Would you consider a summary of Contrapoints' section on the Witch Trials sequel? I'm really curious but I'm loathe to put myself through it (totally understandable if you don't wanna, I'll soldier through). What intrigues me the most is that Phelps called him back to begin with, after his twitter tirade against her. In his huff to expiate himself to his audience of the sin of conversation he said Phelps "needed JKR not to be a monster so she wouldn't be one herself", alluding to Phelps' past at Westboro, not to mention the implication Phelps "tricked him" into participating by apparently lying about the skew of the podcast. Like, either she's way bigger a person than him (and me, I wouldn't have let that fly), or she addressed that (?) or I don't know, I don't wanna armchair diagnose her or make equally invasive presumptions about her motivations, but I can't help wondering if she doesn't feel it's not her place to be offended at such things, because of her past?
so i listened to it while driving so i wasn't taking notes or anything but i was planning on listening to it again anyway so i'll write stuff down this time
also just to clarify, he wasn't actually on the podcast this time around - they invited him back, he said no, so they just played clips from his two hour video about the podcast and responded to them. that's why i'm curious about how he came off in the original video because just having the parts they're responding to makes him sound completely unstable (which may very well be the case but i'm working with like ten minutes of material)
but yeah phelps was way nicer to him than she needed to be, which also stuck out to me in the original podcast. like i'm also trying to avoid armchair diagnosing but it really feels like she hasn't fully processed how cults operate on a fundamental conceptual level - she knows the one she was in was bad, but it feels like she still has some work to do on spotting other ones. she basically says she came away from her experience with her family realizing she needs to be more open minded, but there's a lot of room between being more open minded than the westboro baptist church and taking jacob tobia completely at face value

😎 ohh I just had a thought/ realization ! Back in the day the rich also didn’t really dress themselves, or at the very least the ladies didn’t ( they had the whole ass corset and many many layers of fabric and clothing with the dresses to deal with so they had to have HELP with that) . Meaning while R was young and growing up all the maids and female servants of the estate picked out clothes and dressed young R as they would have her mother Elizabeth . But with Elizabeth it was the corset , the dress, the hair and makeup and jewelry. With R as R was ten to thirteen years old when her mutation hit and she was forced on the run R was probably was at the start of development but wasn’t fully developed and with the Corset it is an all or nothing situation. Not like training bras of today. So the maids and female servants did the bare bones with R and dressed her in the little and young girl dresses of the day and did her hair in braids and other styles for young girls of that era.
R sucks at picking her clothes because she didn’t have the chance or choice to do so while she was young and growing up , and when she ran off she had the priority of just getting clothes to dress her self in ( she had to on the run while she was still in her nightgown because she was sleeping before the invasion of her home) and ideally those clothes would fit her but that wasn’t always the case. She didn’t care about the color or anything else but getting and having the clothes she needed. Like Vulture said , R isn’t color blind so she isn’t picking out clashing colors or picking out anything to crazy but she does look better then someone else picks out her clothes. Esther and everyone that has that has picked out R’s clothes after Esther : “ Honey …….. no. Here let me pick something out for you .” R : confused because she is dressed…. Mission accomplished and that is the main thing right ? But R is just like “ 🤷‍♀️ alright”.
R may not remember remember the maids / female servants of the Howlett estate picking out clothes and dressing R and she would never admit it but it makes R happy and feels all warm and fuzzy inside when people do this . Because she feels cared for and all the comments that people give her when she wears those clothes picked out for her makes her feel good. Plus it makes whom ever picking out R’s clothes makes them so happy and R likes doing that and she is just so used to it after Esther ( and her younger years that she doesn’t remember) of people choosing R’s clothes.
Even if R doesn’t want or it can make R uncomfortable people taking care of her or just the feeling of being taken care of still makes her feel all warm and fuzzy, and sometimes a girl just wants to have someone tell her she looks good ( again even though she would never admit to it).
But yeah R not only lived through ( and invented some) the evolution of feminine hygiene products but also the evolution of the corset to the “backless brassiere” or the bra as we know it today. It was invented in 1910 ( goggle debates the exact year but it is all the same difference) by the New York socialite named Mary Phelps Jacob ( also known as Caresse Crosby ).
Trying to imagine Wolvie!R in a dress/corset/some fancy getup and it's just such an awkward thing to think about 😂
R strikes me as someone who doesn't really care what she looks like, or that she has low self-esteem and just doesn't think she looks good in anything anyway, so that's why she makes no effort 🥺
R is also just so fiercely independent and doesn't like people when people go out of their way to help her (perhaps because she thinks they'll expect her to do something for them later on), but when she knows it's coming from a loving, genuine place it's more accepted.
Ah yes, R just casually inventing all of these extremely important feminine inventions that we still use to this day lol

