled herself away and grabbed her guitar and pick, starting to strum the tune.
She sang along, never faltering. I listened for a bit, admiring her voice. The song matched the energy of the night, making the whole experience more surreal.
In the chorus I joined in, harmonizing with her soprano voice. Our voices melded together beautifully, our guitars singing and harmonizing together. A smile forming on her face, as we both sang together. Our guitars finding a rhythm together and continued on after the song ended. We played off of each other, either one of us soloing at any point, but we kept a steady strum pattern throughout it.
We eventually found a way to segue into other songs, never really stopping. Continuing to sing, and if we messed up we’d laugh while continuing. We generally knew all the songs we started, and if the other didn't they’d play matching chords, listening to the other sing. I played my fair share of John Denver and Neil Young, never forgetting a word. She seemed kin to Jim Croce and James Taylor. Not that I ever minded. Both of us were so perfectly contempt with just staying there and never stopping. We stayed like that for hours.
Eventually we did slow down, finishing “Annie's Song” by John Denver. Which of course I started. I looked up to see her tearing up, still she never stopped playing, nor did it seem that she wanted to. Her voice cracking when singing the lyrics. Once the finished I gently set my guitar down on the ground, and moved hers as well, she didn't seem to mind. Her eyes never moved from the ground, staying quiet rather than her normal talkative self.
“Little Bird, what's wrong?”
She looked up, her eyes red and puffy, tears streaming down her face.
“Little Bird?” She asked.
“I don’t know just trying it out.” I said quietly.
“Well nor am I little or a bird, but its cute.” Very voice barely audible.
I pulled her in for a tight hug, not letting go. I whispered “Talk to me, Little Bird.”
She relaxed in my arms, wrapping her arms around me, quietly crying onto my shoulder, muffling her sobs. We stayed like that for a while, I let her take the time she needed.
She finally pulled back turning her back to me to wipe her eyes and face, then turning back around to face me with sad eyes.
“It’s nothing really. It’s not anything I cant handle. I have been handling it.” Her voice
trailed off, but I didn't push her. I let her take her time to get her thoughts together.
“It’s just a big jumbled mess i’ve learned to deal with. You know how home life can be.”
I nodded, moving a bit closer, listening to her words.
“It’s just, this career, its taking a toll on my relationships. My dad, he was a musician too, he never got anywhere, but he is really fucking good. Anyways he always played folk and old country, I guess he never really got my heavier style. Which is fine, that wasn't a problem.”
She paused a moment.
“Just.. He hasn’t accept me as real musician in a way, because of it. In his eyes, my work is along the lines of all the pop shit out there. Which hurts more than anything else. It’s not like i’m doing this for my dad, this is all me. There is just something about a parents judgement though, you hold it above everything else.”
I stayed quiet for a moment, processing everything. I knew that wasn’t everything. Annie's song is what caused her to cry, these situations have no correlation.
“I think. I think he just sees these country and folk legends as what they are, the best. I mean we all know that, but I think he's so tunnel visioned that nothing else compares. I’ve heard you, you’re fucking fantastic. I won't lie to you, I found your instagram and made it to the bottom. You're an amazing performer who’s doing more than most out there, more than me. I found that video of you using the violin bow, it blew my mind. I tried my hand at it, but I didn't come close to what you can do.”
I stopped myself, fearing id go into a hole of compliments and guitar talk.
“I digress, your dad is honestly dumb if he can’t accept how talented you are. Yeah, I said it, your dad is acting dumb.”
She laughed lightly, and leaned against me.
“Ah so you agree?”
She just hummed against me in agreement.
“Y/N?”
“Hm?”
I turned my head to look at her face, and asked “What's really wrong? I know this is probably one of them, but I have a suspicion that this isn't the main problem.”
She took a deep breath and sighed.
“I was hoping you wouldn't see that.” She somberly laughed.
“Well, um. I had a fight with my..” She trailed off, “With my boyfriend.”
