Various Artists - Summer Soulstice 2021 Compilation (Uniting Souls Music)
8DPromo · Various Artists - Summer Soulstice 2021 Compilation (Uniting Souls Music)
Seattle’s house music mainstay Uniting Souls Music has queued up another of its anticipated label samplers to add to the heat of the summer months. The Summer Soulstice 2021 Compilation offers a state-of-the-label overview, featuring cuts from familiar names from the label’s vast discography as well as some inspired newcomers. There are too many highlights to spotlight among the compilation’s ten tracks — top notch deep house and west coast flavors abound. NY-via-Italy producer Alicia kicks things off with the hypnotic “Meraki’a,” followed by the crisp deep sound of Build It Records’s Bello. Seattle is represented by essential tracks from Snapdragon, Tony H, Gruv1 (AJ Sorbello), and FunkTonix (Jackson Mindt & James Nocchi), all prominent DJs and producers from the city. And, rounding out the other points in the nation (and the world) there’s Mikey "Lil'T" Tello, Jake Beautyman, DJ Sulli, and Anthony Zmoda. The Summer Solstice 2021 Compilation excels in vibey sounds for lockdown-liberated dancefloors — give ‘em all a spin.

Jake Beautyman - Mareen Life [Tech House, Minimal Techno]
Jake Beautyman – Mareen Life [Tech House, Minimal Techno]

Jake Beautyman - Shadow Them Hills (Harmonious Discord Recordings)
8DPromo · Jake Beautyman - Shadow Them Hills (Harmonious Discord Recordings)
Harmonious Discord is excited to welcome Suffolk-based producer Jake Beautyman (Bosh, Bombis, Damolh Records) to the label with an abstract-leaning dance record focused on disorienting melodies and sharp percussion. “Shadow Them Hills” is a tense and satisfying exploration of audio signals and sonic creepiness. Label mainstays Tobor Rellik and Onium provide a pair of fantastic remixes. “Shadow Them Hills” tempers warehouse drum construction with carefully-placed sampling. Escalating arpeggios dance around each other as siren sounds move the music forward. Theremin-esque haunted leads sweep through during the multiple reprises. “Shadow Them Hills” is a fantastic tool for turning up the energy and setting sail for darker waters. Tobor Rellik puts forth an amazing bass-driven rework. Focusing on the processed effects and rumbling sub-bass, the rework is guaranteed to wake the neighbors. Onium dives deeper with a dub techno re-imagination. Swirling pads settle the sampled material and the raw techno elements are preserved but rolled in with precision. Jake closes out the project with a fitting b-side called “Release and Guidance.” The selection features a similar focus on the abstract now accompanied by vocal samples and detuned modular plucks.
Colin Dale (Abstrakt Dance Records) – “Excellent EP. All cuts are rocking. A+” Lcaise (Tanztone Records) – “Strong release. Tobor Rellik and Onium remixes for me, but the originals are also great. Will play for sure.” Al Mackenzie (Great Outdoors) – “The Onium mix is really nice.” Brian Busto (Serious Soul) – “Excellent tracks all around. Full support on this one.” Lee Guthrie (Wiggle / Click Therapy) – “The Original of Shadow Them Hills is for me here.” Dean Facer (OurHouse Magazine) – “A truly excellent release.” SimonG (Volcano Radio) – “These are some solid late night beats.” Brandon Bass (Aspect Ratios – KMET Radio) – “I really dig the Tobor Rellik remix. Supporting.” Rob Zile (Brain Food Radio Show) – “Great deep, techy beats.” Rob Pearson (Sinefm.com) – “Lovely EP here from Jake. The title cut stands out at first listen, but I’m looking forward to working with all of these cuts.”

DJ Sulli - Where Do We Come From? (Hype & Soul)
8DPromo · DJ Sulli - Where Do We Come From? (Hype & Soul)
From the environs of Northern California comes a serious new jam from DJ Sulli and Hype & Soul Recordings. A ‘lifer’ in the house music scene, Sulli (AKA Sean Sullivan) has been actively DJ’ing and releasing tracks for over 25 years. His own Hype & Soul imprint has gone from strength-to-strength, now bursting forth with the exploratory soul-tech cut “Where Do We Come From?” The underground dark room vibe is propelled by a chunky house rhythm, a large, rolling bass line, and synth textures that verge on the ominous. A mysterious, effected vocal wonders aloud on the title’s theme, sprinkling some philosophy the dance floor. The first remix is Sulli’s Toltech Mix, a more beat-focused treatment that also adds a flurry of psychedelic sound hits and echoey vocal drops. Next, the legendary Ralph Falcon of Miami’s Murk Records is on hand with a pair of phenomenal club-primed treatments. His remix and Radio Dub instantly create the perfect late night atmosphere, with tribal drum play, stereo-panned vocal snips, and massive, rhythmic synth blasts. We may not know where we come from, but this pack is surely sending us straight to the dance floor.
Hype & Soul will be launching an early release NFT package that is a limited edition digital asset available for sale six weeks prior to initial digital release with the intention of providing early buyers an opportunity to play and record performances with the mixes much sooner than the general public. This package will include a number of creative pieces including a complete Ableton project file from the original DJ Sulli mix, a certificate of authenticity and copyright performance release, plus all mixes in both WAV and MP3 formats along with original artwork. Limited to 50 copies only from OPENSEA.IO.
Boronas (Escapism Musique) – “Good package here. The Original and Ralph’s mixes work for me.” DJ Harri (Sub Club) – “That Murk bass sound! Love it, will play and support.” Strat3gy (House Afrika Records) – “Mad! Dark! Love it.” Lee Jones (Buslife) – “This is bonkers and really has me captivated. I think I’ll be supporting the Toltech mix.” Jake Beautyman (FUMP) – “Really solid release. I can see these getting some plays at upcoming gigs.” DJ Freddy (Courtoisie Records) – “In my playlist on Maxximum Radio (FR).” Simon Kirk (Stag Beetle Radio Show) – “Love the dark vi be. The Original mix is my fave with that dirty bassline.”