Longline 'Cinch-Bra' Merry Widow By Warner, 50s
In the late nineteenth century, New York physician Dr Lucien Warner gave up his practice to begin a new career lecturing on women’s health issues, including the effects of the corset. In 1873, he designed a corset that provided the desired fashionable shape along with increased flexibility. The following year, Lucien Warner and his brother founded Warner Brothers Corset Manufacturers. After buying Mary Phelps Jacob’s brassiere patent in 1915, Warner’s went on to introduce lettered cup sizing in the 1930s and released its first line of extremely successful ‘Merry Widow’ foundation garments in 1952.
Named after but not featured in the Lana Turner movie The Merry Widow, Warner’s expanded their collection and updated the styles throughout the 1950s. All Warner’s ‘Merry Widow’ corselets and cinch-bras were promoted for their ability to create a fashionable hourglass silhouette. Travel was popular in the 1950s and synthetics were not only easy to look after but also lightweight and so wouldn’t take up much of the newly introduced baggage allowance on flights. The Warner’s ‘Merry Widow’ is a good example of an almost Victorian style of corsetry made using the lightweight materials of the 1950s. Usually constructed from embroidered nylon marquisette or lace and lined with plain nylon marquisette, with nine spiral steel bones for structure and shaping, these garments weigh a fraction of a similar garment made from cotton coutil.

my holy grail as a film/tv producer in 2025 would be to get jacob elordi in a supporting role as Michael phelps in a ryan lochte biopic or historical fiction adaptation./true crime docuseries reenactment. If he can do that I’ll run the egot campaign myself

