Yes. A new Gruff Rhys (Cardiff, Wales) album has been announced for release in 2024 on Rough Trade. Drift Records (as do many other record stores) has the Dinked edition which comes with a signed 12 x 12 print. Rough Trade's limited to 500 version is gone.

"Celestial Candyfloss" is the only song currently available and it is classic Rhys. Any fan of Super Furry Animals will love the sound here - it has a definite Jacco Gardner, Eerie Wanda feel.

But wait...there's more.

Bill Ryder-Jones (West Kirby, England...most known as a member of The Coral) has a new album out on Domino Recording Company and the title, "Iechyd Da" is Welsh for "Good Health". While Jones isn't Welsh, "This Can't Go On" has a Gruff Rhys feel to it. I can't help but also think of The Flaming Lips. I've been listening to this song for a couple of weeks, and the Welsh theme made me want to do a twofer.

Witch - Waile - a new single from Zamrock legends (2 original members + a band of Europeans from Mauskovic Dance Band, Whitefield Brothers, & L’Eclair)

“Waile” is WITCH’s first original material since 1984, as well as the band’s first release with co-founder and vocalist Emmanuel “Jagari” Chanda since 1977. "Waile" is built on a xylophone groove, with feverish bass, storm-cloud fuzz and funk guitars conjured around it. The track marauds through percussive rhythms into guitar solos and heavy snare fills, with powerful female choral refrains shifting the mood from triumph to anguish. Jagari’s lyrics touch on the struggles entwined in the histories of migrants in Zambia, Angola, the Congo and other nearby countries: “there’s a lot of death, sickness, poverty, and misery,” he says. “The song is lamenting that pitiful situation, that’s the Waile — it’s a word in the Lunda and Luvale language.” “'Waile' was one of the songs that I brought to the WITCH when I joined in 1978,” continues keys genius Patrick Mwondela. “While it was played live often back in the day, it was never recorded until the new formation of the band picked it up 43 years later during a rehearsal on an island in Kenya, where the band embraced it and made it their own. A few months after that, they gave it a new lease of life by recording it in Lusaka’s legendary dB Studios (site of the original WITCH 70s recordings). Sang in my native language Luvale, the subject matter is a nostalgic wailing for home of ancient African tribes that would eventually settle in Zambia." Spencer Cullum is a British musician transplant from Nashville, Tennessee. He's made two Spencer Cullum's Coin Collection LPs - both released via Full Time Hobby (UK).

This has a California psych pop 1970s sound reminiscent of Hollow Hand, Chris Cohen, J. Fernandez and Jacco Gardner. As you might guess from those bands, this is meticulously made, beautiful and lush.

His backing band - Coin Collection -is made up of many musicians, most notably Caitlin Rose.

Altin Gün - Aşk

Altin Gün est un exemple probant de metissage musical intelligent, d'hommage culturel vibrant sans bête copiage ni l'idée de faire du neuf avec du vieux ; le collectif d'Amsterdam a cette particularité dans le paysage alternatif de proposer un rock psyché groovy voir funky érudit, technique trempé dans les sonorités traditionnelles turques déjà exploitées sous le vernis d'un rock psychédelique dans les années 60-70, la recette ayant connu un certain succès au pays via de grands noms comme Selda Bağcan, Bariş Manço ou encore Erkin Koray.

Cet héritage assez obscur dans nos contrées et même dans une ville aussi cosmopolite qu'Amsterdam le groupe le doit au fondateur du groupe le bassiste Jasper Verhulst ancien musicien de Jacco Gardner qui est rentré transformé et inspiré de son voyage de tournée à Istanbul en 2016 où il a eu tout le temps de découvrir puis de s'imprégner de cette culture musicale jusqu'àprès son retour, ayant ensuite l'idée d'initier le projet Altin Gün (âge d'or en turque en référence à ce courant musical en vogue dans les 70's) rapidement rejoint par d'autres musiciens pour en arriver au sextet qu'ils sont aujour'hui.

4 albums plus loin et voici ce nouveau long format "Aşk" paru le 31 mars rendant à nouveau honneur à la folk-rock anatolienne de ce fameux âge d'or et cet ensemble de terres allant de la Mediterrannée à la Mer Noire.

L'album a été enregistré peu de temps avant les séismes qui ont eu lieu en turquie il y a 1 mois de cela et a ainsi repoussé la date de sortie pour ces raisons. On navigue durant ce receuil à travers l'ADN du groupe, cette musique arabisante sortant de ces fondations psychédéliques et au groove généreux, chantées soit par la part féminine du groupe Merve Daşdemir soit par son lead et fondateur Erdinç Ecevit Yıldız assurant également le jeu au Bağlama, sorte de luth traditionnel donnant toute sa couleur au son du groupe. Pas de tube ou de morceau plus marquant que les autres contrairement au très disco-funk précédent album avec des singles entêtants comme Yüce Dağ Başinda ou Ordunun Dereleri. Non ici il s'agit avant tout d'un voyage cohérent aux belles ondes s'appréciant comme un album de King Gizzard période microtonal en appréciant la technicité et la spiritualité derrière chaque suite d'accord, s'impregnant de notes et de chants auquels on a pas l'habitude en Europe, en se laissant porter par un sens du groove omniprésent avec en point d'orgue et tranchant avec le reste du répertoire le très italo-disco à la Moroder "Doktor Civanim".