Lil'T - Boompty Boom (Uniting Souls Music)
8DPromo · Lil'T - Boompty Boom (Uniting Souls Music)
Lil’T is Mikey Tello, co-founder of PillowTalk, Housepitality and Touch of Class. His productions have appeared far and wide, for the likes of Wolf+Lamb, Visionquest, Life & Death, and many others. And now Uniting Souls — which is fitting as Mikey helped launch the Uniting Souls collective in San Francisco with label head Ramiro, way back in 1997. “Boompty Boom” is a clever slice of deep house with a hypnotic techno edge. The drum patterns have a pronounced afro-shake, combining with a pulsing low-end to provide the foundation under staccato organ chords, rhythmic vocal phrases, and a memorable synth lead line. Sean Dimitrie (Bombay Records) provides the first of a quartet of sleek remixes, initially focusing on the percussive groove for a sparse, mesmerizing treatment. A snakey bassline eventually takes over, sending the dancefloor into a tizzy. Next up is Pattern Drama (Touch of Class), adding some breaks, drama, and extra-dubbiness to the proceedings. Uniting Souls label regulars Jon Lee and Jordan Strong follow, each providing a distinctive new take. Jon Lee creates an old school vibe, with bubbling organ riffs and an insistent bass throb, while Jordan Strong gives “Boompty Boom” a classic-sounding west coast style re-rub. Put the Boompty in your Boom!
Trent Banks (Reflect) – “Wow. Every track on this is so deep! Each of them will add some serious boogie to the floor.” Jaymz Nylon (Adult Selections) – “Bravo! I’m really enjoying the Pattern Drama Remix.” DJ Harri (Sub Club) – “I’m liking these. Will play and support.” Nick Warren (The Soundgarden) – “The Pattern Drama and Jon Lee mixes are great.” Tom Lown (Lucky Sun Recordings) – “Nice bouncy vibe on Sean Dimitrie’s mix.” Hippie Torrales (Cyberjamz Radio) – “The original is hot.” Mike Solus (Housemasters Radio) – “Dope track. Dig the build up. Groovy!” Jon Wesley (Music Goes On Radio Show) – “Love this. Can’t wait to play it loud.” Jake Beautyman (FUMP) – “What a package! Uniting Souls keeps coming up with the tunes!” DJ Osric (Black and Blue Show) – “Top draw release. I have to keep listening over and over because I keep discovering a new vibe to carry me away!”

Alicia - Meraki'a - The Remixes (Uniting Souls Music)
8DPromo · Alicia - Meraki'a - The Remixes(Uniting Souls Music)
“Meraki’a,” from NY-via-Italy producer Alicia, made its first appearance on Uniting Souls Music’s Summer Solstice 2021 Compilation. The track grabbed the attention of DJs and dance floors, warranting its own single featuring a pair of top notch remixes. The deep and techy original leads off the single, with its hypnotic drive, bubbling bass line, and dramatic swells. It’s tailor-made for the after hours. The first remix of “Meraki’a” is by Copenhagen’s Alvaro Suarez who adds a dark, mysterious vibe to the tune. Distant flutes, stabs of piano, and hollow percussion give this one a distinctive, deep ‘exotica’ vibe. Closing out the single is a sublime rework from USM mainstay and Seattle scene veteran Jon Lee. Crisp drum beats propel an insistent sub-bass riff, moody synth pads, and dubby percussive elements into a cohesive whole. All three cuts are exceptional — it’ll be tough for DJs to choose which one to play first.
Citrus Age (Reflect) – “I absolutely love where this track goes … driving, earthy and intrepid.” Klaus Benedek (Fortunea Records) – “Very cool. Smooth bassline on the Jon Lee Mix.” Trinitron (Bounce Brunch) – “Perfect tunes for a boat.” Jake Beautyman (FUMP) – “Nice deep remix from Jon Lee.” Spaceotter (SCOHM) – “The Original and Suarez remixes are giving me all the right vibes. Solid work.” Simon Kirk (Stag Beetle Radio Show) – “Excellent remixes. Such a fantastic atmosphere on the Alvaro Suarez Remix. Epic!”

Bobby Breezy & Col Lawton - Low & Dirty (Viva Recordings)
8DPromo · Bobby Breezy & Col Lawton - Low & Dirty (Viva Recordings)
Hailing from Newcastle upon Tyne, Col Lawton is one of house music’s producers-of-the-moment with cuts for the likes of King Street, Atjazz Music, Salted Music, and many more doing damage on the Traxsource charts. Bobby Breezy is a deep house staple with his long-running Native Soul Recordings imprint and productions also appearing on the likes of King Street. These two skilled DJ/producers have teamed together for a rousing new single on Viva Recordings titled “Low & Dirty.” Starting with a tight rhythm track as a call-to-the-dancefloor, “Low & Dirty” unfolds with whisks of percussion hisses and shimmering staccato chords. The stereo field comes alive with spoken vocal drops, organ riffs, and dubbed out vibes. A deep, funky bass line keeps things rolling as the tracks moves through its dramatic breakdown to a satisfying climax. “Low & Dirty” will do the business, whether in a DJ mix, in the nightclub, or boomin’ in the headphones.

This is the good stuff.” Tom Lown (Lucky Sun Recordings) – “Nice.