Getting to know Levi Benton and his town
By Jonathan Monfiletto
Tumblr media
(The following essay is the script I - Jonathan Monfiletto - presented while portraying Levi Benton during the Yates County History Center’s annual Walk Through History cemetery tour at Benton Rural Cemetery in August 2023. The namesake for the town, Benton and his family were the first non-native settlers - aside from the Public Universal Friend and their followers - in what is now Yates County. If we could actually talk to him today, then he would have quite a story to tell about the early history of Yates County and the town of Benton).
Hello everyone! My name is Levi Benton, and welcome to my property here in the town of Jerusalem. Yep, that’s my house right over there – or at least it was – and this is the land I donated to the community to become our cemetery. Ahem, excuse me, I’m sorry. I forgot we broke away from Jerusalem in 1803 and formed our own town. Please allow me to start over.
Hello everyone! Welcome to my property here in the town of Vernon. Oh, that’s right, never mind. Those people over in Oneida County took our name for their town the year before we did. So we had to come up with a new name, which we did in 1808. Let’s try this again, shall we?
Hello everyone! Welcome to my property here in the town of Snell. We named this town for State Senator Jacob Snell from Montgomery County. No, wait a minute, that’s not correct either. You see, Mr. Snell had no connections to this part of Ontario County anyway, so we decided the name didn’t really fit. OK, I’m going to get it right this time, I promise.
Hello everyone! Welcome to my property here in the town of Benton. Ah, there we go! I got it this time! We named the town in 1810 for, well, yours truly. You would think that would be an easy one for me to remember. But, hey, give me a break, I’m 277 years old. I’ve forgotten more things than you people have remembered.
In fact, there was a meeting in the spring 1810 that took place at Luman Phelp’s hotel at the corner of Main and Head Streets. You folks know that as North Avenue, back then Penn Yan was a settlement within the town of Benton. There, Nathan P. Cole and a committee drafted a petition to the New York State Legislature to change the name of the town in my honor.
But I am still getting used to the idea that this is called Yates County now – named after the governor, Joseph Yates, who signed the bill into law to formally establish this county out of Ontario County in 1823. You see, I’ve been dead longer than Yates County has been a thing, and this was still Ontario County when I moved away from here.
And don’t get me started on the town of Wilton. You see, Jerusalem and Augusta – you folks call that Middlesex nowadays – were the first two towns incorporated in this part of Ontario County. But a bunch of us men – nearly 70 in all – wanted to separate this part of Jerusalem into its own town. There weren’t any hard feelings or anything; we just felt Jerusalem was too big and this part getting too grown up.
So we presented a petition to the Special Court of Sessions in Canandaigua dated February 3, 1797 – a Tuesday, to be exact – to ask that we citizens of this part of Jerusalem be allowed to form our own town. James Parker drew up the petition and signed it along with us other men, but for whatever reason the court didn’t grant it. We had to wait a few years to get our own town.
Well, anyway, I do hope you’ll excuse me for my lapses in memory and judgment. That really is my house over there, though it’s been modernized since the time I built it, of course. And I did donate this land for the cemetery. I actually owned quite a bit of property around this part of the town. I’m not buried here, though; I’m just visiting some dear old friends and checking out the old homestead.
In this part of Jerusalem – excuse me, Benton, to use the proper terminology – I was the first settler, hence why they eventually decided to name the town after me. In fact, my family and I were the first settlers of Ontario – er, Yates – County, outside of the Public Universal Friend and the Society of Universal Friends.
You see, I was born in Kent, Connecticut on March 20, 1746, and I married my wife – Mary Woodworth, or Molly, as everyone called her – in Canaan, Connecticut on October 30, 1769. We had seven children (three girls and four boys) by the time we decided to follow the Public Universal Friend out to the Genesee Country. You think long car trips are tough nowadays? Imagine having seven kids screaming “Are we there yet?!” and you don’t even know where you’re going!
We weren’t Friends ourselves, but the Friends blazed a trail, literally and figuratively, for those of us who came after them. We had two more girls once we settled here. In fact, Molly was pregnant with Hannah on our journey out here.
I mentioned we weren’t followers of the Public Universal Friend. In fact, it was my cousin Caleb – a prominent member of the New York Genesee Land Company, the group that Oliver Phelps and Nathaniel Gorham established to handle their land transactions – who convinced me to move out here. Through the company, Caleb bought the title to Township No. 8 – the town of Benton as you see it nowadays – and built the first sawmill on the north side of Kashong Creek. The site is opposite of the south side, where nowadays you see the stone gristmill that was built in 1828.
Eventually, Caleb sold some land to me, and my family and I settled on what was then lots 35 and 37 – right here. In fact, I owned much of the land on the south center and flat street roads, and I sold lots to the pioneers of Benton as more people moved into this area.
In 1789 I built a large log house, which I soon replaced with the large frame house that is still standing over there. The home still stands on its original foundation and is possibly the oldest home in the county still occupied. I also built the first frame barn west of Seneca Lake, for my cousin Caleb in 1793. We built the barn and filled it with crops all in one day.
Of course, being the namesake of the town and its first settler, I was connected to nearly every leading enterprise in the town and was frequently a public officer – one in whom the people had every confidence.
Even though I wasn’t a Friend with a capital F, I tried to be friend to everyone. I considered myself a Universalist – meaning I believed everyone receives salvation – but I was hospitable to traveling preachers of all faiths and hosted religious services in my home early on. In fact, the very first meeting of the Benton United Methodist Church took place in my barn before the Methodists built their own church. I think my barn was across the road from here, but you know, after all these years I can’t really remember. I’ll have to beg your pardon on that one.
In fact, our home was one of the social centers of the town while we lived here. We held Fourth of July celebrations on our property back before there was any villages around. You think your Independence Day parties nowadays are something special. Well, we had parties with people – including myself – who remembered America being founded.
We would set up long tables of refreshments in the shade of the butternut trees that stood in the rear of the barns, and men would give speeches for the occasion. Platoons of muskets would fire in honor, and there would be patriotic toasts. In the evening, everyone enjoyed a contra-dance to the music of the fife and violin.
During the winter evenings, my son-in-law Ezra Rice taught people young and old how to sing sacred music using a new system for the time, called “The Easy Instructor by William Little and William Smith.” From this system, folks learned the theory and practice by singing some good old pieces. Ezra was a good school teacher in the area as well as a good music teacher and church choir leader.
And speaking of school teachers, I don’t mean to brag or anything, but I did introduce Yates County – there, I said it right this time – to one of its first teachers. In the spring of 1802, a young man, just 20 years old or so, named John L. Lewis came to see me and proposed to teach school in Benton Center. I showed him around the town and introduced him to some of the local men. Sure enough, John got the job and began teaching school that April and taught here for three years.
In 1816, Molly and I – and many of our children and their families – chose to leave Benton and move westward. After a bad investment caused financial difficulties for us, we decided it was best to start over and try again somewhere else. We ended up in Whitewater, a town in Wayne County, Indiana, where I died on July 20, 1820 at the age of 74.
Well, I want to thank you all for coming and welcome you all to this cemetery tour. I hope you enjoying learning about the history of Benton and Yates County from us pioneers who helped settle this area and make it what it is today.