My own mood deflated when she said that, let down. I just stayed still and listened.
“I've been ignoring him for days. Which is extremely shitty on my end, I deserve what I get. We just, ever since my bands been growing he’s been getting harder to handle. If that
makes sense?”
I nodded.
“Well, uh, he’s always been the jealous type. Asking me if i'd rather be with other men, and  if we went anywhere he’d make it extremely clear to anyone that I was with him. It's gotten to the point that he has convinced himself that im cheating on him whenever I leave to go on tour. Which is quite often. It hurts to hear that the man you're with has zero trust in you. It really fucking hurts, you eventually just start blaming yourself for his actions.”
She took a sharp breath, slowly exhaling.
“So I started turning my phone off and just leave it off for days. I couldn't handle it, so I ignored it.”
“Y/N.”
She continued.
“ I swear he’s good to me, he loves me. He just lets his jealousy get the best of him, it just takes over. Once im home its all okay, but that's like two months out of the year. It doesn't help my case that I have to argue his case…”
She went quiet, just thinking to herself. I honestly didn’t know what to say, so I just continued to hold her and be there for her.
“Thank  you for being with me tonight.” She said
“No problem, little bird.”
She smiled for a second before it faltered.
“God knows what I would've gotten into tonight. Usually this is when Eli would bust out the coke, and by that point I’d be hammered. Maybe Asa would have suggested acid instead of coke. God, the amount of acid i’ve tripped on during shows. I did it nights in a row, which isn't the safest thing. This is the tamest thing i've done weeks. I can't remember the last time I didn't drink into oblivion.”
“All to drown out the noise..” she said under her breath.
“I honestly don’t know what to say, Y/N.”
“I know, i’m a mess.”
“No, it's not that. I just, I want to give you some type of advice, I want to help you. I just don’t know how.”
“Thank you, Jake. The boys have all tried in their own ways. There is just nothing I can do.”
She gave a weak smile and pressed in closer for a second.
“No one should be treated that way, its bullshit. Love is trust, and that kind of jealousy isn’t the right kind of love. You know?”
She weakly scrunched her shoulders.
“I’ve only known you for I think two days? I don't know if this is crossing a line for our two days of friendship, but I just have to say. You can’t take this bullshit from him, you’re a fucking rockstar who takes no shit. You definitely don't from any of these guys, and especially the business side of it. You're playing whatever you want on that stage, you obviously fought for that freedom. Fight for this one freedom.”
She moved out of my side, my arm falling from her shoulder.
She laid her head in her hands, running her hands
through her hair.
“Fuck. I know you're right. I know it, I.. I just can’t break away from him. Ive built my life around him, it’s just like that fucking Fleetwood Mac song.”
She suddenly turned around, facing me, her eyes sad and heavy.
“Can we play one more song?” She asked.
“Anything, Little Bird. As long as it isn't Landslide.”
She weakly laughed and shook her head, focusing on her guitar.
She started the chord progression for “Into the Mystic” by Van Morrison.
Just like before at practice, she played with every emotion poured into it. Melting into the song, letting it all out. I joined it after the first few verses, playing the solo part on my guitar, letting her focus on the words. During the chorus the both of us threw caution into the wind and belted it. No longer harmonizing, but just being in the moment. Connecting with the universe, as Morrison intended. Never letting our voices falter throughout the rest of the song, belting every word. Both of us playing our guitars as if our lives depended on it.
We crescendoed into silence, both just sitting in the moment. Reveling in it.
She suddenly broke the silence.
“Hungry?”
“Starving.”

Eventually we made it back to her bus, both of us exhausted. She made it to her small pantry searching for something. I plopped down on the couch, leaning back into it. I closed my eyes and heard her pop something into the microwave. The clicking of her heels getting louder as she grew closer. She sat down next to me, leaning her head against my shoulder. A small smile growing on my face.
“Thanks, Rockstar”
“My Pleasure, Little Bird.”
