#Day5 #jagritiyatra2018 The city of Temples, The city of Poets The city of Jasmine The city that never sleeps! Yes We reached Madhurai today! From Madhurai station we boarded on to the buses to reach #AravindEyeHospital Aravind Eye Hospital is such an inspirational place, started in 1976 by a 58 year olderly man Dr. Govindappa Venkataswamy at Madhurai after his retirement. The aravind eye care team used to send buses near to the poor and get them to the hospital, treat them, accomodate upto the completion of treatment with free meals, board them off to in the same place where they picked up. This is all done for no cost! Absolutely for no cost since 40 years 🤐 They do a variety of eye treatments including Cataract, Cornea, Glucoma, Retina & Vitreous Uvea, Vision Rehabilitation etc Even they manufacture their own contact lens. Back to 20 years, It costs them $ 200 per one Lens to import from USA. Dr. G.V started manufacturing lens and sold it for just $ 2 maintaining the same quality. How great is this! I also got the opportunity to meet the Founding Partners of Aravind Eye Care 🤘 The lines written on the walls of hospital are much inspirable for me: "Intelligence and Capabilities are not enough. As a part of #Day4 #JagritiYatra, we headed towards St. Joseph's College Bangalore from Whitefield Railway station. The morning session was pretty good with these two successful entrepreneurs one - #SaireeChahal from Sheroes, another #Gayatri_Swahar from Y Cook India Pvt Ltd #JagritiEnterpriseMela #JEM was on the list for todays program. JEM is organized every year by Jagriti Yatra in Bangalore so as to make the startups to exhibit their products. Around 65 Startups exhibited thier startups. Of which, Bycle (Bike cum cycle) impressed me a lot. An Inspiring personality, older in age not in knowledge Ms #Almitra_Patel marks the glory of JEM as she was examining the stalls with keen interest. Our group members had a great convo with her. She is an Indian environmental policy advocate and anti-pollution activist. Got suggestions on Waste Management. Last but not the least, in the evening our tummies were filled with laughter for yourstrulytheatre 's art performance. Them returned the train to board! And headed towards Madhurai... #Day3 experiences at #JagritiYatra Thanks a lot for housing and bearing us for the long day @kalkerisangeetvidyalaya 🙏 We really enjoyed the day here! This school is really making a difference and an impact on the society as they never judge the students on rank basis instead they used to assign a learning tracker per every student. And the name implies, its a music school. The Thodi, Poorvi and tabala sessions were awesome! 🤘 And the students we being hosted by are rocking! Coming from socially and economically backword classes, they are giving their best in the school.