Marc Jacobs FW24
From Nicole Phelps's review for Vogue:
It looked like a sequel to his spring 2024 blockbuster, only here the doll clothes motif had a Hollywood gloss: Marilyn and Minnie and all the rest. Either that or he was looking back at his own oeuvre and giving it an exaggerated spin (remember, he celebrated his brand’s 40th anniversary in February, an important milestone). A large-buttoned skirt suit familiar from his more understated era had a super-shrunken shape, while the hourglass of a lace dress was exaggerated, befitting an animated bombshell, and sweater sets and a-line skirts had the Plain Jane knocked right out of them in acid colors. There was even an itsy-bitsy, teenie-weenie yellow polka dot bikini, only it wasn’t itsy-bitsy or teenie-weenie, but several sizes too big, like a doll in real girls’ clothes.

Jade Petty-John: Caroline Jones, a young woman hired by Jeremiah’s children to care for him as he dies. Uses her proximity to Jeremiah to steal the lamp and sell it for her own gain.
Plot Twist: The lamp was stolen from Jeremiah as he lay on his death bed, by George’s ancestor Caroline.
Lamp:
The lamp appears in the movie because it’s created by Jeremiah Bates in the 1800’s, and it’s important because of the people who are unknowingly tied together in their journeys by this lamp, that eventually makes its way back into Jeremiah’s family.
Why it’s important. Owned by each character at some point, the movie follows the lamps journey and the people unknowingly impacted by the lamp.
Octavia Spencer’s character, Daisy St. Clair, is so important to the plot because without her, the lamp would’ve never been able to return to Jeremiah’s family. She’s reclaiming an important piece of family history.
Movie Bible:
Come watch as multiple families paths are intertwined across multiple generations, cultures, and centuries without them knowing, but being impacted by it none the less. Every character impacts and is impacted by a simple lamp in some way or another. From a simple shop keeper to an energetic dance instructor, this little lamp continues to shine its way home.
Soundtrack:
The Wind-Cat Stevens

Closer to Fine-Indigo Girls

Extra: The title is a reference to Psalm 119:105 “Thy word is a lmao unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”
Even though the title of the movie is taken from a Passage of the Old Testament, there are no overt religious themes throughout the movie.

Freddie é o único Weasley do sexo masculino da nova geração a assumir abertamente sua sexualidade. Mas nem sempre foi assim.
